About
At the modern elite level, the basic split leap on floor is relatively uncommon since it would not be counted for its A (0.1) value and has no benefit in combinations.
When we do see it, it is typically performed as the first element in a passage of dance to fulfill that composition requirement (0.5). Leaps must land on one leg if performed as the first element in the dance passage, so if all of a gymnast’s counting dancing elements are more difficult leaps that land on two legs (or turns), the split leap can be thrown into the beginning of the passage of dance to get the requirement in the simplest way.
For the 2025 code of points update, the previous image of initiating the leap in stag position was removed.
