About
Elena Gomez got the quad turn named after herself en route to the world floor championship in 2002 in Hungary, though it spent its early years in the realm of the undervalued elements. In the first code of the open-code era, this element was considered the same as the triple turn and therefore entirely pointless to even try.
The quad turn received its pot of gold in the 2009 update, when it was taken from C all the way up to E, suddenly making it incredibly valuable for the gymnast who can actually get all four turns around clearly. She is rare.
Mostly, we see semi-close-ish attempts, where three turns are definitely around, the fourth turn has started, but then we’re getting some Leaning Tower of Pisa tributes and a step out at around 3.7 turns and only C (0.3) credit for the triple. So it’s a risky game.
