Morgan Hurd has withdrawn from event finals after the beam dismount-pocalypse from yesterday. The surprising thing was that she competed floor after that at all. No reason to risk anything for Pac Rims event finals, even if it doesn’t seem particularly serious.

These event final lineups for the women are going to get kind of weird because of Cuba and Argentina’s participation here as guests who aren’t on the Pacific (LIKE LOSERS). Argentina was able to compete here but despite finishing 3rd as a team and Dominici finishing 3rd AA, they were not eligible for medals because of WRONG OCEANIC BORDER. In the event finals, both countries appear to be allowed to have one person compete if that person got a sufficient score, but those Cuban and Argentinian individuals are in addition to the normal qualifying 8. So some events will have 9 or 10 people competing in the event final instead of the correct number. You know how that thrills me. The bars aren’t even together yet, so this bodes really well.

Oh god, they’re currently putting the UB together. When the competition is already supposed to have started.

The Canadian coaches are up in there now like, “UGH WE’LL JUST DO IT.”

They have now invited the judges to march in twice now. They still not marching in. I’m half in heaven, half in hell.

Oh THERE you are, judges!

Finals group 1

At least they get a touch warmup in these event finals. WHAT A CONCEPT.

Gagnon – FX – Randi with a little bounce – front 2/1 to half, bouncing around a little to keep himself in bounds – double double tuck, short with a lunge – back 2.5 to front tuck full – good – Japanese handstand – back 1.5 to front full – 3/1, stuck – nice landings toward the end

Nice flare travels from Jorge Perez on PH.

Magistrati – ARG – UB – giant 1.5! Tkatchev, hit – bail, pretty good shape – toe on with arch – DLO, pretty shape, hop back. So unaccustomed to seeing a 1.5 piro on UB that I figured it was a mistake at first.

Nice smooth circles from Barnhill at the beginning on horse, loses his legs more toward the end but gets through without any major breaks. Good.

Vidiaux – VT 1 – CUB – 2/1 Tsuk, landing surprised her a little this time with a hop and bounce back, but still a good one with solid fificulty

Stephens – UB – AUS – has some nice line potential in inbar work and Pak – just a double pike dismount with a hop back

Lee – Taiwan – FX – big double double tuck, opens out early and welll – front lay to front 2/1, large hop out but pretty twisting form – same on 2.5 to front full – very well extended in flare work because PH – 2/1, a little lean to hold stick but good – 3/1 loses the legs a little in that one with a hop but very good overall

Great stick from Allaire-Bourgie on UB FTDT

Hong on horse a little hesitation in early scissor up to handstand but worked through, spindle flares excellent – as are flare travels – has to rush and push up that final handstand in dismount but a good hit!

Mikulak – FX – USA – front 2/1 to double front, quite short this time with hop back – front lay to double front 1/2 out, great finishing position, just a little hop – back 1.5 to front full, great and high – lean on 2/1 side pass again but holds stick this time – 2.5 with hop. A couple iffy landings but fine.

DiCello – UB – USA – toe full, good connected to Shap to Pak, nice line, good toe point – toe shap 1/2, strong – clear hip to blind change to piked jaeger, solid hit – stalder 1/2 – FTDT, small hop back. Nice one. A couple handstands but also some quite nice toes and line. She’ll be pleased with that one.

Vault feed has been cutting in and out so not sure what’s going on there.

Martinez – FX – Colombia – double front 1/2 out with some steps – good double double – front 2/1 to front 1/1 – 2.5 to half, pretty solid control after first pass, small hops, like on 2/1 – rudi, secure -3/1 with a bounce back

Solid hits on horse from Siminiuc and Sandro for Canada.

Modi – FX – USA – front double pike, large hop forward – back 2.5 to front 2/1, good, small hop – front full to rudi, solid – v to press handstand – randi, small hop back – 2/1, stuck – 3/1, a little short with a hop forward. A couple landings there but overall fine.

Arevalo – UB – COL – toe – stalder Shap to bail, nice line – stalder shoot – stalder 1/2 to piked jaeger, strong height – just a layout 1/2 twist nothing dismount, but strong on the bars.

Has the feed been working for a single vault since the first one? Cut out right before Chiles first vault.

Vargas for Colombia with a very floaty full in on floor

Bowers – UB – USA – inprovises a toe 1.5 that was supposed to be a full but saves it – tow shap to pak to Shap 1/2, good, some legs at the end – piked jaeger, hit – regular jaeger, good – FTDT, fairly short with a hop forward. She’ll get deducted for finishing position on the accidental toe 1.5, but if you’re going to improvise, might as well improvise an upgrade.

Congratulations, we missed both of Chiles’ vaults. I’M SO THRILLED WITH HOW MUCH THIS EXCELLENT SERVICE COSTS.

Miranda – UB – Mex – a few handstand struggles in here that will take away the score early, then a fall on shoot to high – hits tkatchev upon resuming – extending feet is most elements – double tuck dismount

Varas was the last guy on floor, did a pass to his head. Fine, but you know, also not.

Spence – UB – Canada – toe full, a little legs – nice height on Shap and Pak – legs go crazy on SHap 1/2 – good piked jaeger – double tuck with bounce back. Nice power and difficulty, just loses her form as she adds the most difficult elements, which will take the E down.

All events done except women’s vault, where the second warmup group hasn’t started yet and we haven’t seen any vaults.

McCallum – VT – USA – great stick on DTY. Best I’ve seen her do. And we even saw it!

McCallum – VT 2 – USA – ro 1/2 on tuck 1/2 – step to the side and out of the area but should also fetch a mostly strong score. She gives away some in difficulty on that second vault though, which will put her behind Chiles.

Grijalva – VT 1 – Ecuador – Tsuk layout, hop back

Modi beat Mikulak on floor to go 1-2 with Lee in third.

Hong took the horse title.

DiCello won bars with Allaire-Bougie in second and Bowers in third.

Grijalva – VT 2 – Ecuador – Handspring front tuck with bound forward

Chuang – VT 1 – Taiwan – Ylayout with hop back

WE DEFINITELY NEEDED 10 PEOPLE IN THIS VAULT FINAL.

Chuang – VT 2 – Taiwan – Handspring front tuck – nearly sits it with hop back to save

Marois – VT 1 – Canada – DTY, similar to yesterday, a little too forward with a lunge off to the side and out of the area, some legs in the air.

Marois – VT 2 – Canada – Tsuk layout full, small hop back – pretty good.

De Jong – Canada – VT 1 – DTY – came onto the table pretty high without the block she wanted but got it around, a crunched down landing with a hop back but did compete it to her feet

De Jong – Canada – VT 2 – ro 1/2 on front tuck – good distance she got on that, took it very far, lunge forward

THE FIRST GROUP OF SIX EVENT FINAL GROUPS IS NOW OVER. Strap in. It’s going to be a long day.

Men’s FX – 1) Modi, 2) Mikulak, 3) Lee
Men’s Jr PH – 1) Hong, 2) Perez, 3) Sandro
Women’s VT – 1) Chiles, 2) Vidiaux, 3) McCallum
-bronze to Marois because WRONG OCEAN, CUBA
Women’s Jr UB – 1) DiCello, 2) Allaire-Bourgie, 3) Bowers

Finals group 2

Seniors and juniors switch events now.

Stoddart – NZL – FX – double tuck, bounces back with hand down and OOB

Mikulak – USA – PH – good eponymous scissors – annnnd that’s about it – falls immediately afterward, off line and couldn’t get up to handstand – the resumption is clean and mostly solid, good dismount.

Dominici – UB – Argentina – too full, a little off line there, recasts before Shap to Pak – both very well done – toe Shap 1/2, great legs together – jaeger fingertips but took it far enough it was difficult to cast out of it – Delladio with hop back

Hong – USA – FX – 3/1 a little short with hop – 2.5 to 1/2, a little forward with a swim to hold the stick – front full to rudi, a little hoppy – 2/1, small slide/

Hit bars for Folino with double pike dismount, hop back –

Lee – USA – VT – DTY, strong one, better than the first day, lands a little too leg-apart staggered but good control, small hop forward.

Barnhill – USA – FX – double double, still good chest up, a little bounce this time – 2.5 to front full, secure landing – 1.5 to rudi, solid – 2/1 side pass, stuck – double tuck, stuck, a lean forward to hold it. A good one. Not quite as sure in the landings as the first day, but should still score well.

DiCello – USA – VT – DTY – hop back on DTY, nice height and direction, just a little leg cross, bigger than Lee’s

Sayer – Aus – VT – fine full, hop back but solid dynamics and legs

Avendano – UB – Colombia – Hindorff to Pak, legs but good, well completed and dynamic – falls on clear-hip Shap, too flat, can’t grasp. Ends FTDT with lunge forward

Perkins – VT – Australia – crashes a Yfull –

Cortes – COL – VT – Y1.5, comes in just a little short with a step back, still big but not as controlled as yesterday

McCallum – UB – USA – weiler, can’t press up into 1/2, has to recast, and recast again, improvises a 1/2 turn – Stalder Shap to tkatchev, hit – some feet – Pak, a little legs – Toe Shap 1/2 – FTDT, hop back. Struggle one.

The juniors do only one vault in the final, so they’re already done.

Siminiuc – Canada – FX – front lay to front 2/1, a litlte short with a stumble but saves it – 2.5 to 1/2 with a hop forward – double arabian, hand down in lunge forward out of it –

Lee – PH – Taiwan – exxxcelllent height above the horse in these flare spindles, great toe point and rhythm – and his whole routine essentially is flares, so I’m on board – great hit –

De Jong – UB – Canada –  hit Pak and Shap, some feet, a larger leg break in bail – toe shoot, good rhythm – DLO, small slide back, good hit

Sandoval – COL – UB – Toe shap, hit – bail, secure, leg break – toe shoot – blind change to jaeger, fall – hits wrists only on bar, no chance to catch

Kimble – USA – PH – nice and smooth routine, extremely long, very good hit, only a couple small leg breaks. He’ll be pleased

Fishwick – UB – Toe SHap to bail, good vertical – clear hip to shoot to high, took a little close – high jaeger, caught – dismount only a layout

Moreno – Mexico – UB – toe Shap to Pak – toe shap 1/2 with legs – piked jaeger, solid – tkatchev – giant full – double tuck, lunge back, a little jarred on landing but a solid set

Carlos Calvo from Colombia on horse finishes out this rotation of finals, nice speed, good feet – legs together – struggles to press up to handstand on dismount but gets there in the end.

Men’s PH – 1) Kimble, 2) Lee, 3) Calvo
Men’s Jr FX – 1) Barnhill, 2) Hong, 3 ) Sandro
Women’s UB – 1) De Jong, 2) Dominici, 3) Moreno
-bronze to McDonald because WRONG OCEAN, ARGENTINA
Women’s Jr VT – 1) DiCello, 2) Lee 3) Paterson

Oh crap we have to do medal ceremonies in between? All medal ceremonies should always happen at the end.

Kimble comes out ahead of Lee on horse, which is interesting. Both very strong routines. Lee’s more visually impressive.

Marcia Vidiaux is getting her own flower ceremony on the bronze tier of the podium because she wasn’t eligible for a medal, and it’s hilarious.

HOW ARE THERE STILL MEDAL CEREMONIES GOING? WE’LL JUST MAIL THEM TO YOU.

Now we get to start event finals 9-16 of 20.

Finals group 3

Fernandez – ARG – FX – switch 1/2 – double pike, well short, lunge forward – split jump 1/1 – switch – split leap 1/1 – 2/1, hop back – double turn –

Barhill – VT – Kas 1/2 with small hop, good –

Kaji finishes rings with FTDT with hop back.

Sandro – VT – Canada – Kas 1/2, larger bound forward than Barnhill

Dominici – BB – BB – switch split mount – switch to switch 1/2 with a check, not quite there in split positions – aerial, check – bhs loso, hits, knees, unsure but controlled – side aerial, good – switch side, a little crooked, pretty good split – full turn – double tuck with stumble backward, keeps it to her feet.

Williamson – VT – NZL – Kas, hop back

Secure double tuck from Sayer on floor, though her thing is the turns and the leaps – struggles a lot on double pike, just around but short with a large lunge forward

Nice double double tuck dismount on rings from Gagnon, small hop.

Brett – BB – NZL – ro loso mount with huge swim but saves it – straight jump 1/1 from side position, hit – side aerial, a little short but held without much of check – switch to switch 1/2 and falls, looked like she could save it but lost herself working out of it – back tuck, good – bhs loso, knees, slight adjustment, but solid – full turn – 2/1, hop back

Vargas – FX – Mexico – Y spin – double pike, a little bounce – switch ring – 2.5, hop – front full, another hop, but a nice little hit for her – split leap 1/1, solid split position – 2/1, hop

McCallum – USA – BB – candle mount, good – triple wolf, hit, more secure today – split jump 1/2 from side, well short of split, falls on side aerial, off line and resort – redoes it into loso series, no trouble this time – front tuck, a little deep but holds it – switch to aerial to split, secure, some kneesdouble tuck, pretty large stumble back. Not her day after vault, but she still has floor

Moore Aus – hand down on Kas 1/1

Briceno – FX – MEX – double arabian, step forward, a little cowboy, good – double tuck, bound backward – switch 1/2, fine – 1.5 to front tuck, small hop – 2/1, hop back

Woo – BB – Canada – Bhs Loso, nice – aerial, good extension – side somi with a check – split jump 1/2 from side, tries to do a Sunisa Lee save from yesterday but couldn’t in the end and falls

Chow – VT – USA – Kas 1/1 with lunge back, not quite as comfortable as yesterday but good difficulty for this final and more comfortable than others have been

Chipizubov – FX – AUS – double pike, step back OOB – double tuck, small hop but keeps it in – front tuck through to layout full – 2/1, small hop

Mikulak – SR – good hold on Maltese – straight planche, also solid, lower to cross – front tucks to cross – front pikes to handstand – one hesitation in final swing up to handstand, otherwise good, hop back on double double tucked dismount

Campos – BB – MEX – second half of routine – very pretty side aerial to split jump , good leg and toe positions – sissone to wolf jump, nice – 1.5 with small hop forward.

Modi – SR – nice tucks and pikes – strong rise up to L sit – small hop back on double double tuck from him as well –

Chiles – BB – USA – bhs loso series, solid, good feet – aerial to split jump to straddle, more form issues there, but a secure series – split leap 1/1, grabs the beam and falls, I still don’t understand the point of that skill in her routine – side aerial, hit – switc, switch 1/2, broken connection but secure individual elements – side somi – double pike, hop back

Lee – FX – USA – double L to full turn, good – DLO, strong, small hop – double arabian with lunge, keeps it in bounds – switch ring – split leap 1.25, unclear what she’s attempting there but it’s a deduction either way – 1.5 to front full, good legs, hop forward – double wolf, didn’t really get the third turn around, with hand to support her, and then does another double wolf – double tuck, hop back –

Folino – BB – Australia – good leap series – bhs bhs layout, may not get credit but solid –  finishes double pike with hop back. A hit, which is an especially big deal in today’s final.

Bowers – FX – USA – double front to stag, nice – controlled – FTDT, small hop – switch ring – split ring full, solid – triple turn, falls out a little – front double full to front tuck, pulls it around well since she didn’t get the most height – double pike, buckles a little on landing there but keeps it to her feet with a step

Allaire-Bourgie – FX – Canada – quad turn attempt, I’d credit it – front double full with a small step out – double pike, good height and straight legs, step back – switch – switch full – double tuck, somewhat deep with hop back – triple turn – 2/1, solid. She’s going to be a thing.

Marois falls on beam on punch front –

So that finishes up this group of finals. Now the juniors and seniors will switch again.

So…who’s going to medal with a fall on beam?

Men’s SR – 1) Mikulak, 2) Modi,
Men’s Jr VT – 1) Chow, 2) Barnhill, 3) Sandro
Women’s BB – 1) Folino, 2) Dominici, 3) Campos
Chiles will get a medal with a fall here because of Argentina
Women’s Jr FX – 1) Bowers, 2) Lee, 3) Allaire-Bourgie

Finals group 4

Vidiaux – Cuba – FX – split jump 1.5, bouncy but good – whip just to 2/1 this time, pulled out, was a great 3/1 yesterday – front tuck through to 2.5 with lunge – full-in, step back and OOB – still nice lift in these leaps – double tuck, short with lunge forward. Not as strong as her first day showing.

Asher Hong sticks a DLO 1/1 to finish another solid rings routine, a couple small struggles to hold strength elements, but another good one overall

Magistrati with a series fall on beam.

Chow – SR – USA – straddle planche, fine, lower to L sit – up to press handstand, some angle – tucks up to L sit to press handstand, struggling to hold some of these handstands as he dgoes – DLO 1/1 with hop back, good

Dominici – FX – Argentina – switch 1/1 – full=in with lunge back – switch ring – split leap 1/1, pretty nice leaps – double arabian, lunge forward, OOB – double tuck, large bounce back – her floor-rulfova – 2/1, bounce back

Portillo with a fall and a couple other large mistakes on beam

Lee – BB – USA – wolf double, solid –  aerial, good – bhs bhs layout, a full fall today, no crazy save – side aerial to loso loso is hit, very difficult, just loses those knees at the end – switch ring to split ring jump – bhs bhs double pike, deep with lunge back but hit

Ryan – FX – NZL – wolf double – 2.5 to front tuck, some legs – double tuck, step back – switch to split leap 1/1 –

De Jong – FX – Canada – 1.5 through to 3/1, well short with some covering hops forward – switch ring, good – split full, also a nice 180 position – double arabian, with a burned-my-foot hop back which seems like it kept her in bounds – double tuck, hop back –

Cortez from Colombia was fighting through on beam until her double pike dismount, fall. 0 for 4 on junior beam routines so far.

Lee – VT 1 – Taiwan – Kas 1.5, great vault, mostly secure, small hop, good height and twisting shape.

Escobar – FX – Colombia – split jump 1/1, good – double pike, small bounce back – back 1.5 to front full, a larger bound out of that but stays in bounds – switch ring – split leap 1/1, short of 180 -2/1, very secure

Emma Spence has our first hit beam routine for the juniors –

Dobney – VT – NZL – DTY, lunge back, fine

Campos – FX – Mexico – y spin – double pike with hop – switch ring – split leap 1/1, good 180 – 2.5, step OOB – double turn – front 1/1

Dobney – VT 2 – NZL – Kas 1/2, loses his knees at the end, lands a little deep with a hop back

Chipizubov – BB – Australia – bhs bhs layout 2 feet, check but keeps it on – punch front, deeper but secure – switch to sissone, nice feet but struggles after sissone with a couple large wobbles – aerial, good – split ring jump, foot – split jump 1/2 from side, check but not bad position – back tuck, hit – bhs bsh 2/1, short with hop

Sayer – BB – Australia – bhs loso, hit, knees – side somi, secure – aerial – side aerial with check – switch to split leap, nice form on the simpler leaps – bhs bhs 2/1, small hop, legs throughout

Folino – FX – Australia – full in with bounce back OOB –  front tcuk through to 2/1, short with a hop – double pike, solid

DiCello – BB – USA – triple wolf hit, double wolf, also hit, a little more hesitant in the second one – side aerial, falls – so that’s no hit beam routines for the US today – switch ring – bhs loso loso, adjustment step but hit – bhs bhs 2/1 with hop

McCallum – USA – FX – full in, solid, small hop – front lay to front 2/1 to front tuck, hop but keeps it in – double wolf, fine – switch ring to switch 1/2, short of position on switch 1/2 – 3/1, legs staggered on landing but a solid land – split leap 1/1 – double tuck, small slide. She had an odd, legs-apart stagger on landings (the TCT stagger?) that looks awkward always, but it helps her minimize landing deductions

Allaire-Bourgie has a couple fairly significant checks on beam but hits – finishes 2.5 with lunge forward

Chiles – FX – USA – 1.5 through to double arabian, lunge forward – DLO, landing surprised her a little it looked like with a bounce back – L hop full, split leap 1.5, pretty solid position in that one, just the feet – double pike, hop back – switch full is shorter – wolf double – double tuck, chest down but good control.

13.650 is good progress in that score for her.

That Allaire-Bourgie routine may spoil Lee’s quest to win with a fall.

Woo – FX – Canada – DLO, big, lands with one foot OOB – L turn, falls out of it – not bad on the leap sequence – triple turn, gets it around – front tuck through to 2.5, crossed legs but fairly secure on landing – split jump 1/1 – double pike, nice shape, only a very small slide.

Men’s VT
Men’s Jr SR – 1) Dick, 2) Dolci, 3) Hong
Women’s FX – 1) Chiles, 2) McCallum, 3) De Jong
Women’s Jr BB – 1) Allaire-Bourgie, 2) Lee, 3) Sayer

ARE THEY PLAYING JINGLE BELLS?

I think that may be my cue to be done.

We still have a few more mens’ finals, the bars events. Competition for the women has concluded.

  1. Is there video of Hurd’s BB? So far they’ve only posted her BB from podium training.
