About
The illusion turn has great theoretical appeal as a D (0.4) element, but this appeal is entirely theoretical to nearly every elite gymnast. As a group, they have decided this turn is too dance to function and not worth it, even for four tenths, when a double wolf turn is sitting right there at the same value.
It is called an illusion turn because it creates the optical illusion of the body rotating a full 360-degree circle around on the hip joint—like some sort of Crotch Owl, if you will—which is not physically possible.
