The first one to get underway today is New Hampshire/Michigan, which is a pretty important meet for UNH, currently hanging around the drop zone and looking for a high 195 today to start to get rid of a bunch of 195.1s that still have to count and aren’t helping the regionals quest. Michigan is of course in a pretty safe position at this point but would like to make sure some residual 196s go away with something like another home 197.3.

Rotation 1 starts with another near-stick from Heiskell on a full, small bounce back, good position. 9.900 with a no-stick. Was last week a trend?

Hampford – UB – UNH – small leg break in blind into jaeger to overshoot, catches a bit close on jaeger – leg sep on giant full into double tuck, shuffle to the side. 9.750

Koulos – VT – Michigan – big full but does not have the landing control with a large bounce back, some leg form. 9.775

Watkins – UB – UNH – hits jaeger, just some slightly soft position – 1/2 to straddle back, nice vertical position there – short cast on high – DLO, shorter with a hop forward. 9.700

Brenner – VT – Michigan – hop forward on her 1.5, medium size. Solid vault. 9.875

Freehling – Ub – UNH – blind to piked jaeger, solid – short cast, some hip angle on bail – better final cast hs – DLO, stuck landing, some piking. 9.800

Brooks – VT – Michigan – huge 1.5 and just a little hop forward at the end, nice job. I would go 9.9 for it, but the judge who went 9.9 for Brenner will need to go 9.950 here because Brooks’ was better. But doesn’t. 9.900. All vaults are the same, even those that aren’t.

Lui – Ub – UNH – lots of straddle on Maloney – toe on to bail, legs well apart there as well – nice half turn on top of high bar – double tuck, cowboy, hop back. 9.725

Wojcik – VT – Michigan – pretty 1.5 as always, a sizeable lunge forward this time that will need to be a tenth. 9.875

Anyone else having a ton of problems with FLO today? (Correct response: Just today?) I’ve lost the stream there.

We’re back – Wilson with a fantastic 1.5 – small movement of one foot – she has improved her form over the last few months and now does a super clean 1.5. 9.925 there. I thought we had 9.875, which would have been weird.

Gorgenyi finishes for UNH – best maloney to bail legs of the bunch – FTDT with a hop back.

It’s 49.475 for Michigan on vault, a big score for a solid rotation, though no sticks there. I had them around 49.300 or 49.350, so scores a bit high but not destroying my life.

48.825 for New Hampshire is fine. A little below the pace they were looking for, but they can make that up on the second half events.

Florida/Georgia will start at some point during this second rotation, but I’ll keep an eye on Michigan’s pace, especially now that high 197s are the new normal starting exactly one week ago.

Heiskell leads off bars for Michigan with a good blind to jaeger, caught close but had nice toes – pretty Pak position – strong hs on high – giant full to double tuck with a fake stick. 9.875 starting from a semi high place.

Miele hits a full for UNH, chest well down, piking, step to the side. 9.625

O’Hara – UB – Michigan – blind to jaeger, a bit late on blind – nice cast and bail positions – pretty close on these handstands – DLO, good straight shape but a bounce back. 9.850

Freehling – VT – UNH – a bounce back on her full, still some piking but a bit better chest up and direction that the last couple

Brenner – UB – Michigan – small arch on first hs – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good positions on those elements – solid cast on high – DLO, a tad short resulting in a hop forward. 9.850

Kelley – VT – UNH – best chest position so far – lunge back on her full – quite off to the side. 9.700

Brooks – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger, very solid – good hs position – toe on to bail, hits vertical, solid toe posision – casts look clean – DLO full, nearly holds the stick with a lean, ends up hopping a bit. 9.925

Winer VT – UNH – much bigger full, more laid out, but also a large bounce back –

Wilson – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger, solid, a bit of feet – small arch in cast on high – another arch cathcing her bail, both easily pulled back but deductions – DLO is pretty, small step back with an arm swim. 9.875 is v high for those two arches. No separation here again.

Big bounce back for Gorgenyi on her full. Winer and Gorgenyi had the chance to build scores but didn’t have the landings.

Wojcik – UB – Michigan – a bit short on first hs – deltchev, awesome – strong second hs – bail, a little floppy on catch but fine, gets to vertical – excellent final cast on high – DLO, gets the landing. Good.

9.950 for Wojcik. Another 49.475 for Michigan for another pretty softly scored rotation. I told you Michigan is totally a cool kid now.

And we got to see that whole rotation before Florida/Georgia starts after all.

UNH is at 97.300 after vault and is REALLY going to have to pick up the pace now…

Gowey – UB – Florida – Ray, solid – smooth cast – toe on to pak, small leg break – a tad late on 1/2 turn on low – handstand a bit short – DLO, lean to try to hold it but takes a step. 9.800

Baumann – VT – UGA – a bounce back on her full, fine, normal, but a notable hop – just a bit of leg position. 9.800

Hundley – UB – FLorida – maloney to pak, her usual, high and smooth, little leg break – small arch on hs on low – van leeuwen – some muscle on cast out of it – FTDT, stuck with a stagger. Good. 9.825. Bars scoring justified and sensible so far. Which is new.

Vega – VT – UGA – one of her better controlled landings – small hop back – good distance – 9.875

Skaggs – UB – Florida – good first hs – lovely tkatchev to pak, legs together, just a bit of toes on that pak – the counter rotation on that tkatchev is a dream – DLO, hop back. 9.875

Hawthorne – VT – UGA – a huge full and an equally huge bounce back on her vault – good layout shape and overcooks the vault, resulting in the bounce. 9.800 for a full with what had to be a multi-tenth bounce.

Schoenherr – UB – Florida – toe 1/2 to jaeger, huge jaeger – good cast after – toe to bail, solid vertical, a tocuh of loose back there – blind to double front 1/2 out, small step. The step and a couple late positions on her 1/2 turns, but strong.

Lukacs – VT – UGA – does her DTY and it’s very strong – just does keep her toes down on the stick, just a little chest forward. 9.925

Thomas – UB – FLorida – maloney to clear hip to pak, strong – smooth hs on low – van leeuwen – hit – borderline cast hs on high – DLO, huge, stuck landing. Pretty one. 9.975

There were moments of borderline loose back or legs, so I’m fine with a 9.950 there. Not one of her 10s for me.

After 1: Florida 49.325, Georgia 49.275

Florida wasn’t weak on bars, but did gave away some landings and didn’t get the soft scoring we’d expect. Going to be verrrry interesting to see what happens when Georgia goes over there if a routine like Hundley’s was 9.825. Those early Georgia routines can’t also be low 9.8s then. Or will they? Nothing matters, so…

Scoring was much looser on vault, but Georgia did still need to be saved by Lukacs’s very strong DTY to keep things close after 1. Thomas saved Florida’s bars score in similar measure.

Rotation 2

Skaggs – VT – Florida – very floaty full, strong stick on landing, just chest forward to hold the stick. Very nice. 9.875, same score as Vega, just for notes.

Lukacs – UB – Georgia – good first hs – tkatchev, low but hit “very nice” – clear hip to pak, high, leg separation – cast 1/2 on low, a touch late – quite short final cast hs – DLO, shuffle back. Pretty solid for her.

Alexander – VT – Florida – didn’t quite stick this week, nearly the same thing with a slide back. Goes 9.850.

What happens when you put a judge from Michigan and a judge from Georgia on the same bars panel? JUDGING DELAYS.

Hattaway – UB – UGA – shorter first hs – giant full (late) to gienger with legs – legs apart on catching bail as well – short cast hs on high – DLO, a bit flung out with a hop back. A hit. 9.675. These are more realistic scores for this Georgia rotation.

Baumann – VT – Florida – hits her 1.5 but eeeefff of a lock legged landing – a shuffle on landing and some legs on the block. 9.825

Vega – UB – UGA – toe on to toe shoot, hit – short cast hs on high – gienger hit with legs – pak, some legs as well – late on cast 1/2 on low and so many cast deduction traps throughout – FTDT, nice part, small step back. 9.775 still pretty high.

Schoenherr – VT – Florida – strong Y1/5 for her, small hop forward – just a bit of knees. Good. 9.900

Roberts – UB – UGA – missed first hs – maloney to bail is very nice, good positions and legs together – late on cast on high – sticks landing on DLO, some piking. 9.850

Thomas – VT – Florida – one of her best Y1/5 landings ever – nearly sold the stick going up onto her toes and sliding a bit. Good. 9.950

De Jong – UB – UGA – good first hs – toe on to Ray, catches rather close with bent elbows – strong bail position – shortish final cast – DLO is rough, very floaty but lands short, nearly a knee-down and a large lunge forward. 9.725

Richards – VT – Florida – a lower Y1/5 than Thomas had, a shortish landing with a step back. 9.875

Okaley – UB – UGA – short first hs – higgins to gorgeous piked jaeger – pak is hit, small leg break – great attention to hs on 1/2 turn on low – but the casts are not her best today – FTDT, and basically does the same thing as De Long, deep knee bend and a lunge. 9.825

Georgia escapes bars with a 48.900, and honestly it could have been worse since their best, go-to routines had dismount problems. The first few routines were, at least, evaluated a little more realistically.

Pretty successful vault rotation for Florida. Important for Thomas to show that landing control. Still not sold on the Baumann vault. Right now, that’s the one I’d take out if Reed comes back, rather than the full from Skaggs or Alexander.

Michigan goes 49.425 on beam, keeping alive the hopes for a 198 with a huge floor rotation. I mean, it would have to be 49.625 but…

Meanwhile, UNC got through bars and is therefore still in the hunt for another 196. Bigggg scores flying between Western and CMU.

Hawthorne – BB – UGA – bhs loso, small adjustment and some feet in the series – back leg on both switch and switch split jump, “or switch leap jump” per Bridget – check on her kickover – full turn, overturned with a check – fighting it – 1.5, hop forward. Lots of checks there. 9.700

De Jong – BB – UGA – full turn had nice style but then she checked on it – switch to split, slightly hesitant – aerial to beat jump, hit – impossible to tell positions with this camera angle – bhs loso, strong, good control – split jump 1/2 from side, chest lean and shortish on split position – side aerial to full, hop back. 9.825

SJS – FX – Florida – double arabian, niceeeee save on that landing with a quick step back to adjust to her short landing, could easily have sat that down – back 1.5 to front layout to immediate it’s-a-pose-not-a-lunge – double tuck, secure landing. 9.775. R Baumann – BB – UGA – John’s trying to make “close meet” happen but it’s not happening – side aerial to loso, good height, secure – beat to switch side, pretty toes – 1.5, small hop. Good. 9.900. One judge went 9.950 with a non-stuck.

Thomas – FX – Florida – DLO, strong strong landing, good control – front full to layout to sissone, lovely – split leap full to popa, good landing positions, clearly defined today – double pike, chest a little forward, a mostly controlled step.

Vega – BB – Georgia – switch to split ring jump, slight lean on landing – aerial to split jump with a check, arm wave correction – bhs loso, also just a slight bit uncertain – she’s minimizing it but fighting it this week as well – side aerial to full, stuck. Good finish. 9.900 is well high for one of her shakier sets.

Natalie Wojcik went 9.950 on floor for Michigan to bring them to 197.900, nearly matching the score from last week. It’s a whole new world. UNH went 195.100, which is not going to help the regionals project.

A Baumann – FX – Florida – double tuck, solid – “normally that is a double layout” never once – back 1.5 to front full, a bit steppy on landing today – switch 1/2 to popa, lovely extension – double pike, chest forward with a small bounce back. 9.900

Georgia got through that beam, but the score means that UGA would have to go 49.700 on floor just to make this meet count for NQS, let alone improve it in any real way.

This is not going to be one of Florida’s hugest scores, but it is still comfortably in line to remove that 196 road score they still need to remove.

Lovett – UB – Arkansas – large arch on first hs and has to recast and improvise a 1/2 turn – arches again and somehow pulls it back into her Ray – but then arches again after the Ray and couldn’t save her arch a third time. Amazing fight in the middle there but couldn’t fight a third time.

Johnson – VT – LSU – just does the full, and a large bounce back, still goes 9.825, which is pretty high for that landing – great in the air and easy for her of course.

Alabama and Kentucky have finished their rotation long ago, Alabama 49.300 on vault to Kentucky 49.200 on bars. Reallly impressive fulls in the middle of that Alabama vault lineup, and the judges were normal (i.e. non-cracky) on scoring those fulls.

Minnesota did have a fall from Lu on beam but were able to drop it to go 49.200.

Hambrick – UB – Arkansas – huge break to figure out Lovett – tight first hs – blind to piked jaeger to overshoot, hit, a bit conservative, close to bar, understandable – FTDT, hop back. Good.

Edney – VT – LSU – Y1/5 – collapses on the table just a bit this time – lunge forward on landing and a bit more knees.9.825

Not a full strength LSU vault lineup but they also did not have the landings today for 49.100

Patterson – VT – UK – a large lunge back on handspring pike 1/2

Hambrick – VT – Akrnasas – goes for the 1.5 and does get it to her feet but was really high on the table and came in short, lunge back and a deep landing.

Mahoney – UB – Alabama – toe on to bail, a bit of hip angle there – shortish cast hs on high – pretty tktchev toes – FTDT, small hop.

Edney – UB -= LSU back on this event – hits hindorff, a little piked shape – some handstand issues here, not her smoothest routine getting back in but a perfect stick on her DLO.

Korth – VT – Kentucky – sells the stick on her Y1/5 – great job a bit deep – nearly stuck – step salute

Elswick – VT – Arkansas – hits her Y1.5, step back but good

Doggette – UB – Alabmaa – tkatchev to pak, small leg breaks – good 1/2 turn on low – one shortish hs – DLO, a bitttt short with a ste-salute, tries to sell it.

Harrold – UB – LSU – hits zuchold – toe 1/2 to jaeger – late on grip change, double front, step forward.

So.

Alabama saves the rotation on bars with a 49.200, but Korth gets Kentucky to 49.200 on bars. Kentucky leads 98.400 to 98.300 after 2.

Bars judging was RILLL enthusiastic for LSU on bars for 49.525 for a medium-quality rotation. Arkansas’s 48.850 on vault is OK but doesn’t get out of the hole from bars. It’s LSU 98.625, Arkansas 97.275 after 2.

Helen Hu went 9.975 on beam for Missouri, but Minnesota moves ahead by .025 after 3.

Monfredi – FX – Kentucky – front through to double tuck, secure landing, some chest positions – switch side to popa to wolf full, good positions, a little out of control on landing – double pike, super deep with a lunge back OOB –

Dean – BB – LSU – side aerial to bhs, hit, small foot adjustment – switch to split jump 1/4, lack of split on the 1/4 – aerial to split jump is pretty solid – side aerial to full, hit. 9.850

Graber – BB – Alabama – candle mount – hit – side aerial with a pause before her beat jump – full turn, wobble – split jump 1/2 from side, some back leg – bhs loso is more solid – switch, little check before split jump, watch the SV here – gainer full, stuck. 9.825. Got away with it.

Patterson – FX – Kentucky – back 1.5 was really high, too high, got nothing into her front out of it, tucks it and lowand goes OOB –

Olsen – BB – Alabama – switch to split, hit – bhs loso series, secure, some feet but not bad – full turn, easy – aerial with a check and arm wave – bhs bhs double pike, nearly stuck it. Great finish. 9.875

Shaffer – FX – Arkansas – double pike, a tad deep but controls it – double tuck, small adjustment –

I love how the other commentators die about Shallon’s double pike on beam, while Sam is like, “This is as expected and a little easy tbh”

Shchennikova – BB – LSU – she’s in the lineup – Onodi hit, pretty – bhs loso, small check – switch to split jump 1/4, a bit slow but OK – beat – needs to de-elite her rhythm a little but the elements are there – bhs bhs gainer full, short with a step forward into her fake-stick salute. 9.825. In time, this will be her more impressive college event than bars, though reputation may give her higher scores on bars.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, pretty – bhs loso, perfect form, small check – switch to sheep, hit, appreciate that this is a real sheep jump even in NCAA – full turn with a little choreo check – 2/1, nearly holds the landing with an arm wave. 9.950 is toooo high, I mean I know she has great form but there were two checks and a landing adjustments

Hambrick was going fantastically on floor but came up a bit short on her final pass with a lunge forward

Edney – BB – LSU – aerial to sissone, some back leg – bhs loso, nearly imperceptible correction – switch to straddle 1/4, secure, usual position – kickover, step forward today – 1.5, hop forward. 9.875 high.

Ella Warren’s rudi to loso on floor continues to be a dream.

Lovett – FX – Arkansas – good DLO, controls the landing –

Burgess – BB – Alabama – crisp one-arm bhs to loso, good – cat leap to switch side, excellent extension – switch, well done – side aerial to full, step back. Nice. Probably her best beam. Strong.

Campbell – BB – LSU – bhs loso, choreos out of it but it’s a small deduction – aerial to sissone, gorgeous sissone – switch to switch 1/2, perfection – 2/1, rebounds a little. But a strong one. DD trying to trick the judges into giving it a 10.

OH GOD it almost worked. 9.975. No.

Carter – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, nice chest up but a little steppy working out of it – back 1.5 to front full, mostly controls the step out – double pike, small movement. 9.950 is rather high. LSU’s floor scores are going to be something.

Desch – BB – Alabama – cat leap to aerial with an arm wave – bhs – I wouldn’t give the combo – switch 1/2, another lean check – side somi, also keeps it on with a lean – switch to beat is hit. 1.5, hop forward.

Korth – FX – Kentucky – her usual full in, super solid landing, chest down – split leap full to popa, gets those elements around – rudi to loso, nice and high – double pike, bounce back, keeps it in bounds

Missouri edges Minnesota, 196.775 to 196.675.

Alabama goes 49.350 on beam so should have no problem going 197 with a normal floor, though that won’t have been the main goal.

Kentucky’s 49.100 on floor means UK falls back behind Alabama by .150 going to the final rotation.

No one have ever said the word jubilations faster than Dana Duckworth did right now.

Also I know she waved at the camera and said “ROLL TIDE” but it did sound like she waved at the camera and yelled “WE’LL DIE.”

Yamzon – BB – Arkansas – switch 1/2 attempt, like a switch side 1/4, so some position issue there – solid bhs loso series – kickover front, quite deep but works out of it into beat – stuck gainer full. 9.825 a high start.

Harrold – FX – LSU – front 2/1, mostly controls the step, some legs – double pike, secure landing, chest down – switch ring to switch 1/2, good positions as always, kind of awkward on landing – fabbb 1.5 to layout. 9.900 is also still a…high start.

Warren – BB – Kentucky – side aerial to bhs, very clean, solid – switch to straddle 1/4, holds it, small arm wave, mostly nothing – 1.5, small hop. 9.875

Klopfer – FX – Alabama – double tuck, secure landing, chest down – split leap full to popa, good finish – back 1.5 to layout, arches around the layout, a bit soft in position – double pike, hop to the side

Desiderio – FX – LSU – very secure landing on the DLO, nice – 1.5 to layout, not a huge layout but fine – switch ring to split leap full, well l short of position on split leap full – double tuck, just did control that step back and keep it in bounds. 9.900.

Patterson – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso, high, bend to the side correction – aerial to split jump, a little hesitation in between but that hasnt really been a thing today – switch to switch, gorgeous split positions – bhs 1.5, stuck.

Olsen – FX – Alabama – double double, forward with a hop today – switch through to split leap 1.5 to split jump 1/2 – front tuck through to double tuck, chest well up, kind of shuffled a little when she didn’t need to – 9.900. One of her highest floor scores for not one of her best routines –

Goodrich – FX – LSU – oh it’s backup day! I did think in preseason that she had a shot at seeing time on floor – double tuck, chest up, perfectly fine – 1.5 to layout, some form in there, crossed legs and slightly uncertain on landing – double back last pass, just does avoid putting her knee down but a very deep landing. 9.575

Korth – BB – Kentucky – one-arm bhs to loso, very strong – switch to loso, good switch horizontal position – 2/1, stuck. Excellent routine.

Dean – FX – LSU – double pike, holds the front foot down, some knees – back 1.5 to layout, exact same note – split leap full and split jump full had majjjor problems today, both risking no credit and very short of position – double tuck, secure. 9.875 asssassinated me.

Blanco – FX – Alabama – double pike, slide back – double tuck, the same – front full to layout, a bit of knees, form great on the rest, dance out – 9.950. No, two slides back on passes.

Auburn finishes with 196.700, a pretty big result for them.

Poland – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso, very solid, some foot form at the end – gainer tuck full, stuck.

Campbell – FX – LSU – 2.5, controls her step out fairly well – double pike, chest a bit forward but solid – perfect leaps – ooooof, mistimes her back 1.5 to front, sits it down, which means they’ll have to count Goodrich’s score.

Mahoney – FX – Alabama – second pass front full to front layout, secure, just a tad soft – double pike, little slide back –

Worley – BB – Kentucky – a leg-up check on her aerail – bhs loso series is secure, a little soft – kickover front with a check to the side – 1.5 dismount, step –

Edney – FX – LSU – double arabian, pretty solid, small slide back – back 1.5 to layout, dance out but fine – back leg in leap combo – double tuck, solid.

Edney goes 9.925. LSU finishes 197.125, which is not really what they were looking for. Arkansas goes 195.750, and…same. Not the meet these teams were hoping to get –

Desch – FX – Alabama – double pike, slide back – 1.5 to 1/2 to split jump to front tuck is solid – double tuck, well short with hop forward. Gets away with 9.800 in this insanity-scoring floor rotation.

Angeny – BB – Kentucky – three series is hit, small check at the end – aerial, fine, a little short but covered it – switch to beat, lovely – full turn, no trouble – side aerial to tuck full, short witha hop forward.

Graber – FX – Alabama – she’s back to do floor – she’s like, I want a piece of this scoring – full in, slide back – switch side through to wolf jump 1.5, does really well to get that wolf around with no question – front tuck through to double pike, large bounce back but keeps it in bounds.

She still goes 9.9 because nothing matters, so Alabama finishes on 197.200, fine but not amazing. Kentucky 196.650 which is about on track for them.

I know Florida did go 197.800, but today has felt really “when is the postseason again?”
