Off topic, but I figure y’all will know if anyone does … I’m likely going to my first ever men’s NCAA meet tomorrow and my Google skills are failing me at finding a guide or 101. Can you point me in the right direction so I have some semblance of a clue what I’m looking at? I know women’s NCAA and a bit of men’s elite, but like … are they still out of 10? Do they have RQSs? Is it 6 up 5 count each event? What is a good team total?
I don’t know about any of the scoring things, but I remember reading on Road to Nationals that the men use a national qualifying score instead of the RQS. Road to Nationals could probably answer most of your other questions as well (not sure about the 6-up, 5-count one, but other than that).

Scores are not out of a 10 but use the open-ended international scoring system. I don’t know whether there are any adjustments to the code for college, but for some reason I don’t think so. (So, there’s a difficulty component, and then an execution score that starts from 10, and you add the two together). What counts as a good score varies by event, but in the range of 14 or 15 is good – the scores aren’t all bunched up within a few 10ths like in women’s. I’d suggest looking at some score sheets at Road to Nationals to get an idea of what’s a good overall score, and what’s a good score by event. I remember at Nationals there was no throw-away score, and in the FAQ at road to nationals it says something about needing at least some of your meets for RQS to be 5 up, 5 count, so I’m guessing that during the regular season, they do some meets with a throw-away score, and some without.
