It’s one of those three-SEC-Network-meet days, but we also have Georgia/Kentucky only on streaming, which may end up being the most interesting of all the SEC meets.

Plus, there’s the first of the two Big Five meets to keep track of. This is the less deep of the two Big Fives, but still a critical competition for Nebraska to get the win with a high 196.

And there’s Oklahoma 10 Watch. So lots to keep track of. Then when it’s all done, you get a couple-hour break, and then it’s the first day of finals from Melbourne. And people always have looks when I say watching gymnastics is a full-time job…

Annual note: Yelling the word pink is not the same as helping people with breast cancer. Otherwise me in 2008 would have singlehandedly cured it. #ThisUsedToBeAFunHouse

Alabama/Florida, Rotation 1

No Reed on vault for Florida again.

Foberg – VT – Florida – nearly sticks the full, just a small rebound – good one – small amount of legs and piking. 9.850

Dickson – UB – Alabama – good frsit hs – bail looked solid, nice toes – hitting handstands well – toe on to tktathcev, good height, some better counter too at the very end – can’t hold the stick on FTDT with a lean and a shuffle, but good. 9.875

Skaggs – VT – Florida – a bounce back on her full, a more distinct bounce than Foberg but also better form, more open and more dynamics. 9.850

Florida switch to statbroadcast and it…hasn’t worked at all so far?

Gaskins – UB – Alabama – shortish first hs – maloney to pak, misses her hand on the Pak, doesn’t touch the mat but a major hesitation and an awkward moment – finishes DLO bounce back. 9.525

Alexander – VT – Florida – sticks her full, she has improved on that vault a lot this year – good power – just a bit of legs on block, strong open – nicely done.

She goes 9.950 for it, a perfect score for her full. It begins y’all.

Graber – Ub – Alabama – good first handstand – gienger with one insane leg, fully tucks her right leg – very crisp position on bail handstand – solid hs on high – FTDT, only minimal movement – good one except for the gienger. 9.800

Schoenherr – VT – Florida – nearly sticks her Y1.5, small step forward, another very strong showing. Just that little step-lean, not bad on form, a bit soft in the knees but also very dependent on angle. 9.900

Givens – UB – Alabama – hecht mount – good hs – blind to jaeger, nice toe point, loses her feet on catch – bail, hesitation in catch with some loose back – good cast on high bar – DLO, holds the stick but takes it pretty deep. 9.850 is high.

Thomas – VT – Florida – a hop forward on her Y1.5, but she’s also improving the control on her landing, it’s a smaller hop than we see sometimes, and of course the form is great. 9.900

Mahoney – UB – Alabama – short first hs – toe on to bail, small hip angle, good toe point – short on some cats in here though – hit tkatchev – FTDT, also holds a deep stick on her dismount with a bit of a lean. 9.875

Richards – VT – Florida – just like walking right to the vault – she lands short and locked on her Y1.5 this time, some knees and a shuffle back, so shouldn’t improve the overall team total.

Doggette – Ub – Alabama – huge tkatchev to pak, very nice – hesitant in 1/2 turn on low with a leg break – DLO, stuck landing. Best of the rotation. 9.950

Florida 49.450

Good vault rotation from Florida. Excellent from Alexander and Schoenherr, not perfect landings from several but minimizing the hops compared to some other weeks, so solid work. Moving in the right direction, though after Alexander, those judges were ready to pop off for 10s, and Florida hopped that away.

Alabama 49.350

Alabama stays just a tenth back after bars, and they’ll be breathing a sigh of relief there because they got some gifts in that rotation to keep the score that high. Did not get hit for form and handstands as much as they could have been.

Bridget and John I’m sure will both appreciate that extreme HD closeup.

Rotation 2

Burgess – VT – Alabama – nearly holds the stick on her full but then has an arm wave and a little hop forward, which will take down the score – 9.800

Richards – UB – Florida – maloney with some crazy legs into bail, also some foot break on bail – close on final cast hs – DLO, hop back. 9.825

Desch – VT – Alabama – small hop back on her full, a little bit of piking, solid direction, good. 9.825

Gowey – UB – FLorida – Ray, hit – smooth cast hs – pak, little bit of feet flexion and a small leg break – cast 1/2 on low – borderline final cast hs – DLO, small step. 9.850

Mahoney – VT – Alabama – another small slide back on her full, improved height and layout position from the first two. 9.825.

Hundley – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, small angle catch pak – van leeuwen with a bit more leg break than usual and muscles the subsequent cast, short – FTDT, nearly steps but doesn’t really, has a stagger on landing. 9.900 too high.

Blanco – VT – Alabama – sticks her full, pretty, though not the amplitude of some of the others in the lineup – 9.850

Skaggs – UB – Florida – good first hs – tkatchev to pak, smooth, small leg break on pak – rushes cast 1/2 on low – very stron ghs on high – DLO, overdoes it with a hop back. 9.850

Olsen – VT – Alabama – lands jusssst short on her DTY and tires to hold the landing with a lean of the chest forward, but then does have to step-salute. 9.850

Thomas – UB – FLorida – good first hs – maloney to clear hip to pak, a little too loose there but OK – good hs – van leeuwen, smooth – hitting hs – DLO, floaty, bounce back.

Graber – VT – Alabama – sticks her Y1.5 – one of her very best vaults ever – a little bit of knees, a hair deep on landing, but very strong.

9.975 for her. Not a 10 for me.

Schoenherr – Ub – Florida – toe 1/2 to her huge jaeger – solid cast to toe on to bail, small hip angle on bail and a little late on cast on high – double front 1/2 out, short with a hop. 9.850

Florida’s landings took away what could have been a big score here.

Alabama goes 49.325 on vault, mostly preserved by Graber’s excellent vault because everyone else was…good, close, but not amazing.

Florida still gains some ground with a 49.350 on bars, but no one did her best routine. They all gave away some ground that they don’t usually.

After 2: Florida 98.800, Alabama 98.675

Anyone else feel like one of the vault scoring problems lately has been the overvaluing of distance compared to other issues like height and extension? Along with how hops are not appropriately differentiated by size. Remember back in like 2010 when if both feet were moving on landing it had to be minimum .100 and .050 was reserved only for one-foot steps?

Rotation 3

Richards – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso, strong series, good control – switch to straddle, solid – side aerial (a bit soft) to full, rising up onto toes to hold the landing. 9.900

Klopfer – FX – Alabama – double tuck, chest up on landing, controlled lunge, good – split leap full to popa, hits her positions, loses her feet – back 1.5 to layout, hit, a little flat – double pike, chest down, a fairly large lunge back but controlled the front foot. 9.850

SJS – BB – Florida – hits punch front with an arm wave – bhs loso and falls. Resume with full turn, another pretty large issue with a bend at the hips – switch 1/2 to beat, good switch position – loso to full dismount, hop back. 9.300 is extremely high for that routine even though it will probably be overlooked because fall.

Olsen – FX – Alabama – double double, hit fairly well, just a bit short with a hop forward – switch – split 1.5 to split 1/2, good splits positions – front tuck through to double tuck, short landing with another hop. #ElitePedigree makes you know how big the floor is. 9.775

Baumann – BB – Florida – switch to split, nice – bhs loso series, smooth and well extended – switch 1/2, hit, gets to 180 is sort of a sissone plane – side aerial, well controlled – 1.5, low but holds the stick, deep landing. Apparently her leg was too high in her split, Bridget? 9.900

Blanco – FX – Alabama – double pike, pretty form but a bounce back – excellent positions on leaps – double tuck, shuffle back and a low chest on landing – she’s trying to #ELITEPEDIGREE these landings – front full to layout, soft in position. Definite improvement on the last time but still work to do. 9.850.

Gowey – BB – Florida – switch to split, loses her back foot in those elements – bhs loso loso, pretty in the air, maybe just a little lean landing it – aerial to sissone, good – full turn, smooth – gainer full, stuck. Good. 9.950 too high for me

Mahoney – FX – Alabama – double tuck, good control, chest up – split leap full to jump – is the sound off timing with the picture, or is that just how this is? – front full to layout, somewhat low to the floor, a little soft, but fine – double pike, some low chest but good control. 9.925, lord all of these scores…

Thomas – BB – Florida – switch to split leap, smoothly done – one-arm bhs to loso, crisp and excellent – aerial to beat, looked like a small hesitation in between that beat and her Korbut – side aerial to full, small slide back. 9.950. I would have been 9.900 for this one.

Desch – FX – Alabama – nice tight pike position but overdoes it with a bounce back – back 1.5 to 1/2 to split to front tuck, solid – double tuck, another slide back, fine routine but this one shouldn’t be as high because of landing control. 9.875

Clapper – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso series, hit – knees in the bhs but better in the loso positions – full turn, smooth – switch to split, eh OK – side aerial to full, stuck.

9.975. Oh brother. That was just lineup scoring as she doesn’t have the extension or positions of the people who were going 9.900 and 9.950 earlier in the lineup.

Graber – FX – Alabama – full in, chest up but a slide back – wrenches around her wolf jump 1.5 – front tuck through to double pike, good landing on that one, just some chest position. 9.925, oh hi, everyone is on crack.

Just a 49.675 on beam for Florida.

49.425 for Alabama on floor.

After 3: 148.475, Alabama 148.100

I remain surprised that this meet is as close as it is.

Georgia and Kentucky getting started now.

Ella Warren landed her full a little chest forward with a lunge to the side. 9.750

Lukacs – UB – Georgia – rushes first hs – butt-scraper tkatchev but hit – will get deducted for these casts – leg break on pak – DLO, a little short, hop forward. Did her usual. 9.800 christ no.

Nice full from Angeny, basically holds the stick, some form, not the most distance. Still goes 9.875. Whoa.

Hattaway – UB – Georgia – short first hs – giant full nice finishing position – gienger with some crazy legs – bail, leg break on catch – short cast on high – DLO, flung out a bit with a lunge back. 9.825. These are a tenth too high.

Final rotation starting at Alabama/Florida

Klopfer – BB – Alabama – hits her wolf turn – aerial to bhs, smoothly done – bea tto jump 1/2, also secure – cat leap to side aerial, also strong – stuck 1.5. Great routine. 9.900

Vega going on bars for Georgia – toe shoot to high – good hs on high – gienger hit, only loses her legs a bit at the very end – pak, some leg break -c ast 1/2 on low, past hs – the FTDT is back and she hits it, chest down and a hop forward. 9.800 my god

Richards – FX – Florida – DLO, hit with a little bounce up ,s ome chest position – secure front tuck through to double tuck, a good routine, controlled landing, some chest positions.

Gaskins – BB – Alabama – candle mount “VERY UNIQUE” – full turn is a bit hesitant – split jump 1/2 from side, hits it, holds it, small hesitation – bhs loso series, somewhat tight but solid – switch to split – gainer full, step back.

Arianna Patterson with some better control on her front handspring 1/2 this week.

Gowey – FX – Florida – front lay to rudi to double stag, traveling back but nice individual elements – double tuck, struggles to control that landing with a bounce back. 9.9????? Must be some kind of mistake. 9.900?!?!?!?!

Korth sticks her Y1.5 for Kentucky, just a bit of knees. Goes 9.975. It’s not a 10 vault for me because of knees and distance.

Olsen – BB – Alabama – some loose back leg in split jump but not bad – bhs loso, smoothly hit – aerial, holds it – bhs bhs double pike, hit with a hop back. Good. 9.875

Oakley back in on bars for Georgia and is the class of the rotation. Lovely piked jaeger – stuck dismount. Awesome. Just a bit late on cast 1/2 on low, but it was 3-4 tenths better than all these 9.8s in the lineup.

9.925 for Oakley, an actually reasonable score, but comical lack of separation in the rotation.

Hundley – FX – Florida – whip to double tuck, can’t quite control it this week with a little adjustment – double pike, small slide back again – switch side to shush 1/2, great – back 15 to layout – soft body position but that one was controlled. 9.900. Sigh.

Kentucky goes 49.375 on vault to Georgia’s 49.150 on bars.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, lovely – perfect extension in bhs loso but a step back and then steps into a little sideward arm wave – tentative on her switch 1/2 this week, which is usually a good element for her, short of position and a check – 2/1, slide back. Not her strongest. 9.800

SJS – FX – Florida – double arabian with a lunge forward, keeps it in bounds – back 1.5 to layout with another bounce out, nice position in the air – double tuck, bounce back. They’re struggling to control landings today, but you wouldn’t know it from the scores. And again. 9.900

Doggette – BB – Alabama – hits her loso series crisply, a bit soft in bhs knees but not majorly – hits her split jump 1/4 – switch 1/2 is not her best element, a bit short but hits it securely into beat jump – side aerial to full, off line and a shuffle back. 9.850

Thomas – FX – Florida – DLO, awesome, crisp landing, chest up – front full to layout to sissone, not her biggest sissone, but you know, pretty – split leap 1.5 to split jump 1/2, great splits, and if those were the elements she was going for, those were defined positions – double pike, short with a lunge forward.

9.900, actually impressed this wasn’t a 9.975.

Graber – BB – Alabama – bhs to lay-pike is right on this time – switch to straddle 3/4, a bit short on that split position – cat leap to kicover front to scale, holds through the scale, just a small hesitation – gainer full. Hit. 9.925

Baumann – FX – Florida – double tuck, very solid landing – controlled, chest up – dances out of her 1.5 to front full, a tad soft in knees – extension to spare in leaps – double pike, chest a bit too forward there, covers.

Roberts does her Y1.5 for Georgia, but it’s semi-insaen with knees and a large lunge forward –

Vega a better landing on her full this week, some knees and whatnot throughout, small slide.

9.975 for Baumann. SIGGGGGHHHHHH.

FINAL: Florida 198.050, Alabama 197.450

I officially cannot. Anyway, back to Georgia and Kentucky.

Hawthorne – VT – Georgia – pretty and powerful full in the air, bounce back

Warren – UB – Kentucky – jaeger, lovely toes and turnover there – clear hgip to bail, a little floppy angle on catch but legs together throughout – DLO, bounce back. 9.725 is way tight for that compared to what Georgia got from the same judges.

Lukacs – VT – Georgia – does just the full today – lands a little chest forward, some legs in the air.

Korth – UB – Kentucky – good first hs – blind to piked jaerger, nice control – bail, some angle – a bit short on a cast – DLO 1/1, stuck landing, Strong.

Lukacs got 9.925 for that full. PLEASE tell me they credited it as a DTY. I CANNOT. Because you can’t give that a perfect score for a full.

Ohio State and Illinois tied at 49.150 to start Big five. Nebraska on a bye.

Georgia got 49.375 on vault to Kentucky’s 49.300 on bars.

Arkansas/Auburn also starting now.

Arkansas getting stuck in the 9.7sd for bounces back on these early fulls.

Brusch – UB – Auburn – maloney to bail, a bit short of vertical – DLO, short landing with a step forward. She follows Sabados who went 9.875 for a large arch on a handstand

Shaffer – VT – Arkansas – Y1/2 – stuck landing, one of her very strong landings – beautiful position, very small lean to control the stick. 9.875. The one vault they can never seen to pop off on.

Nichols entirely out of the lineup for OU today.

Watson – Auburn – UB – short first hs – hits ray, a piked position in the air – bail is clean – short cast hs – FTDT, good stick there.

Hambrick with a lunge forward on her Y1.5 today for Arkansas

Day – UB – Auburn – toe on to toe 1/2 to jaeger to overshoot, excellent, super clean and big amplitude – rushes last cast hs – double arabian with a hop back.

The bars angle with the big screen in the back is the most insufferable.

Elswick – VT – Arkansas – huge block on her full, good power, bounce back.

Gobourne – Ub – Arubuen – tkatchev to pak, was lovely but strugglled on her cast half out of it with a leg separation, couldn’t get up to handstand and has to recast, major break – FTDT, step back.

Nebraska has gotten started on floor at Big 5, De Jesus finishes floor with a bounce back on double pike.

Houchin goes OOB on her double pike on floor.

We’re underway in the third rotation in Kentucky, Ella Warren had a miss in her first routine. Haigis is up 2nd.

Auburn has 49.150 to Arkansas at 49.100 after one rotation.

Austin – FX – Georgia – up 2nd after 9.825 from Perez-Lugones – struggles landing her full-in, chest well down and an awkward lunge back and OOB – switch to split leap full, not bad – front full to front lay with a lunge, some knees – double tuck, short landing with a hop.

Looks like Piringer struggled landing her DLO. Hassel was good before that for 9.900 though.

Long-ass wait for Haigis’s score from the second position for Kentucky.

Yamzon falls on her tkatchev leading off for Arkansas.

Haigis ends up with a 9.600 that will need to count for Kentucky.

Just 9.550 for Piringer in the 5th spot for Nebraska on floor.

Patterson – BB – Kentucky – good full turn – bhs loso series, good extension, arm wave and lean correction though – aerial, leg-up check – holds the stick on her 1.5

Significantly, Illinois has gone well over 49 on what should be the weaker events, vault and floor –

Gianfagna follows Yamzon and also falls on her Ray. Arkansas counting a fall on bars now. Auburn had a 9.650 for Sheppard on vault with a large bound out of her Y1/2, so they’re already counting a 9.700 there.

Baumann – FX – Georgia – back 1.5 to front full, nice and secure – only a bit of knees – double L drops too early for my taste but no one will care – finishes double pike, short with a step.

Day – VT – Auburn – very strong Y1.5 from her, rises up on toes to hold the landing, a bit of direction –

Patterson’s 9.675 will also count for Kentucky on beam.

Poland – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso, right on, the hit they needed.

Garner – UB – Arkansas – short first hs – giant full to an awesome gienger, got a litlte too close on overshoot but fine, good leg form – lone double tuck dismount, step forward.

Wasn’t it a lone double tuck? She still got 9.850…

Stevens hits her Y1.5 for Auburn, hop forward, some knees. 9.900 too hgih.

Hawthorne – FX – Georgia – bounce back on double pike – front lay to front full to an out of control split jump with arm wave to save it –

Watson – VT – Auburn – solid 1.5, just a bit soft in the air but another good stick. 9.975, why.

Hambrick – UB – Arkansas – they’ve hit the last two – piked jaeger just a bit close -otherwise strong – stucks FTDT, good.

Gobourne – VT – Auburn – a bit short on her Y1.5, step back. Still goes 9.900. Vault scores quite high in this rotation.

Auburn counts a 9.700 and goes 49.400 on vault. You know the things.

Shaffer pretty on bars for Arkansas but they are counting an 8 in this rotation.

Lukacs – FX – Georgia – DLO, slide back – back 1.5 to half to shush, good positions in the air, not the most amplitude – switch side to wolf full, not bad, slow in combination – double pike, secure landing. Good. 9.875

Angeny – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso loso series, solidly done – aerial, held – swithc to beat, strong – side aerial to tuck full, stuck. Good lineup saver.

Vega – FX – Georgia – double pike with a bounce back, keeps it in – 1.5 to layout to sissone, good, pretty sissone – switch ring to split leap full, precise positions – split leap 1.5 wasn’t around enough for me this week – double tuck, another small slide – they’ve added in Lukacs being kicked by Vega in the back of this choreo, which I approve of. 9.900 a bit high.

Georgia 49.225 on floor.

Kentucky ends up 48.750 after a pretty rough beam rotation.

Arkansas/Auburn third rotation is starting –

Yamzon – BB – Ark – very strong landing on three series – kickover to beat, a bit deep in kickover – gainer full, stuck. Good. 9.850

Nebraska working against a vault fall from Roby here.

Verceles Karr – VT – Nebraska – lands deep on her Y1.5 with a slide back but lands it.

Slappey – FX – Auburn – front lay to rudi, pikes down the rudi to land it, under control – switch 1/2 and split jump, a bit too short of position – large lack of control on double back. 9.625

De Jeus – VT – Nebraska – lands a little short on her 1.5 this week with some knees and a shuffle, fine but not her strongest showing. Still goes 9.900

Houchin – VT – Nebraska – nailed it this week. Crisp stick, great height, excellent. And they sent her up for it with the last score.

9.950. Pssssh.

Stevens – FX – Auburn – they’ll need to drop that leadoff 9.625 – front lay to rudi, suppper deep landing in rudi, landed in triangle shape to pull it around – finishes double tuck, another deep landing with a step, keeps it in bounds. 9.600

Illinois with another score over 49 on bars, just has to stay on beam, its best event, to get easily a season high.

Meanwhile Houchin’s vault saved Nebraska a little for another 49.200 there.

Lovett – BB – Arkansas – third up, following a couple 9.8s – switch to split to beat, smooth – aerial with a check, leg-up to her hip level on that – repeats the aerial and falls this time.

Final rotation starting in Kentucky

Magee – BB – Georgia – hits her loso loso series with a small lean correction on landing – holds the stick on her 1.5 dismount

Brusch – FX – Auburn – following two 9.6s – double pike, small shuffle adjustment – back 1.5 to layout, legs a bit apart throughout the series, controlled landing – switch 1/2 to a high popa, switch 1/2 could be a bit more extended, popa is excellent – double tuck, pulls it around, bounce back

Meanwhile Oklahoma went 49.525 on vault with a 10.00 for Trautman and 9.975 for Webb. You knew it would be.

Hawthorne – BB – Georgia – hits her bhs loso series with some feet – switch to switch split jump is quite short of split on both elements – kickover front from knee with a check, breaks connection into sissone with another check – good 1.5 dismount. 9.750 is way high. Nothing new.

Hambirck hits beam for Arkansas, a bit checky.

Ohio State went 49.150 again on floor to keep up with the 49sies.

Day – FX – Auburn – double pike, large bounce back and OOB – front full to layout with a lunge out – double tuck, short with a lunge forward

Carter – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso, saves a check with an arm wave, no adjustment – aerial, smooth – side aerial to full, goes up on toes to try to hold the stick. Good.

De Jong has a couple significant checks in her beam for Georgia, a leg up on her series – a lean on her split 1/4 – and a leg up check on her front.

Watson – FX – Auburn – double arabian, pulls it out, short landing with step back – switch side and popa are quite nice – back 1.5 to layout with a lunge forward – double tuck, controls the front foot.

Elswick – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso series, good extension, small lean adjustment – chest forward lean on a split jump to side – aerial, smooth – 1.5, step to the side. Arkansas avoids counting a fall on beam.

Pretty bhs bhs loso series from Oakley on beam – but she does have a large lean check on her split ring jump –

We never got a score for De Jong’s beam…

Gobourne – FX – Auburn – open double tuck, nearly sicks it and then steps her foot up to be like “oh yeah I’m supposed to protect my foot” – good leap positions – front lay to front full, shuffle – double pike, solid one.

Coming down to last couple routines at Georgia/Kentucky.

Baumann – BB – Georgia – side aerial to loso, small lean correction – a hesitation after her wolf hop before switch side, good individual elements – 1.5, holds landing with an arm wave. Still goes 9.875.

Worley FX – Kentucky – full-in, good security on landing, just a bit of chest position – switch ring to switch side – basically controls the landing on the layout out of her combo pass, near stick and then sort of stepppps…? – double pike, small adjustment. 9.900

Vega – BB – Georgia – switch to split ring jump, small check – aerial to split jump, good – bhs loso series, secure landing, feet – side aerial to full, stuck landing.

That’s enough to get Georgia to 197.050, the 197 meet they needed. I’m still not sure how after those first two rotations…

Korth – FX – Kentucky – full in, secure landing – lovely loso out of her middle pass – double pike, just a little foot movement but overall secure. Good finish. It will also be a good score for Kentucky considering that beam was bad.

Illinois already has a 9.475 and not we have a large break from Shaylah Scott in her routine –

FINAL: Georgia 197.050, Kentucky 196.825

Auburn and Arkansas have started the final rotation

Yamzon – FX – Arkansas – double tuck and double pike are controlled, chest down – front lay to front full, hit. A usual Yamzon.

Auburn got a hit out of Slappey for 9.775 in the first spot.

And now Illinois has a fall on beam in the fifth spot, meaning that 9.4 will have to count, opening hte door for Nebraska.

49.475 for Oklahoma on bars.

Brusch – BB – Auburn – aerial to beat, strong – bhs loso, hits, some feet in the air – switch to back tuck, short back leg on switch – 1.5, holds the stick for long enough.

Takekawa – BB – Illinois – trying to save this rotation – side aerial to bhs, some knees, small check – switch to gainer loso, little hesitation between the two – bhs gainer full, stuck.

Gianfagna – FX – Arkansas – double pike, controls front leg, some chest position – switch to wolf full to wolf full, would like to see more elevation in the switch – double tuck and sits it down, very odd in the air like she was twisting for a second on a non-twisting pass –

Illinois had a rough beam but still finishes with 196.250, a season high –

Stevens – BB – Auburn – hits loso series – switch ring, very secure, a bit ragged in shape – kickover to kee is hit, into wolf turn – 1.5, stuck. good.

Hambrick – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, great pop, secure landing, excellent – rudi to layout two feet to double stag, a tad of control on double stag, otherwise strong – switch 1/2 to popa, good height – double pike, a bit deep, keeps the step in bounds with an arm wave. 9.925 ok sure.

Sylvia – BB – Auburn – aerial is smooth but once again a little slow in combination in Rulfova – pike jump alone – sissone to sheep with a lean to the side – gainer full dismount, short with a lean forward to hold it

Shaffer – FX – Arkansas – double pike, clean position, small slide back – dobule tuck – split leap to straddles, gets a little out of control on her final straddle landing – 1.5 to a clean layout. good.

Watson – BB – Auburn – full turn, every so slightly hesitant – bhs loso series, step back, keeps it together, but a check – cat leap to side aerial, arm wave – switch to straddle 1/4, another small arm wave – 1,5 dismount, hop forward

Lovett – FX – Arkansas – DLO, great chest position, pretty, just does keep her front foot down it appeared – front lay to front full with some pretty dance out of it – like actual dance out of her pass, not a lack of control landing that you pretend counts as dance – double tuck is well short with a lunge forward. 9.825

Sheppard – BB – Auburn – bhs loso series, pretty – a little short on side aerial but works it out to avoid a check, still a deduction – hits straddle 1/4, loses feet there – bhs 1.5 dismoutn, stuck with a bit of position

Carter – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, small foot adjustment, lovely tuck position – back 1.5 to front full, a tad deep in the knees htere – has a gator chomp in her routine I think – double pike, short, hop forward.

Auburn finishes on 196.500, which is a good score but not exactly a game changer in terms of their ranking. Arkansas is not going to be able to use this one regardless because of the bars miss earlier.

Pretty much everyone in Nebraska’s beam lineup so far has had a major bend at the hips correction, but they’re staying on and still getting 9.7s.

Final: Auburn 196.500, Arkansas 196.025

Pretty surprised Arkansas got up to 196 there while counting a fall.

Houchin – BB – Nebraska – bhs loso series, hits it securely, aerial is smooth – switch to split, a small hesitation in between, good extension on elements – hitch kick to side aerial, hit – 2/1, small step. One of her good ones.

You guys Oklahoma just went 49.225 on beam while counting a 9.7. It’s basically like a fall.

Annnnnnd…LSU/Missouri is starting!

Houchin’s 9.875 will give Nebraska the win in this one.

Johnson – UB – LSU – shortish first hs – some leg break in maloney – good bail position – better cast hs – DLO, just a bit too deep and steppy on the landing, two small steps. 9.800

Gottula – VT – Missouri – great lift in her full and a stuck landing, really nice – just some direction and not the most distance.

Dean – UB – LSU – a bit short on first hs – hits Ray with flexed feet – toe on to bail, ends up at vertical – struggles to get final cast hs up there – DLO getting better, pikes it down to find the stick. 9.825

Hu with a pretty full, step back

Nebraska will finish on 196.750, which works for their score needs, finishing ahead of Ohio State on 196.475, and Illinois on 196.250.

Rivers – UB – LSU – good first hs – toe on to maloney,to bail, ends up in solid position – some legs in maloney but minor – short final cast – pretty DLO position, bounce back. Best of the group so far. 9.850

Brandt – VT – Missouri – handspring pike 1/2 – a bounce back, some chest position, but solid. 9.825

Durante – UB – LSU – good first hs – blind to jaeger, nice toes – pak, small leg break – a bit short on cast 1/2 on low – great final cast hs – FTDT, deep landing with small movement and then into a step-salute. 9.900

Porter – VT – Missouri – Y1.5 – one of her better ones – small hop and some knees, but good. 9.900

Shchennikova – UB – LSU _ short first hs – maloney to tkatchev to pak, some feet and body arch – cast 1/2, a little short from vertical – a couple cast positions – that DLO, whatever, tries to sell the stick but it’s really a step-salute. 9.850

McCrary – VT – Missouri – a larger lunge forward on her 1.5 and also some knees, so shouldn’t be nearly as high as Porter’s.

Harrold – UB – LSU – hecht mount to zuchold, small arch on catch – toe 1/2 to jaeger, great height – late grip change – double front, small step.

“They call that the Schlowern” They do not.

Harrold gets 9.900. LSU goes 49.325 for a pretty solid bars rotation. They were tight on their first cast handstands as a group, which hurt some scores. Missouri 49.200 on vault.

Scores sort of normal-high-I’m-not-having-a-fit-about-it status. Which is a severe contrast to some meets earlier in the evening.

Well, we’ve got Ragan Smith on 9.975 in the second position for Oklahoma on floor. So that HIDEOUS TERRIBLE beam score is already a thing of the past. Also Stanford might get a good number.

Also this rotation break has been really long for an SEC meet.

Rotation 2

Rivers – VT – LSU – great open on her full as always but bounce back on the landing today. A bit too deep. 9.750

Schrieber – Ub – Missouri – maloney with a leg break into a very short bail, borderline no handstand credit – short handstand on high – DLO, deep landing, holds the stick. 9.750 a bit high for me.

Rau – VT – LSU – one of her better Y1.5s, still landed short on her vault with a bounce back, some knees – but improving. 9.775

Sheremeta – UB – Missouri – short first hs – blind to jaeger, pretty position – good next hs – clear hip to bail, legs apart in baila nd collapses in the back on catch – 1.5 dismount, lunge forward. 9.750

Durante – VT – LSU – a large bounce back on her full – good layout position, has the dynamics. 9.775

Christensen – UB – Missouri – giant full to tkatchev, low but hit – better cast hs for her today – some angle on bail but not as large – giant full to double tuck, chest well down with a bound forward. 9.825

Harrold – VT – LSU – Y1.5 with a medium pace forward, not the landing we’ve seen a couple times this year but fine, will definitely get them into the 9.8s. 9.850

Tucker – UB – Missouri – bblind to piked jaeger, hit – some position on a cast – hits her bail – a slightly loose back on a cast – giant full to double tuck, step back. Solid. 9.825

Johnson – VT – LSU – DTY, good, a little forward in the chest position this time, step to the side.

Porter – Ub – Missouri – good first hs – blind to jaeger, not the highest but hit, some feet – toe to bail, elbows and a small leg break on catch – good casts though – double front dismount and finds the stick, good.

9.825 for Johnson. Remember the time that Lukacs did only a full earlier today and scored a tenth higher than that.

Edney – VT – LSU – a pace forward on her 1.5, also medium sized. A fine vault rotation. No one did their most amazing vaults. 9.900 a tad high for me, but the rest of this rotation was conservatively evaluated so I’ll allow it.

FINAL: Oklahoma 197.650, Stanford 196.000

Hu – Ub – Missouri – good frist hs – huge Church to Pak, really nice – van leeuwen, hit – toe full is late to double tuck, lunge back – was great at the beginning, lost it a bit at the end. 9.850 is pretty high for that ending.

LSU won’t be pleased by 49.125 on vault, a combination of not the greatest landings and some actual scoring. I don’t want to call this low scoring, because it’s not, but accurate scoring feels low when you’ve just watched Florida/Alabama and Georgia/Kentucky.

Now we’re having a moment about Mary Lou Retton. That’s appropriate. We’re all so inspired by McKenna Kelley.

After 2: LSU 98.450, Missouri 98.250

Rotation 3

Schreiber – BB – Missouri – bhs loso series, secure landing – switch 1/2 to split to beat, confident – punch rudi dismount, step back. 9.775

The judge has her UTL card up and it really looks like she is just labeled UTI. Which is not ideal.

Harrold – FX – LSU – front 2/1, controls the step out fairly well this time – double pike, secure landing, chest down – switch ring to switch 1/2, pretty positions – back 1.5 to layout, crisp position on layout. Good one. 9.825

Porter – BB – Missouri – switch to split jump, good positions – aerial to back tuck, pretty slow in combination, we’ll see what happens – kickover front, saves it, off line, arm wave to bring it back – 1.5, small hop forward. 9.775

Desiderio – FX – LSU – rough landing on her DLO, bounces well back, both feet OOB – back 1.5 to layout is hit – switch ring to split leap full, short of position on second element – double tuck, short landing, lunge forward. 9.475

McCrary – BB – Missouri – kickover front to beat, solid – bhs loso series, also secure – split jump to stag ring, pause in between though – gainer pike, hop forward. 9.850 is a bit high for me.

Dean – FX – LSU – double pike, clean, secure landing, not the highest pass but good – back 1.5 to layout, knees throughout – split leap full to split jump full, well short of split on the leap – double tuck, solid. 9.800

Sheremeta – BB – Missouri – lone beat – bhs loso, pulled it out because it looked like she was going to come up well short in the air – hits straddle 1/4 – a little slow in aerial to split but fine – slightly tentative in full turn – gainer pike, overdoes it with a bounce back. 9.800

Campbell – FX – LSU – 2.5, controls the step out to keep it in bounds – insane camera work – double pike is secure – switch and straddle obviously excellent – back 1.5 to layout, andother solid landing, knee form. 9.875. Scores rising now.

Gottula – BB – Missouri – bhs bhs loso, well landed – full turn, small correction – split jump to split 3/4, check – gainer full, stuck. 9.900 also quite high. I feel like the SEC button just got pressed.

Johnson – FX – LSU – good full-in as usual but cannot control the landing today with a bounce back – back 1.5 to layout, nailed landing – switch 1/2 to popa, lovely – double pike, small adjustment there. 9.925.

Hu – BB – Missouri – bhs loso series, check, good extension – switch to split, lovely – aerial to beat, floaty, good – aerial to scale, smoothly through the scale – gainer full stuck. Stop saying, “Here comes the dismount”!

9.975 with a check. Cool.

Edney – FX – LSU – HERE COMES THE DISMOUNT – double arabian large bounce forward and OOB – back 1.5 to layout – split leap full to split jump full, not hitting the positions there – double tuck, steps back and nearly went OOB again but didn’t drop her heel. 9.750

After 3: LSU 147.625, Missouri 147.600.

Wellllllllll now.

Rotation 2

Desiderio – BB – LSU – bhs loso series, hit – full turn, smallest hesitation landing – good height on switch – a lean correction on swtich 1/2 – aerial to sissone – cat to gainer full, stuck. 9.850

Gottula – FX – Missouri – double pike, bounce – front 1/2 to back 2/1, lunge back – split leap 1/5 to split jump 1/2, a bit uncontrolled in landing position – secure double tuck. 9.825

Dean – BB – LSU – side aerial to bhs, solid, knees – switch to split 1/4, good control on that this week, not quite to position – aerial to split jump, small hesitation between the two – side aerial to full, stuck, knees. 9.850

Sheremeta – FX – Missouri – front 2/1, a little steppy – switch side to popa, good positions, overturns the switch side a tad – rudi to loso – back 1.5 to front tuck, very low front tuck, hit it. 9.825

Durante – BB – LSU – full turn, smoothly walks out of it – bhs loso series, lovely form – aerial to split jump, works through the connection with an arm wave – switch to straddle 1/4, good lift on straddle – side aerial to full, chest forward and a hop.

9.850

Schreiber – FX – Missouri – double pike, chest forward – punch rudi to back tuck, well controlled – she has a bonkers start to hger run that I appreciate. 9.875

Edney – BB – LSU – aerial to sissone – bhs loso series with an arm wave – switch to straddle 1/4, all secure landings, some back leg on switch – kickover, solid – 1.5 dismount, short today with a slide back. 9.875

McCrary – FX – Missouri – front lay to rudi, chest down, a bit of bounce back – double pike, a small slide – switch side to popa, very overturned on switch side, close to switch side 1/2 to straddle 1/2 but not quite close enough – 2.5 with a crossover step. 9.875

Johnson – BB – LSU – “up next on the floor.” Nope. bhs loso series, very strong – switch to switch 1/2, a pause in between, good positions – aerial, short with a correction – 2/1, small slide. 9.900.

Porter – FX – Missouri – double pike, powerful, small movement – back 1.5 to layout, clean layout – switch 1/2 to popa, hitting those positions – double tuck, can’t control the landing, lunge back and another step to meet it. 9.850 still.

Campbell – BB – LSU – bhs loso, lovely positions – aerial to sissone, smoothly done – switch to switch 1/2 and good speed in the connection on that one – 2/1, holds it, little absorption rebound. Well, it was a tenth better than Johnson’s 9.9. 9.925.

Hu – FX – Missouri – front 2/1, just barreeely gets it around – deep with some knees and a lunge to the side – 1.5 to layout, very nice, crisp layout position – split leap full to split jump, second split a bit short – split ring leap, gorgeous – rudi, solid landing.

LSU 197.025, Missouri 196.850

So, LSU will pick up about a tenth in qualifying score by dropping a mid-196, but not the score they were looking for at this point in the season. A fine meet, a normal meet.

Missouri will definitely take this final score, a hit meet and solid progress point in making up ground in the conference.

  1. Wah… Spencer complains too much about fairness.. Wah… all the other teams but my favorite get picked on… Wah… Stop being the person you’ve been for 238221772 years. There, saved you the trouble.

  2. Glad to see the judges were willing to go 9.95 for Alexander’s full. It seems like sometimes judges are hesitant to give a 9.95 to a stuck full even when it has good height, distance, and form in the air, but yet there are plenty of people doing 1.5s who get 10s when they stick. I’m happy to see a 9.95 for an excellent, stuck full.

      1. I’m not just talking about Alexander, I’m talking about fulls in general. It seems to me that judges at many meets are more willing to take form deductions on fulls whereas Y1.5s tend to get more of the “landing deductions only” treatment.

    1. Or “perfect/great handstand” on a clearly non-perfect kch… (I really think she’s been improving in general; just has a few things to work on still…)

      1. Let’s see you all out there each week on live tv coming up with fabulous, new things to say!

  3. Love Florida’s Floor Music……..

BUT, the choreography for some of them does not seem it really is tailored to them.

  4. Russia must be hacking Georgia’s bars scores because this is wack. In JO Lukacs would go 9.2. But somehow 9.8?! What? Someone explain this Russian meddling/bribery scandal to me bc that whole rotation is trash.

    1. Ha ha! 😂

I was just going to comment that the UGA coaches must have some interesting photos of the bars judges in compromising positions…

      1. Heenan’s brother is a priest. I suspect they are being threatened with damnation…

Or having to babysit all 12 coaches kids…

Or the promise of smuggling them out of Kentucky.

      2. Or Rachel Luckas threatens to wrestle the judges and pin them down if she and her teammates are not scored well.

See story in the Red & Black.

      1. Yeah, I mean. Its not cohesive even between their own scores. Gowey had that huge bounce back and scored 0.05 tenth higher than Richards, which was actually a 9.9 worthy routine

  5. Graber’s routine was batter than all of florida beam rotation. Still gets 9,925 while all of florida’s go 9,95-10

  6. I’m thinking of having my niece go to Georgia with her level 5 bar routine. Seems like she could go 9.8+ with her back hip circle and fly-away dismount.

  7. Okk… my fantasy gym team has been suffering without nya reed, what’s happened to her?

    1. A few weeks ago it was announced she had the flu, did not even travel to Mizzou. I’m thinking it might be a more serious injury, I can’t imagine she would be out all of February if it was only the flu. She’s been on the sidelines cheering the team on with no obvious brace/wrap/injury indication, but she doesn’t even have a leo on. I hope it’s nothing serious, Gators need her in postseason.

      1. Ok people need to chill with the “my fantasy team needs X gymnast”. Express concern for what they’re going through as people instead of making it about yourself.

      2. Oh girl calm down. I am sure it is in good fun and in no way to disrespect the injured or ill gymnast.

      3. I think this is a perfectly reasonable place to ask about gymnasts’ injuries because of your fantasy gym team. (Directly (or indirectly) contacting them via Twitter or social media is wildly inappropriate, but that’s different).

Sorry if you’re don’t play and are bored by fantasy gym comments … but it’s a big part of why lots of people even watch NCAA so you’ll have to get over it.

  8. Magee got 9.95 from one judge on her Yfull with a hop back. Other judge went 9.8. How??

  9. I’m obsessed with Gracie Day’s floor routine – so unique and well-performed.

    1. I thought it was better this week than it has been in previous weeks. Nonetheless, it’s still a built in deduction, so it would be ideal if she could perform another dismount that was a little cleaner.

    2. It’s a pike-lay-pike. At least she lands it consistently. Her elite dismounts were always … interesting.

      1. Shchennikova should do a D-pirouette connected into a double tuck dismount. There are no D or E level dismount she can do consistently.

  10. If I had watched the Kentucky/Georgia meet without seeing the scores, I would’ve picked Kentucky as the winner.

  11. Do we know how Sarah Edwards is doing after her injury in Florida? LSU needs her vault!

    1. Agreed. Maddie Lau needs a year to really train and get prepared, but Edwards will be needed…. BADLY for postseason.

  12. “We’re all so inspired by McKenna Kelley“.

You know Spencer, some athletes, young and old may actually be inspired by her. Unnecessary dig.

      1. Just to make sure i understand this correctly, you’re saying that if you think a woman who literally transformed the sport we’re taking about today isn’t a role model and an inspiration for today’s gymnasts then we should just find another blog?

    1. Why should we be inspired by her? She’s out of college and doesn’t have a job. That is totally fine At her age but not what I’d label inspiring.

      1. I think her thing was that she wanted to be a motivational speaker, which she’s doing. But then you have to consider that she grew up privileged and aside from tearing her Achilles junior year really didn’t endure any hardships distinct from what any other level 10 would go through,so the digs that people take at her is partly the homophobic comments in the past, partly the association with her mom and her handling of the sec abuse scandal, combined with her utter lack of self awareness (which is honestly characteristic of MLR and her daughters).

      2. ‘Motivational speaker?’ Another ignorant theoFASCIST cunt fag-bashing for Jahayzuss? News flash, McKenna honey–Mommy did that already and she was much more (undeservedly) famous than you’ll ever be.

    2. You know, Anonymous, privileged little homophobic white bitches riding on their horrendous MOMMY’s coattails aren’t what most people on this blog call inspirational. Get a clue, sweetums!

  13. The live scores say OU got a 0.1 ND. Anyone know what for? RTN doesn’t include that in their score tho.

  14. Where is the person last week that said SEC scoring wan’t a “thing” anymore. Bahahahaha

  15. These judges must love Kennedi because all three of her scores have been too high. Not sure which score was the most ridiculous one.

      1. I do love her, but I am also very outdone by the piss poor scoring situation across the NCAA. It’s bad for the sport.

  16. despite how lsu did this meet, i was really impressed by their beam lineup. their leaps and form looked very improved and their confidence was great to see in a pressure situation. reagan campbell was the highlight

  17. “Nice opening pass” she says as Helen Hu stumbles around on the mat. This lady is a fricking idiot.

  18. LSU fought hard tonight. That Vault Lineup with decide how the rest of this season goes. If they can get Edwards back and Edwards back on Bars, then I give them a great shot to be right with Florida at SEC’s.

Did not think that they were drastically overscored, so overall…. a good day and an away score they will take.

    1. I agree. With lsu back at full strength and competing under the same judges, lsu and florida at their best will be very evenly matched. Looking forward to secs

  19. The scoring incoherence was tragic today in the SEC. There is really no way you can compare teams by scoring when the same routine gets a 9.8 in a tight scoring situation and a 9.95 in a meet down south

  20. No way Florida should have went 198+ tonight. They stuck 0 bar dismounts and only one vault was completely stuck and those weren’t as generously scored as the beam and floor were.

  21. I’m impressed, I must say. Rarely doo I encounter a blog that’s
equally educative and amusing, and lett me tell you, you have hit the naiil
on thee head. The issue is something too few folks are speaking inhtelligently about.
I amm very happy I came across this in my search for something relating to
    this.
