Utah Scores

Bonus day!

Stanford accomplished its first goal of the weekend on Friday with a very usable high 195 in the GQ Invite, a necessary score, but will need to continue that with another solid score here since Stanford competes only twice in March.

Utah already has six scores over 197 to use for RQS, so there’s little “YOU HAVE TO DROP THIS TERRIBLE NUMBER” urgency in the score here (or for the rest of the regular season), but the Utes will still want to get out of those low 197s to avoid being completely left behind by the top 3.

Skinner won’t compete floor after competing it on Friday.

Interesting that this is Stanford’s senior meet even though they’re at home next weekend?

Rotation 1

Cole – VT – Stanford – good control on her landing, near-stick on her full, just the usual pike. 9.750

Lee – UB – Utah – good first hs – 1/2 turn to high pikaed jaeger to overshoot, legs together – front giant 1/2 to double tuck, flung out sort of, short with a hop forward. Clean on the bars. 9.825

Is this meet moving unusually slowly, or am I just bonkers cranky today?

Fitzgerald – VT – Stanford – full, another pretty good landing, this one just a tad short with a hop – has that pike at the end, not as much as Cole. 9.800

Dula – UB – Utah – nice toes as always – big Jaeger – strong cast hs afterward, a bit short of position on bail, and then short cast on high – stalder to double tuck, medium hop. She’s getting there, very little built-in to her routine because her form is so good. 9.850

Bryant – VT – Stanford – SMILE POLICE OMG SHE SMILES – too much on her full this time with a large bounce back – pretty good open layout position, tries to pike down to find the landing. 9.675

Tessen – UB – Utah – anotehr solid jaeger, good toes – strong vertical on cast afterward – bail, legs together – can get deducted for loose back in a couple casts – FTDT, small step back. 9.825

Flam – VT – Stanford – tries to sell the control on the Omel, small hop forward and then an extra step salute – nice power, distance, and does really well to keep the pike shape the entire time and not show that tuck too early.

MMG – UB – Utah – muscle first cast – toe to giant deltchev as always, close catch though for .050 – strong vertical position on hs – some moments of hand readjustment and elbows in here, but the money elements were strong, stuck FTDT

Yu – VT – Stanford – oof, came in really short on her full with a large lunge forward. It was so pretty in the air too, flares and everything, but then comes in short. 9.575

Reinstadtler – UB – Utah – shortish first hs – fab jaeger, lovely distance and toes – bail, legs together, perhaps a bit short of vertical – FTDT, small hop back. These are nice, clean routines on the bars, just giving away these bits on landing in most so far. 9.875

Brunette – VT – Stanford – she hits a full, larger lunge back and a clear pike there – some feet and chest as well

Skinner – UB – Utah – small arch in first hs – hit Ray, a little elbows – strong bail, legs together and right to hs – FTDT, sticks it. A couple loose back casts, some feet, not a lot. 9.950 is pretty high there.

After 1: Utah 49.375, Stanford 48.725

Not the vault rotation Stanford needed there with three landing struggles among the final vaults. It puts pressure on bars and beam to be right around 49 to keep up the necessary scoring pace.

Utah has cleaned up some of those first handstands compared to a few previous meets, so progress toward postseason level being made there.

Rotation 2

Lee – VT – Utah – her usual clean full, just a small step back, chest up, good form, just some distance to take, and then the step. 9.825

Lawson – UB – Stanford – toe shap with some legs, connected to bail – toe shoot – a short hs – fights through the giant full, connected to double tuck with a step. Hit. 9.775

Roberts – VT – Utah – another strong one for her, small hop back this time – keeps her layout position, just a bit more chest down than Lee, more height. 9.850.

Waguespack – UB – Stanford – toe on, a bit of elbows – shap to pak and peels off on the pak, looked pretty in the air, just couldn’t get her grip – resumes, good final cast hs – DLO, pikes down a little at the end, hop back. 9.125

Burch – VT – Utah – lands suuuuuper short this time, much like Aleeza Yu – chest way down, large lunge forward – will need to drop this score. 9.525

Yu – UB – Stanford – toe shap, lovely flight – connected to bail, good vertical position – stader into double tuck, hop back. Mostly clean, a couple foot moments and ankle separations, the hop. Overall good. 9.825

MMG – VT – Utah – 1.5, solidly done, small hop forward, some clear knees to deduct, so possible tenth for body form. No, still a 9.900

Brunette – UB – Stanford – 1/2 turn, short – into deltchev, hits it into overshoot, fingertips – some short handstands and some feet – DLO, best part, pretty DLO with a stick. 9.675

Skinner – VT – Utah – DTY, gets her stick this time. Very solid. A little direction we can see from this angle. Just a bit forward in chest. Basically the best she can do.

She doesn’t usually get this excited, according to Jim. She literally always gets this excited?

Bryant – UB – Stanford – good first hs – tkatchev, hit, a bit flat, good speed – hitting handstands cleanly – pak is perfect – 1/2 turn on low a little late – great final cast hs – DLO, big, hop back, some feet. 9.850

Tessen – VT – Utah – she has brought back her 1.5, a good landing, small step to the side, some knees to take and not as much distance as some others. 9.900. Thought MMG’s was stronger.

Flam – UB – Stanford – 1/2 to jaeger, catches but then her grip broke.

Big 49.450 for Utah on vault. On pace for a huge number.

Stanford trying to figure out what is happening for Flam.

So, they have the exhibition go while she is trying to get her grips back together, which is allowed. And now she will return. The timing on this can’t exceed 5 minutes because of the equipment break, so it’s not the same timing as a fall. Which is 45 seconds on bars, not 30.

Flam resumes – bail with a leg break – short on a cast hs – finishes double layout with some pike and a lunge.

“I guess it shows heart??”

So, Flam gets 9.750 for her re-done routine, which is a total ridiculous nonsense score for that routine. They scored how bad they felt for her with the grip break. Even without the fall.

I guess they’ll say she hit her jaeger and then had to jump off because the grip broke, which is what happened. So she was able to resume without it counting as a fall? I figured she would just get a total redo?

AFTER 2: Utah 98.825, Stanford 97.600

Somehow Stanford got a solid score for that bars rotation. There are barely any rules in this house.

Rotation 3

Fitzgerald – BB – Stanford – aerial with a bit of a pause into her back tuck – “I think I’m a senior” – a check, interesting if she gets the combination – solid leap position – strong landing on her aerial to two feet – 1.5 dismount, some knees and a hop forward. 9.775

Roberts – FX – Utah – front lay to rudi, good twisting form and height, secure landing – double pike, a bounce back this time – 1.5 to layout, nice layout position, a little shorter on landing but no adjustment. Solid, not quite as crisp in the second pass landing. 9.825

Stephenson – BB – Stanford – aerial, small gust-of-wind adjustment – bhs loso series, arm wave to hold it, some feet – split to sheep, another small lean – gainer full, stuck. Lots of hesitations there though. 9.725

Tessen – FX – Utah – front 2/1, pretty large lunge out of it, some knees – switch 1/2 to wolf jump full, short position on switch – 1.5 to layout, also a bit of a step out, good form – 9.825

Lawson – BB – Stanford – nailed arabian, excellent – switch 1/2, pretty solid height, didn’t really commit to the cat leap before that, but no one has ever cared – bhs loso series, arm wave and bend to the side to save it, some feet – gainer pike, little hop. 9.725

Lee – FX – Utah – 2.5, controls the dance out pretty well, some mushy legs, not too bad – switch through to switch ring 1/2, nice position on that switch leap – front lay to front full – THAT’s how I want a leg-up hop to look, none of this L hop business – 2/1 to loso, good and secure, some legs. 9.825. That could have been higher.

N Hoffman – BB – Stanford – aerial to beat jump, hit securely – bhs loso series, also solid, lots of knee form to take there though – switch to split, solid – side aerial to full, a little chest down with a hop. 9.825

Randall – FX – Utah – full-in, solid landing, chest down – switch side to popa – 1.5 to layout, showing solid control on these passes – double pike, stuck landing, chest down and legs apart in the air though, so it won’t be deduction free. 9.900

Navarro – BB  – Stanford – Pleased to see her back, jump to split mount – bhs loso series, large wobble, leg up break, shame because the TOES THE TOES so good – aerial, solid – switch to switch side, arm wave – doesn’t….do a dismount, really? – misses her foot, adjusts to do a layout 1/2 turn, large bound to the side and another couple lunges.

Sam: “That was awkward.” LOLOLOLOL

Soloski – FX – Utah – DLO, comes up short on this one with a lunge forward – 2/1, a little bouncy today – 1.5 to layout, has to curl her layout around, so a hit but not quite her usual landings, with deductions to take on each one. 9.850 a little high there.

Bryant – BB – Stanford – bhs loso, great smooth solidity – switch split jump, excellent height – front tuck, arm wave correction and little lean – double tuck dismount, hit with a step back. 9.775

MMG – FX – Utah – pike full in, has really improved the position on that in the air – switch ring to split leap full, low front leg on the switch ring – 1.5 to layout to pike – rudi to straddle, hit. 9.850.

AFTER 3: Utah 148.075, Stanford 146.425

Stanford hits beam, even with a lot of 9.7s, so can still salvage something possibly usable from this meet by going over 49 on floor. Utah looking like it’s going to be another one of those low 197s, but a big beam could make this season high.

Rotation 4

Lee – BB – Utah – leading off now – bhs loso series, larger arm wave correction there, unusual – switch to straddle 1/4, hit – beat to side aerial to full, stuck. 9.800

Cole – FX – Stanford – 2.5 to front tuck, a bit of knees, secure – switch ring to switch 1/2 – her trademark straddle jump – rudi, also keeps her landing in control, some knee form again. 9.750

Soloski – BB – Utah – aerial with a check – will need to redo to get a series – aerial, another check into bhs. I would not credit the series there, but we’ll see – hitch kick to switch 1/2, some back leg – switch to split, a little pause – front full, step. Now, interesting score to watch because I would have her starting at 9.8.

Hoffman – FX – Stanford – front tuck throught rudi, good form in the rudi, legs extended – switch ring to split full, you can see some short of 180 deduction from that good camera angle – double tuck, solid, chest up, nice – rudi to double stag with a ton of travel backward into that double stag. 9.875

Happy senior day!

Burch – BB – Utah – bhs loso and falls – off line there and caught her foot, wasn’t on enough to save or land it – counting the 9.600 from Soloski now – nice aerial – split to straddle 1/4, no trouble – gainer full, stuck. 9.175

Flam – FX – Stanford – double arabian, a little short with a small slide back, LOVE the position in the air as always – front full to front pike, good height, controls the step out – switch side to popa, a little indistinct – double pike, nearly nailed that landing with a little leg “where does this thing go?” moment. Very strong routine. 9.850

Randall – BB – Utah – bhs loso, super smooth, solid – beat jump to sheep, some crazy legs apart – switch to split, a little rushed there – rulfova, excellent as always – 2/1, step back. Nice.

Lawson – FX – Stanford – 1.5 through to double tuck, stuck, some things to take on leg separations there, but nothing on landing security – split leap full to split jump full was pretty short of 180 in both elements – bounce forward on interstitial front tuck – double pike, stuck. 9.875

Aw, when Stanford gets crazy home floor scoring and it’s just cute instead of infuriating because Stanford.

MMG – BB – Utah – switch to split, some back leg in first switch – bhs bhs loso series, hit – aerial with a little pause into wolf jump – 1.5 dismount, stuck.

Hoang – FX – Stanford – DLO, hits it, also a bit short on that with a step forward – split leap 1.5, around, a bit of knees – front lay to front full, a little steppy – double pike, super solid. 9.850

Skinner – BB – Utah – bhs loso series, solid landing – side aerial to sissone, feet – full turn, smallest arm wave – switch to straddle, a little pause but will get it – long pause – double tuck, stuck landing. Good one.

9.900 for Skinner.

Utah finishes with 197.125, another of the same score they’ve been getting every week.

Bryant – FX – Stanford – full in gigantic – chest up, controlled step – front tuck through to double pike, a little forward with a step – switch side to popa – doubel tuck, open, keeps front foot down. Strong. 9.875

Score gets Stanford to another usable 195.800. It’s still not the 196s they need, but it takes away the worry of regionals qualification.

FINAL: Utah 197.125, Stanford 195.800
