Iowa State has withdrawn from Metroplex but I still have them in the header image because I didn’t feel like making a new one, and I’m OK with that life choice.

Let’s start with Minnesota, Maryland, and Iowa. Minnesota joined this meet late following the cancellation of the meet with Michigan State, so this is now the third team this season that Minnesota and Iowa will compete. It’s 1-1 so far.

Streaming link for Iowa tri-meet is updated.

Watching gymnasts’ faces when the PA person mispronounces their names is my favorite pastime.

OK, touch warmup finally rounding up now.

Rotation 1

Greenwald – VT- Iowa – nearly sells the stick on her Yfull, but not really, salute-steps out of it – but solid control overall, great distance. 9.825

Tsiknias – UB – Maryland – “Alexa Sinkus” short first hs – jaeger, hit, some feet – good cast hs out of it – solid bail position – balance check stepping up to high bar – DLO, ooooof, short landing and hands down. A weird one for her. 9.000

Montgomery has a check on her front tuck on beam, otherwise hit. 9.850

Vance – VT – Iowa – rough Yfull, nowhere close, lands knees first – limping away

LeBlanc on bars for Maryland catches verrrry close on her gienger, desperately avoiding another fall, lunge back on dismount. 9.575

Clean work from Sonier on beam – pretty beat jump to standing loso – bhs to one-arm bhs to 1.5, small step. Solid. 9.875

Kenlin – VT – Iowa – hits a fairly solid yfull, small hop back, has to pike at the end. 9.775

Weir – Ub – Maryland – giant full to gienger, large leg break but hits it – struggles on the cast hs – bail – some very short casts, just getting through – sticks dismount though. 9.550

Ooooooh fall for Loper on beam on her series. Everyone is having a TIME to start this meet

Killian – VT – Iowa – solid distance on her Yfull, pretty large bounce back though. 9.800

Osterhout on bars for Maryland – hits a jaeger, less careful release than the last couple – lands locked on her double front but quickly adjusts to just have a hop to the side. 9.700

Henderson – VT – Iowa – good, medium hop back on her yfull, has the dynamics and layout shape to really only get hit for the bounce. 9.825

Iowa goes 49.050. They’ll take it, dropping the fall.

Long wait to some up with Loper’s fall score. 9.250

Nylin – BB – Minn – hit full turn – bhs bhs loso, solid, small squeeze correction – hitch kick to switch side, some feet but secure – 1.5 dismount, stuck, good bounce back. 9.850

Silberman got 9.750 on bars for Maryland. Barber finishes – short first hs – clear hip to hindorff to overshoot, solid combination, some feet – a couple short casts – DLO, stuck.

Korlin-Downs – BB – Minn – Because Ramler is on this team, we don’t talk enough about how pretty Korlin-Downs is on beam – bhs loso with a larger break, bend at the hips – lovely split and stag ring positions but another check – side aerial to full, stuck. Stayed alive for Ramler to save it. 9.675

Barber’s 9.850 takes Maryland to 48.425 on bars.

Ramler – BB – Minn – smooth full turn – bhs loso series, very precise – aerial to wolf, comfortably connected – beat to split ring jump, nice feet – side aerial top full, stuck landing. Excellent work as always.

9.950 for Ramler, or as last night’s meet would call it, “Medium.”

That takes Minnesota to 49.200

After 1: Minnesota 49.200, Iowa 49.050, Maryland 48.425

Minnesota hit beam! So that’s a win.

Sales falls on beam in exhibition for Minn. Maryland a low bars score. They got very careful on releases after that fall and ended up with some 9.5s.

Rotation 2

How is this tri-meet view going to handle a team being on floor?

Henderson – UB – Iowa – good first hs – toe on to maloney to overshoot, larger leg break on overshoot – solid cast hs on high – FTDT, good stick, just some feet here and there. 9.525? I have her at a 9.9 SV and a UTL deduction there.

Burgess – BB – maryland – kickover to bhs, solid elements, a little slow in combo – swtich to straddle 1/2, some positions in there – beat to side somi, small lean – aannnndd we’ve switch to seeing Koch on floor. 9.775

She finishes with a secure rudi. 9.725

Weir – BB – maryland – bhs loso series, hit – beat to loso, arm wave check, some knees – switch to straddle 1/4, back leg on switch – full turn, overturns it and takes another check – cat leap to switch side, short of split – bhs 1.5, lunge forward. 9.675

Greenwald – Ub – Iowa – Ray, solid – toe on to pak, good efficient shape – short of handstand on 1/2 turn on low – solid cast hs on high – DLO, a bit deep, hop forward. 9.725

Leneave – FX – Minn – double pike, a bit bouncy, chest down – swtich 1/2 to wolf full, not quite there on switch position – 1.5 to layout is a struggle, flat layout, has to tuck it at the end – double tuck, has to cowboy it, controls the landing.

Rogers finishes bars for Iowa with a nice double tuck, secure landing. 9.825

Ramler – FX – Minn – good split ring full – double tuck, very secure landing – switch ring, lovely, into switch 1/2 – 1.5 through to 2/1, keeps front foot down well, some leg crossing – 1.5 to layout, again solid, just gets a bit soft in shape.

Joining Kaji bars in progess – pretty pak – finishes DLO, great straight position, small hop forward, and then a little bounce salute.

McClure – BB – Maryland – aerial, corrects her leg-up check into scale – switch to straddle 1/4, very strong split positions – kickover to bhs, nice gainer rudi dismount, small step.

Kenlin – UB – Iowa – a bit short on first hs – maloney to pak, nicely done – a bit short on a hs – toe full, slightly late into double tuck, slide back. 9.775

Hooten – FX- Minn – nails her full in – switch side to popa, like that lift into her popa – front full to a high front pike, some knees on front full – double tuck, solid. 9.925

Barber – BB – maryland – bhs loso, secure – kickover front with a lean – switch to split, small hesitation – 2/1 dismount, lunge back

Loper – FX – Minn – front lay to rudi, good form, a little steppy – switch ring to split full – 2.5, controls well because she seemed like she was coming in a little short – back 1.5 to layout, slightly lungey. Another 9.925.

Maryland goes 48.650 on beam, Iowa 48.925 on bars.

Willmarth is in on floor to anchor for Minnesota. No Remlinger. She tries a double pike and it doesn’t go great na dshe ends up rolling around on the ground for a second. Just does pull around a double tuck, her hips may have shot out the back.

So despite some really strong floor there in the middle, Minnestoa will go just 49.150 because of counting the first two numbers.

After 2:
Minnesota 98.350
Iowa 97.975
Maryland 97.075

Rotation 3

Henderson – BB – Iowa – secure landing on loso series – cat to switch side, nice extension there – round off double tuck dismount, really good control on landing, just a bit deep. Nice. 9.875

Tsiknias – FX – Maryland – rudi to loso is solid – swtich ring to split leap full is more of a struggle, not quite up to split positions – front 2/1, a little under but pulls it out with a crossover step. 9.725

Grotenius had a very large bounce back on her Yfull for 9.700

Gilchrist – BB – Iowa – bhs back pike was tentative but she survived it – arm wave check – switch to double stag – hitch to side aerial, solid – side somi, another arm wave – gainer pike.

Hooten hits a Y1.5 for Minnesota, medium hop forward. 9.875

Silberman – FX – Maryland – rudi to loso first pass, lowish but solid

Ramler – VT- Minn – hits her Y1.5 – landing snuck up on her slightly with a step to the side. Good. 9.900 is kind of high for that.

Silberman also finishes front 2/1, step, some knees.

Killian – Bb – finishes with a lovely switch to split and a stuck 1.5

Oooh Ramler sticks a Y1.5. So what do we do with that now?

Did they can our commentator?

Anddd they give it a 10.000.

It was barely in the bottom corner of the screen, so I can’t say I can super comment on the score. For me, some knees were there, but a great stick.

McClure finishes floor with a lay to full and a dance out.

So that’s 49.425 on vault for Minnesota.

Killian – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series, securely hit, some leg positions early – punch front is solid – switch to switch, better position in second switch – 2/1, bounce back. 9.825

Rouse finishes floor with a double tuck, a bit deep with a step forward

Kaji – BB – Iowa – comfortable full turn – bhs loso and a major break, leg-up check, keeps it on the beam – cat leap to side aerial, very nice – split jump to split jump 3/4, comfortable – gainer full, good. 9.750

Hit for Burgess fifth on floor.

Kenlin – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series, good extension – smooth and pretty choreography in there – switch to split, very nice split positions – aerial to beat, comfortable – overturns full turn some – bhs bhs to a very high 1.5, stuck. Good work.

Kenlin’s 9.925 gives Iowa 49.200 on beam.

Barber – FX – maryland – hits full in, slide back – 1.5 to front pike, solid – good popa positions – double tuck, solid

Her 9.850 gets Maryland up to 49.000 for floor.

Question to this meet: Why are you taking forever?

After 3:
Minnesota 147.775
Iowa 147.175
Maryland 146.075

Ona Loper and Lexy Ramler now both have the same number of 10s in their careers—two.

Rotation 4

Killian – FX – Iowa – hits a solid 3/1, controlled step – front full to front pike, lunge out, some leg crossing – switch side to popa, good – double tuck, slide back. 9.850

Montgomery bars 9.825

Hooten – UB – Minn – blind to piked jaeger to overshoot, solid.

Silberman vaults a full on back tuck with a slide back

Castle – FX – Iowa – double pike, secure landing, just some feet – a bit short on wolf position – rudi, hit – back 1.5 to layout with a dance out

Gilbert with a large lunge out of her Y1/2 on vault. 9.750

Willmarth finishes bars with a stuck double tuck, but had a fall earlier in the routine.

Greenwald – FX – Iowa – very solid landing on full in – switch side to popa, higher – 2.5 to front tuck, just a tad short on landing, solid.

Barber – VT – MD – great amplitude, full tenth slide back on her full

Loper – UB – MN – a bit short on first hs – maloney to pak is loverly – 1/2 turn on low, solid – just a couple casts – giant full, good finish poisition into double tuck, slide back. 9.825

Henderson – FX – Iowa – another strong full in, under control on landing – switch side to popa to straddle, overturns the switch side some – front tuck through to double tuck, great work.

OK whoa. 9.975 for Henderson. I don’t think the dance elements can get you to a 10 there.

Us, an hour ago, very stupid: ah, these temperate Big 10 scores
Us, now, very smart: The SEC is spreadinggggg

Kaji – FX – Iowa – 1.5 through to double tuck, chest a bit down, step – front tuck – double pike, small slide back –

Apparently Ramler went just 9.825 on bars. So it’s a 196.975 final for MN.

Iowa needs 9.925 from Guerin to set a new program floor record.

Guerin – FX – Iowa – huge full in, secure landing – switch side to popa to straddle, good elements, a little bouncy – double tuck, slide back

9.950 and a 49.600 for Iowa on floor.

FINAL:
Minnesota 196.975
Iowa 196.775
Maryland 195.250

LIU inaugural meet time. Illinois/Penn State is also supposed to start shortly.

I’m not going to pretend I know all the LIU gymnasts by face yet, so if there’s no commentary, bear with me.

We can listen to Randy running us through everyone’s routine composition right now.

“She does a shaposh to a really nasty overshoot.” I’m in heaven. I might miss some routines because all I want to do is listen to this.

Anyway, Penn St and Illinois has started. Bladon hits her vault this week, a little short, hop forward.

Bonsall – VT – Penn St – third up,strong open on her yfull, slide back, good shape and direction

Simons – UB – Ill – toe on to ray, great height into overshoot but struggles to get out of it – has to rest against the low bar for a second, so won’t be a high one.

Monique De La Torre doing commentary for LIU

Cross – VT – Penn St – bounce back on a full –

O’Donnell – UB – Illinois – small arch on first cast hs – blind to jaeger, lovely height and toes – short cast hs on high – bail, good vertical and toe point – giant full to double tuck, step forward

Rushlow – VT – Penn St – strong yfull, small hop in place

Apparently LIU has had only a couple weeks of full training?

Takekawa – UB – Ill – good first hs – blind into piked jaeger, comfortable – bail, hits vertical – some shortish cast hs in here – DLO, pikes it down at the end, good stick

Howell – VT – Penn St – some piking in her yfull, hop to the side.

Ewald – UB – Illinois – blind to jaeger, good – hits cast on high – pak, pretty – 1/2 turn on low is rather late – good cast hs on high – FTDT, stuck. Nice.

We’re still just in intros at LIU, and the Penn State/Illinois scores aren’t working. So I don’t have a lot to tell you about.

Looks like it’s 49.175 Illinois to 48.500 Penn State after one. Those vault scores seem tigggggght. This is a different meet. These are not SEC judges.

OK, LIU/UNH is starting, and second rotation from Illinois and Penn State.

Waight hits vault for Illinois – Y1/2 with a lunge forward

Miller – VT – LIU – Ylayout full – landed it while alive – short landing, lunge forward/sideward and off the mat – it begins

Kelley – UB – UNH – solid gienger – hits bail with a leg break – short cast hs on high – giant full, hesitation with a leg break – double tuck, step forward

Loo – VT – LIU – falls on her yfull layout – has the amplitude on that vault but overcooks it and sits it down

And….LIU’s inaugural judging delay!

DeVincenzo – UB – UNH – shortish first hs – toe on to maloney and peels off, very low, couldn’t get her hands over.

9.375 and 9.225 for LIU’s first two vaults.

Koopman – VT – LIU – hits a Ytucked full – lands chest down with a medium hop forward. Solid work. 9.55

Anyway, with all these delays – Romagnano is finishing for Penn state on bars – solid maloney to bail – small arch in cast hs on high -giant full to double tuck, pulled in too much and a lunge back.

Penn State will cut into Illinois’s lead after two as Illinois also got hit with the L10 vault judging. (AKA those judges are actually doing their jobs, but because everyone else isn’t it make them seem like satan.)

Brown – UB – UNH – bail, hit, some angle – good cast hs on high – khorkina, hit, a bit low – short cast on high – giant full, late, into stuck double tuck.

Ricketts – VT – LIU – does a ylayout but the most comfortable vault of the group – small hop back, some piking 9.625

Lui – UB – UNH – maloney, hit with some legs – toe on to bail, hits vertical, legs apart on catch – good final cast on high large straddle to initiate her giant full into double tuck, step back.

Van Allen – VT – LIU – hits a ylayout as well, small hop back, a bit straighter shape than the previous one.

Bedminster was injured in floor warmup. NOT IDEAL.

It’s 47.250 for LIU’s first vault rotation.

After 2: Illinois 97.950, Penn St 97.625

Kratchwell – UB – UNH – blind to piked jaeger, solid, a little low – very short cast hs on high – bail, catches, some loose back – solid cast hs on high – DLO bounce back and another small additional hop

Bauman – UB – UNH – anchor routine – blind to jaeger to overshoot – hits her feet on the mat on her overshoot – giant full to double tuck, hop back

Meanwhile, Verdeflor – BB – Penn St – follwing 9.825 from Romangano – hits wolf turn single – aerial, keeps arms moving into korbut pretty smoothly this time – side aerial, solid – split jump to stag ring, very nice positions – side somi to tuck full, stuck. One of her most confident beam routines. 9.875 with a 9.950/9.800 split.

Biondi – FX – Illinois – double pike, bounce back, keeps it in bounds – front lay to front full, a bit short, step back – very solid double tuck landing.

Cross – BB – Penn St – bhs loso series, some knees, hit – split jump to sheep is secure – kickover to beat, a little deep but connect into it well – 1.5 stuck landing.

UNH went 48.425 on bars in that first rotation to LIU’s 47.250.

In this third rotation from Penn St we’ve already had three .2 judges splits. This LIU meet will take 16 hours.

Biette – VT – UNH – falls on her yfull attempt, very short, lands on all fours.

Miller – UB – LIU – a bit short on first hs – giant 1/2 to bail, solid – toe shoot to high with a dead hang – not bad on the casts though – DLO, hop back. That’s a more competitive routine. 9.500

Miele – VT – UNH – hits a yfull, medium lunge back, some piking

Arayah Simons finishes floor with a solid solid tuck for Illinois, small slide back.

I assume I’m not the only one whose LIU stream keeps dying?

We see Hilliard finish her routine with a giant full into just a layout. Looks like she had issues before that? 8.650

Sounds like UNH has an additional vault fall we didn’t see.

Takagi – UB – LIU – toe 1/2 to piked vault over high bar – misses her feet on a toe on after it and has to take some extra swings – toe 1/2 to straddle back – finishes with an attempted toe layout 1/2, not landed, hands down. 8.450

After 3: Illinois 147.150, Penn St 146.525

Lapp – UB – LIU – good first hs – maloney to pak, archy but solid – struggles to cast out with a late 1/2 turn on low – good cast hs on high – DLO, very deep, lunge forward but stayed on her feet. Pretty maloney. 9.700. Nice.

We have a hit yfull from UNH on vault, a little under-rotated with cause a sideward lunge

Koopman – UB – LIU – clear hip to maloney, legs, but solid – this must be the overshoot we heard about – has to drag her feet on the mat – struggles on cast hs on high, clear hip to FTDT, lands deep but lands it.

9.6. Oh, you also got a weird overscore! LIU checking everything off the NCAA gymnastics bingo in this first meet.

UNH finishes with ylayout, hop back.

Cohen – UB – LIU – toe on with some back into tkatchev, close ubut it – struggles on her pak, u-shaped – some short handstands – doubel tuck, hop forward

The 9.425 from Cohen takes LIU to 46.875 on bars (we’ve seen worse this season).

So after 2: UNH is at 95.800 to LIU’s 94.125

Koopman – BB – LIu – bhs bhs loso, secure landing, slight bent knees – tuck jump full attempt was a little short – side aerial, large break, bend at hips – switch – gainer full, small hop. Nice shape on switch. 9.525

MacDonald – FX – UNH – double pike with a stumble back and OOB – front lay to front full, hit, some knees – switch 1/2 to wolf full, short on switch position – sort of a rudi to stag spider situation in final pass that I enjoyed. 9.250

Van Allen – BB – LIU – bhs loso series, secure, just some knees – beat to split jump 3/4, solid, some back leg – kickover to beat, nicely done – 1.5 dismount, leans to hold the stick. Nice!

That routine was straight-up nationally competitive. 9.750

Miele – FX – UNH – whip to double pike, hit, lunge back OOB – switch, some back leg – hit wolf full – double tuck, solid. 9.550

Ricketts – BB – LIU – aerial, a ccheck into split jump so won’t get the combo – bhs loso series, holds it with a check, really nice extension – switch to switch, lovely positions, does an extra split jump but a bit late for combo – pretty full turn – split jump 1/2 from side is short – bhs to tuck 1.5 with large lunge forward. Some checks and the lunge but really nice technique. Nothing built in. 9.550

Cucich – FX – UNH – hits a front 2/1, under-rotated with a step but hit – whip to 1.5, a crossover step – switch ring to split full, under on the split position there – rudi, deep, hop to the side. 9.625

Barrington – BB – LIU – solid full turn – bhs loso series, secure, just some knees – switch to split, short position on switch – cat leap to side aerial, pause before split jump – 1.5 dismount, jussssst saves it, lunge back. But another sturdy set on the beam. 9.550

Lui – FX – UNH – front 2/1 is quite solid, clearly around – switch ring to split leap full, good clear 180 position on the split leap – front lay to rudi, secure, just some crossed legs. Better. 9.775

Doten – BB – LIU – split ring jump to beat, nice closure on her ring position, front leg a little low, but she committed to the ring – bhs loso series, small hestiation on landing, good power – y spin, doesn’t hold it in y poisition that long but hit – some short splits in combination there – cat leap to side aerial to full, stuck, chest down. Well, hello LIU, you just hit five good beam routines. 9.750

Kelley – FX – UNH – kickover through to double tuck, nice secure landing – split leap full to popa to popa – double pike, chest down, medium step

Lapp – bhs loso series., very strong – aerial, small hesitation into double stag – 1.5 dismount, hop forward. 9.800

That was REALLY good beam. I did not expect to be seeing REALLY GOOD BEAM. They are honestly working out some broken connections away from scoring with some name teams there. Most of those 9.5s were SV issues with the potential to go a couple tenths higher rather than a reflection of the actual beam level.

Bauman – FX – UNH – 2.5, with crossover step, some leg crossing – 1.5 to layout, hit.

48.400 for LIU on beam. They can get a 49 this season, especially when everyone’s available.

UNH ended up with 48.425 on floor.

So it’s New Hampshire 144.225, LIU 142.525

Graver – BB – UNH – cat leap to side aerial, step back, small lean – bhs loso series, good extension but 1700 steps backward on it, stayed on the beam – nice real-life sheep jump – side aerial to layout full, stuck with a lean. 9.500

Loo – FX – LIU – front tuck through to double tuck, short landing, chest down with a bounce forward – good attention to finishing position on her three-jump combination – double pike, secure landing. 9.725

Baddick – BB – UNH – punch front, holds it, small slide forward – bhs loso, very nice, secure landing, good amplitude and extension – split jump to sheep, small correction – oooof punch front tuck full and falls in a ball. That looked ouchie. 9.250

Cohen – FX – LIU – back 1.5 to front lay, secure landing, leg crossing – switch side to popa to split leap full attempt, though didn’t get them all the way around, nice split positions – double tuck, short, hands down. Was pretty solid before that. 8.950

DeVincenzo – BB – UNH – pretty full turn – bhs loso series, secure, bent legs on both – switch to straddle 1/4, good split positions – hitch to kickover, deep but solid – bhs to just a back tuck with a bounce back, couldn’t do her dismount. 9.250

Koopman – FX – LIU – hits her 3/1, for a while it did not look like she would get that around but she did, pretty realistically – switch through to shushunova – 1.5 turn to tuck jump 2/1 (about?) – 2.5 to front tuck, a miraculous save to land that front tuck to her feet, deep squat but not a fall. 9.525

Miele – BB – UNH – bhs loso and falls. OOF. New Hampshire coming apart on beam – nice side aerial – switch to back tuck, some pause in between – straddle jump to straddle 1/4, hit her straddles – side aerial to full, hop back. 9.125

Miller – FX – LIU – double pike, pretty secure, just some chest position – front full to layout, hit – switch 1/2 to popa to wolf full, also under on some of those dance element rotations – back 1.5 to front tuck, pulls it out, fairly deep but again a hit. 9.650

Kelley – BB – UNH – bhs loso loso series, lovely, extended and controlled, quite nice – switch to straddle 1/4, loses her toe point in those – kickover, holds well, a tad deep – bhs 1.5, stuck landing. More like it. 9.900

Lapp – FX – LIU – double pike, pulls it around, deep chest – switch ring to switch 1/2 to wolf was nice, good positions and clearly defined – double wolf turn on floor like a proper elite – front lay to front full, gets a little caught in her own feet with a hop to the side. 9.675

Lui – BB – UNH – aerial to split jump, lovely form – bhs loso, large break, bend at the waist but stays on – side aerial, strong – side somi, also very good – switch to split, another excellent split combo – 1.5, stuck. One large error, the rest was perfection. 9.825

Goldberg – FX – LIU – punch rudi, lunge back OOB – switch 1/2 to wolf full, a little out of contol – standing back tuck, bounce – front full to front tuck, a bit short, step back. Hit. (As we learned this season, she will also get deducted for not having a three-element pass.)

Looks like 191.950 for New Hampshire. Which…they won’t be over the moom about that one.

Waiting on the final score for LIU, but it’s going to be over 190, so that’s an accomplishment. Will be ahead of Illinois State and Bowling Green for the time being among other DI teams.

FINAL: New Hampshire 191.950, Long Island 190.575

Thoughts on LIU: Very impressed by beam of course. The form is quite nice. Floor was the next most competitive. They need to get a few more people in that lineup, have a little bit more time to get the pass endurance down, but there’s potential. Vault and bars were quite sparse and it will be tougher to be competitive there this season. But, getting Folino and Bedminster in there on vault would change that quite a bit, and having those two plus Titarsolej can beef up a lot of these lineups.

I thought it would be worse. That’s a compliment coming from me, right? I thought every event was going to look how bars looked. That was not a bad first effort given new team and a pandemic. Lots of room for growth considering that three important contributors were out for this meet.

Break time, and then I’ll be back in a few hours to write up Oklahoma’s routines from Metroplex.

On to Metroplex. It’s kind of a weird Metroplex year because usually this is a showdown, but especially with the withdrawal of Iowa State, it’s basically an Oklahoma competing against itself situation. And then TWU should in turn have a large advantage over Centenary.

All the events are labeled correctly, so this is already one of FLO’s better performances.

We haven’t brought the teams out yet, just doing a Flip Fest commercial, so settle in.

I’m so so so thankful we can’t see whatever this introduction abomination is.

Welp, we already almost killed Audrey Davis with a smoke machine.

No Ragan Smith in any lineups today. So that’s going to be interesting.

“Please welcome the laddddieeEEESSSSS” is uncomfortable. Did they find this guy at Sapphire’s Metroplex Gentleman’s Club?

That Google image search for “Military Patriotism” slide show during the anthem was also uncomfortable.

Bars will be the inactive event in the first rotation, so it looks like they didn’t reassign events after ISU pulled out.

Touch warmup starting now. Let’s all go to Metroplex and get COVID.

Audrey Davis in anchoring vault for Oklahoma. Possible upgrade?

Rotation 1

LaPinta – VT – OU – not her stronger Yfull, lands short with a hop forward, didn’t get a ton of block. 9.800. If that’s 9.800, everyone is getting a 10 tonight.

Stern – VT – OU – solid Y1.5 – medium pace forward, just some knees –

Levasseur – VT – OU – pretty Y1.5 in the air, nice layout shape, hop forward, both feet.

Jackson falls on her first pass on floor for Centenary

Webb – VT – OU – very strong Y1.5, near stick – just a little movement and softness at the end, but very nice.

We haven’t gotten a score since the first vault.

Schoepfer – VT – OU – Labeled as levasseur – better control on her tucked Y1.5 than in warmups – just a little coal-walk landing – hop to the side.

10 for Webb. You knew it would be.

Davis does upgrade to the Y1.5 and finds a stick. Just a bit deep in landing. But did not expect it to be THAT good. Really nice.

Schoepfer 9.975 for a vault that wasn’t even CLOSE to stuck. Wait but seriously?

Davis listed at 9.925. Hers was better than Schoepfer’s.

We have Oklahoma at 49.750 right now. Well, someone just blew Florida/LSU out of the water.

For LSU fans feeling aggrieved, your 49.600 vault rotation yesterday was better than this Oklahoma 49.750 vault rotation today.

That was insanity. I should be live blogging these Centenary and TWU routines, but sorry, I died of scores, so I can’t.

The Schoepfer one is the one that’s throwing me the most. There’s no way any human would think that was stuck.

TWU ‘s acnhor beam from Pierce – kickover front with an arm wave correction to hold it – switch to split, nice position on that switch – cat leap to kickover again, check to the side, breaks combo into bhs – front tuck full dismount with a slide salute. Nice ability on leaps. SV will get her. No acro series in there. 9.300

Oklahoma came up .025 short of the program vault record.

In the FLO department, we’ve already had Schoepfer identified as Levassuer and Madeline Gose identified as from the wrong team.

Harris – FX – Centenary – double tuck, under control – back tuck to tucked shushunova side pass – back 1.5 to layout, lands a little short but holds her layout shape – 9.550

Sanders – FX – Centenary – double pike, hit, a little short – punch rudi, comes in very angled but does a diagonal Felicia Hano jump out of it – punch front full to layout, pulls it around

48.475 for TWU on beam, 47.700 for Centenary on floor. Centenary had a solid floor exhibition. Wonder why that wasn’t in the lineup.

Here’s the Schoepfer 9.975, while you’re waiting for the next event.

And that was just one rotation.

Rotation 2

Thomas – UB – OU – good first hs – toe 1/2 to jaeger, solid, toe 1/2 just a little late – one short cast hs – nice bail to low bar, good vertical – strong final cast hs on high – DLO, small slide back. Good. 9.875

LeVasseur – UB – OU – good first hs – malony to bail, nice vertical on bail – strong cast hs on high – DLO is a struggle, very short, bound forward. Super pretty on the bars. 9.775

These first two bars scores are, like, normal. So there might be hope for the culture. Might.

Draper – Ub – OU – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, a little low, some feet – small leg break in pak – 1/2 turn on low bar, rather late – double front, cowboy, some feet, but really nice stick. 9.900. Never mind.

I feel like at least six people have been identified as Leilani Johnson so far.

Webb – UB – OU – pak, lovely – van leeuwen, clean – smooth hs on high – toe 1/2, late, into double front 1/2 out, struggles to control it, pretty large lunge-salute back.

Deniz – UB – OU – Ray, nice – shortish following cast – gets to vertical well on low bar – just tight in a couple handstands – toe full, a bit late, into double tuck, stuck. 9.900

really strong back 1/5 to front full from TWU on floor just now.

Handstands and foot form are optional.

Davis – UB – OU – good first hs – higgins to high piked jaeger – strong following cast hs – pak, pretty work – a little late on 1/2 turn on low – casts look great – higgins to front giant to double front, pace forward. 9.875

That routine getting a lower score than Draper’s with such similar composition sends the message that form, precision, toe point, and amplitude are all irrelevant. What a fun day.

Oklahoma 49.350 on bars. The bars judges were not on quite as many drugs as the vault judges. But also, dismounts. Lots of not good dismounts again in that rotation.

Centenary went 48.275 on vault.

TWU’s 4th up on floor just landed into an exact ball shape on her floor mat and bounced right back up. Also I think she went 9.625 for it.

Madeline Gose just did 1500 straddle elements in a row and is still bouncing out of them and I’m here for it. Rudi to finish, lunge back, but solid tumbling overall.

Anyway, did I miss the last TWU floor routine to get myself a judging cocktail? Yes I did. A judging cocktail is like a regular cocktail but you have the excuse of needing to forget about trauma.

After 2: Oklahoma 99.100, TWU 97.100, Centenary 95.975

Rotation 3

Solid Yfull first up for TWU from Johnson – bounce back, a little piking, good work. 9.750.

But we have a run though second up, Successfully does a vault on her next try.

Dunn – BB – OU – bhs bhs loso series, very solid – hits straddle 1/2, secure, not the most extended – stuck gainer full. 9.875

KJ giving a lot of pre-beam reiki to Schoepfer.

Schoepfer – BB – OU – bhs loso series, solid, some knees in bhs – side aerial through to switch to split, that’s the best I’ve seen her connect – 1.5 stuck landing, some knees. Well hello, very confident from her. 9.900

Deniz – BB – OU – side aerial to bhs, hits – aerial, small check – switch to split, pretty comfortable, a little shy on switch – sude aerial to full, stuck. Nice. Her beam work is still stiff, but she has the ability to hit all the positions and do a confident routine. This was solid. 9.875

TWU losing it on vault because Woodring went 9.900 for a full with a hop back. Well, the vault judging is consistent within the meet….????[stabs self]

Davis – BB – OU – bhs loso, smoothly done – cat leap to aerial, nice – beat to split ring jump, small squeeze correction – 2/1, step back, 9.850. When form isn’t evaluated at all (hi, NCAA gym), then the person with the best form of the rotation gets the lowest score because she had checks in her routine, while getting no reward for how much better she does everything than peasants do.

Baumgartner for Centenary has a big gienger and pak on bars but sadly she’ll get no tenths because of handstands.

Thomas – BB – OU – fun my stram died for the beginning of this routine, I love FLO – bhs loso series is very nice – switch to split, confident positions – side aerial, stuck. Gooddd. 9.950. OK now.

Webb – BB – OU – bhs loso series, well done – cat leap to aerial to beat, little pause after cat leap – dwitch to switch, really nice split positions today – side aerial to full, stuck. Strong routine.

9.975. Was pretty sure they would go 10 there because Thomas set her up for it. Beam scoring high, obviously, to get Oklahoma to 49.575 here, but less offensive than beam because there were also some very fine routines in there.

After 3: Oklahoma 148.675, TWU 146.050, Centenary 143.600

So Oklahoma will be looking for a 49.500 on floor to pass Florida for the top score of the season.

Rotation 4

Let’s endure this.

Draper – FX – OU – double pike, overcooks it some with a bounce back – front full to front full, better control there, just a bit low – why is this a nascar themed routine and can we ask KJ for a refund – switch 1/2 to popa, good lift in popa – whip 1/2 to rudi, under control, just some knees. 9.900. Oh this floor rotation is going to be interesting.

Schoepfer – FX – OU – double tuck, fine – back 1.5 to layout, under control, just some soft knees here and there – switch ring to wolf hop full, a little under-rotated – double pike, small slide back. 9.875

Schoepfer has had one of her strongest and most confident days I;ve ever seen, but the scoring is making me hate it.

LaPinta – FX – OU – 3/1, keeps the landing under control, just a bit under-rotated – frotn full to layout, good height and shape in layout, a little dance out – split leap full to jump full – double tuck, some cowboy, a lunge back but keeps it in bounds. 9.875

Just saw a really strong punch front tuck full dismount from Centenary on beam but I assume she must have fallen earlier because NO ONE is happy.

Johnson – FX _ OU – front lay to rudi, slide back – double tuck, good legs together shape, bounce back – switch 1/2 to wolf full, good -a fine normal routine. 9.675. I assume some SV. Becuase otherwise that is not how this meet has been evaluated.

Deniz – FX – OU – whip to 2.5, hit with a crossover step – swithc ring to split full, short of split on the split full – rudi to split jump, under control, just some legs – oh the routine is already over. 9.900

TWU is done with a 194.050.

I understand all the two-pass routines this year because of COVID, but we need to work on this for next season. If you do only two passes, those two passes better be the shit. I want a double front. I want a DLO. I want a double Arabian.

Webb – FX – OU – I love this routine, this is the one routine this season that feels like vintage KJ – front 2/1, struggles to control the landing a bit with a stagger lunge out – 1.5 to front full, fine, a little shorter than her usual but under control – split leap 1.5, basically around? some feet – the fake-out double stag into it is not my fave, she can commit more to it – rudi to straight jump to death to resurrection, very nice.

9.950. Whatever.

49.500 eactly, which gives Oklahoma 198.175 and the highest single-meet score of the season. A good meet, a strong performance. Did well without having Ragan in the lineups. You wouldn’t have really known. The vault scoring was preposterous and floor was quite soft as well.

a;lskdfj;lkdsfj;lakdjf;laksf it’ll all even out when everyone gets to nationals aliwejf;lkjdf;adjf;lakjdhsf;lakshdf;ljakhdf;jasdhf. Soemtimes this sport, you guys….

FINAL:
Oklahoma 198.175
TWU 194.050
Centenary 189.875

    1. I think she put her hands down on her double tuck too? I’m not positive but when I first saw it I thought she did

  1. And every mistake on any apparatus is called a “stumble”by the announcer… small step, extra step, foot adjustment, hops of any size = stumble

    1. I like to call it an “error”. Stumble is what someone who drank too much does 🙂

  2. Ugh Adeline Kenlin is sooo pretty on beam. Still can’t believe she’s already in college.

  3. My browser says the LIU Sharks site in not secure, enter at your own risk, etc.

(After all, there were 13 shark related fatalities in 2020, 10 of which were confirmed to be unprovoked.)

  4. So glad I didn’t just hallucinate the „really nasty overshoot“ and you caught it too 😂

  5. Monique De La Torre doing commentary? NO way she has enough endurance for 4 events. She’ll crash in the last rotation.

    1. LIU’s twitter says they’re working on it but you can get the scores off their twitter page

  6. Unfortunately for LIU, they are not in the SEC. If they were in the SEC, those initial LIU vaults would have scored 9.975 easy.

    1. Or in the PAC, competing at Oklahoma, or now in the Big Ten. Scores are high everywhere!

  7. not only is it the year of the ox, but it’s also the year of the confusing judging splits

  8. The 9.425 from Cohen takes LIU to 46.875 on bars (we’ve seen worse this season).

stoppppp i don’t need reminders of osu’s catastrophic bars.

  9. Did she just say Hallie Mosett choreographed LIU’s floor! Yes! I love her choreography, she far outshined Val in the routines she composed while on the team.

    1. The Anna Li and Elyse Hopfner Hibbs routines were my all time favorites at UCLA. With Kramer’s close behind.

      Which routines did Mossett do?

  10. I remember routines that Hallie choreographed generally involved standing in one place a lot.

  11. I’m really liking this LIU floor rotation! And I enjoyed NHU’s too. In fact, I’m enjoying floor choreo in general this year (except for the usual powerhouses, funnily enough.)

    1. According to something I saw on twitter she was warming up a DLO and may have gotten injured on it.

      1. Can confirm this! Currently at metroplex and they had the trainer look at her ankle after a (very) short landing on a DLO in warmups

      2. Was going to say I hope she didn’t reinjure her bad one, but it wouldn’t be good to have two bad ones either. Poor kid, I hope it isn’t serious.

      3. DLO on floor or bars dismount?? Love Ragan, so talented, and glad she’s with OU!!

    1. Or maybe KJ actually slipped them some drugs? I’m beginning to think this is a real possibility

    1. Webb deserved it, stuck landing…unlike commentator stating “near stuck”, study the video closely!

    1. Lot of gymnasts close their feet together on a vault landing then salute but actually once a gymnast salutes her feet should not move more. Entry was great for Webb. Look at FL Skaggs vault entry yet judges didn’t seem to deduct much and much for her leg spread landing then moving feet together. A stick dies not involved movement of feet, no leaning forward, etc. Look at Raisman floor landings in Rio, movement. Just saying.

      1. The gif I was referring to was the one Spencer posted of Schoepfer, and that is not just bringing the feet together.

  12. >LaPinta – VT – OU – not her stronger Yfull,
    >lands short with a hop forward,
    >didn’t get a ton of block. 9.800.
    >If that’s 9.800, everyone is getting a 10 tonight.

    And…Your prediction came true!

  13. For those interested in a meet with team scoring below 200.0 …
    Is the 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT – [22] Boise State @ [21] Utah State
    link working for anyone?

    1. Link is working but they only go live during the actual rotations so no start of the meet or warmups. And they’ve thrown up a ‘commercial breal’ screen for the swap from VT to UB/vice versa. Not the strongest I’ve seen from BYU on bars but they are still really nice on this event. 49.2ish. USU is decent on vault as well- landings weren’t necessarily there but still decent 9.95 vaults.

  14. I don’t think Audrey Davis has her worn her mask right. Beautiful gymnast but come on at least pretend to try to wear it over your mouth

    1. From seeing it on screen/in movement, i would describe it a sheer, asymmetrical cape… If she sews, I imagine that was a creative outlet. I will give her credit for the team having nicely composed beam routines. I couldn’t help but thing their Beam and BYU’s FX routines were better than what I saw from Bama last night- meaning how routines were designed or choreographed not the athlete performances.

  15. But LSU last night….. 😂

It’s not gonna change yet. Just have to enjoy the gymnastics until the teams and coaches get tired of it.

    1. It won’t change until there’s a major rule change that “explains” why good teams are suddenly scoring lower, and even then it would be hard.

It’s too bad; COVID would have been a perfect reason to reset scoring.

  16. I’m sorry, I know we are not supposed to take it out on the gymnasts, but this is why I hate OU and was delighted by their meltdown meets. If 5 falls is what it takes to keep them from scoring a completely unwarranted 198+, then I’m rooting for the 5 falls. I’ve had enough with them. They get scored worse than any sec team, and don’t tell me KJ doesn’t make her little back room deals to blind the judges. I hope they fuck up regionals and miss nationals.

    1. (Audrey Davis is lovely, though) (I hate them less with Ragan on the sidelines. She is nothing but a low level chucker, and has just as bad of technique as Skinner. Better form, but shitty technique)

    2. Don’t know why you have to be so angry and make such angry comments, but I do agree that OU has been the most (consistently) overscored team in all of NCAA this year. I am just honestly really not impressed by what I am seeing this year from them. Webb is of course fab and Audrey Davis is also very good. Thomas is a strong bars worker and Stern a strong vaulter. I think with time, Kat will be a good Jade-type gymnast for them. However, there are way too many missing pieces at the front end of their line-ups (particularly floor) that I think should keep them from challenging. I also think that Ragan has been one of the more overscored gymnasts as well. She’s outstanding on beam, but I think her bars with that DLO and her floor with this year’s choreography is nothing at all special and has been overscored because of her big name.
