Among the first group of meets, Illinois/Kentucky is the ranked matchup, but keep an eye on what Northern Illinois gets up to as well. Currently, NIU is well back in 42nd, but another 196 this week would be enough to gain some ground and get into the regionals conversation. George Washington, as well, will be looking for a season-high 196 in the early action, though GW’s peak score is not as high as NIU’s. Both are currently well on the outside of regionals spots and need a huge result.

Gymnix is really leaning into this whole TWO SEPARATE opening ceremony performances thing. The Mag 7 during the Atlanta gala vibes are strong.

Mollie Korth Senior Night discussion in Kentucky.

Rotation 1

Warren – VT – Kentucky – bounce back on her full, a bit too large, but cleanly done in the air. 9.750

Biondi – UB – Illinois – jaeger, hit with feet – bail, hips pretty well extended there – some shorter hs – giant full solid position into double tuck, pretty short with a bound forward. 9.750

Angeny – VT – Kentucky – “great freshman” – she’s such a good freshman she’s a sophomore – lands chest down in her full with a stagger forward, so won’t be the score they’re looking for. 9.725

Borden – Ub – Illinois – lovely jaeger toes, hit connected to overshoot, some piking – blind with a leg break into 1.5 twist, staggered feet on stick. 9.775

Kwan – VT – Kentucky – getting there – a slide back on her full but some better chest up position and a smaller bounce than Warren.

Still in the first rotation touch warmup at Gymnix.

O’Donnell – Ub – Illinois – blind to jaeger, nice extended position – cast to bail, small hip angle in a few of these handstands – short final cast – giant full to double tuck, pretty toes pointed throughout this routine. 9.850

Nixon – VT – Kentucky – good pop on her full but too large on the bounce back. 9.850 wayyyy high.

Gymnix has started – Quinn Skrupa hits a strong double Arabian on floor. The US is on bars. The individuals rotating with them will go first. Some staggers on later landings for Skrupa but she stays on her feet.

Powe – UB – Illinois – falls on Jaeger, took it way too far out.

Patterson – VT – Kentucky – handspring pike 1/2, one of her best of the year, medium step back, chest up pretty well, control is improving. 9.850

Howell – UB – Illinois – piked jaeger, hit, not the highest but solid – pretty pak position – good cast hs on high – giant full to double tuck, small pop back. 9.850

Gymnix – Sidney Stevens, Australia, with hands down on a double pike bars dismount.

Korth – VT – Kentucky – can’t stick her 1.5 on senior night, actually a pretty large bounce forward by her standards. 9.800

Takekawa – UB – Illinois – blind to piked jaeger, some knees but hit – bail, slightly loose back but hit – final cast was fine – DLO, pikes it in both saltos but finds the stick.

Gymnix – Vansteenkiste hits bars – some fairly large leg breaks on her shaposh elements, hits double pike dismount with lunge back. Have to switch gears to remember that leg separations on your Shaposh elements matter in elite. Her countrywomen Brassart showed a new DTY.

Illinois saved the rotation to go 49.100 to Kentucky’s 49.075

Gymnix – Rose Woo with a very secure landing on a 3/1 on floor (legs Mustafina), double pike is deep and a bit ragged with a step – hits wolf turn double, no trouble on dance elements positions – front full, simple but fine. Mia St Pierre fell on a huge layout 2 feet, lots of amplitude on her double back dismount as well.

Laurie Dennomee with a very high DLO and double pike, good toes pointed in the double pike as well – these switch elements are more of a struggle – just a front tuck through to back lay final pass, which was stuck but a placeholder.

Second half of rotation 1 athletes doing their touch warmups now.

Rotation 2 – Illinois/Kentucky

Simons – VT – Illinois – chest down on her full today, causes a little stagger forward

Angeny – Ub – Kentucky – short first hs – jaeger to overshoot, hit with some foot form – not quite these on the casts today – bounce back DLO.

Scott – VT – Illinois – big distance on her full, bounce back, small piking

Lippeatt starting for the US on bars sat Gymnix – van leeuwen, solid – weiler 1/2 to ricna to pak, loses her legs completely and has to basically tuck-straddle the pack – keeps it going but also has to add an extra swing on the high bar toward the end, so it kind of got away from her there.

Alaina Kwan has a fall in the second spot for Kentucky on bars.

Takekawa – VT – Illinois – also a pretty large bounce back on her full

Gymnix – Emily Lee – UB – USA – good first hs – toe full a little crooked but continues through it – connected to maloney and tkatchev – pak is pretty – regular-type shaposh, hit – front giant full with some form – DLO, step back. Not her cleanest but fine.

Annnnnd we have a fall now for Cally Nixon for Kentucky on her Shap. Counting a fall on bars, so this isn’t going to be the senior night score they wanted.

Pretty full from Meeks for Illinois, smaller hop, good layout.

Gymnix: Skinner – UB – maloney to tkatchev, solid with feet form – ricna to pak, also fully flexed feet but this is about getting the difficulty out there – van leeuwen, same crazy legs – giant full to FTDT, stuck. It’s Skinner elite bars. It’s just about getting the difficulty out there with a hit. Which she did. E score in the 6s. I mean…yeah.

Gymnix: Torrez – USA – UB – Maloney to huge tkatchev to pak, bits of legs – van leeuwen, somall leg break, hit – piked jaeger, good – DLO, stuck landing. Niccceee.

Luksik and Warren came through with very clean hits on bars when absolutely necessary.

Howell with the anchor vault for Illinois, another large bounce back on her full.

Korth – UB – Kentucky – good frist hs – blind to piked jaeger, pretty – bail, crisp position – a couple borderline handstands but otherwise excellent – hits DLO 1/1 comfortably.

Just 48.725 on vault for Illinois with all those full bounces, which ends up being the same score that Kentucky got for counting a fall on bars, a rotation saved by the final three routines.

After 2: Illinois 97.825, Kentucky 97.800

Also want to note NIU is on pretty close to 196 pace after two events, which is what they’re looking for in the regionals chase.

Torrez went 13.333 on bars for the US, their highest score, though I would have liked to have seen more separation between her and Lee there. Torrez was noticeably cleaner.

Kentucky needed something better than a 196.6 for this score to count, which means they’ll have to do better than 49.400 on the remaining events. Time to pray to the gods of senior night.

Rotation 3 – Illinois/Kentucky

Warren – BB – Kentucky – side aerial to bhs, smoothly done – switch with a pause, no combination – cat leap to switch side, small adjustment there, and again on a full turn – 1.5, small hop forward. 9.775

Townes – FX – Illinois – front full to front full, a bit of lack of control there but nice attention to position in those twisting elements – very high split leap 1.5 – rudi to straddle, nicely done.

The commentator on the Kentucky meet has really “you stupid assholes watching this competition obviously are stupid and WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THIS” tone. Commentary note: people don’t love being told that they don’t understand things.

Patterson – BB – Kentucky – nice toe point in bhs loso series – small check on choreography – aerial to split jump, hit – switch to switch – 1.5 stuck ish with legs apart and a quick salute

Noonan – FX – Illinois – hits front 2/1 with some knees – front lay to rudi with a small hop to the side, good position on front lay – switch ring to a cat leap 1.5, which was a little crazy – back 1.5 to layout.

YOU GUYS SKILLS ARE NAMED AFTER GYMNASTS “AND A LOT OF THEM ARE FORRREEEEIGGGGNNNN.” How dare they.

Korth – BB – Kentucky – one arm bhs to loso, small adjustment to the side – switch to loso to beat, fairly quickly connected – 2/1 slide back. 9.825

LINEUP NEWS: No Kennedi Edney for LSU tonight

Scott – FX – Illinois – front 2/1, slide out – neither commentator has realized that this is definitely not Nicole Biondi (or “Bee-on-deeeeee”)- clean layout out of her second pass – goooorgeous switch ring to split leap full – to die for – rudi, secure landing. Nice.

Poland – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso, large break with a leg-up check, keeps it on – aerial, secure – very nice rise on her straddle 1/4 – gainer tuck full, stuck. Good finish.

Howell – FX – Illinois – front tuck through to double tuck, a bit deep with a slide back – double pike, very secure landing

Worley – BB – Kentucky – cat leap to switch side, tight position – aerial to bhs loso, very secure – 1.5, stuck landing. Very solid work. 9.925

US team getting started on beam at Gymnix with Lippeatt – bhs bhs layout attempt, pretty much a whip back with a leg break – so probably not credit – side aerial to switch to straddle, straddle a bit low – adjustment on split jump 1/2 from side – hits a straight jump full from side – bhs bhs double pike, bounce back. I have some questions about the composition of this routine, but she stayed on.

Angeny – BB – Kentucky – small lean on bhs loso loso series but minimizes it well – aerial, just slightly short, also covers comfortably – switch to beat, solid – side aerial to tuck full, stuck.

9.950 with a 10 from one judge with a series adjustment.

Gymnix – Skinner – BB – candle mount – bhs to a huge tuck full, keeps it on with aleg slightly up – side aerial to jumps, hit – switch to switch 1/2, well off to the side and falls – straddle 1/2 from side, hit – L turn with a check so probably no connection into full turn – double tuck dismount comfortable, hop to the side.

LSU/Arkansas quad at TWU is supposed to have started but the stream is not live yet.

Gymnix – Torrez – BB – barani, leg up check – back full and falls – Martha would be crossing some names off a list after these first two rotations – switch to switch 1/2, pretty solid extension on that switch 1/2 – secure on her side position jumps – double pike, lunge back

Kentucky moves ahead of Illinois with the third rotation, 147.075 to 146.900

Gymnix – Emily Lee – BB – full turn, smooth – side aerial to loso loso and falls – so Lippeatt ends up being the only one who hit – switch to switch 1/2, rather short on switch 1/2 with an arm wave – bh s bhs layout 2 feet, nice height on that one but a bouncy wobble to keep it on – split jump 1/2 from side was good – side somi, solid – several leg-up checks though – bhs bhs double pike, hop back

LSU posted this link for the TWU video, which is different than the one I have at the tip, but also hasn’t started.

Folino is finishing up the second rotation at Gymnix for Australia on floor – hits a good DLO but is short on her full in with a large lunge forward –

Illinois starts beam with a fall from Simons on a side aerial.

Monfredi – FX – UK – front tuck through to a full shot of a cameraman’s butt, a little ragged, could use more crispness of shape – double pike, only small foot adjustment –

Noonan – BB – Illinois – bhs loso, step back to keep it together – switch to gainer loso, check – beat to stag ring – gainer full, stuck

DeGuzman – BB – Kentucky – she’s real? – front 2/1, hit, some crossed legs – switch ring to split leap full, a little low to the floor but hits the positions – back 1.5 to layout, very clean layout – switch ring 1/2 is a bit crazy as they all are – good.

Maggie Nichols in the AA for senior night of course.

Scott – BB – Illinois – kickover front with a little check into bhs, so a combo issue there – switch to stag ring, check – gainer full, stuck. Nice finish. 9.825

Poland – FX – Kentucky – front tuck through to 1/2, secure landing – rudi with a large landing issue, big lunge and a possible OOB

BREAKING NEWS. I actually have access to Oklahoma/Michigan randomly and I’m not asking questions. Obviously shifting to that.

Before the routines begin, we have Ella Warren up on floor for Kentucky with her beautiful rudi to loso that was just as beautiful as usual this week. Both Illinois and Kentucky building to big scores from their anchors so far.

Takekawa – BB – Illinois – side aerial to bhs, hit smoothly, flexed feet on side aerial – switch to gainer loso, strong – bhs gainer full, stuck. Good.

9.975 is way high though. A good routine but there are some form things.

Worley – FX – kentucky – hits full in solidly – switch ring to switch side, solid positions – front full to layout, a tad soft in position – double pike, comfortable landing.

OU/Michigan starting

Rotation 1

Truatman – VT – OU – small hop forward on her 1.5 this week – some knees, just a bit deep with that hop. 9.925

Heiskell – UB – Michigan – blind to jaeger nice toes – pak, legs right together – maybe one borderline hs – giant full to double tuck, short landing with week with a hop. 9.825

Stern – VT – OU – clean position on her 1.5 in the air with a medium-sized hop forward. 9.875

Mariani – UB – Michigan – clear hip to tkatchev, good height, some feet – bail, a bit short – solid final cast hs – DLO, nearly stuck, small movement. Good. 9.825

Mollie Korth hit her final home floor routine. A little out of control on her full in landing but otherwise nailed.

Degouveia – VT – OU – beautiful 1.5, one of her better landings on the year, but she was a touch short with a small slide back. 9.950 with no stick.

Brenner – UB – Michigan – blind to jaeger, higggh into overshoot, small leg break in her overshoot – DLO, bounce back. 9.825

Webb – VT – OU – huge amplitude on her 1.5 – also a small hop forward. 9.925

Brooks – UB – Michigan – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, nicely done – toe on a little loose – bail, strong crisp position – short on final cast hs – DLO 1/1 and finishes very early, step forward. 9.850

Nichols – VT – OU – Y1.5 – stuck it – obviously going to be a 10 given the scores in this rotation, and this was one of her very best ones ever. I don’t have a problem with a 10 on this one.

10.000

Wilson – Ub – she hits her piked jaeger – bail, solid – good cast hs on high – DLO, clean position, small hop back

Schoepfer – VT – OU – tries to sell a stick on her tucked 1.5 but steps into her salute, and some flexed feet. 9.850

Wojcik falls on her huge Deltchev this week.

49.675 on vault for Oklahoma. An excellent rotation of Y1.5s but we’re also only judging landing control here and not differentiating for extension or dynamics, because these 1.5s are at different levels in that regard.

Smith with a small hop back on a full in the exhibition position.

The final at Kentucky is 196.450 for UK, 196.250 for Illinois, a useful result for Illinois, not so much for Kentucky.

LSU 49.200 on bars in the first rotation.

Michigan went 49.150 with a rotation of 9.8s on bars.

Gymnix – Emily Lee second up for the US on floor – popa is nice – huge lift on her double double, chest down with a lunge – back 2.5 to front full, right to the corner with a little shuffle – double pike, small slide – heel drop on her double L attempt – double tuck, bounce back

Gymnix – Faith Torrez – FX – huge DLO 1/1 first pass, bounces back and OOB – DLO second pass, also with a bounce but smaller and farther away from the corner – front tuck through to double tuck, another rather significant bounce – double back, shuffle

Gymnix – Skinner – FX – split leap 1.5, rushed that plit just a little – Moors opening pass, steps OOB – double double, very solid landing, nearly balance checked int eh corner before it because she was right to the edge – full-in, also well controlled landing – wolf double a little crazy but normal – front tuck through to 2.5 with a side lunge.

Rotation 2

Trautman started with a clean bars routine and a stuck DLO. Nice. 9.900

Koulos – VT – Michigan – bounce back on her full, good pop, small piking in the air

Thomas – UB – OU – a bit short on first hs – toe 1/2 to jaeger, hit – better next cast – bail, a touch crooked on catch – vertical positions improving in the second 1/2 – DLO, step to the side. 9.875 a bit high.

Brenner – VT – Michigan – HUGE 1.5 – nails the landing, stuck, just a bit of feet, not the most distance, but we’ll see about scoring consistency with that one. 9.975. Well, at least it’s consistent with a crack from Oklahoma.

Webb – UB – OU – lovely pak – van leeuwen, legs together well – toe 1/2 with small hesitation and slight leg break – double front 1/2 out, sticks it. 9.925

Brooks – VT – Michigan – nearrrrrllly sticks her 1.5, can’t quite hold it for long enough with a little step. 9.925.

Degouveia – UB – OU – piked jaeger, nice and high – good hs – toe on to pak, legs right together – rushes through cast 1/2 on low – FTDT, chest down with a step forward. 9.875

Wojcik – VT – Michigan – hahaha kinnnnnddd of finds the stick on her Y1.5, sits a little deep in the landing and then slides into salute, but her best landing control on the season so far. 9.875. Inconsistent there.

Smith – Ub – OU – Ricna to pak, hit, good amplitude on pak – lots of loose back on cast 1/2 on low bar – DLO, bit short with a hop. 9.900 is high.

Wilson lands short on her Y1.5 for Michigan with a lunge back

Nichols – UB – OU – Ray to pak to toe on solid, van leeuwen, a little legs – DLO, a little off balance on the stick but holds it.

9.950 for Nichols. It definitely wasn’t one of her 10s, but you thought it might go there.

Michigan will take that 49.400 on vault. Most important was some of the landing progress on the 1.5s, like Wojcik’s. Oklahoma went 49.550 on bars, not enough separation between the ones that were fine-not-your-best and the truly excellent routines. But another clean rotation.

Intros still going at Stanford/Utah.

Rotation 3

Trautman – BB – OU – bhs loso, securely landed – cat leap to switch side, comfortable position – kickover front, holds it – 1.5, stuck landing. Very solid. 9.875

Koulos was short on a front lay to front full with a stumble backward. Odd mistake. Double pike bounce back.

Utah has started – Soloski chest well down on her opening full with a lunge forward. 9.650

Dunn – BB – OU – bhs bhs loso, right on – split jump to split 1/2, initial split jump had some back leg shortness – gainer full, stuck. 9.850

Nice open for Resintadtler on vault for Utah but again lands forward with a hop. 9.825.

Cammy Hall sticks her Y1.5 for Utah, legs on block

Brooks – FX – Michigan – very well controlled full in landing, super strong pass – 1.5 to layout, solid layout positions, a little flat in amplitude – double pike, short with a stagger.

Faith Torrez sat her DTY at Gymnix.

Woodard – BB – OU – aerial to bhs series, good, secure – kickover to beat jump, prettttyyyy – switch to split jump, excellent positions – side aerial to full, stuck with a lean forward, pretty. 9.875

A hit DTY from Emily Lee at Gymnix, step forward.

Skinner finishes the day for the US at Gymnix with her vault – DTY, lunge back, some knees, fine, but not a Skinner-Utah-landing. Like, if she were going in this Utah rotation right now, Hall and Burch probably score higher. And Tessen, who just stuck her 1.5.

Tessen gets a 10. She doesn’t really have the dynamics to be 10 eligible here, even though it was a great stick. Doing your very best is not the same as a 10.000.

Smith – BB – OU – bhs loso series with a large check, bend at the side wobble – aerial to straddle jump, pretty – beat to straddle 1/2 to Korbut, literally perfect – bhs gainer full, leans to hold the stick. 9.725

Wojcik – FX – Michigan – full in, solid landing – split full to wolf full, solidly around – front 2/1 to front pike, smoothly done, just a bit steppy – rudi to straddle, good control, not her highest straddle.

Kelly trying to say Shchennikova was a journey.

Webb – BB – OU – bhs loso, smoothly landed – aerial, checks before her split jump – switch to split leap, hit – side aerial to full, stuck, and then does the Oklahoma squat to tell you that she stuck it. She stuck it normally but then was like, “Oh no we do this squat thing.”

Wilson – FX – Michigan – other full in, just a little bit chest forward, solid – front lay to front full, very well extended – switch side to popa, huge amplitude there – double tuck, nailed it.

Nichols – BB – OU – kickover to korbut, nice – full turn, smooth – switch to split, good switch, some back foot on the split jump – “Look at that oversplit…*whispes* on the first one” – LOL Kelly – aerial, solid – sticks 1.5. Good. 9.950

Funk – FX – Michigan – double pike, clean position, controlled landing – front full to layout, a little boundy – switch side to popa, solid extension – double tuck, solidly landed, just a bit chest down.

O’Keefe leads off bars for Utah, lunge forward on double arabian.

Stanford on vault, Cole and Bryant both with big bounces back on their fulls.

Oklahoma goes 49.400 on beam. I thought that rotation was both pretty and reasonably evaluated. That was a 49.400 that warranted a 49.400.

Michigan actually gains some ground with a 49.450 on floor. That floor rotation is going to give Oklahoma so many 10s.

Dula came back into the bars lineup for Utah with a solid 9.850. Really nice stick for Isa on her DLO. She was short on her first hs but the second half was excellent. 9.900.

LSU is hanging around 197 pace after three events.

Ending up the second rotation in Utah with Tessen on bars – good piked jaeger, large arch on her bail but pulls it back – FTDT, short landing with a step forward.

Mama Nichols wearing a shirt that says “I’M SO EXTRA” is all I needed.

Farley leads off beam for Michigan – some back leg on splits, lovely 1.5 turn – side aerial to split, solid – gainer pike. 9.900. Whoa did not expect that after the Oklahoma scores were pretty normal.

Draper – FX – OU – double pike, good efficient shape, bounce – front full front full, some knees, controls the step – switch side to popa, very high, good – back 1/2 to rudi, a little hop. 9.875 high.

O’Hara – BB – Michigan – side aerial to bhs and riggght off the beam – nothing hit the beam on that back handspring.

LSU finishes with 197.000 exactly. Arkansas does get through without coutning a fall on bars this week for a 196.

Degouveia – FX – OU – front lay to front 2/1, good control – front lay to front full, same – just a bit of legs – switch 1/2 to a pretty popa – back 1.5 to front full – her best landing control of the season. 9.925

Brooks – BB – Michigan – bhs loso loso, awesome, so high – switch to switch, strong – kickover, perfect – double tuck, hop back. The rest was perfect. 9.900

LaPinta – FX – OU – hits her 3/1 under control, just a little under, some crossed legs – front full to layout – split leap full to split jump full was solid – double tuck really struggled with timing there, cowboys it and then ends up overdoing it with a large stumble back. 9.700

Funk – BB – Michigan – bhs loso series, secure – switch side 1/4, nails it – beat to straddle 3/4, solid as well – side aerial to full, stuck. Another excellent ones.

Nichols – FX – OU – 1. 5 to front loso to split leap 1.5, just does get that around, great positions – double pike, solid landing – switch ring to split leap full, strong – very good. 9.950.

O’Keefe hit a solid beam for Utah and went 9.975.

Wojcik – BB – Michigan – aerial to beat, lovely – switch to split, excellent extension – bhs bhs loso, right on – 1.5, hop forward. Another pretty one.

Webb – FX – OU – front 2/1, nice height – back 1.5 to front full, some knee position – feet on her dance elements – rudi, small slide back.

Heiskell – BB – Michigan – cat leap to side aerial, smoothly landed – switch to straddle 1/4, kind of tight in straddle position – bhs loso – 1.5, hop forward. Got trhough the rotation and it will be a good meet score.

Smith – FX – OU – double tuck, good chest up, a bit steppy – 1.5 to front lay, solidly done – switch side to wolf jump full, easy peasy – double pike, lunge back OOB.

Michigan will finish with a very useful 197.425. Oklahoma goes 198.100, just another casual 198.

Back to Utah town, Bryant finishes floor by nailing her double tuck.

Utah already has good beam scores, finishing with Paulson. Strong series landing – switch to split jump, back leg on switch – side aerial to a stuck full.

Utah ends up 49.550 on beam.

Brunette had some landing issues, but they won’t need that score, as they already have a big 49.375 there. This is going to be a huge score for Stanford if they can get through beam.

Meanwhile Washington has a fall on bars from Books in the third spot. Oregon State getting the usual 9.7s in the first half of the vault lineup.

Thompson – UB – Washington – blind to jaeger, hit, good height, some form – arches a handstand on high bar, pulls it back – FTDT, good stick there. 9.825

L Dagen – VT – OSU – just the full from her but it’s a good one, small slide back. 9.875

Roberson – UB – Washington – short initial handstand – good piked jaeger to overshoot, crisp form – DLO, small slide

M Dagen hits her Y 1.5, good block, but a pretty large bounce forward

Copiak – UB – Washington – piked jaerg to overshoot is good, nice straight position – small arch on cast hs on high – DLO, stuck. Strong.

The Dagens get Oregon State to an important 49.000 on vault. Copiak’s 9.900 gets Washington to 49.200 on bars.

Anyone else think that Utah’s promos this year, with the fake tans in the snow, makes it look like they’re in blackface? Just me? OK.

Utah’s up on floor in the final rotation. Isa in the second position – double tuck, small slide, good – back 1.5 to layout, mostly solid, I’ll call it a dance out – switch side to popa – double pike short with a lunge forward, sadly no improvised split this time. 9.850 is really high for that last pass.

Hoang – BB – Stanford – long pause before bhs loso series but it’s good – aerial with a check, pulls it back – pike jump to double stag, another check, approve of the height of that pike jump position – 1.5, stuck.

Hoffa on vault for Washington leading off with her full, her legs were tooooo far apart this time and you thought for a second she was going to go into a straddle split, but she lunged back a couple times instead.

Tessen had a control issue on her 1.5 to layout on floor.

Copiak follows Hoffa up with a stick on her full.

Lawson hits her Arabian this week, a little deep but controls it.

Lowery – UB – Oregon St – toe on to maloney to pak, some legs but solid – late on 1/2 turn on low – good final hs – flings out her DLO with a bounce, shuffle forward on landing.

Randall on floor for Utah, secure landings on her double tuck and double pike, has to whip around her 1.5 to layout.

Navarro – BB – Stanford – bhs bhs loso, looked tight, hits it but with a check to the side – full turn, a lean – 1.5 is really deep with a significant bounce back. But it’s a fifth hit on beam.

O’Keefe – FX – Utah – double pike with a large bounce back and OOB – the camera man was just adjusting his camera I think but it looked for a second like he was raising his hand to signal OOB and that was going to be my favorite.

Really strong stick on a full from Thompson for Washington, nice layout shape, chest a bit forward with the Huskie Squat.

And she got a perfect 9.950 for it. Lesson of the season, you can do a massive squat on your landing with legs in different counties and no one cares anymore.

Bryant – bb – Stanford – hits her loso series- awesome switch split jump – front tuck, huge – bhs bhs double tuck, nearly held the stick, not quite long enough to count – but Aleeza Yu was so excited she almost punched her in the face

Washington hit her round off 1/2 on front tuck this week with a hop forward

So O’Keefe got 9.825 for that lung eback OOB……

Ah 9.725. That makes more sense.

Reinstadtler – FX – Utah – 1.5 to layout, a bit soft and a slide – switch to split leap 1.5, good split positions, a hair under on landing – double pike, a large bounce back, does very keep to keep it in bounds, but what should be two lower scores to end this rotation.

She still gets 9.825, so it’s a very high 197.750 final score for Utah. Stanford’s 196.725 will be even more helpful for them and their ranking.

Washington at 98.400, Oregon State at 98.025 after two. I’m going to call it there on the live blog, but see you early tomorrow for the American Cup women’s session.

  1. Checking in from OU V Michigan. Exciting to watch my first live meet.

  2. Kennedi edney out for lsu tonight and kiya still not fully back. lsu’s lineups just seem to get scarier. I hope they can pull it together but those lineups this late in the season don’t seem like this team is in a great place health wise

    1. LSU trying to rest and get everyone healthy for post season in a few weeks.

  3. Damn Nastia’s ready to mentor some tributes at this year’s Hunger Games.

  4. Is the TWU video link working for anyone? Any tips to making it work? Thanks.

  5. I can’t get it to work either. 🙁 And my TV provider doesn’t get NBCSN so I can’t watch Pinksplosion either even though I have a sports supplement *angry face* All this good gymnastics and I can’t see it, sigh.

  6. is anyone else having issues with foxsports go? the message I get when I log in says “The selected program is no longer available”

  7. LSU just tweeted 11 minutes ago that they would be starting shortly…

  8. Ugh…I wish that the @OK gymnastics meet was on national tv.

How are we supposed to make fun of the live Oklahoma overscoring if we can’t watch? 😉

  9. Oh Tim, you DEFINITELY almost just mixed up Andrea Li and Gabby Perea.

    1. hahahah I noticed that too. “And that coach just happens to be…….” not her dad.

  10. 9.95 for Maggie Nichols’ bars on Senior Night?

    What happened to “Guaranteed 40”?

    1. Reasonable judging happened!!! And also yay Maggie for the top notch vault.

  11. I don’t watch a lot of JO but…is it just me or are the beam scores at Nastia Pinksplosion incredibly generous?

  12. The judging at Nastia Cup — at least the last rotation — always seems kind of results-oriented. Like…there is an athlete whose narrative gets telegraphed and they seem to get the score they need right at the end. Last year it was Doggette (she’s been to 100 Nastia Cups and never won!) and this year it’s Bryant (no one’s won twice!) I remember thinking Dogette’s final rotation score seemed way too high last year and this time around I thought there were some better bars routines than Bryant’s (presumptive) title-clinching first place set.

  13. Spencer on GymCastic: I’m not gonna liveblog Gymnix my plate is too full.

Also Spencer: Anyways, here’s what’s happening at Gymnix while Kentucky gets its shit together

  14. Let’s not forget W’s Thompson also swung both arms in a full circle to get her balance after landing that vault. Perfect? “Perfect”.

      1. I just watched the clip and I saw her swing her arms. It’s pretty clear.

  15. I strongly disliked the blackface comment, Spencer.

Nice attempt to make something out of nothing. It looks like Alexia Burch forgot to blend her makeup into her hairline.

    Really poor taste in commenting.

    1. I agree. This was done in poor taste.

A dialogue on race is incredibly important, but comments like this are intended to be snide and bratty (Spencer’s MO), not productive.

  16. Pretty clear which team Spencer likes least in all of NCAA gymnastics.

I’m not sure if I’m more offended on behalf of the red rocks or the racial minorities you mock by exploiting a racist trope to try to generate humor and clicks on a gymnastics blog. It’s shameful to be honest.

    1. And let me be clear, I AM a Utah fan, but that comment crossed a line, regardless

  17. “Anyone else think that Utah’s promos this year, with the fake tans in the snow, makes it look like they’re in blackface? Just me? OK.”

Not only is this an alarmingly bad take, it’s shocking how casually you can toss out an accusation of this magnitude. You crossed a line here, Spencer. You lost my respect.

  18. Was the blackface comment supposed to be funny or something? Definitely a stupid thing to say. Also, their promo videos are beautiful.

  19. I’ve always suspected that Spencer was not a Utah fan. It’s obvious in many of his comments. His mini spite pushes the general dislike of the Red Rocks. I was at the Stanford meet last night and the fans were so supportive of the Cardinals. Kayla actually got a standing ovation from most of the crowd. Compare and contrast that reaction to the zero applause at Pauley a couple of weeks prior. Utah takes enough heat without the perpetuation of a top gym-blogger. This is the second racial slam this year against Utah. So wrong and the promo is amazing

  20. Just an FYI everyone, Spencer hasn’t read comments on his blog in 2 years. Call him out on Twitter. Or bring it to @gymcastic’s attention on social media.

I was completely shocked by his comment. Totally NOT okay. Particularly in today’s climate. This should be offensive to every fan of this blog. I know he thinks it’s a joke but blackface is not something to joke about.

  21. You can contact him on his website. He really should apologize. He crossed the line.
