The code doesn’t differentiate in value among your basic salto positions in mounts, with the tuck, pike, and layout stepout all being given the same value. The value only increases once we get to the back layout to two feet. Still, with what is now an E value—up from D through 2016—a back salto mount becomes pretty appealing and has ticked up in frequency.
Well, at least for the layout stepout. That one is by far the salto of choice in a beam mount compared to the back tuck and back pike, which is also true of saltos on the beam itself. It’s so much more comfortable to land one foot at a time.
