My favorite thing so far today is that Maryland has made its statbroadcast feed password protected. Great.

Georgia is able to add Vaculik on vault today to have six vaults. It’s a miracle!

ROTATION 1

Hyland – VT – Kentucky – good clean Yfull, steps back into salute, so not a stick, straight position in the air, just some pike at the end. 9.825.

Baker – UB – Florida – Ray, solid – good vertical on bail – nice final handstand (early one was a little short) – sticks her double front, some cowboy, good set. 9.800 seems a little lowish for sticking the dismount, compared to usual.

Coca – VT – Kentucky – hope to the side on a Yfull, legs apart on the block –

Boren – UB – Florida – Tkatchev to nice handstand – clear hip – leg break on bail, good vertical – short final handstand – clean DLO, nearly stuck.

John’s telling us it was a 9.900 for baker, the scores say 9.800.

Dukes – VT – Kentucky – Y1/2, large bound forward

Foberg – UB – Florida – nice flight on Pak, some legs, same on Pak to Gienger – but a little close as inbar giengers often are – good height on FTDT.

Vaculik – VT – Georgia – much of what we’ve come to expect, a crazy pike in the air, but manages nearly to stick the landing.

Davis – VT – Kentucky – good height on full, two small steps to the side, off at an angle, knee form.

Moss – UB – Auburn – short first hs – gigantic and excellen gienger – bail – arch on final handstand – pretty DLO, stuck.

Gowey – UB – Florida – Ray, good – toe on – Pak is lovely and clean – rushes that low-bar 1/2 turn a touch – you could take a hs or two but nice toe form – DLO stuck. Sytrong.

Dickson – VT – Georgia – hop back on full

I LOVE that Alicia calls the Ray a Hindorff like a 90-year-old.

Rosa – VT – Kentucky – very large bound back on full

Pretty toe point on the Jaeger from Day for Auburn –

Hundley – UB – Florida – Shap, solid, float, same on Pak, but leg break – catches the Shap 1/2 – FTDT dismount, hop forward. Good rotation for Florida, though. 9.725 for Hundley, tighter than we would expect, leg breaks and handstands there.

Korth – VT – Kentucky – usual pretty 1.5, hop forward.

McMurtry – UB – Florida – Ray, fairly close catch this time – solid bail to toe shoot – good handstands – large FTDT, hop forward.

Milliet – UB – Auburn – toe on – Tkatchev, lovely toe point and counter rotation – Pak with a leg break – REALLY short final handstand – giant to stuck double tuck. Shame about some of the handstands and leg breaks because her toes are amazing.

After 1: Kentucky 49.100, Florida 48.950

Score QUITE tight for Florida in that bars rotation compared to other meets we see, for one of their better bars rotations of the season. The problem here is that Florida had a better bars than Kentucky had a vault, and yet Kentucky leads. Kentucky fine on vault, but can be stronger. Florida had some close catch and handstand problems, which were definitely punished. Some large separations, particularly on Boren’s and McMurtry’s sets, which typically would have followed Judge #1 at most meets.

Georgia gets a 9.900 from Johnson to lead the rotation, Auburn with a 9.875 from Cerio. Milliet went 9.675 because of that last handstand most of all, which was basically horizontal.

Carlisle – UB – Kentucky – short first hs – high Jaeger, a little loose, shortish on bail – needs more vertical on hs – VERY nice stick on FTDT.

Alexander – VT – Florida – Baumann was going to vault but alas – great height on her full and better control on landing, small hop

Johnson – UB – Georgia – Usual gienger – some better handstands – flings DLO a little with a hop

Warren – UB – Kentucky – Jaeger, nice shape – good handstand – bail, short – DLO, pike-hollows in the second salto – step back

Oaskley – UB – Georgia – good first hs – Shap with leg form to Pak with no legs, lovely pak, great 1/2 turn on low – hop back on dismount. 9.725.

Boren – VT – FLorida – Good Y1.5, high, small slide back, knees at the end

Vaculik – UB – Georgia – arch in first handstand – giant full to excellent Vaculi-Gienger – solid on the bail – some short handstands – usual FTDT legs, but a larger pace back this time

Baker – VT – Florida – giant bound forward out of Y1.5 this time, very large bounce that will take away the score. Still 9.825? Bars judges and vault judges not judging the same sport. I would think the hop alone was two tenths.

Watson – VT – Auburn – Pretty nice 1.5, got it around – some knees – hop forward

Snead – UB – Georgia – pretty first hs – Tkatchev, somewhat flat but fine – very clean and secure bail position – focusing well on handstands – DLO with small step. Good set. Needed.

Slocum – VT -Florida – Let’s see about this one. There it is! Handspring pike 1/2, small slide back. That’s what we came to expect last season.

Dickson – UB – Georgia – Great height and counter on tkatchev – hits bail to shoot – DLO, a tad short with a hop forward.

Kwan – UB – Kentucky – falls on Jaeger – second person to take a Jaeger way too far – Redoes the Jaeger and hits it but struggles on her overshoot and can’t cast out of it –

Glenn – VT – Auburn – Y1.5, deep landing, some legs in the air, hop forward

Pedersen – UB – Georgia – SHE LIVES! shortish first handstand – Piked jaeger is hit – Pak with some legs – some handstand issues but working through it – double fornt, major cowboy with a large lunge forward – that’s really what has been keeping her out of the lineup

McMurtry – VT – Florida – A very McmUrtry full, just a hop in place because it’s too easy for her.

After 1: Auburn 98.075, Georgia 98.025

Georgia with a bunch of 9.7s, falls just a hair behind Auburn, with some very charitably scored Y1.5s in there. 9.875 for Glenn? Really? Both meets vault is scoring way nicer than bars.

Korth – UB – Kentucky – very efficient piked jaeger, hitting handstand – rushed the bail a tad, same with final handstand, just working past it too quickly – DLO 1/1 and basically stuck, just a rebound in place. Good hit.

Solid vault rotation for Florida. Can get better. They’ll want a few more 10.0 starts in there, and Baker’s was not a strong one, but Boren and McMurtry improved their landings a little, and of course Slocum improved a lot, so it’s a solid sign. Kentucky counting a fall on bars basically decides this thing. Not their strongest bars.

Snead – BB – Georgia – bhs loso bhs, pretty series and she’s comfortable with it – the usual shortness on the switch, which is becoming clear as the struggle point in her routine – deep punch front but controlled well – 2/1, bounce in place. One down.

Smith – FX – Auburn – double pike, legs apart, short with a lunge – 1.5 to layout to straddle shushunova – has to pull it back a little after arching the layout so it travels, but she worked through it – double tuck, cowboy, controlled-ish step back

Oakley – BB – Georgia – switch to split ring – now I see what Kathy was saying about the back leg on the switch, yes, good amplitude on those leaps though – secure loso series – aerial to split jump – gainer full hop back.

Baker – BB – Florida – fall on double wolf turn, this is what we were worried about in her having to add in that difficulty – aerial to bhs is fine – straddle jump to split jump 1/2, check in between – side aerial layout full

Hambrick – VT – kind of a large lunge on her 1.5 so not the vault she wanted but she did hit it.

Dickson – UB – arches a handsand but holds it somehow – hits bail, shortish – toe on hits that high tkatchev – short handstand afterward – FTDT sticks.

Edwards – VT – same issue as Hambrick – hits her 1.5 but a largish lunge, not quite the dynamics or distance of Hambrick, who went 9.800, so we’ll see.

Winston – UB – toe on – toe shap – tight handstand before her Pak, awesome as always – DLO, holds the stick. Nice except for that handstand.

Priessman – VT – hits her full – rushes a little – step to the side – not the most distance, clean in the air.

Hmmmmm. Some weak vaulting from LSU. It started well with the 9.850 from Cannamela and 9.900 from Finnegan, but then missing the landing on all three of the 1.5s in the lineup. Alabama drops a fall and got saved by a couple strong routines at the end that snatched out some 9.875s.

I’ll also be keeping an eye on Oregon State and Utah, which is to begin shortly.

Desch – VT – well she waited for the flag! Hop back on full –

Durante – UB – 1/2 turn, a little loose back – great Jaeger – solid Pak, small leg break – good vertical position on 1/2 turn – FTDT, small hop back but then another step salute. 9.900. All of that was from the dismount?

Armbrecht – VT – good save on the 1.5 to hop backward, a squatty landing, OK

Hambrick – UB – Ray, maybe a tad close – good giant full to bail – short final handstand – FTDT and stuck. So what do we do with that score now? 9.925.

Childers – VT – nearly sticks her full – very flat off the table and some piking – but will save it with the landing.

Harrold – UB – Zuchold with a bit of legs – good hs – toe 1/2 to Jaeger, hit – small step back on double front. One of her stronger ones. A couple things, step back, a leg break, cowboy on the double front, but good. 9.900. Well now.

Mahoney – VT – clean full with hop back – good amplitude and shape, chest up

Edney – UB – Hindorff, big and hit – clear hip to bail, a little angle – hitting handstands – DLO, nearly holds the stick. Solid.

Dickson – VT – they want her into the vault lineup because she can do a DTY but was not ready with that full – lots of piking and a large bounce back – 9.700 is high

Priessman – VT – nice tkatchev, into Pak, usual leg break but not significant, very precise handstands – DLO, sticks. 9.900. We’re keeping these scores too close so that they’re not rewarding the difference in the routines.

Guerrero – VT – 1.5, just a hair short and has to step back – knees – a little off line

Finnegan – Ub – Ray, excellent – toe on – nice vertical on bail – muscles up that final handstand but gets it to vertical – deepish landing on DLO but holds it. 9.975 for that.

I don’t think you can call it a 10, because she had the squat on the DLO landing, some loose back on the toe on, and muscled elbows on the last cast (all things that don’t typically get taken as a .05 alone but do combine to make something not a 10).

Both teams really struggled on vault today. Alabama did not have those landings. LSU picked it up with the sticks on bars.

Lee – Utah – VT – nice open on the full, hop back and to the side

Colussi-Pelaez – OSU – UB – nice first hs – good toes on Jaeger – hits vertical on bail, some bent elbows – secure handstands – DLO sticks, good.

Lewis – Utah – VT – great amplitude, too much amplitude, with a huge bounce backward

Singley – OSU – UB – full turn to tkatchev, close catch on tkatchev – bail, legs together – they are nailing final handstands – double tuck step back.

Tessen – Utah – VT – 1.5 – Robert standing in front of the landing so that we can’t see it. All part of his ploy. A little short on landing with a hop back.

Judges were about a half tenth too high on everyone but then couldn’t give Skinner a 10, so they had to bunch and give her the same score as MMG.

Hambrick – BB – LSU – L turn – hitch kick to side aerial – awesome leap positions – secure loso series – 2/1, leans to hold the stick. Her usual good.

Mahoney – FX – double pike, a tad short with a step forward – front full to front lay, a little flat with a dance out – nice extension on popa, crisp finish position – double tuck, slide back. Fine, not great.

Karas fell on floor for Michigan. 48.225. Yikers.

Edney – BB – aerial to split, fine – bhs loso, hit – switch to straddle 1/4, short of 180 on both – full turn – kickover front, very secure – 1.5, stuck. Good.

Desiderio – BB – aerial to split, nice – lean correction on loso series but small – switch to switch 1/2 to beat, not quite as nice on the switch 1/2 as Macadaeg or Finnegan but not a deduction, hits gainer full.

Lewis – UB – Utah – full turn to tkatchev, feet – nice vertical on bail – shortish final hs – DLO, a little whippy but stuck.

Armbrecht – FX – Hits double pike – switch side to popa, good – 1.5 to layout, hitting, good, fine, not the most amplitude, necessary because already counting a 9.700 – rudi, a stagger on that landing.

MMG – UB – Utah – shortish first hs – hits Deltchev – bail, clean – muscling up a couple handstands – double tuck step back.

Campbell – BB – fall early on aerial – hits her two back tucks (which is not a combination, I maintain, but individually well executed) switch to switch 1/2, nice – 2/1 very short and a hop forward.

Finnegan – BB – LSU – two kind of large wobbles from Finnegan – early, adn then again on the side somi – side aeiral to stuck full. gets away with 9.750.

Dessaints goes for the 1.5, knee form, lands a litlte short with a step back but lands it.

Tessen – UB – Jaeger to overshoot, hit – much better on the dismount, sticks FTDT

LSU was chugging along but gave the rotation score away on those last two beam routines. Still comfortable lead, as Alabama got through floor but was kind of meh throughout the beginning.

Finnegan – FX – 1/5 through to 2.5, controls step out of it – double tuck, quite nice – switch ring and switch 1/2, obviously great – double pike, just a touch forward, but very strong set.

Winston – BB – aerial with a check – bhs lay-pike, holds it – full turn, smooth – double tuck, excellent, small slide

Hambrick – FX – sticks her DLO, usual form but perfect landing – 2.5 to front tuck, I love the pop she gets into that 2.5, even though it always looks scary/awkward – good height on leap elements but a little uncontrolled on landing – double pike, nailed. Great landings.

Reinstadtler – BB – Utah – smallest correction on loso series – just a little too tight in places – switch to straddle 1/4, great extension – sticks gainer full.

Guerrero – BB – Alabama – bhs loso loso, excellent – switch to straddle – side aerial very strong – 1.5, near stick, just a slide to the side.

Denver CANNOT hit bars. Counting a fall again.

Cannamela – FX – filling in for Edney – double pike bounce back – 1.5 to layout, solid – OK leaps – double tuck, short with a lunge forward – 9.875. LOLZ. This is why you use the final spot on floor wisely, because they will give you scores.

Skinner – BB – Utah – small correction on loso series and knees – side aerial to sissone, solid – L turn to full turn – secure on leap to back tuck series – double tuck with step forward.

Alabama still looking for that 197, but it was the landings on vault that took it away this time. LSU nearly hitting that 197.550 overall high for the season, but it was also the landings on vault (as well as that end of the beam lineup) that took it away in an otherwise strong (for January, but strong) performance.

Karr – BB – Denver – side aerial to bhs series, just a little check at the end but well executed throughout – hitch kick to side aerial/side somi of indeterminant aspect – beat jump to split jump full, has to slide around the split jump a little upon landing – 1.5 stuck

Singley – BB – Oregon State – split jump double stag, secure – bhs loso, good toe point, confident – front, strong

Nilson – UB – Boise State – hit tkatchev – bail, good vertical – short handstand – sticks DLO

Schou – BB – aerial to bhs loso, good security, mostly extended – beat jump to sheep, legs apart on sheep but secure – step back gainer full

Lewis – FX – Utah – bounce back on double pike – finishes double tuck with a little stronger control. Did she really get a 9.925 for that bounce back?

Dessaints – BB – lean correction on loso series – switch to stag ring – kickover front to beat, well connected – sticks gainer full. Some knees, early lean, good set.

Skinner – FX – L hop full – double double bounce back this time (small) – split leap 1.5, gets it around – 1.5 through to double, WHAT, missed a hand or collapsed on her 1.5 step out but continued through with some tucked back handsprings and pulled out the double full somehow – hops forward on the front tuck again – full-in, solid. 9.875.
