  1. Utah vs. UCLA is this week’s marquee matchup. Everything about this makes it a compelling meet. Can’t wait to watch! Go Utes!

      1. I’m often amazed at the vitriol engendered by the Utah team. My observations are that they are a well behaved pleasant group of young ladies who don’t draw attention to themselves as individuals. Who are respecting opposing teams coaches and judges. They don’t get the the ridiculous crazy scores and simply go about the business of competing. Their coaches accept scoring good and bad without drama. So what causes the overt hatred of this particular team. I don’t get it.

      2. Utah is known for instances of poorly behaved fans shouting F*** YOU to visiting gymnasts (2017), or refusing to watch visiting gymnasts perform (2019).

      3. I’ll fondly remember how, on the old message boards, you couldn’t say something nice about any non-Utah team or athlete without a Utah fan popping in and being all BuT wHaT AbOuT uTaH?!?!?!?!?!?! Good times.

  2. I echo Marge. I’m new to NCAA gymnastics. See a lot of (warranted) support for schools like Denver with their small team and stellar gymnastics. Utah seems to be in the same boat as far as team size and talented athletes. Just not a lot of love for that group outside of Utah.

As far as the fans go, I attended one meet at Utah and didn’t find the fans obnoxious. They were respectful when the visiting team had a fall, even cheered a visiting team member’s floor exercise. I thought they were hospitable. Granted, there are almost 16,000 people in that arena and a band, cheerleaders, games, etc. It’s definitely an event and, like with any sporting event, some bad apples in the crowd. Overall, I can’t complain. It was a fun and positive experience. As compared the team near me… not as many fans, not as much energy. Also, you could probably argue that there are obnoxious fans everywhere…

    1. I live in LA and went to a Utah UCLA meet years ago. Cori Lothrop was one of my favorite gymnasts (Isa reminds me of her) and the fans were yelling that she was fat – that was charming. There isn’t much support for the visiting team in Bruin land also. Anywhere you go you find rude people and you can’t blame the team for a specific element. If Utah gets near 16,000 spectators you are bound to get some rough ones, unfortunately they tend to be the loudest. I’m looking forward to the meet this week and I might even try to go. Should be exciting. Hopefully it will be a fair, polite and safe meet.

    1. You ass. Have you ever been to a Utah meet. Whole families come. The kids are involved weekly. It’s a great atmosphere. People like you are propaganderists who simply want w tear down something that’s great because it is a trend. I suggest you take a visit to Utah and check out its beauty and great people. And yes. Take in a red rocks meet. You can see firsthand how much fun they are and how they support both sides. Yes you may find a small element of “deplorable” buy that’s the world right now. 99 percent of Utah fans are amazing and respectful. Spreading the negative as you just did says a great deal about your character Get your facts straight or keep it to yourself

      1. No just sick and tired of the Utah hate. I will say however that it was your racial slant in your comment that really got me. “white power rally”. Really inappropriate

  4. @Jane just for clarity’s sake, I responded to you but I didn’t write the tweet in question
