  1. Trinity‘s vault is looking better and better – Florida is still a threat for the top spot if they hit to the best of their ability.

    1. Boren doesn’t seem to get superstar credit very often. 🙁 If that routine had come from Finnegan or Skinner, people would be shrieking about the injustice of the 9.975 (and as we all know, if it had come from Ohashi this year it would have gotten the full 10).

    2. Super clean, but I thought a tad short on double layout and not a full split on her leap.

      1. Compared to the 10s we have seen this year that should have gotten a 10. Hell on Sloan’s senior night she got a 10 even with a clear hop on her middle pass.

  2. I don’t really think we can really call something an “underscore” when the routine goes 9.975. Yes, you could argue for a 10, which obviously one judge did, but it’s already a super high score. The bigger issues relating to underscoring are gymnasts from the non-top schools getting scores a tenth or more lower than what they would at top schools.

    1. I agree and disagree. Certainly the scores that get the most complaints about both overscoring and underscoring are scores that are really high (i.e. 9.975s that should have been 10s and 9.95s that should have been 9.90s). In most instances, I think that these shouldn’t be the ones we’re freaking out about, because it’s far more impactful when a realistic 9.85 goes 9.70 or a realistic 9.60 goes 9.80. But at the same time, getting a 10 is a huge milestone for a gymnast. If the gymnast is someone like Alicia Boren who hasn’t gotten a 10 before and then puts up a routine that was superior to the vast majority of routines that have gotten 10s this year and doesn’t get one, I feel bad that she missed out on that milestone. Especially since she’s a senior and it’s very possible that she’ll never get one. In general, I think complaining about a routine being “underscored” by 0.025 is a bit over the top, but I feel legitimately bad for athletes who put up 10-worthy routines and never get a 10, even if those athletes come from the schools that are getting the lion’s share of the overscoring.

  3. Totally understand where you’re coming from (same person who made the original comment above). You are right about the significance of getting a 10 for a gymnast, and the relativity of the 10s given. I just wanted to make the point that there are larger scoring discrepancies happening that we don’t talk about as much.

  4. But can we talk about the amazingness that is Lynnzee Brown’s floor? Her DLO is HUGE and so clean! She has my vote for the best DLO in college gym (the world?) right now.

I love that scrolling through this post, being blown away watching her floor for the first time has been more impactful to me than who should have gotten .025 higher or lower scores.

    1. Yes! I love Lynnzee Brown’s DLO!! I agree best in NCAA for sure. So so floaty. Also love that Khazia Hislop is making this list for the billionth week. She doesn’t have the same difficulty, but her form is perfection. Like Brown’s DLO, I think Khazia Hislop’s rudi is the best in the NCAA.

  5. When the crowd started booing Alicia’s floor score the judge who gave the 9.95 quickly looked over at the other judge’s score being flashed thinking the other score had to be the reason for the boos, priceless.
