Straddle 1.5
About
A Popa with an extra half twist, the straddle 1.5 is one of the rarer D dance elements for gymnasts to attempt to wrench around for credit somehow. That’s predominately a result of the difficulty of rotating fully, the difficulty of covering up the lack of rotation with another dance element, and the difficulty impossibility of including it in a passage of dance elements since it must begin from standing.
Most gymnasts will opt instead for the split leap 1.5 or the switch leap 1/1 as their compulsory not-fully-rotated D dance element.
In the 2025 updated skill drawings, the image was changed to reflect both of the acceptable techniques for this element—the side split jump with the torso vertical, or the straddle pike jump with the torso forward.
In the 2013 code update, this skill had its value raised from C (0.3) to D (0.4).
