It’s one of those three-SEC-Network-meet days, but we also have Georgia/Kentucky only on streaming, which may end up being the most interesting of all the SEC meets.

Plus, there’s the first of the two Big Five meets to keep track of. This is the less deep of the two Big Fives, but still a critical competition for Nebraska to get the win with a high 196.

And there’s Oklahoma 10 Watch. So lots to keep track of. Then when it’s all done, you get a couple-hour break, and then it’s the first day of finals from Melbourne. And people always have looks when I say watching gymnastics is a full-time job…

Foberg – VT – Florida – nearly sticks the full, just a small rebound – good one – small amount of legs and piking. 9.850

Dickson – UB – Alabama – good frsit hs – bail looked solid, nice toes – hitting handstands well – toe on to tktathcev, good height, some better counter too at the very end – can’t hold the stick on FTDT with a lean and a shuffle, but good. 9.875

Skaggs – VT – Florida – a bounce back on her full, a more distinct bounce than Foberg but also better form, more open and more dynamics. 9.850

Florida switch to statbroadcast and it…hasn’t worked at all so far?

Gaskins – UB – Alabama – shortish first hs – maloney to pak, misses her hand on the Pak, doesn’t touch the mat but a major hesitation and an awkward moment – finishes DLO bounce back. 9.525

Alexander – VT – Florida – sticks her full, she has improved on that vault a lot this year – good power – just a bit of legs on block, strong open – nicely done.

She goes 9.950 for it, a perfect score for her full. It begins y’all.

Graber – Ub – Alabama – good first handstand – gienger with one insane leg, fully tucks her right leg – very crisp position on bail handstand – solid hs on high – FTDT, only minimal movement – good one except for the gienger. 9.800

Schoenherr – VT – Florida – nearly sticks her Y1.5, small step forward, another very strong showing. Just that little step-lean, not bad on form, a bit soft in the knees but also very dependent on angle. 9.900

Givens – UB – Alabama – hecht mount – good hs – blind to jaeger, nice toe point, loses her feet on catch – bail, hesitation in catch with some loose back – good cast on high bar – DLO, holds the stick but takes it pretty deep. 9.850 is high.

Thomas – VT – Florida – a hop forward on her Y1.5, but she’s also improving the control on her landing, it’s a smaller hop than we see sometimes, and of course the form is great. 9.900

Mahoney – UB – Alabama – short first hs – toe on to bail, small hip angle, good toe point – short on some cats in here though – hit tkatchev – FTDT, also holds a deep stick on her dismount with a bit of a lean. 9.875

Richards – VT – Florida – just like walking right to the vault – she lands short and locked on her Y1.5 this time, some knees and a shuffle back, so shouldn’t improve the overall team total.

Doggette – Ub – Alabama – huge tkatchev to pak, very nice – hesitant in 1/2 turn on low with a leg break – DLO, stuck landing. Best of the rotation. 9.950

Florida 49.450

Good vault rotation from Florida. Excellent from Alexander and Schoenherr, not perfect landings from several but minimizing the hops compared to some other weeks, so solid work. Moving in the right direction, though after Alexander, those judges were ready to pop off for 10s, and Florida hopped that away.

Alabama 49.350

Alabama stays just a tenth back after bars, and they’ll be breathing a sigh of relief there because they got some gifts in that rotation to keep the score that high. Did not get hit for form and handstands as much as they could have been.

Burgess – VT – Alabama – nearly holds the stick on her full but then has an arm wave and a little hop forward, which will take down the score – 9.800

Richards – UB – Florida – maloney with some crazy legs into bail, also some foot break on bail – close on final cast hs – DLO, hop back. 9.825

Desch – VT – Alabama – small hop back on her full, a little bit of piking, solid direction, good. 9.825

Gowey – UB – FLorida – Ray, hit – smooth cast hs – pak, little bit of feet flexion and a small leg break – cast 1/2 on low – borderline final cast hs – DLO, small step. 9.850

Mahoney – VT – Alabama – another small slide back on her full, improved height and layout position from the first two. 9.825.

Hundley – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, small angle catch pak – van leeuwen with a bit more leg break than usual and muscles the subsequent cast, short – FTDT, nearly steps but doesn’t really, has a stagger on landing. 9.900 too high.

Blanco – VT – Alabama – sticks her full, pretty, though not the amplitude of some of the others in the lineup – 9.850

Skaggs – UB – Florida – good first hs – tkatchev to pak, smooth, small leg break on pak – rushes cast 1/2 on low – very stron ghs on high – DLO, overdoes it with a hop back. 9.850

Olsen – VT – Alabama – lands jusssst short on her DTY and tires to hold the landing with a lean of the chest forward, but then does have to step-salute. 9.850

Thomas – UB – FLorida – good first hs – maloney to clear hip to pak, a little too loose there but OK – good hs – van leeuwen, smooth – hitting hs – DLO, floaty, bounce back.

Graber – VT – Alabama – sticks her Y1.5 – one of her very best vaults ever – a little bit of knees, a hair deep on landing, but very strong.

9.975 for her. Not a 10 for me.

Schoenherr – Ub – Florida – toe 1/2 to her huge jaeger – solid cast to toe on to bail, small hip angle on bail and a little late on cast on high – double front 1/2 out, short with a hop. 9.850

Florida’s landings took away what could have been a big score here.

Alabama goes 49.325 on vault, mostly preserved by Graber’s excellent vault because everyone else was…good, close, but not amazing.

Florida still gains some ground with a 49.350 on bars, but no one did her best routine. They all gave away some ground that they don’t usually.

Anyone else feel like one of the vault scoring problems lately has been the overvaluing of distance compared to other issues like height and extension? Along with how hops are not appropriately differentiated by size. Remember back in like 2010 when if both feet were moving on landing it had to be minimum .100 and .050 was reserved only for one-foot steps?

Richards – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso, strong series, good control – switch to straddle, solid – side aerial (a bit soft) to full, rising up onto toes to hold the landing. 9.900

Klopfer – FX – Alabama – double tuck, chest up on landing, controlled lunge, good – split leap full to popa, hits her positions, loses her feet – back 1.5 to layout, hit, a little flat – double pike, chest down, a fairly large lunge back but controlled the front foot. 9.850

SJS – BB – Florida – hits punch front with an arm wave – bhs loso and falls. Resume with full turn, another pretty large issue with a bend at the hips – switch 1/2 to beat, good switch position – loso to full dismount, hop back. 9.300 is extremely high for that routine even though it will probably be overlooked because fall.

Olsen – FX – Alabama – double double, hit fairly well, just a bit short with a hop forward – switch – split 1.5 to split 1/2, good splits positions – front tuck through to double tuck, short landing with another hop. #ElitePedigree makes you know how big the floor is. 9.775

Baumann – BB – Florida – switch to split, nice – bhs loso series, smooth and well extended – switch 1/2, hit, gets to 180 is sort of a sissone plane – side aerial, well controlled – 1.5, low but holds the stick, deep landing. Apparently her leg was too high in her split, Bridget? 9.900

Blanco – FX – Alabama – double pike, pretty form but a bounce back – excellent positions on leaps – double tuck, shuffle back and a low chest on landing – she’s trying to #ELITEPEDIGREE these landings – front full to layout, soft in position. Definite improvement on the last time but still work to do. 9.850.

Gowey – BB – Florida – switch to split, loses her back foot in those elements – bhs loso loso, pretty in the air, maybe just a little lean landing it – aerial to sissone, good – full turn, smooth – gainer full, stuck. Good. 9.950 too high for me

Mahoney – FX – Alabama – double tuck, good control, chest up – split leap full to jump – is the sound off timing with the picture, or is that just how this is? – front full to layout, somewhat low to the floor, a little soft, but fine – double pike, some low chest but good control. 9.925, lord all of these scores…

Thomas – BB – Florida – switch to split leap, smoothly done – one-arm bhs to loso, crisp and excellent – aerial to beat, looked like a small hesitation in between that beat and her Korbut – side aerial to full, small slide back. 9.950. I would have been 9.900 for this one.

Desch – FX – Alabama – nice tight pike position but overdoes it with a bounce back – back 1.5 to 1/2 to split to front tuck, solid – double tuck, another slide back, fine routine but this one shouldn’t be as high because of landing control. 9.875

Clapper – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso series, hit – knees in the bhs but better in the loso positions – full turn, smooth – switch to split, eh OK – side aerial to full, stuck.

9.975. Oh brother. That was just lineup scoring as she doesn’t have the extension or positions of the people who were going 9.900 and 9.950 earlier in the lineup.

Graber – FX – Alabama – full in, chest up but a slide back – wrenches around her wolf jump 1.5 – front tuck through to double pike, good landing on that one, just some chest position. 9.925, oh hi, everyone is on crack.

Just a 49.675 on beam for Florida.

Ella Warren landed her full a little chest forward with a lunge to the side. 9.750

Lukacs – UB – Georgia – rushes first hs – butt-scraper tkatchev but hit – will get deducted for these casts – leg break on pak – DLO, a little short, hop forward. Did her usual. 9.800 christ no.

Nice full from Angeny, basically holds the stick, some form, not the most distance. Still goes 9.875. Whoa.

Hattaway – UB – Georgia – short first hs – giant full nice finishing position – gienger with some crazy legs – bail, leg break on catch – short cast on high – DLO, flung out a bit with a lunge back. 9.825. These are a tenth too high.

Klopfer – BB – Alabama – hits her wolf turn – aerial to bhs, smoothly done – bea tto jump 1/2, also secure – cat leap to side aerial, also strong – stuck 1.5. Great routine. 9.900

Vega going on bars for Georgia – toe shoot to high – good hs on high – gienger hit, only loses her legs a bit at the very end – pak, some leg break -c ast 1/2 on low, past hs – the FTDT is back and she hits it, chest down and a hop forward. 9.800 my god

Richards – FX – Florida – DLO, hit with a little bounce up ,s ome chest position – secure front tuck through to double tuck, a good routine, controlled landing, some chest positions.

Gaskins – BB – Alabama – candle mount “VERY UNIQUE” – full turn is a bit hesitant – split jump 1/2 from side, hits it, holds it, small hesitation – bhs loso series, somewhat tight but solid – switch to split – gainer full, step back.

Arianna Patterson with some better control on her front handspring 1/2 this week.

Gowey – FX – Florida – front lay to rudi to double stag, traveling back but nice individual elements – double tuck, struggles to control that landing with a bounce back. 9.9????? Must be some kind of mistake. 9.900?!?!?!?!

Korth sticks her Y1.5 for Kentucky, just a bit of knees. Goes 9.975. It’s not a 10 vault for me because of knees and distance.

Olsen – BB – Alabama – some loose back leg in split jump but not bad – bhs loso, smoothly hit – aerial, holds it – bhs bhs double pike, hit with a hop back. Good. 9.875

Oakley back in on bars for Georgia and is the class of the rotation. Lovely piked jaeger – stuck dismount. Awesome. Just a bit late on cast 1/2 on low, but it was 3-4 tenths better than all these 9.8s in the lineup.

9.925 for Oakley, an actually reasonable score, but comical lack of separation in the rotation.

Hundley – FX – Florida – whip to double tuck, can’t quite control it this week with a little adjustment – double pike, small slide back again – switch side to shush 1/2, great – back 15 to layout – soft body position but that one was controlled. 9.900. Sigh.

Kentucky goes 49.375 on vault to Georgia’s 49.150 on bars.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, lovely – perfect extension in bhs loso but a step back and then steps into a little sideward arm wave – tentative on her switch 1/2 this week, which is usually a good element for her, short of position and a check – 2/1, slide back. Not her strongest. 9.800

SJS – FX – Florida – double arabian with a lunge forward, keeps it in bounds – back 1.5 to layout with another bounce out, nice position in the air – double tuck, bounce back. They’re struggling to control landings today, but you wouldn’t know it from the scores. And again. 9.900

Doggette – BB – Alabama – hits her loso series crisply, a bit soft in bhs knees but not majorly – hits her split jump 1/4 – switch 1/2 is not her best element, a bit short but hits it securely into beat jump – side aerial to full, off line and a shuffle back. 9.850

Thomas – FX – Florida – DLO, awesome, crisp landing, chest up – front full to layout to sissone, not her biggest sissone, but you know, pretty – split leap 1.5 to split jump 1/2, great splits, and if those were the elements she was going for, those were defined positions – double pike, short with a lunge forward.

9.900, actually impressed this wasn’t a 9.975.

Graber – BB – Alabama – bhs to lay-pike is right on this time – switch to straddle 3/4, a bit short on that split position – cat leap to kicover front to scale, holds through the scale, just a small hesitation – gainer full. Hit. 9.925

Baumann – FX – Florida – double tuck, very solid landing – controlled, chest up – dances out of her 1.5 to front full, a tad soft in knees – extension to spare in leaps – double pike, chest a bit too forward there, covers.

Roberts does her Y1.5 for Georgia, but it’s semi-insaen with knees and a large lunge forward –

Vega a better landing on her full this week, some knees and whatnot throughout, small slide.

Hawthorne – VT – Georgia – pretty and powerful full in the air, bounce back

Warren – UB – Kentucky – jaeger, lovely toes and turnover there – clear hgip to bail, a little floppy angle on catch but legs together throughout – DLO, bounce back. 9.725 is way tight for that compared to what Georgia got from the same judges.

Lukacs – VT – Georgia – does just the full today – lands a little chest forward, some legs in the air.

Korth – UB – Kentucky – good first hs – blind to piked jaerger, nice control – bail, some angle – a bit short on a cast – DLO 1/1, stuck landing, Strong.

Lukacs got 9.925 for that full. PLEASE tell me they credited it as a DTY. I CANNOT. Because you can’t give that a perfect score for a full.

Ohio State and Illinois tied at 49.150 to start Big five. Nebraska on a bye.

Georgia got 49.375 on vault to Kentucky’s 49.300 on bars.

Arkansas/Auburn also starting now.

The bars angle with the big screen in the back is the most insufferable.

Gobourne – Ub – Arubuen – tkatchev to pak, was lovely but strugglled on her cast half out of it with a leg separation, couldn’t get up to handstand and has to recast, major break – FTDT, step back.

We’re underway in the third rotation in Kentucky, Ella Warren had a miss in her first routine. Haigis is up 2nd.

Auburn has 49.150 to Arkansas at 49.100 after one rotation.

Austin – FX – Georgia – up 2nd after 9.825 from Perez-Lugones – struggles landing her full-in, chest well down and an awkward lunge back and OOB – switch to split leap full, not bad – front full to front lay with a lunge, some knees – double tuck, short landing with a hop.

Looks like Piringer struggled landing her DLO. Hassel was good before that for 9.900 though.

Baumann – FX – Georgia – back 1.5 to front full, nice and secure – only a bit of knees – double L drops too early for my taste but no one will care – finishes double pike, short with a step.

Day – VT – Auburn – very strong Y1.5 from her, rises up on toes to hold the landing, a bit of direction –

Patterson’s 9.675 will also count for Kentucky on beam.

Poland – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso, right on, the hit they needed.

Garner – UB – Arkansas – short first hs – giant full to an awesome gienger, got a litlte too close on overshoot but fine, good leg form – lone double tuck dismount, step forward.

Vega – FX – Georgia – double pike with a bounce back, keeps it in – 1.5 to layout to sissone, good, pretty sissone – switch ring to split leap full, precise positions – split leap 1.5 wasn’t around enough for me this week – double tuck, another small slide – they’ve added in Lukacs being kicked by Vega in the back of this choreo, which I approve of. 9.900 a bit high.

Yamzon – BB – Ark – very strong landing on three series – kickover to beat, a bit deep in kickover – gainer full, stuck. Good. 9.850

Verceles Karr – VT – Nebraska – lands deep on her Y1.5 with a slide back but lands it.

De Jeus – VT – Nebraska – lands a little short on her 1.5 this week with some knees and a shuffle, fine but not her strongest showing. Still goes 9.900

Houchin – VT – Nebraska – nailed it this week. Crisp stick, great height, excellent. And they sent her up for it with the last score.

Stevens – FX – Auburn – they’ll need to drop that leadoff 9.625 – front lay to rudi, suppper deep landing in rudi, landed in triangle shape to pull it around – finishes double tuck, another deep landing with a step, keeps it in bounds. 9.600

Illinois with another score over 49 on bars, just has to stay on beam, its best event, to get easily a season high.

Meanwhile Houchin’s vault saved Nebraska a little for another 49.200 there.

Lovett – BB – Arkansas – third up, following a couple 9.8s – switch to split to beat, smooth – aerial with a check, leg-up to her hip level on that – repeats the aerial and falls this time.

Magee – BB – Georgia – hits her loso loso series with a small lean correction on landing – holds the stick on her 1.5 dismount

Brusch – FX – Auburn – following two 9.6s – double pike, small shuffle adjustment – back 1.5 to layout, legs a bit apart throughout the series, controlled landing – switch 1/2 to a high popa, switch 1/2 could be a bit more extended, popa is excellent – double tuck, pulls it around, bounce back

Meanwhile Oklahoma went 49.525 on vault with a 10.00 for Trautman and 9.975 for Webb. You knew it would be.

Hawthorne – BB – Georgia – hits her bhs loso series with some feet – switch to switch split jump is quite short of split on both elements – kickover front from knee with a check, breaks connection into sissone with another check – good 1.5 dismount. 9.750 is way high. Nothing new.

De Jong has a couple significant checks in her beam for Georgia, a leg up on her series – a lean on her split 1/4 – and a leg up check on her front.

Watson – FX – Auburn – double arabian, pulls it out, short landing with step back – switch side and popa are quite nice – back 1.5 to layout with a lunge forward – double tuck, controls the front foot.

Elswick – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso series, good extension, small lean adjustment – chest forward lean on a split jump to side – aerial, smooth – 1.5, step to the side. Arkansas avoids counting a fall on beam.

Korth – FX – Kentucky – full in, secure landing – lovely loso out of her middle pass – double pike, just a little foot movement but overall secure. Good finish. It will also be a good score for Kentucky considering that beam was bad.

Gianfagna – FX – Arkansas – double pike, controls front leg, some chest position – switch to wolf full to wolf full, would like to see more elevation in the switch – double tuck and sits it down, very odd in the air like she was twisting for a second on a non-twisting pass –

Illinois had a rough beam but still finishes with 196.250, a season high –

Stevens – BB – Auburn – hits loso series – switch ring, very secure, a bit ragged in shape – kickover to kee is hit, into wolf turn – 1.5, stuck. good.

Hambrick – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, great pop, secure landing, excellent – rudi to layout two feet to double stag, a tad of control on double stag, otherwise strong – switch 1/2 to popa, good height – double pike, a bit deep, keeps the step in bounds with an arm wave. 9.925 ok sure.

Sylvia – BB – Auburn – aerial is smooth but once again a little slow in combination in Rulfova – pike jump alone – sissone to sheep with a lean to the side – gainer full dismount, short with a lean forward to hold it

Shaffer – FX – Arkansas – double pike, clean position, small slide back – dobule tuck – split leap to straddles, gets a little out of control on her final straddle landing – 1.5 to a clean layout. good.

Watson – BB – Auburn – full turn, every so slightly hesitant – bhs loso series, step back, keeps it together, but a check – cat leap to side aerial, arm wave – switch to straddle 1/4, another small arm wave – 1,5 dismount, hop forward

Lovett – FX – Arkansas – DLO, great chest position, pretty, just does keep her front foot down it appeared – front lay to front full with some pretty dance out of it – like actual dance out of her pass, not a lack of control landing that you pretend counts as dance – double tuck is well short with a lunge forward. 9.825

Sheppard – BB – Auburn – bhs loso series, pretty – a little short on side aerial but works it out to avoid a check, still a deduction – hits straddle 1/4, loses feet there – bhs 1.5 dismoutn, stuck with a bit of position

Carter – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, small foot adjustment, lovely tuck position – back 1.5 to front full, a tad deep in the knees htere – has a gator chomp in her routine I think – double pike, short, hop forward.

Auburn finishes on 196.500, which is a good score but not exactly a game changer in terms of their ranking. Arkansas is not going to be able to use this one regardless because of the bars miss earlier.

Pretty much everyone in Nebraska’s beam lineup so far has had a major bend at the hips correction, but they’re staying on and still getting 9.7s.

Pretty surprised Arkansas got up to 196 there while counting a fall.

Houchin – BB – Nebraska – bhs loso series, hits it securely, aerial is smooth – switch to split, a small hesitation in between, good extension on elements – hitch kick to side aerial, hit – 2/1, small step. One of her good ones.

You guys Oklahoma just went 49.225 on beam while counting a 9.7. It’s basically like a fall.

McCrary – VT – Missouri – a larger lunge forward on her 1.5 and also some knees, so shouldn’t be nearly as high as Porter’s.

Harrold – UB – LSU – hecht mount to zuchold, small arch on catch – toe 1/2 to jaeger, great height – late grip change – double front, small step.

Harrold gets 9.900. LSU goes 49.325 for a pretty solid bars rotation. They were tight on their first cast handstands as a group, which hurt some scores. Missouri 49.200 on vault.

Scores sort of normal-high-I’m-not-having-a-fit-about-it status. Which is a severe contrast to some meets earlier in the evening.

Well, we’ve got Ragan Smith on 9.975 in the second position for Oklahoma on floor. So that HIDEOUS TERRIBLE beam score is already a thing of the past. Also Stanford might get a good number.

Also this rotation break has been really long for an SEC meet.

Rau – VT – LSU – one of her better Y1.5s, still landed short on her vault with a bounce back, some knees – but improving. 9.775

9.825 for Johnson. Remember the time that Lukacs did only a full earlier today and scored a tenth higher than that.

Edney – VT – LSU – a pace forward on her 1.5, also medium sized. A fine vault rotation. No one did their most amazing vaults. 9.900 a tad high for me, but the rest of this rotation was conservatively evaluated so I’ll allow it.

Hu – Ub – Missouri – good frist hs – huge Church to Pak, really nice – van leeuwen, hit – toe full is late to double tuck, lunge back – was great at the beginning, lost it a bit at the end. 9.850 is pretty high for that ending.

LSU won’t be pleased by 49.125 on vault, a combination of not the greatest landings and some actual scoring. I don’t want to call this low scoring, because it’s not, but accurate scoring feels low when you’ve just watched Florida/Alabama and Georgia/Kentucky.

So, LSU will pick up about a tenth in qualifying score by dropping a mid-196, but not the score they were looking for at this point in the season. A fine meet, a normal meet.

Missouri will definitely take this final score, a hit meet and solid progress point in making up ground in the conference.
