In NCAA news, we’ve already had a bit of a 10-a-thon, with Trinity Thomas getting one on floor, Rachel Gowey getting one on beam, and Ona Loper getting one on vault. To go with Maggie Nichols’ vault from yesterday. It’s that time of year…

DIII west regionals are also underway, with the favorites Whitewater, La Crosse, and Oshkosh in control of the three qualification spots after 2 events.

Given what other teams have done so far this week, Missouri currently sits in 18th and Nebraska in 20th in the in-progress rankings, reinforcing that they need some good scores right now to elevate those positions into the seeded territory. Both teams also have 195s to drop, so the chance to move up is strong. If they hit.

Our broadcast started late but it looks like a hit 1.5 from Verceles Carr for Nebraska. 9.925 is a lot. But nice vault.

Sheremeta – UB – Missouri – blind to jaeger, high, solid – clear hip to bail, some legs apart – blind to 1.5 dismoutn, stuck. Nice. 9.750

Dujakovich – VT – Nebraska – short on her 1.5 with a bounce back but not bad overall. Good pop. 9.775

Patrick – Ub – Missouri – blind to jaeger, caught close but hit – bail, loose back, legs together – good cast – DLO, stuck. Nice finish. 9.725

Houchin – VT – Nebraska – small hop forward on her Y1.5, otherwise it was totally out of frame so just going to assume it was perfect

Porter – UB – Missouri – good first hs – blind to jaeger, good height – hit handstand – toe one to bail, leg break there and a bit short of vertical – double front, finishes early, good stick. Strong. 9.850

Curtis – VT – Nebraska – a hit full, bounce back, some piking.

That’s 49.300 for Nebraska on vault, a strong rotation, three really solid 1.5s and close to that from Dujakovich as well

Hu – Ub – Missouri – huge Church to pak, awesome – van leeuwen, small leg break – toe full to immediate double tuck, stuck. Great. Just a bit late on the toe full. 9.900. That would have gotten 10s some places.

Schreiber – VT – Missouri – good stick on her full, very solid, some knees. 9.850

Thaler – UB – Nebraska – good first hs on low – maloney, legs together to pak, small leg break – a bit late on cast 1/2 on low – short handstand on high, can’t get around on her giant full and hops off. She hasn’t had quite the season on bars I expected from her. Finishes double tuck witha a hop. Piringer is going to have to count now. 8.875

Gottula – VT – Missouri – another excellent full, huge pop and a stuck landing, a bigger vault than Schreiber’s, also some direction though. 9.900

Colombo – UB – Nebraska – good first hs – higgins to piked jaeger, strong, just some feet – pak, a tad close but legs togehter – good handstand on high – front giant 1/2 to double tuck, stuck. Nicely done. 9.825

Hu – VT – Missouri – a third stick on a full in a row, clean position in the air – 9.875

Verceles Carr – UB – Nebraska – a bit short on first hs – blind to piked jaeger to overshoot, good jaeger, leg break on overshoot – some short hs positions – giant full to double tuck, small movement. 9.750

Brandt – VT – Missouri – fourth stick in a row – good handspring pike 1/2, just some chest position on landing and whatnot. 9.900

De Jesus – UB – Nebraska – big Ray to overshoot, good amplitude and leg position – solid handstand on high – flighty DLO with a hop. 9.775

Porter – VT – Missouri – and she sits her 1.5. Well I guess the stick streak is over.

Houchin – UB – Nebraska – giant full to tkatchev, lovely toes – bail, good vertical and legs together – strong handstand on high – DLO, stuck landing. Awesome. Very pretty routine. 9.900

McCrary – VT – Missouri – holds the stick on her Y1.5 – gets a little deep in a sit to hold the stick, but they stuck five of six vaults in that rotation. 9.800

Piringer – UB – Nebraska – toe on to maloney, legs – to bail, small leg break and some feet – solid handstand on high – giant full to double tuck, tries to hold the stick with a lean, ends up hopping. Improvement. The form will get her score, but getting there. 9.775 is big for her

(And oddly high for this rotation, which has been evaluated normally. Overall, credit to these bars judges for resisting the peer pressure of overscoring.)

Meanwhile, Georgia and Alabama has started, Lukacs with a bounce back on her DLO on bars. 9.775

Desch – VT – Alabama – near stick on her full, small slide back, a little chest position, good shape in the air. 9.875 a bit much.

Hattaway – UB – Georgia – muscles up first hs – giant full to gienger, some crazy legs – bail, more crazy legs, head was wayyy out but saved it – DLO, flung it out but held onto the stick. 9.800 dear me. Georgia’s like “BACK TO SEC CRACK THANK YOU.”

Mahoney – VT – Alabama – big and laid out full but a bigger bounce back this week. 9.825

Vega – UB – Georgia – toe on to toe shoot – short cast on high gienger, good legs together – pak, small leg break – late cast 1/2 on low – cast on high was better – FTDT, chest down with a hop forward but better than some for her. 9.800

Blanco – VT – Alabama – similar to Mahoney, pretty straight full with a fairly significant bounce back. 9.825

Roberts – UB – Georgia – good first hs – toe on to maloney, legs right together, small hesitation in bail handstand but good vertical – bit of loose back on hs on high bar – good stick on DLO. A couple things, nice, should be three tenths higher than the people who just went 9.800. 9.850. No sufficient separation.

Olsen – VT – Alabamam – small slide back on her DTY, good, legs, not the highest, but solid distance, chest up. 9.900

De Jong – UB – Georgia – toe on to Ray and can’t catch, looked like she was coming in a little close and caught her wrists on the bar – resumes with bail, short of handstand – DLO, stuck, pretty finish. Georgia very lucky those early routines got good scores. 9.000

Graber – VT – Alabama – Y1.5 – giant vault but similarly giant bound forward, great other than the landing, so still should be a semi useful score. 9.900 with a huge bound forward. Someone save me.

Nebraska has to work against a leadoff fall on beam.

Oakley – UB – Georgia – higgins to piked jaeger, really close catch but gets it – up to handstand andahhhhhhhhh, overcasts and has to come off.

GEORGIA! The two best ones aren’t supposed to fall.

Alabama fine on vault and got 49.325 for the effort.

And Curtis falls second up for Nebraska on beam. Georgia and Nebraska need to go drinking tonight.

Oakley ended up with a 7.8 on bars so Georgia goes 48.225 there. Well, that is just terrible.

Roby is up 4th for Nebraska on beam – good aerial bhs loso series, solid – switch to split jump, solid 180s – side aerial to full, slide back. better. Must be a start value thing because they took a long time to give her 9.550. This meet is definitely being judged in a different world than the Alabama meet.

Rotation 2 – Georgia/Alabama

Magee – VT – Georgia – clean full in the air – bounce back – not the highest but fine. 9.800

Childers – UB – Alabama – good first hs – toe on to maloney to bail, solid – gets up to hs on high – blind is late into her dismount, chest down with a hop. 9.850

Ward – VT – Georgia – solid control on her Tsuk full landing – slide back, good layout and chest up. One of her better ones. 9.825

Gaskins – Ub – ALabama – maloney to pak, small leg break in the pak – gets up to handstands on high bar well – DLO, slide back

Roberts – VT – Georgia – tries her Y1.5 and can’t remotely get it around, hand down.

Graber – UB – Alabama – gienger, leg break – good hs – bail, good toe point – FTDT, chest down with a hop forward. 9.800

Houchin had a bigggg lean to the side on beam for Nebraska but did get out of that one with a 9.775.

Vega – VT – Georgia – small slide back on her full, good – the usual, distance is there, not super high, some soft knees – 9.825

Dickson – UB – Alabama – good first hs – bail, small leg break, a bit of an angle – toe on to tkatchev, wonderful height and counter, just some flexed feet – FTDT, bounce back

Hawthorne – VT – Georgia – large bounce back on her full, which we’ve come to expect, good pop and layout position – they need more difficulty for her next season. Still goes 9.850

Mahoney – UB – Alabama – toe on to bail, good toe point, crisply done – solid cast hs on high – tkatchev, hit – short cast hs on high – FTDT, great shape, stuck landing. Excellent other than that one very short handstand. 9.900

Lukacs – VT – Georgia – DTY today with a bounce back today – you can see her comparative height versus Olsen’s DTY. 9.875

Doggette – UB – Alabaam – tkatchev to pak, pretty, also nice counter on her tkatchev – strong handstand on high – DLO, overcooks it with a lunge back.

Georgia gets a 49.175 on vault with some pretty high scores on those last couple.

Alabama 49.225 on bars. They gave away a lot on landings, but it was still weird to see much cleaner routines than Georgia’s early ones get those same 9.800.

Going to be tough to dig out of this for Nebraska after a 48.0 on beam. Missouri on track for a useful 196 if beam goes OK.

Georgia is trying to beat a 196.300 road score, so that could actually still be on the table if the next couple events are absolutely huge. You never know. Alabama also will want to pick up the pace because their lowest counting home score now is 197.200, so need to be stronger than that for this one to matter.

Magee – FX – Georgia – pike full in, gets it around, chest down and a bounce back – switch side to popa, an odd little bounce landing it – back 1.5 to layout to stag, stag a touch off balance – double pike was really low, chest down with a lunge. 9.750

Olsen – BB – Alabama – switch to split, not bad – bhs loso series, secure – some long pauses in here – aerial, hit – bhs bhs double pike, gets it around, small hop, and then another little step.

Roberts – FX – Georgia – pike full in, nice position in the air, good presence to keep her step back right in the corner – frotn lay to front full is low, some soft position to compensate – double pike, solid

Doggette – BB – Alabama – bhs loso, good landing – beat to switch 1/2 to beat, gets a lot of height there, not quite all the way to split – side aerial to full, step back

Hawthorne – FX – Georgia – huge double pike, small bounce back, smaller than we’ve usually seen – split leap full was in an odd plane, good split jump full, she usually has no problem showing off the splits there – front lay to rudi to split jump – double tuck, another small bounce

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, well extended – bhs loso, good positions in the air, check with a side lean – switch to sheep, small arm wave – 2/1, high, little hop in place. Still goes 9.9 OK

Hu is anchoring beam for Missouri now – bhs loso, right on, good height – switch to split jump, extended – Y spin – aerial to beat, pretty – aerial to scale, nice – holds the stick on her dismount. Excellent. 9.950.

Vega – FX – Georgia – full in, hit pretty solidly, chest just a bit down – back 1.5 to layout to sissone, lovely layout – switch ring to split leap full, good – split leap 1.5 was under rotated this week – double pike, keeps front foot down. Good. 9.900

FINAL: Missouri 196.450, Nebraska 195.775

Really important score for Missouri, which will be enough to get back up into the top 16 this week. Missed opportunity for Nebraska, which will go no higher than 19th on Monday.

After 3: Alabama 147.850, Georgia 146.750

Alabama needs to go at least 49.375 on floor to improve its NQS, which should be very doable because I’m expecting some senior night. Georgia would need to go 49.575 to help itself, which even with Georgia’s strength on beam, seems unlikely.

Bart tells us that Georgia is hoping to get Dickson a redshirt season for next year. Which is…not what I’ve heard. We shall see.

Magee – BB – Georgia – straddle jump to split 1/2, excellent – bhs bhs loso, quite nice technique there as well – 1.5 dismount, takes it kind of close to the beam but fine, step back. 9.875

Olsen – FX – Alabama – double double, hits it, just a bit too deep and has to take a step back – switch through to split leap 1.5 to split jump 1/2, double tuck is short, chest forward, step. 9.825

Hawthorne – BB – Georgia – bhs loso, high, solid landing – switch to switch split jump, right on – kickover front from knee, hits it but pauses before sissone to break connection – 1.5, hop back. 9.825

Blanco – FX – Alabama – double pike, nailed it – switch ring to switch 1/2 to popa, glorious all of them – double tuck, secure landing, chest pretty well up – front full to layout, just a bit of soft arch, otherwise excellent. 9.925

Desch – FX – Alabama – double pike, smoothly landed – 1.5 to half to split to front tuck and runs out of it – double tuck, also solid, small foot movement – not quite as extended on her leaps in this one but basically gets to 180. 9.925. I thought Mahoney’s was stronger.

Baumann – BB – Georgia – side aerial to loso, comfortable landing – overturns her full turn, check – bea tto switch side, nice toe point and horizontal position – sticks 1.5 and holds it with a lean. 9.900

Graber – FX – Alabama – full in, mostly solid landing, small slide, chest up position – switch side and wolf jump 1.5 look strong, clearly around – front tuck through to double pike, nice. Another 9.925

Vega – BB – Georgia – split mount, good – switch to split ring jump, arm wave – aerial, check before split jump – bhs loso, knees, hit – side aerial to full, another good one. 9.875

Doggette – FX – Alabama – split jump full, a bit under split – full in, hit, chest up, hop to the side – switch 12/ to popa, good popa but the switch 1/2 was also short – front tuck through to double tuck, solid, that was a good one. 9.925. Lineup order scoring since that was not as strong as the other 9.925s.

Georgia 49.300 on beam. 196.050 final. A drop score.

Alabama 49.600 on floor. 197.450 final. Helps the NQS but not enough to get past Denver. Will be potentially vulnerable to being passed by Cal tomorrow and dropped to 9th. Georgia will sit at 12th.
