Best Routine of Conference Championships Poll

Your instructions
1. Vote for the best routine
2. Don’t get upset when this inevitably devolves into a twitter popularity contest. It’s not that important.

Criteria
1. Only routines scoring 9.950+ will be included in the poll
2. There must be video available of that routine so that the voters can, you know, watch it.
3. Each gymnast may appear only once per week. The higher score (or my discretion in the event of a tie) is used.

  1. I voted for Kiana Winston because that routine was phenomenal, and hit under such enormous pressure. The end of Bama’s beam lineup was probably the highlight of SECs.

  2. Uh I so so wanted to vote for Nickie Guerrero on beam! I could rewatch her celebration over and over again, it makes me so happy! 🙂

  3. The 10 finalists for the AAI Awards (for most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country):

    Christine Peng-Peng Lee (UCLA)
    Kennedy Baker (Florida)
    Brianna Brown (Michigan)
    Dani Dessaints (Oregon State)
    Cami Drouin-Allaire (George Washington)
    Myia Hambrick (LSU)
    AJ Jackson (Oklahoma)
    Alex McMurtry (Florida)
    Elizabeth Price (Stanford)
    Kiana Winston (Alabama)

The winner will be announced at the NCAA Championship banquet in April.

    1. All deserving finalists. I’d be happy with any of them, but I’m kind of hoping for Winston or Hambrick. I think they often get overlooked for McMurtry.

      1. In my opinion, Peng deserves it. She’s been through so much to get to where she is, and she’s been the most successful specialist of the season.

  4. I went with Skinner. Still so impressed she has kept many of her elite tumbling skills.

  5. Does MyKayla Skinner have a leap passage/direct connection in that routine, or is that no longer an NCAA requirement? (New fan coming from elite; my apologies if I have the code wrong.)

      1. So in NCAA, a cat leap is considered a skill on floor that earns the combination credit?

      2. Yes, anon. The NCAA dance passage requirement is actually pretty easy to fulfill. The rule is that a gymnast must have a: “Dance passage with a minimum of two (2) different Group 1 elements, directly or indirectly connected, one of which is a leap (one foot take-off) requiring a 180° cross or side split position.” There is no specification about difficulty of either or both elements. Cat leaps are recognized as A dance elements on floor, so they would qualify for inclusion as part of the dance passage.

To be clear, though, when you say “combination credit,” I’m understanding you to mean it earns credit as a dance passage which fulfills the dance passage requirement. This combination is not eligible for connection bonus because A+D does not meet the requirement for connection bonus. This means that she does not fulfill the dance bonus requirement by getting a connection bonus in her dance passage like most gymnasts do. Instead, she fulfills the requirement by getting a difficulty bonus for having a D dance element (switch leap 1/1).

Sorry for writing a novel. I hope this clears things up.
