It’s going to get a little…uh…busy later in the day with a number of simultaneous and interesting meets to follow, so if I die, it’s your fault exclusively.

I’ll start with these first couple quad meets. Generally commenting on whatever happens to be interesting and being sure to keep an eye on what’s happening with Oklahoma.

So, um, things are happening with Florida. Lots of COVID protocols. Trinity and Schoenherr and Reed and Johnson-Scharpf are out, along with Jenny and Jeremy. Well, good thing they already have all the scores they need for NQS, I suppose. Because those are kind of some important gymnasts. Someone find Jazzy Foberg and tell her it’s vault o’clock.

Jamie Shisler on at least three events. Morgan Frazier in the all-around.

Meanwhile Oklahoma is still going to be Ragan-free today.

Vanessa Ferrari LIVES in this Oklahoma leo. Shoulder cutouts forever.

We have the NC State quad starting. GW goes close on an initial doubel tuck bars dismount but pulls it out.

We’ve got some split screen going. Jordan Draper solid front full to front full combo second pass – switch 1/2 to popa, good completion position – whip 1/2 to rudi, strong.

W&M with a fall on beam on a kickover front

Nice to see that DLO 1/1 dismount in the second spot for GW, bounce back.

9.825 for Draper.

Also joining Schoepfer’s routine after the first pass – 1.5 to layout, a little soft in layout – switch ring to wolf hop full to knee –

Really nice height from Shepard for NC State on her Yfull, just a little bounce up in place and some piking at the end.

Strong Ray from Deja Chambliss on bars for GW. Clean handstands and toe point there. Nice work.

9.875 for Schoepfer.

LaPinta – FX – OU – 3/1, hit, under control, leg crossing – front full to layout, good amplitude – pretty solid split positions – double tuck, didn’t get a huge lift there but pulls it around, slide back. 9.900

NC State 48.950 on vault. GW 48.700 on bars.

W&M has a kickover fall from Wiley in the 4th spot on beam.

Johnson – FX – OU – front lay to rudi, takes it too far with a lunge back OOB – double tuck, step back but keeps this one in bounds – switch 1/2 to wolf full, wolf full a little under-rotated –

Nice loso series from Costello from W&M – switch to switch combination, some better back leg positions – punch front is deep but held – 2/1, hop to the side. Good one.

Long wait to come up with a 9.700 for Johnson.

Deniz – FX – OU – whip to 2/1 and an odd mistake, not doing the 2.5, looked like a warmup pass where she does a 2/1 and then hops it around to do the extra 1/2 turn – but this was the meet – switch ring to split full, a bit short on split full – rudi to split jump is fine. Won’t have the SV there.

W&M 46.450 on beam.

The 9.575 for Deniz will mean the 9.700 OOB from Johnson will count. Will be an OU-low floor score.

Webb – FX – OU – front 2/1, solid, a little steppy but fine – back 1.5 to front full, good pass but stepped over the line and pulled it quickly right back – not going for the split 1.5 today, and I prefer today’s leap composition than what she has been doing – rudi to straight jump is quite nice.

9.925 for Webb on floor. But, like, didn’t she go OOB?

OU 49.225 on floor, which they won’t enjoy but it could have been worse.

Would be cool if the scores from the Towson quad worked, but alas…

Looks like a struggle-burger routine for Takagi of LIU on beam with three falls so far. For the previous set from Van Allen, I saw a 9.7 posted by one judge.

In Rotation 2 at NC State

Stern – VT – OU very nice Y1.5, nearly holds the stick long enough but doesn’t quite – some knees, solid work.

Levasseur – VT – OU – strong height on her Y1.5, medium shuffle forward. 9.875

Webb – VT – OU – not her stronger Y1.5 landing with a large lunge forward. She finished that one too early, very high, great form, and then couldn’t find a controlled landing. 9.875

We ruined LIU’s beam. It’s…not going great this time.

Schoepfer – VT – OU – a medium bounce forward on her tucked Y1.5, again great height. 9.850

Davis anchors vault for OU, doing just the full this time, finds a controlled landing with a little pike.

OU’s floor has been bumped up to 49.325 after Johnson’s score got raised to a 9.800. Huh?

49.350 for Oklahoma on vault after Davis’s 9.850 in the anchor spot. Not their best landings today as most people took full tenth (or more) steps/lunges.

Shepard finishes bars for NC State with a nice stick on a FTDT. Pretty routine.

These NC State commentators have not acknowledged once that a meet is going on. I am so glad the final gymnast for NC State didn’t stick after they kept talking about sticks being contagious. The no-research aesthetic is really compelling.

GW has to count a 9.125 on beam but gets a hit from Shek in the 6th spot for 9.700. Still a sub 48 rotation.

These commentators are not familiar with DD Breaux’s longevity. “33 or 34 years.” Not correct.

Man, I would love to spend more time blogging some non-famous meets if their broadcasts weren’t active viewer poison.

First rotation scores in Towson:
Towson 48.800
UNC 48.775
Pittsburgh 48.550
LIU 46.925

So not LIU’s beam performance of last weekend.

Second rotation scores at NC State:
Oklahoma 98.675
NC State 98.075
GW 96.425
W&M 94.950

Dear college baseball,

Stop.

Love, me

Ooooooh. The baseball just got moved to web streaming in favor of the Florida meet. We have arrived.

Florida’s lineup apocalypse starting now.

Rotation 1

Taylor – VT – UF – not a bad full, perfectly fine, large bounce back though and some piking. 9.675

Bunn – Ub – UK – blind to jaeger, quite close catch, loses some form – nice bail, good toe point – holds the stick on her dismount. 9.725

Baumann – VT – UF – didn’t have her do the 1.5 but a solid full, small slide back – some piking – legs on block. But fine. 9.825

(Meanwhile for OU, a good hit for Karrie Thomas leading off bars – one angled hs or two – DLO, nearly showed stick long enough.)

Davis – UB – UK – struggles on first hs, legs apart – blind full to 1/2 to jaeger, solid – bail, short of vertical and some loose back position – DLO, step forward. 9.750. That’s pretty high.

Levasseur holds bars stick on DLO, chest down.

Foberg – VT – UF – she lives – larger bounce back on her full – best layout shape of the three. 9.800

Nixon – UB – UK – maloney to bail, pretty solid leg positions – a bit rushed on final cast hs – huge FTDT, comes up somewhat chest down with a step forward. 9.875

Richards – VT – UF – solid yfull again small hop back – some shoulder angle so not the most height but comfortable layout shape. 9.850

Webb continues struggling with her bars dismount for OU. Weird release point, knows she can’t do the 1/2 out and falls on her double front.

Worley – Ub – UK – clear hip to tkatchev, hit – solid hs – pak, nice, very strong 1/2 turn position on low bar – a little rushed on final cast hs – FTDT, good stick. Nice one.

Lazzari – VT – UF – really nice stick on her full, some better height than Richards – good layout shape – still not the BIGGEST, so I’d take some distance there, but not a lot else to take. 9.875

Luksik – Ub – UK – good counter on Ray but it goes to pieces after that – can’t cast up and has to hop off. So a couple 9.7s will count for Kentucky here.

We didn’t see the routine on the stream (FUN!) but Trautman returned on bars for Oklahoma in the 5th spot for 9.875.

Davis – UB – OU – lovely piked jaeger and pak, nice 1/2 turn on low – strong cast hs position – double front, large cowboy with a lunge forward to try to get it around.

Skaggs – VT – UF – a slightly hilarious landing – she was just a little forward on her full landing and tried to hold onto the stick so far she leaned way forward and then had to slide. 9.775

Angeny – Ub – UK – jaeger to overshoot, solid work – bad angle for hs but they seem fine? – just a DLO, hit.

So Florida goes 49.125 on vault. Not a score they’ll make a highlight film about, but they got through perfectly fine. First time Florida has ever had no 10.0 starts in a vault lineup?

Davis finishes OU’s bars rotation with 9.825 for a 49.250 total, dropping Webb’s bars. They’ll need a solid beam now to get this into the mid-197s.

Angeny’s 9.775 gives Kentucky 48.975 on bars. Yeah, not their best. Kind of a sloppy rotation.

After 1: Florida 49.125, Kentucky 49.075

Really enjoying this interview with Jenny Rowland (who isn’t here) with highlights of a bunch of gymnasts who aren’t here. Also did Bridget just say Florida was #1 before the shutdown?

Some changes to Kentucky’s scores put them at 49.075 now.

This apparently is worthy of a 16 hour delay. And we missed Bunn on vault. It’s all going great!

Richards – UB – UF – good first hs – maloney, some legs into bail, another leg break there – shortish final cast hs – DLO, pikes it down some at the end with a hop forward. 9.775

9.800 for Bunn

Magnelli – VT – UK – handspring pike 1/2, nice height and open today – medium bounce back, some feet. Good work. 9.825

Gallentine – UB – UF – toe on to maloney to pak, lovely smooth work – hits her 1/2 turn position on low, just a little loose back – one rushed hs at the end – a little early on her DLO release but gets it around, small hop. 9.800

Patterson – VT – UK – handspring pike 1/2 from her as well – crossover step back, pretty solid control for her today, and a bigger version than Magnelli’s. 9.825

Lazzari – Ub – UF – tkatchev, hit – solid cast hs – toe on to pak, lovely legs together position – 1/2 turn on low, another solid vertical position – pretty solid final cast – FTDT is better, shuffle to the side. 9.850

Worley – UB – UK – pulls around her y1.5 – just a little underrotated and has to take a hop to the side. 9.825

Skaggs – UB – UF – great tkatchev to pak combination – perhaps a little late on 1/2 turn on low – strong cast hs on high – DLO, similar landing to her vault, a little short with a lunge-salute out of it. 9.925, so pretty forgiving on that landing.

Angeny – VT – UK – she just does land her Y1.5, too short with a hop back. 9.775

Clapper – UB – UF – a bit short on first hs – piked to piked jaeger, not the highest but hit – legs together on bail, a little short of vertical – short final cast hs – giant full to double tuck, hop forward. 9.875

Nixon – VT – UK – very strong full as usual – great height and layout position – small slide back. 9.850

Baumann – UB – UF – in the bars lineup – now that’s history – good first hs – blind to jaeger, hit, good toes – casts look solid, a little under on her bail position but slight – good cast hs – DLO, just pikes it down a little, step to the side. So, like, why is this the first we’re seeing of this? How many times, Alyssa.

9.925 is a total feelings score because it wasn’t 9.925 but it was a reasonable 9.850 set. Legitimately should be in the lineup if she’s consistently doing that.

Kentucky 49.100 on vault to Florida’s 49.325 on bars.

Meanwhile OU has a 9.850 from Dunn and Schoepfer on beam and now a hit from Deniz for 9.900.

After 2: Florida 98.500, Kentucky 98.200

Karrie Thomas up 5th for Oklahoma on beam – side somi, small squeeze to hold it – bhs loso, secure series, pretty extension – switch to switch to split, nice attention to back leg there – side aerial to full, holds stick with a lean

Rotation 3

Richards – BB – UF – hit full turn – bhs loso loso series, very secure – switch to straddle jump – slow before dismount combo – side aerial to full, stuck with little lean. 9.875

Bunn – FX – UK – double pike, very secure landing – 1.5 to front pike, another solid stick, just a little low – rudi, anotehr secure landing, chest low. Strong opener. 9.775. Bridget predicted a 9.9. Sweetie, she doesn’t go to Florida.

Webb finishes with a very secure hit for Oklahoma. A 9.900 gives OU a 197.425 total. They’ll take that as their 4th NQS score for now.

Skaggs – BB – UF – hit wolf turn – swtich to split, pretty – bhs loso series, securely landed – aerial, small lean – switch side, good lift – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.925

A couple score raises for Oklahoma to take the total to 197.475. Now it’s their 3rd score for NQS.

Haigis – FX – UK – rudi to loso, good extension on loso, just a little off line – double pike, solid landing, just some feet – 9.875

Lazzari – BB – UF – bhs loso loso, great extension, small adjustment on landing – switch to split, lovely – side aerial to full, small shuffle back. 9.925

OK it’s getting a little much now.

Clarke – FX – UK – punch front 2/1, jhust a little short with a small step – solid straddle positions – front lay to front full, hit – 1.5 with a bounce out dance out – rudi, hit. 9.850

Baumann – BB – UF – bhs loso, hit – switch to split, good switch position – aerial, excellent – switch 1/2, some feet, good 180 – 1.5, stuck landing. Nice. 9.950. Oftentimes there are a couple moments of soft knees or feet, even though she’s hitting 180s, that the judges will accumulate to say they amount to a half tenth

Davis – FX – UK – double pike, solid – switch side to popa, good elevation – 1.5 to layout, small hop – double tuck is short with a hop forward, so won’t be the highest. 9.750

Clapper – BB – UF – bhs loso loso, solid landing – switch to split, some feet but has improved her split positions since that elite year – side aerial to full, stuck.

10.000?

OK well wait now all of my explanation about Baumann’s beam scores doesn’t make sense because her extension is stronger than Clapper’s, who does have soft legs on a number of elements even when secure.

Angeny – FX – UK – double pike, solid – hits solid straddle position – 1.5 to layout, hit. Double back, some cowboy, hit.

Taylor – BB – UF – kickover to sissone, hit, some short back leg – bhs loso, small check – switch to switch, short back leg on both – bhs gainer full. Well, she’s not breaking into the lineup but a secure showing.

Georgia Auburn has started. Cashman on bars – tkatchev, hit – bail is floppy, leg break and an arch to bring it back – short cast hs on high – DLO. gets out of it with 9.775.

Worley – FX – UK – high full in, secure landing – switch ring to switch side – finishes with a secure double tuck. 9.925

Schild hits for georgia in the 2nd spot. One of her more solid bars routines. The Ray is lovely, some leg breaks elsewhere and piking on the dismount. 9.825

Trinity’s not here? Well, we’ll score everyone else like she’s Trinity so it’s fine.

After 3: Florida 148.175, Kentucky 147.475

Florida 49.675 on beam, ties a program beam record. Because that was definitely the best Florida beam you’ve ever seen.

Roberts – UB – Georgia – good first hs – toe on to maloney to bail, hits vertical, like her amplitude on the maloney – a bit of loose back getting up on the final cast hs – DLO, small hop. Good. 9.850

Wtason – VT – Auburn – her best y1.5 of the season – nearly shows a stick but salutes quickly out of it – 9.900

De Jong – UB – Georgia – shortish first hs – toe on to Ray, nice height, some elbows on catch – struggles on her bail this week, short of vertical and a leg break – better final cast hs – DLO, deep with a hop forward. 9.775

Gobourne – VT – Auburn – really strong y1.5, just a little under with a small step back and then a little slide salute. 9.925.

Nguyen – UB – Georgia – good first hs – pak, solid, small leg break – nice cast hs on low – maloney to inbar gienger and falls. Really low on gienger this week, couldn’t catch. A couple 9.7s counting now.

4th Rotation in Florida starting now. Kentucky has a leg-up break from haigis on beam.

Stevens – VT – Auburn – yfull, solid, small hop back, some piking throughout

Oakley – UB – Georgia – hits first hs – higgins to piked jaeger, nice – short on the next cast hs – hits pak – agasin some arch on 1/2 turn on low – good final cast – FTDT, bounce back. Not her strongest, survived with the hit they needed. 9.825

Clapper starts floor for Florida, pretty solid double tuck, a little steppy at the end – back 1.5 to layout to stag, a low pass but under control – switch side to popa, fine – double pike, step back OOB. 9.700

Magnelli – BB – Kentucky – nice bhs bhs loso series, very solid – crooked on her switch side position – 1.5, hop forward. 9.825

Auburn 49.225 to Georgia 49.050

Skaggs – FX – UF – wolf double, solidly done – rudi to split jump, some travel – split leap full to split jump full, just does pull that around – 1.5 to layout, nice rise in layout. 9.875

Nixon – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso, solid, small quiver of front foot – switch to split – aerial to split jump, arm wave correction working out of it – bhs 1.5, a bit short, step back. 9.750

Richards – FX – UF – DLO, under control on landing – 1.5 to layout, keeps her layout position – controlled landing – double tuck, some sliding back. 9.875

Second rotation started at Georgia/Auburn – nice secure vault landing for De Jong. Well done.

Clean hit beam for Bunn fo rKentucky, small step on dismount. 9.925

Lazzari – FX – UF – double pike, a larger bounce back – clean layout in combo pass – double tuck, a bit short, step forward. 9.825

Rachel Baumann also hangs onto the stick on her yfull. More distance than De Jong but also a little more pike and lean to hang onto landing. 9.825

Worley – BB – UK – cat to switch side, comfortable – aerial to bhs loso, hit securely, some knees – 1.5 dismount, stuck. 9.950. Well, consistent.

A Baumann – FX – UF – double tuck, stuck landing, very good – 1.5 to front full, just a bit crossover steppy – switch 1/2 to popa, good height – double pike, good chest up, some step. 9.950

LSU/Alabama starting now. Missouri/Arkansas shortly.

Shallon with just a smaller slide back on vault.

Johnson – UB – LSU – maloney to bail, a little short of vertical on bail, good legs together – hit cast hs – toe on – DLO, high, holds the stick.

Waligora with a larger lunge forward for Alabama on vault with her 1.5.

Taylor will anchor Florida on floor – double tuck, under control – finishes double pike, deep with a lunge back.

Soraya Hawthorne just vaulted a Y1.5 for Georgia and not bad! A little short, nearly holds the stick. That will work.

Bridget Dean hits bars. Some crazy legs in the DLO but finds the stick.

Gobourne holds the stick on her FTDT dismount on bars.

Blanco – VT – Alabama – pretttty y1.5 – holds the stick. Just a bit of knees, very nicely done. 9.925

Georgia 49.325 on vault to Auburn 49.475 on bars. It’s…getting weird.

Olivia Dunne with a solid DLO to finish her bars, small lean forward.

Graber – VT – Alabama – hits her Y1.5 – great distance, kind of funny landing with a small step back and then adjusting to it with a step forward. 9.875

Bryant – UB – LSU – small loose back in first hs – jaeger, hit – bail, very clean, good vertical, legs together – blind to double front, small step. Nice.

Florida finishes 197.500, so I guess it didn’t matter that no one was here? Kentucky 196.875, also a very useful score for them.

Quinn – VT – Alabama – pulls out a strong stick on her y1.5, deep and a bit of knees, but strong landing. Alabama is on so far.

Shchennikova – UB – LSU – shortish first hs – Ray is good into pak, clean positions – rushes 1/2 turn on low – better cast hs on high bar – DLO is the same, piking, a little rushed in showing the stick, step-salute. 9.900.

Adams – VT – Alabama – still can’t deal with her y1.5, short and falls, hand down.

Durante – UB – LSU – good first hs – blind to jaeger, high, a little crooked – pak, a bit too much arch but fine – nice 1/2 turn position on low bar – strong final cast hs – FTDT, finds the stick.

9.875. Her conntinuing to score lower than Shchennikova is going to kill me a little bit.

Alabama had a 49.450 on vault before Adams so won’t mind that fall so much.

After 1: Alabama 49.450, LSU 49.375

OK do we have a meet?

With UCLA/Utah starting soon as well, I’m going to miss a lot tonight, and we’re all just going to be OK with that.

Watson is having a bit of a wobbleburger in the beam leadoff spot for Auburn.

De Jong with a hit double pike to start her floor routine, a hair short – 1.5 to layout – split leap full to wolf full, nicely done – double tuck is a struggle, lands chest down and bounces back OOB.

Kennedy Hambrick stuck a Y1.5 for Arkansas. Just some knees at the end and some direction. OK 9.975 vault scores went higgggghhh.

Aria Brusch just had a back tuck fall on beam for Auburn following a 9.6 from Watson.

I love that Alicia thinks literally every bars routine should get a 10 and on vault she’s like, “mmmmm, mine was better.”

Looks like we have another step back OOB for Georgia on floor. Things are getting messy in this third rotation. Oh messes, I love you so much.

Rotation 2- LSU/Alabama

Durante – VT – LSU – that’s like a legit vault! Nice Yfull, good distance, just a little piking and small movement on landing. 9.850

Waligora – UB – Alabama – nice high jaeger, some angle in overshoot position – angle in final cast hs – DLO 1/1, lands short with a minor hop forward. 9.800

Auburn gets a really important beam hit out of Hollingsworth, who had been struggling there.

Shchennikova – VT – LSU – not the y1.5 we’ve been seeing lately – short and deep landing, large lunge back to save it. 9.775

Graber – UB – Alabama – gienger, nice and high, legs t the end – hits next cast – bail, good toe point, quickly out of position, perhaps a bit late on final cast – holds landing on FTDT, leg stagger.

Arenas – VT – LSU – pretty yfull in teh air, good amplitude and layout shape, medium shuffle back

Machado – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, legs on pak, directly into toe on to van leeuwen, solid – short cast hs – toe full, a bit late, into double tuck, hop back

Edwards – VT – LSU – huge height on her Y1.5, good work, hop forward, not large, solid.

Adams – Ub – Alabama – maloney to pak very clean – van leeuwen, good legs – full to double tuck, lunge back on double tuck was the main thing.

Johnson – VT – LSU – deeper on her DTY this week, not the leg brush of two weeks ago but a crunched down landing with a step.

Bryant anchors for LSU with the handspring pike 1/2 we expect, huge and perfect, slide back.

Luisa Blanco got 9.950 for the previous rotuine with a stuck FTDT.

Doggette – UB – Alabama – nice counter on her tkatchev and strong pak but struggles on the low bar – has to recast to get up for her 1/2 turn – DLO, small slide back. Wanted more from the anchor again.

Now UCLA/Utah is about to start.

Both Alabama and LSU 49.325 on the second rotation.

Isa starts on vault for Utah, clean full, small slide back. 9.825

Campbell – UB – UCLA – maloney to bail, a bit of legs in bail but fine – short cast hs on high – double front, pace back. 9.775

O’Keefe – VT – Utah – solid landing on her yfull, good distance, not her biggest, chest a little forward. 9.800

Steele – Ub – UCLA – short first hs – maloney to pak, smooth – 1/2 turn on low bar, slow but a little short – csome cast hs deductions in here – DLO, whippy, slide back. 9.750

Stanhope – VT – Utah – pretty solid Y1.5 – medium pace forward, some knees . 9.875

Third rotation in Alabama is also starting.

Ulias – UB – UCLA – toe 1/2 to jaeger, pretty – good cast hs – toe on to bail, loses some leg form, short of vertical – very strong cast hs on high – stalder to double tuck, a bit smoother, deepish landing on double tuck but improvement over last time. 9.875

Hall – VT – Utah – short Y1.5 this time, deep landing, lunge back. 9.625. Remember when Shchennikova just did the same thing for 9.775?

Klopfer was solid on beam for Alabama, which means 9.900.

Esparza – UB – UCLA – good first hs – maloney to pak, very clean – nice cast hs – van leeuwen, legs together – one short cast hs – DLO, legs apart, deeper landing, holds the stick with a lean. 9.800

Burch – VT – Utah – great stick on her Y1/5 – a couple things to take, legs apart on block and knees in the air, but very nice. 9.975. So that’s quite high.

Dennis – UB – UCLA – good first hs – maloney to bail, nice vertical, a little quick out of the position – shortish cast hs on high – DLO, holds the stick. Nice one. 9.900

Rucker – VT – Utah – overcooks her Y1.5 quite a lot, large lunge forward. So it won’t really be the score Utah wanted with the Hall and Rucker vaults. Gets a gift for 9.825 there.

Elena Arenas under control second up on floor for LSU, just some knees in front 2/1 – slide back on double pike

Frazier – Ub – UCLA – short first hs – maloney to pak is good – hip angle on cast hs and has to recast on low bar – van leeuwen is good – short cast hs on high – DLO, slide back. 9.750

Up and down rotations for both teams will leave Utah at 49.300 and UCLA at 49.100

LSU starts with a couple 9.825s on floor. Alabama with a 9.900 and 9.850 on beam. Adamas solid in the third spot on beam for Alabama, small slide back on 1.5.

Shchennikova – FX – LSU – front 2/1 with a large lunge forward out of it – 1.5 to front full, again struggles more to control the landing today – good switch ring and switch 1/2 – rudi to split jump combination, also lots of travel. That was like a Jesolo floor routine. 9.750.

Mikayla Magee has fallen on beam, so day disqualified.

Graber – BB – Alabama – bhs lay-pike, very solid – swtich to split 3/4, large break, arm wave to hold it on the beam – cat to kickover to scale, holds it – gainer full, hit.

Hawthorne breaks a connection on beam for Georgia, which could be significant.

Ballard – FX – LSU – DLO, pretty solid, chest a bit down – 1.5 to layout is a real fight, has to tuck around the layour and lands quite deep – switch ring to switch 1/2, short of switch 1/2 position – short double pike, lunge forward. 9.725. LSU really being held up on floor here with what could have been lower scores.

Second rotation Utah/UCLA starting.

Tratz – VT -UCLA – some better control on yfull today, small slide back, some piking. 9.825

Doggette – BB – Alabama – wobble on her series

Paulson – UB – Utah – maloney to pak, clean – a bit short on cast hs on high and giant full position, finds stick on double tuck.

Ooof Nguyen is abck on beam for Georgia but struggles on her candle mount and goes over the wrong way, has to lift herself back up.

Poston – VT – UCLA – handspring pike 1/2 – bestter chest up position but also a larger slide back, those things tend to go hand in hand – 9.825

Sabado -UB – Utah – good first hs – blind to jaeger, good toes – shortish cast hs – toe on to bail, also shy of vertical there – better cast hs on high, nice – DLO, feet, slide back. 9.825

Frazier – VT – UCLA – better full in several respects from her, smaller hop back, a half tenth this time – better amplitude, still a little pike but less than we’ve been seeing. 9.875 still a lot though.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – small correction on bhs loso loso series – switch to beat, good – 9.975 with a check. Cool cool.

Burch – UB – Utah – hits jaeger, flexed feet, good handstand out of it – legs together on bail – borderline final cast – DLO, overdoes it, boounce back and additional step

Dennis – VT – ULCA – giant full and what is now her trademark near-stick-lean-run-away I guess. 9.800. The running away is not helping her score.

Bryant – FX – LSU – double front, hit, some lunge out – front lay to rudi, solid – switch 1/2 to popa, nice rise, couldn’t tell on the feet this week but looked like a nice pass – front 2/1, hit this time.

O’Keefe – Ub – Utah – nice maloney to pak – short final cast on high – double arabian dismount, hop back – 9.875

Campbell – VT – UCLA – strong full, great position and distance, small step back, and then an additional step as she salutes, so won’t quite be the score they want.

Le Blanc – UB – Utah – shorter first hs – blind to jaeger, feet but hit, uinto overshoot – a couple short cast hs – DLO, step back

UCLA will stick with 5 on vault again for a 49.175.

Georgia is trying to save some semblance of a score here and gets a hit from Baumann in the 5th spot on beam.

Isa – UB – Utah – Ray, hit – bail, clean vertical – giant full to DLO, finds the stick. I saw a short handstand or two in there, but good set. 9.875

So Alabama went 49.400 on beam to LSU’s 49.250 on floor. Alabama leads by .225 going to the last event.

It’s 49.225 for Utah on bars (not enough dismounts), but gains a little more ground on UCLA.

Oakley finishing for Georgia on beam – gainer bhs bhs loso, very solid – split jump to split ring jump, pretty work – gainer full, step back. Nice finish, but won’t be a fab score for Georgia today.

Gobourne – FX – Auburn – open double tuck, very solid, under control, chest up – switch side to wolf full – front full to layout, gets a bit low, step on landing – double pike, nailed.

Desiderio starting the 4th rotation for LSU on beam – bhs loso series, very solid – aerial with a check – cat leap to gainer full, stuck. 9.875

Gaskins – FX – Alabama – double pike, slide back – a little rushed on that wolf position – switch ring and switch 1/2 are nice – front tuck through to double tuck, chest down but under control.

Gobourne goes 9.925 to get Auburn to 197.050 to Georgia’s 196.100

Durante – BB – LSU – bhs loso series, nicely done – aerial, keeps arms moving into split jump – switch, attempted connection but breaks it with arm waves, cat with a check into side aerial to full, well off the side of the beam with a major lunge – she got rattled when she didn’t have a dance series and it all fell apart from there – 9.625. Don’t know how they got it that high with no dance combo?

Rotation 3 starting in utah. Hit leadoff for Burch. One check on dance – stuck gainer full.

Mitchell – FX – Alabama – double pike, overdoes it, large lunge back – switch – pulls around wolf 1.5 to wolf 1.5 combo – front tuck through to double tuck, more secure

Andres – FX – ULCA _ back 2.5 to front tuck, under control, just some crossed legs – final switch 1/2 to split full was a bit under – 9.825

Bryant – BB – LSU – aerial to bhs, hit – swtich to straddle 1/4, also comfortable – front, small check, pulls it back – full turn, small correction – stuck dismount. 9.875

Stanhope – BB – Utah – switch mount to switch leap is hit – bhs full to bhs, solid – 1.5 dismount, step forward. 9.775. Oh, they have her drinking tea. Is that supposed to tell me she’s English? Very creative.

Olsen – FX – Alabama – double double, short with a hop forward – split leap 1/5 to split 1/2, some feet. 1.5 throught o 2/1, hit – double pike, hit, chest a bit forward –

Wright – FX – UCLA – larger lunge forward out of opening pass – good straddle position out of her split – 1.5 to layout, a little low but solid. 9.875. OK so floor scoring. Keep an eye on that.

Dean – BB – LSU – side aerial to bhs, small check this time, usual legs – switch to split jump, comfortable – aerial to beat jump – side aerial to full, stuck. Good. 9.875

Randall – BB – Utah – bhs to loso, small correction – beat to sheep, hit – rulfova a little off line, pulls it back – stuck dismount. 9.850

Doggette – FX – Alabama – high double tuck, some sliding – gets a little soft legged in middle pass – split leap full to split jump full, somewhat under ont he jump – double pike, chest down, shuffle forward

Tratz – FX – UCLA – double pike, solidly under control – switch ring to split leap full, nice – 1.5 to layout, pretty solid – double tuck, good, some of her better landing control – 9.900

Johnson – BB – LSU – full turn – bhs loso series, an arm wavbe and a second small arm wave but keeps it on – switch to switch 1/2, nice elevation – kickover, great – 2/1, slide back. 9.875 –

Isa – BB – Utah – candle mount, hit, good – bhs los loso, a lean correction this time, brings it back – straddle to straddle 1/4, quite nice – gainer full, stuck.

graber – FX – Alabama – full in, very good, strong landing – solid wolf 1.5, pulls it around – front tuck through to double pike, jussst tries to keep those toes down, good. 9.975 is something.

Frazier – FX – UCLA – whip through to double tuck, secure landing – double pike, bounce back – gets a little bouncy crazy on her dance combo – 9.850

Shchennikova – BB – LSU – candle mount, leaning but shows us the vertical – bhs loso, smooth – onodi, pretty – switch and split, nice – aerial, small check – full turn, slight hesitation – gainer full, stuck. Nice work.

O’Keefe – Bb – Utah – aide aerial to loso, very solid – switch to split leap, excellent positions – side aerial to full, leans to hold the stick. excellent work. 9.900

Blanco – FX – Alabama – double pike, under control – switch ring to switch 1/2 to popa, the switch 1/2 actually looked a little low this time – doubel tuck, nailed –

Campbell – FX – UCLA _ front 2/1, slightly under with a step – split leap full to popa, lovely completion of those leaps – doubel tuck, very strong – front lay to front full, hit. Very strong routine. 9.950

Anoher 9.975 for Blanco. Scores got cracktastic for Alabama at the end of floor there – I’ll have thoughts when there’s a free moment

Paulson – BB – Utah – side aerial to loso, off line and falls. She has been kind of struggling on beam this season, which means it will be a merely OK beam score for Utah of 49.250.

Dennis – FX – UCLA – front loso through to double tuck, major lunges back and OOB (but will it be a 10?!?!?!?!?!) – and after Utah just gave them an opening… – front full to layout, small hop – a little indistinct in those split landing positions this time – rudi to split jump was the best it has been, of course it would be on this one.

So this one is closer than one might have though, with Utah leading by just a tenth going to the last rotation, though utah has the major rotation advantage there.

Arkansas is finishing up with Carter on floor, clean double back – switch 1/2 to split full, nice – double pike, short with a step forward. Nice routine though.

Missouri finished with 196.850, which is the score they needed to Arkansas’s 197.350. I’m hearing the scoring was absolutely cracktastical as well, but I can’t say I say enough of it to have an opinion. Huge number for Arkansas.

FINAL: Alabama 197.725, LSU 197.325

This will be a controversial result, but LSU didn’t bring it, especially on vault and floor, but in the landings all day long. Alabama got home-scoring held up, certainly, but they also nailed vault, and can honestly say they were stronger today.

After Blanco’s 39.825 and Hambrick’s 39.750, I’ve got some scoring records to update soon.

Anyway, to the final rotation of UCLA and Utah.

Nia Dennis ran off the floor after floor, not in a vault way, and now she’s out of the beam lineup.

Poston – BB – UCLA – beat to split 3/4, holds it with a small arm wave – bhs bhs loso, very secure, some flexed feet – full turn, slight hesitation – 1.5, stuck landing. really solid work for her. 9.875

Gilstrap – FX – Utah – well at least she’s back – double tuck, great foot positions, under control – rudi, strong landing – I def thought Sam was going to call Despacito a “classic” – great leap positions – front lay to front full, just a little loose in the legs there. Just put her at the end of the lineup and give her a 10 and shut up about it. 9.875

Sakti – BB – UCLA – moved her down in the lineup – standing loso loso very solid this week, good height and control – switch to split, that switch was more tentative though – side somi, hit – side aerial to full, stuck. Good good. 9.900

Paulson – FX – Utah – front lay to front full to stag, hit – 2.5, a little steppy but not too bad – switch to split leap full, solid 180s – 1.5 to layout, hit. 9.900

Frazier – BB – UCLA – switch to switch, hit – aerial, keeps arms moving into back tuck, very small lean – side aerial, strong – gaienr layout full dismount, a little short with a slide back. Did she just body slam herself after beam? 9.925

Stanhope – FX – Utah – full in, solid landing, but may have got caught in the mat because she was a little steppy after that – double tuck, very strong work – switch side to wolf full, very clean positions – 1.5 to layout, a bit lungey on that landing. 9.875

This is actually getting pretty exciting!

Shapiro – BB – UCLA – SHAPIRO TIME – bhs bhs loiso, large break, bend at the hips, brings it back – switch to switch, pretty solid leap positions – side aerial, quite strong – long oause before dismount, gainer full. After the major series break, that was legit. 9.725

Rucker – FX – Utah – nailed her full in, good – loses her wolf position in the final element of that three dance combo – front lay to front full, solid work – 9.875

Esparza – BB – UCLA – full turn – bhs loso, very solid – switch to straddle 1/4, good split position – aerial was slightly off line but kept moving into beat jump – side aerial to full, stuck – 9.875

O’Keefe – FX – Utah – double pike, bounce back – front lay to front full, good height – switch ring to split leap 1.5, exceptional – 1.5 to front tuck, she was intending lay there? A bit low on that pass had to tuck.

Campbell – BB – UCLA – wolf double, solid – bhs loso with a check, turns it into arm choreo – switch 1/2, hit – swtich, small hesitation into split jump – gainer full, stuck. Good.

Judges talking aobut O’Keefe with that tuck instead of layout on her last pass. 9.750 for O’Keefe

Campbell 9.850.

Soloski – FX – Utah – now needs a hit to win – DLO, solid landing – switch 1/2 to split full, good positions – she needs 9.825 to win the meet – front lay to front full, comfortable – back 1.5 to layout, no trouble.

That will clinch the meet for Utah, but closer than it was supposed to be.

9.925 for Soloski gives Utah 197.225 final to UCLA’s 197.100

Utah wins, though I think UCLA will be more pleased almost? UCLA beat expectations here, got to a 197 and looked a lot more comfortable on beam. At least graduating from middle school dance to high school dance. Utah just a bit deeper and a bit fuller but didn’t deliver in the first few rotations the way they can, throwing in just enough errors to keep things interesting. Lower scores than Florida, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Arkansas today (while we can talk about the judging….a lot….) is not what Utah wanted.
