The mid-season blues. A time-honored tradition. We saw LSU and Georgia succumb to cases of the blahs yesterday in their bars-fall performances, and those likely won’t be the last cases we see this weekend. You’re probably feeling it too.

Utah lineups, still with Reinstadtler only on bars and Skinner off FX.

Rotation 1

Megan’s like, “GET THIS CAMERA OUT MY FACE”

Lee – VT – Utah – her usual clean full, good direction, small hop and just a little distance, but should score well. 9.850

So Seilnacht – UB – Cal – good first hs position – fingertips that piked jaeger, but strong form – into overshoot – 1.5 twist dismount, a little short with a hop. 9.800

Roberts – VT – Utah – another strong landing for her, which has been much better this year, small adjustment on landing, good power and open, just a little chest down. 9.875. We’re trending a little too high here.

Jones – UB – Cal – Shap to Pak, some legs in the Pak, good Shap, a little short on 1/2 turn on low and on the final cast handstand – a couple .05s to take – FTDT, stuck. Nice finish. 9.800

Burch – VT – Utah – small step on her full, and then actually another small step as she tries to hold it while going into salute. Good direction, not the same power as Roberts though. 9.800

Kuc – UB – Cal – Lovely Shap to Pak, smallest bit of legs – good 1/2 turn position on low bar – super smooth in those casts, just a bit short in last one – FTDT, small hop, a bit of chest position. 9.775 is not enough reward for form compared to the 9.8s.

MMG – VT – Utah – 1.5 – just does hold the stick on her 1.5 with a little one-leg bend adjustment. Probably will see them take for that and knees but not much else. 9.925, again about .025 too high for the more enthusiastic judge. You really have to take two separate .050s there.

Watterson – UB – Cal – pretty pak – toe on to Shap 1/2, great legs together – toe full into double tuck, holds on to the stick with a little bend lean. One vertical position, but really clean. 9.850

Skinner – VT – Utah – pretty nearly got the stick this week – just a little bit of an adjustment like MMG. The possible deduction for knees and amplitude. 9.950.

One judge went 10.000. The other 9.900.

On replay, the landing is more secure than I initially thought, so I have no problem with 9.950 final score, and she needed the reward for being stronger than MMG.

Schank – UB – Cal – 1/2 turn into super high piked Jaeger but falls, so pretty in the air. They needed that score.

Tessen – VT – Utah – her second vault of the season – debuts her 1.5 for the first time this season, a medium step forward, probably .100, and then some knees, but an important upgrade to the lineup. 9.875, once again that’s a touch too high.

Bordas – UB – Cal – good first hs – 1/2 turn to jaeger to overshoot, great height, fab amplitude – a little loose back in a cast – giant full into double tuck, fairly late on giant full but a good stick on double tuck. 9.875

After 1: Utah 49.475, Cal 49.100

Utah 49.475 on vault, will definitely take both the scoring and the performance there. Really solid landings, only little adjustments for most of them and not the obvious steps we’re seeing from most teams, and getting Tessen into the lineup with her 1.5 is a big deal.

Cal’s 49.100 is fine and usable, not huge but workable and avoided counting a fall. Strong performance from Bordas and Watterson.

Rotation 2

Sy Seilnacht – VT – Cal – basssically sticks her full, really strong, we’ll see if that counts as a step back into salute. Not the most distance, but nice form, solid landing. 9.800. Maybe expected a little higher there.

Lee – UB – Utah – 1/2 into piked jaeger to overshoot, nice and high – short cast hs on high – front giant 1/2 into double tuck, flings out that double tuck horizontally, .1 lunge forward on landing, biggest deduction in the routine. 9.725. A little surprised by that score, but you can argue .200 (at least .150) on dismount alone.

Jones – VT – Cal – does a full, kind of an odd one for her, not a ton fo block and had to pike does more than they’d like, tried to hold the stick but a lean forward with a step. 9.725

Dula – UB – Utah – short first hs – 1/2 turn to jaeger, great toes – bail, a bit short of vertical, some borderline hs – stalder to double tuck, deep with a hop back. 9.800

Mastrangelo – VT – Cal – bounces back on her full, good layout position and height, best of the lineup so far in that department, but a larger landing bounce. 9.800

Tessen – UB – Utah – a bit short on legs together cast – jaeger, close catch with some elbows – good vertical on bail, just a bit of feet – I’d take for two casts here – good stick on FTDT. 9.850

Clausi – VT – Cal – Y1.5 – pulls out the landing on her 1.5 pretty well, small hop – didn’t quite have the layout position but only a little bit of knees – came in a bit back but held it. 9.850

MMG – UB – Utah – good first hs position but still kind of muscles it up – her big deltchev, great – bail is a little short of vertical, she’s having a couple hs in here but the last one was good – FTDT with small adjustment on landing. Solid. 9.850

Amanda campaigning for a 10 for that routine like she suddenly doesn’t know what deductions are. #Keepthefansinthestands. It’s one thing to be supportive of the athletes, but the primary job of the commentator is to keep the fans informed. Let people know what the judges saw so they know that a 9.850 seems pretty accurate for that routine.

Williams – VT – Cal – not her typically great full, a bit of a bounce back this time as well as some direction. Didn’t get the block? 9.800

Reinstadtler – UB – Utah – shortish first hs – toe 1/2 in jaeger, great fingertip save on the jaeger – bail, small leg break – two short cast hs there – a bit deep on her FTDT with a hop back. A hit, not her strongest. Some things to take. 9.825 is too high there –

George – VT – Cal – full, bit of a bounce back this time, not too large, good direction, pretty solid layout position. 9.850

Skinner – UB – Utah – small arch on first hs, pulled back – Ray, solid – bail, legs together well – she has that little bit of back sway on cast handstands that can be taken , even though the feet tend to get up to within 10 degrees, but the final position was a bit better – strong stick on FTDT. 9.850

After 2: Utah 98.650, Cal 98.200

Utah not as strong on bars as on vault. A lot of it was in those first handstands, just seeming a little tight, but a few people struggled on dismounts as well. They’ll take a 49.175, but not framing it. Bars scores seemed overall more reasonable and accurate than on vaulting.

Cal will also absolutely take a 49.100 for that vault rotation since they didn’t really have the landings this week, more bounces than they’d like, save for Seilnacht.

Living for the Missy Marlowe “Lynn Raisman cam.”

Rotation 3

McNatt – BB – Utah – split to double stag, solid, a little short on split – aerial with a large break, leg-up wobble and needs to redo for series – aerial to bhs, gets them connected but a step back on the bhs and some knees – beat to sheep, some legs on sheep – gainer full, a little short with a step. Got through it, but they’ll want to drop the score. 9.650

So Seilnacht – FX – Cal – front lay to rudi to stag, a little travel back in the stag, but good twisting form on that rudi – illusion turn – split leap 1.5, hits her 180 position – 1.5 to 1/2 to split jump, not the most amplitude in that pass, secure landings – 1.5 to front pike, super solid. 9.800

Soloski – BB – Utah – This is new. aerial with a check, leg up a little – she’ll also need to redo – aerial, works through to bhs this time. They’re fighting it. Hitch kick to switch 1/2 with a check, don’t love the switch 1/2 for her since it’s so difficult to get to 180. Splits are stronger but still some feet. Front full, pace forward. Another routine with issues, but for her getting back into the lineup, it’s progress. 9.800? Guys.

Mastrangelo – FX – Cal – full-in, great height and controlled step on landing, just a little chest down – 1.5 to layout, also solidly landed – switch side to popa, a bit of an angle in that popa – 2.5, step forward, keeps it in, a little leg crossing in the twist. Good one overall. 9.800

MMG – BB – Utah – switch to split, solidly done – bhs bhs loso, arm wave on landing, but minimal – aerial to wolf jump, a little abbreviated itn connection but will get it – full turn – 1.5, stuck. Strong one and a routine they needed. 9.925.

George – FX – Cal – front tuck through to rudi, controlled step –  excellent height on her switch ring and split leap full, pretty – front 2/1, around comfortably –  rudi, step back, some legs, but a solid one for her. Comfortable landings. 9.850

Lee – BB – Utah – full turn, pretty and smooth, that’s a full turn – bhs loso, secure, no trouble – switch to straddle 1/4, low to the beam but once again solid – beat jump to side aerial to full, smalllll bounce. One of her good ones, pretty pretty routine. 9.925

Bordas – FX – Cal – double pike, drops right down into it – switch ring to switch 1/2, got her feet a little screwy there into those leaps maybe? Just some knees in those leaps – good rudi, keeps the foot down – front full to layout got pretty crazy in the legs, had to whip around that layout with a leg separation. 9.800 is high for me there. Same as Seilnacht even with that last pass?

Randall – BB – Utah – bhs loso, big break there with a leg-up and a bend at the hips, saves it – sheep jump, legs pretty far apart on that – switch with a check into split jump, I wouldn’t give that combination and neither would Missy – rulfova phenomenal as always – 2/1, holds the stick, a little bit of knees. But, we’ll see about the score because I woudn’t give her a dance element combo there.

9.675 tells me they gave her the dance combo, which they really shouldn’t have.

Clausi – FX – Cal – full-in, good height, a small bounce – switch side to wolf full, good, a little angle on switch side – punch front 2/1, super form, just a little landing adjustment – 1.5 to layout, controlled dance step out, strong pass. Nice. 9.900

Skinner – BB – Utah – bhs loso series, hit, the usual crazy legs in bhs – side aerial to split, secure – switch to straddle, good position on straddle, took out the back tuck this week, which she doesn’t need – long pause before dismount – double tuck, small hop. Solid. 9.900

Sy Seilnacht – FX – Cal – in for Toni-Ann – double pike, hit, a bit of a slide back and chest down – switch leap full to sissone, not quite to 180 in that switch – front lay to front full, some leg separations – 1.5 to 1/2, secure landing.

After 3: Utah 147.875, Cal 147.350

Utah will be pleased to get out of that beam rotation with 49.225 because three of the six struggled with combinations and had significant errors. The three other routines were quite strong, though. Cal goes 49.150 on floor, fine for a rotation without Williams. Landings are getting there, some progress in that regard this week. Floor scores were…weird? Some felt too low, others too high.

I don’t really like the revisionist history that Skinner was snubbed for the 2016 team. For whatever USAG Steve Penny BS that was going on behind the scenes (which I really badly hope comes out some day), her strengths did not make as much sense for that team. Getting the third bars score was the more important “hole” to fill with that final spot.

Rotation 4

George – BB – Cal – wolf turn single – aerial with an arm wave and a knee bend – bhs loso series, another large break, bend at the hips and an arm wave – split to loso was more solid – switch to split, getting more comfortable, good extension on leaps – gainer full, holds stick. Got more composed as she went but will still need to be the drop score because of the early errors. 9.675

Roberts – FX – Utah – front lay to rudi, love the position on that rudi, super clean pass – double pike, controlled step, comfortable – hitting her leaps – 1.5 to layout, a little short on that layout, but solid overall. Strong routine. Will get a big score, especially today at home. 9.875

Clausi – BB – Cal – switch to switch combination, pretty split positions, well done – bhs loso series, basically lands it on one foot and places the second one afterward, avoiding a true check – beat to side aerial to full, small hop back. A good one. 9.850

Lee – FX – Utah – pretty and high 2.5, just does control that step forward – front lay to front full, also good twisting, a little less control on the lunge forward – 2/1 to loso, smooth, well done. Continue performing like that, and she should stay in the lineup even with Skinner and Reinstadtler available. 9.850

Keelen – BB – Cal – bhs loso series, super secure – aerial, no trouble – finishes 1.5 dismount with a hop forward. Great one. 9.875

Burch – FX – Utah – double pike, comes in a bit short with a step forward – split jump full to wolf full, good positions,a little bounce – rudi, fine – 1.5 to layout, a little whipped over with a larger lunge-dance out. A solid enough one, but to me not as strong as the first two. 9.800

So Seilnacht – BB – Cal – bhs loso, secure, good extension and toes on that series as well – switch to double stag to beat, also precise, maybe a little long before the beat? – side aerial to a floaty full, does kind of scrunch down to hold the stick, which will be deducted, but she does hold the stick. 9.825

Randall – FX – Utah – gets her full-in well this week, a little stagger on landing, but controlled – straddle positions met well – 1.5 to layout, also comfortable, would like to see the layout a little higher – double pike, well controlled, just a little chest. Good one. 9.875

Williams – BB – Cal – standing front tuck to loso, but she has a small hop this week in between the two, which means it won’t be given as an acro series, which will take away the score – has a check on dance – gainer pike, stuck. Super short routine because she typically gets ALL THE BONUS from her front tuck to loso series, but not this time.

9.600

Soloski – FX – Utah – solid DLO, good controlled landing – I’,m not one who minds a super arch position in a back layout, but that one will be too arched for the taste of some – 2/1, comfortably landed as well – 1.5 to layout final pass, sits it down – looked off on the 1.5, didn’t get anything into her layout, has to do an Ellie Black Butt Bounce accidentally.

Bordas – BB – Cal – seriously almost fell on her jump onto the beam mount as her foot got stuck on the beam – switch to switch series, a little more tentative than Clausi’s, but good splits – bhs loso series, solid – aerial and falls. Oof. Problems in this beam rotation will take away Cal’s potential mid-196 road score.

MMG – FX – Utah – pike full in, secure landing, chest down – switch ring to split full – 1.5 to layout to front pike, does well to pull it out as she also overshot her 1.5 and had to mush the layout a little, not nearly to the degree of Soloski – rudi to straddle, solid. Just a bit for form on that middle pass. 9.875

FINAL: Utah 197.150, Cal 196.225

It’s a road 196 for Cal, some strong moments, Clausi had some nice routines, Bordas on bars, but will be disappointed in how beam finished because the total could have been better. Some low ones still cropping up in each rotation, some vault landings to hone.

Another low 197 for Utah. They’ll be most pleased by the vaulting performance, where the landings were right on. The other events had some problems, bars being the lowest score but beam and floor also not living up to the standard they can reach. It was another one of those floor rotations where Roberts had the best, most controlled and composed routine, and the scores were never really able to rise from there.

Williams beam score raised to 9.650, so Cal goes up a half tenth to 196.225.

Meet back here for Minnesota and Nebraska?

This should be a fun one.

Meanwhile, NC State just got a 196.400.

Rotation 1

Quinn – VT – Nebraska – bringing out the 1.5 for the first time, lands well short and sits it down. Welp, the 9.750 streak is over.

Quaglia – UB – Minnesota – good first hs position 1/2 to piked jaeger to overshoot, some loose knees on both – a short final cast hs – giant full to double tuck, stuck landing. Will get a fair few deductions for vertical positions on most of those casts and pirouettes, solid finish. 9.775 a little high to start there

Verceles Carr – VT – Nebraska – she sits down her 1.5, so Nebraska already counting a fall after two routines. Yikers. Also short on her landing.

Willmarth – UB – Minnesota – good first hs – Ray, solid catch, a little knees, excellent bail, good vertical position – good final vertical, a little loose back – giant full (late) to double tuck, small hop. A bit closer to vertical on some of her handstands. 9.825

Dujakovich – VT – Nebraska – ooooh, just does pull out her 1.5, comes in short but gets through it with pretty big hop back rather than a fall.  9.650.

Loper – UB – Minnesota – Toe Shap to Pak, excellent form on both – 1/2 turn on low, solid – misses final cast handstands – tries giant full but can’t complete it, goes over the wrong way, finishes with an unconnected double tuck, so that will need to be the dropped one. Was so lovely for the first 1/2. 9.700. That’s also quite high for that routine. Minnesota not getting hosed today.

De Jesus – VT – Nebraska – 1.5, much stronger, small hop forward and some foot flexion at the end.

Sales – UB – Minnesota – good bail vertical position, a little feet – some short hs – nice catch on Khorkina – better final hs – DLO, hop back. Overall a stronger routine, still not quite there on the hs.

Crouse – VT – Nebraska – 1.5 with a bound forward but no question about whether she was going to hit it – pretty vault but definitely a .100 hop.

Ramler – UB – Minnesota – toe shap to to Pak, actually perfect – hitting hs on low – toe shap 1/2, legs together – toe on – finishes FTDT, held the stick with a little deep bend to hold it. Amazing routine, will score very well. 9.875 is preposterously close to the other routines when it was tenths and tenths better than them.

Houchin – VT – Nebraska – hit 1.5, similar bounce forward to Crouse – no question about those last two hitting, but just trying to get their hits rather than stick. 9.875

Lu – Ub – Minnesota – shap to pak is lovely – oh dear balance check on a squat up stepping up to high bar just standing on the low, the only weak part of the routine – DLO, perfect and stuck. 9.900. The rest of the routine was perfect, but she gets away with one for that major arm wave standing on the low bar.

Oh, John, you should watch more NCAA. That damn bars balance check happens disturbingly often.

After 1: Minnesota 49.175, Nebraska 48.350

Oooof. Nebraska. Goes for a lineup entirely of 10.0 starts, which is amazing, but counts a fall and a 9.650. I have to say, though, I kind of love it that they went for all that difficulty. If there were ever a team that just threw out a full lineup of 10.0 starts and fell on all of them, I would officially have a favorite team.

Minnesota gets away with a score there on bars for a rotation with some handstands and form in the first four positions. I guess we can’t complain about them being underscored anymore. But then Ramler? I feel like five routines in that lineup were given the benefit of the doubt and then Ramler obviously underscored by comparison?

Rotation 2

Quaglia – VT – Minn – hits her full, little hop to the side, chest down on landing. 9.750

Chung – UB – Neb – close catch on jaeger with elbows and a muscle up – straddled pak down to low – better final cast hs – DLO, whippy with some pike down, lunge forward. 9.575

Montgomery – VT – Minn – hop back on full, not a lot of dynamics there so will get deducted for amplitude and distance as well. 9.700

Hargrove – UB – Neb – good first hs – Ray high but also close on catch with some elbows – good height on pak – 1/2 turn good position after hesitation – up to high – stalder to double tuck is pretty, stuck landing. 9.875.

Sonier – VT – Minn – better chest up on the landing on her full, with a bounce back, better distance, fairly horizontal off the table. 9.750

MVC – UB – Neb – short first hs – 1/2 turn to nice and high piked jaeger, connected to overshoot – just some knees – better final cast hs – giant full to double tuck, stuck, bit late on full. 9.900.

Bars scores high for both teams.

Williams – VT – Minn – fab height on her full, so much more power than the previous vaulters – nearly a stick, just takes on a pike in the air on that vault in the second 1/2. 9.850

ADJ – UB – Neb – Ray, hit with flexed feet, connected to overshoot with a leg break – double arabian dismount, high but deep landing with a larger lunge back. 9.800

Ramler – VT – Minn – does her 1.5 pretty well, small hop to the side, knees in the air. 9.875

Crouse – UB – Neb – weiler 1/2 to gienger, only a bit of legs, good height, connected to overshoot – good final cast hs – nearly stuck FTDT, a little foot adjustment. 9.925

Loper – VT – Minn – small step back on her 1.5, just came in a little short – a better layout position than Ramler, but will get hit for landing short. 9.850

Houchin – UB – Neb – good first hs – giant full to tkatchev, good toes, not as high as other tkatchevs, but the form makes it OK – best hs of the group – very crisp bail – DLO, stuck. Pretty. 9.925

After 2: Minnesota 98.250, Nebraska 97.775

So the theme of bars scoring was “everyone except Lexy Ramler is a queen who deserves a 50” today for some reason. I don’t really get it. A huge 49.425 for Nebraska on bars starts making up for vault. Starts.

Minnesota will take that vault score. Got the numbers it needed from the final three, though the first three fulls will tend to keep this lineup in the 9.7s.

I’m going to assume that throwing John out into the cold was purely for my benefit.

Rotation 3

Curtis – BB – Nebraska – wolf hop to front tuck combination, secure, problem there is that it’s tough to hit a full wolf jump position there because you’re rushing into that front tuck – hits loso series well – appreciate the little “barfs a ghost” choreography – switch to switch series, some low back leg and a check – stuck 1.5. 9.825

Cutler – FX – Minn – front lay to front full, good position on lay, a little low on full, but mostly controlled – split leaps and jumps, hit position – rudi, a little legs and a slide – double tuck, solid landing, chest low. 9.825

Hargrove – BB – Neb – starting with that candle mount and has to readjust those hands while leaning her stomach agains the beam afterward – loso series with a lean – aerial to beat – switch to sheep, really lovely skills execution, but a lean correction – gainer pike, stuck. This is a situation where I’d expect a range for the judges because one judge will have seen the problem on the mount and the other wouldn’t.

Sonier – FX – Minn – double pike, mostly secure, just a little short which does show in the landing – rudi, a little bit of a bounce, nice pop – 1.5 to layout, very well controlled, some legs on the 1.5. 9.875

Crouse – BB – Nebraska – aerial to bhs series, a little slow in connection and a bit of a check afterward – good switch to straddle 1/4 – gainer pike 1/1 with a little a hop. 9.875

So, yeah, these scores are all high.

Nylin – FX – Minn – double pike, a chest down, small hop – whip to 1.5 to front tuck, it’s all a little low, but she gets it around comfortably – hits her switch side and popa – double tuck, a little knee-deep, controlled step.

Schweihofer – BB – Neb – bhs to lay-pike, minor check (note that lay-pike is its own skill in NCAA—a D, versus C for the pike and E for the layout, which is kind of cheating but is a thing, though you really want to show a clear layout before piking down to find the landing) – switch to switch 1/2, some back leg but not too bad – 2/1, small hop forward, legs crossed. Alicia calls it a stick and John is like “No, girl.” 9.875

Loper – FX – Minn – lay to rudi first pass, a little mushy in layout but the rudi was pretty – not quite to 180 in some leaps – 1.5 to layout, short landing on the layout with a step back, also some knees – another rudi to finish, her strongest pass of the three. 9.825

Houchin – BB – Neb – bhs loso and falls – it was super pretty as she went of course – aerial to beat jump, nice and high beat jump –

Ramler – FX – Minn – split ring jump full, hits the position well, a little out of control on landing – double pike, larger bounce back – switch ring and switch 1/2 are very pretty – rudi, another bounce back. Her score will feel the wrath of bouncy landings, but her form is tremendous of course – 1.5 through to 2/1, some chest down. 9.825

Hassel – BB – Neb – bhs loso series, small lean but hit – aerial, pulls it out well despite coming in a little short – splits to sheep, hit – 1.5, hop forward. Gets them through with a hit.

Williams – FX – Minn – front 2/1, awesome twisting form, just a little steppy on landing – switch side to popa, some pike in her position but good 180 – 1.5 to front lay, that 1.5 is so high and laid out – rudi, again excellent twisting form, bounce back

After 3: Minnesota 147.500, Nebraska 147.025

Nebraska gets through with five hit beam routines and should be able to sneak this thing into the 196s with a normal floor rotation based on how things are going. Some errors in that beam rotation but overall more solid than we’ve seen in recent weeks.

Rotation 4

Cool how ESPN just credited the Pac-12 Network for Deanna’s video of Katelyn Ohashi’s 10…

Sonier – BB – Minn – pretty loso series, good extension – beat to split 3/4, secure but not up to 180 – standing loso, hit – bhs one-arm bhs to 1.5 dismount, stuck. Really strong opening overall.

Orel – FX – Nebraska – Oh back earlier than I expected – double pike, solid, chest down – same on the double tuck, very secure landing, just some chest position – switch side to popa – 1.5 to 1/2 to stag, that’s where we finally see her abbreviate training time, a ragged pass, piking down the 1/2 and low to pull it together. 9.825

Large judging delay. Jenny Hansen lurking like a star. 9.725 which I don’t understand.

Korlin-Downs – BB – Minn – bhs loso series, secure, just some feet – beat to split to straddle 3/4, same, secure landings here – cat leap to side aerial to full, a little short, holds it with a lean. 9.825

ADJ – FX – Neb – 3/1, was a little under on rotation and has to bounce way back, doesn’t go OOB but a large bounce and an underrotated deduction – 1.5 to front loso and what I would call a pretty uncontrolled bounce out of it, though attempts to make it like choreographic running – double pike, better control, just chest down. 9.675

Pretty sure her music has burping sound effects in it.

Lu – BB – Minn – bhs loso series, perfectly crisp and executed – cat leap to switch 1/2 to beat jump with a little pause in between, strong positions – side somi with an arm lean correction – gainer full, a bit forward with a hop. 9.825

Schweihofer – FX – Neb – full-in, hit with a bounce back – lay to rudi was really strong, controlled step, good height – switch 1/2 to wolf full, solid – front lay to front full with a slide forward. 9.900. hey now?

Loper – BB – Minn – bhs loso series, also well extended and secure – a bit tentative in that full turn, I’d say for .05 – cat leap to kickover front, misses her foot and falls – switch to straddle 1/4 is solid – 1.5, stuck. 9.025

Hassel – FX – neb – good height and position on front 2/1, didn’t really show her landing there – 1.5 to layout – great height on switch 1/2 and wolf full – rudi to straddle, a very strong routine, good twisting form. 9.900

Sales – BB – Minn – bhs bhs loso series, keeps it on with a check, leg-up a little – switch to switch side, great height, hits her switch side position clearly horizontally – gainer pike, short with a hop forward college salute cover. 9.775

Crouse – FX – Neb – frotn 2/1 to layout, love the rise in her layout every time, so much better than most people – strong position on switch side and popa – 1.5 to 1/2 to something that will read as a straight jump with a small ankle separation but is intended – rudi to loso, good extension on loso. Another big score coming. 9.875

Ramler – BB – Minn – bhs loso series, lovely, good legs – aerial to wolf jump, now that’s the speed I like to see in combination – beat to split ring jump, probably needs to show more of a clear ring position (you see Alicia identifying it as a Yang Bo because the back leg is more like a YB position, but it doesn’t have the oversplit and ridonk head and back release of a true YB), but she gets up to her 180 position – aerial to full, stuck. Nice. 9.900

Still top beam score in the meet but not enough reward comparatively.

Even in a loosely scored meet, I still feel like Lexy Ramler is being underscored. So that’s where we are.

Houchin – FX – Neb – pike full in, hit, just chest forward with a little step – 1.5 to layout, takes it right to the edge but stays in with a hop – switch ring to split full, no trouble – double pike, solid, drops right down into it. 9.850

FINAL: Minnesota 196.550, Nebraska 196.375

Minnesota pulls out the win and will love the road score. It’s Nebraska’s second-best score of the season and not a bad one at all, but they will be ruing the missed opportunity for another huge home number because the scores were very much there for them, if not for the disaster-vaulting.
