Best Routine of Week 1 Poll

The routine of the week poll is back for 2018!

Your instructions
1. Vote for the best routine
2. Don’t get upset when this inevitably devolves into a twitter popularity contest. It’s not that important.

Criteria
1. Only routines scoring 9.925+ will be included in the poll
2. There must be video available of that individual routine. So, teams, if YarotskaNastiaFan hasn’t done your work for you, you have to get on that.
3. Each gymnast may appear only once per week. The higher score (or my discretion in the event of a tie) is used.

  1. Maddie Karr (Denver) – Vault

2. Elizabeth Price (Stanford) – Bars

  1. It’s so hard to choose!! It’s a tie between Ebee, Sarah Finnegan and Peng Peng Lee. I love them all!!!

  2. Hambrick and Boren always burn up floor, but Karas was ON IT in this routine. McMurtry certainly makes that full-in look effortless, doesn’t she?

  3. Finnegan’s bail wins it over Ebee and Karr for me this week. Perfectly vertical and effortless.

  4. It’s Peng Pengs effortlessness and the handstands that make me so happy! Had to give it to Ebee though, she finally got the score she deserves!

    1. Agreed – her FX last year was one of my favorite but I’m just not feeling this year’s routine even a little.

      1. Florida’s choreography is terrible this year (And I’m an alum and a fan!). I liked Alicia’s the best of the bunch. But, with the exception of Rachel Slocum’s, the choreography screamed “I made this routine up at the club last night.”

  5. I haven’t seen any discussion of Ebee’s bars yet – I was watching the video cast and she actually fell on her routine (wasn’t even close on her shoot), got up, finished it without redoing the skill, and then went again due to (presumably?) equipment failure (they tightened the lower left tensioner considerably). Angry bars ftw.

    1. Ebee scored a 10 on bars and was flawless. Bryant fell on her release back to the high bar.

    2. Ebee did not fall. Kyla Bryant did.

I don’t know much about Bryant, but I was really impressed by her. I think she could be a standout freshman this year.

      1. Oops, that’s embarrassing. Do they have pretty similar bar routines? I should pay closer attention, though it is hard with the four-way-split and no identification.

  6. Had to go with Ebee! There might have been routines in the bunch I enjoyed more, but it was such a victorious moment for her finally to get the score she deserves! I’m hoping for a number of those this season.

  7. How about the fact that Ebee’s bar routine has a ton of difficulty, connections, etc. She definitely has my vote. Some of those routines are two skills and a dismount, which just isn’t gonna cut it for “routine of the week”. And frankly shouldn’t cut it for an NCAA bars routine.

  8. This is our last year to enjoy both Ebee and Peng on bars – two gymnasts that brought legit elite-level releases and connections to NCAA, along with consistency and great execution. They will be sorely missed.
