In the first meet, Oklahoma is looking for anything better than 197.800, which would allow them to take sole possession of first place and bump Florida to second. This is Iowa State’s second competition of the weekend, and after a non-counting score earlier, they’re looking for something in the 196s to count, though they’re in a pretty safe ranking spot, so it’s not a huge deal.

No Audrey Davis in the lineups for Oklahoma today.

Rotation 1

Turner – VT – ISU – good height on her yfull, medium bounce back, small piking, good. 9.775

Trautman – UB – Oklahoma – Davis “injured slightly during warmups” – maloney to pak, small leg breaks – slightly late 1/2 turn on low – good final cast hs – DLO, stuck. Great finish. 9.875

Hong – VT – ISU – full instead of y1.5 – slightly larger bounce back than Turner, but also less piking. 9.800

Levasseur – UB – Oklahoma – definitely thought they were introducing her as Ronald Reagan instead of saying she went to Ronald Reagan high school – loose back in first hs – maloney to bail, good legs together, a little flat on maloney – DLO, also sticks. 9.850

Boychuk – VT – ISU – better full than earlier in the week – another bounce back – good layout shape. 9.775

Draper – UB – OU – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, hit, some feet – pak, legs apart – 1/2 turn on low – blind to double front, step forward. One of her better routines handstand-wise. 9.875

Steinmeyer – VT – ISU – large lunge forward out of her Y1.5 this time – good shape

Webb – UB – OU – a bit tight on first hs – great pak as always – van leeuwen, legs together – not quite hitting her handstands – but it looks like she has the double front 1/2 out back together, near stick, lean to the side to try to hold the stick, a step-salute. 9.925 a little high there.

Maxwell – VT – ISU – very good Y1.5 – stuck landing – not the very highest Y1.5 you’ll see but solid form and a comfortable real-life stick, 9.925

Smith – UB – OU – Ray to pak, very good – pretty solid 1/2 turn position on low – good cast hs on high – DLO, that usual bit of whippiness but a stick. Strong work. 9.875

De Jesus – VT – ISU – medium bounce forward on her Y1.5, a bit of knees, good. 9.875

Thomas – UB – OU – hecht over low bar – toe 1/2 to jaeger, hit, a little lower than her usual but fine – bail, solid vertical position – somewhat short in a couple hs – DLO, sticks, came in a little deep on the landing but held it. 9.900

After 1: Oklahoma 49.450, Iowa State 49.175

Oklahoma 49.450 for a strong bars performance. Really good landings this week with a number of sticks. Pretty much an accurate total score to me, even though I feel like some of those scores should be switched. Like, those were the right scores, you just assigned them to the wrong people.

Iowa State not quite as strong on vault as we saw earlier in the week—one fewer Y1.5 today and not as much landing control on some of the other Y1.5s—but still a nationally competitive vault performance that keeps them over 196 pace.

Rotation 2

LaPinta – VT – OU – hits a yfull, slightly short, chest forward with a small step – some piking. 9.750

Langkamp – UB – ISU – piked jaeger, a little low but hit – bail, saves it with a pretty significant arch, pulls it back – slightly loose in final hs – DLO, small slide back. 9.725

Stern – VT – OU – a larger lunge forward on her Y1.5 today – good distance. 9.850

Maxwell – UB – ISU – blind, late, into jaeger, hit – short cast hs on high – hits bail, a little hip angle – better final cast hs – DLO, bounce back. 9.800

Levasseur – VT – OU – strong Y1.5 – small hop forward, good height. 9.900

Basuel – UB – ISU – blind to jaeger, good height there – bail, some hip angle in the air, gets to handstands in the end – short cast hs on high -giant full to double tuck, stuck. 9.725

Webb – VT – OU – medium hop forward and then an additional step salute, so two steps to take there, won’t be her highest score, but good distance and form. 9.900

Horowitz – UB – ISU – good first hs – blind to jaeger, good height – short cast hs on high – bail, shows tow point, gets to vertical – a couple short casts in here – DLO, nearly holds the stick, leans, ends up taking a small hop. 9.850

Schoepfer – VT – OU – full-tenth hop forward out of her tucked Y1.5 today – good height, flexed feet. 9.850

Vella-Wright – UB – ISU – good first hs – maloney to pak, great Pak – arch in cast hs on low – van leeuwen, solid – very short final cast hs – FTDT, deep landing with a bound forward. 9.850 is surprisingly high

Trautman – VT – OU – similar landing to Webb – a bounce forward on her Y1.5 and then an additional step salute, so two steps to take. Great power of course. 9.850

De Jesus – Ub – ISU – short first hs – Ray to overshoot, good height on overshoot – just a couple rushed handstands – DLO, excellent height, small hop forward. 9.900

After 2: Oklahoma 98.800, Iowa State 98.300

Oklahoma with a 49.350 on vault. It’s still a high score, but they did not bring the landings today, most gymnasts taking full-tenth hops on their Y1.5s. Iowa State 49.125 on bars, which continues the pace they were looking to set.

Rotation 3

Steinmeyer – BB – ISU – if this dude says “hits leadoff” again – kickover to beat jump, under control – bhs loso series, small lean, knees in bhs – switch to straddle 1/4, a little tight in those positions – 1.5 dismount, good landing. 9.825

“So good to get that leadoff hitter on base.” Murder me.

Draper – FX – OU – double pike, slide back – front full to front full, control, some knees – switch 1/2 to popa, good lift in popa position, slight control issue on landing – 1/2 to rudi, a bit of leg crossing, another controlled landing. 9.825

Turner – BB – ISU – candle mount – VERY DIFFERENT AND VERY UNIQUE – bhs bhs loso series, secure, slightly soft knees – switch to straddle 1/4, good height – hesitation finishing full turn – gainer pike, hop. 9.825

Schoepfer – FX – OU – double tuck, good chest up, a little steppy – back 1.5 to layout, solid, not super high but under control – switch ring to wolf hop full – double pike, again nearly secure, small step adjustments. 9.875

Boychuk – BB – ISU – bhs bhs loso, larger wobble, bend to the side – side somi, holds it – cat leap to switch 1/2, short of position, small check – gainer full, hit. 9.750

Johnson – FX – OU – so do OU’s floor scores just not exist? – lay to rudi, hit, controlled step, just a little sideways – double tuck, can’t completely control the landing with a bounce up – switch 1/2 to wolf full, around – 9.825

De Jesus – BB – ISU – bhs loso, quick and high – straddle jump to sheep jump, pretty solid closure on sheep, legs slightly apart – cat leap to side aerial, hit – 2/1, stuck, some leg crossing. Good one. 9.925

La Pinta – FX – OU – 3/1, pretty solid, steps around the final 1/8 of turn with a little slide – front full to layout, has to arch around the layout with some soft position – split leap full to jump full, hits 180s, some flexed feet – double tuck, shorter, chest down, lunge forward. 9.775

Semple – BB – ISU – bhs loso series, chest somewhat down, check – full turn, over turns slightly – cat leap to switch 1/2 to beat, secure – switch to split looks good – side aerial to full, small slide back. 9.875

Deniz – FX – OU – whip to 2.5, hit but a large lunge forward into the corner – switch rign to split full, a little low on that split full – rudi to split jump, pretty solid control on that. 9.875. Thought that was pretty similar to the 9.775s that just happened.

Horowitz – BB – ISU – “batting cleanup” DUDE, we get it, you wish this were baseball. Sorry? – full turn, good – bhs loso, fall, and the fall goes very crazy as she does a drive-by footing of the beam and runs away – kickover, a larger check, she sat that down on the beam last time.

49.100 will keep ISU on pace.

Webb – FX – OU – front 2/1, pretty solid control – back 1.5 to front full, good form, higher than most of the people who do that pass – switch 1/2 to split full, I’m glad they went back to that and ditched the stag to 1.5 from earlier in the season – rudi to straight jump. Very strong routine. 9.950

After 3: Oklahoma 148.150, Iowa State 197.500

Iowa State through beam with five hits this time. De Jesus a highlight. Oklahoma 49.300 on floor. It was fine, but other than Webb’s performance, it was a little blah. This lineup needs people like Smith or Trautman to be competitive at nationals.

OU would need to go over 49.650 on beam for this to be a counting score, so not that likely.

Score adjustments – Semple got bumped up to 9.875 and Bell Johnson up to 9.825

Rotation 4

Dunn – BB – OU – bhs bhs loso and falls, weird to see from her – very low on those elements, landed short – finishes gainer full with hop back

Langkamp – FX – ISU – whip to double tuck, slide back – split leap full to popa, a little short of split position – front lay to 1/2 to split, loses leg shape in that 1/2 – double pike, short land, lunge forward. 9.775

Schoepfer – BB – OU – bhs loso series, hit, very slight knee bend in bhs – side aerial through to switch to switch, nicely done – 1.5, lunge back – great until the dismount. 9.825

Boychuk – FX – ISU – judge tells her to step off – now she starts for real with tornado sirens – double pike, hit, a bounce up on landing – 1.5 to layout, hit, slightly low on layout – switch 1/2 to popa, popa position was nice – double tuck, struggles on landing, large bounce back and OOB. 9.625

Woodard – BB – OU – side aerial to bhs, very solid – kickover to beat, slightly awkward landing on the beat with a step back – switch to split leap, good 180 positions shown – side aerial to full, short landing, step forward. 9.800

Steinmeyer – FX – ISU – front 2/1, controls landing well – switch side to popa, nice popa, hits 180 and clear landing position – 1.5 to layout, a little low on layout but good form maintained – double pike, under control, chest down. 9.825

Smith – BB – OU – bhs loso, small lean correction – aerial, very nice – straddle 1/2 to swingdown, lovely – bhs gainer full, hop back. 9.875

Diab – FX – ISU – front 2/1 to layout, very good, crisp layout position – split leap full to popa – front lay to front full, shows stick there, waits to leap – rudi to loso. Excellent. 9.900.

Apparently the scores have been “low” today. Incorrect.

Thomas – BB – OU – after a judging delay – side somi, hit – bhs loso series, good amplitude – switch to switch to split jump, good 180s – side turn, good – side aerial to full, stuck. A couple almost-hesitations in there, very good. 9.950

Maldonado – FX – ISU – front 2/1 to front tuck, almost like a front 2/1 is easy for her – rudi, bounce back – switch side to popa, good height – double pike, stuck landing. Excellent. 9.925

Webb – BB – OU – bhs loso series, good – cat leap to aerial, squeezes to avoid any movement – switch to switch, good splits but a wobble on it, landing on one foot and being like, “that’s how I do it, whatever” side aerial to full, bounce back. 9.875

De Jesus – FX – ISU – double tuck, bounce back (or I mean “perfect landing”) 1.5 to front loso – switch side to popa – double pike, hit, slide back.

OU 49.325 on beam for a total of 197.475, which is like what peasants score and won’t count for them. That means Florida and Oklahoma will remain tied in Monday’s rankings,a nd the edge shifts to Florida, which has the lower score to drop at conference champs.

De Jesus gets a 9.900 (BUT TEH SCORES ARE SO LOW) which puts ISU on a season high 196.825, which will move them ahead of Missouri in the rankings.

Elsewhere, in the in-progress rankings, West Virginia currently sits in 38th, so it’s getting to be crunch time. WVU needs to drop a 195.175 with today’s performance, and drop it by a lot. So these 48.9s in the first rotations are keeping them on track to do that.

I haven’t seen a link to live scores for Stanford. I don’t know what I expected.

West Virginia is now through five beam hits. A big deal.

Evan is welcoming us to the Stanford meet. 99% of why I’m here.

Stanford/Oregon St Rotation 1

Zeng – VT – Stanford – oh it did not go great – falls on all fours on her yfull attempt

M Dagen – UB – Oregon St – bail, a bit short – toe shoot – toe on to giant full to double tuck – step back – through her “lol I have to do bars” set cleanly. 9.600

“The saga of Stanford women’s gymnastics this season.” “Less than ideal start for Stanford.”

Widner – VT – Stanford – high Yfull but struggles more this week – deep landing, forward with a hop. “Judges will interpret the code and deduct accurately.” Will they though Evan? Will they? 9.675

Looks like we missed Kyla Bryant’s vault because they went ahead, rather than waiting for the bars judges to interpret the apocalypse faced by a routine that doesn’t start from a 10.

“You can see the judges have…a LOT to talk about in front of the low bar there.” Evan is my favorite.

Jessen – VT – Stanford – yfull, around, chest down and a stagger on landing. 9.650

Hoiland – Ub – Oregon St – blind to piked jaeger, caught, but goes over on her next handstand, doesn’t come off the bars but will be the equivalent of a fall – lots of missed handstands as she tries to finish. 9.075

Brunette does a ylayout in the 5th spot for Stanford, clean body position, large bounce back. 9.575

Hoang – VT – Stanford – also a ylayout, less of a bounce back than Brunette but less distance and amplitude. 9.425

Young – UB – Oregon St – clear hip to toe on to maloney to overshoot, pretty solid, some feet – short final cast hs – DLO, pikes it down quite a bit at the end, hop forward. But a usable hit.

Stanford finished vault when Oregon State had done only 2 bars routines. GREAT.

Yanish – UB – Oregon St – 1/2 to front giant 1/2 to bail, a little hip angle, shoot back to high – good final cast position – DLO, pretty dismount, hop in place.

You know it’s trouble when both Dagen and Yanish have to do bars. 9.750

GOT TO PLUG THAT TWITTER.

Bird – UB – Oregon St – godo first hs – bail, hits her vertical – stalder to shoot high bar – some arch in cast hs – hit tkatchev – FTDT, small hop. 9.800

Domingo – UB – Oregon St – short first hs – ray to overshoot, solid – very short final cast hs – front giant 1/2 with a hesitation but keeps going, double tuck dismount, quite deep but survives it.

This meet is taking place in a different world where live scores haven’t been invented and we have no idea what’s happening and vault is done 18 hours before bars and it’s a thorougly entertaining disaster.

Evan, save us, get us some team scores.

Have we started the second rotation? No one can say.

Bird went 9.825 on VT.

Zeng – UB – Stanford – blind to jaeger and falls, couldn’t get her hands over – resumes with good hs – legs apart on pak – gets caught in 1/2 turn on low but works through it – DLO, some piking, lunge back

Young – VT – Oregon St – hits a full, step back, chest somewhat forward and a leg break in the air. 9.725.

Widner – UB – Stanford – good first hs – giant full to bail, some pike in the air, gets to vertical well – giant full to double tuck, hop back. Clean work. 9.675

Peterson – VT – Oregon St – round off full on, back tuck, hits it, medium hop back. 9.900. OK? “Not sure if I quite agree…” Hard same.

Brunette – UB – Stanford – small arch in first hs – giant 1/2 to deltchev to overshoot, lots of feet flexing but hit – DLO, small hop back. Through it.

Yanish – VT – Oregon St – great distance as always on her full, medium hop back. 9.875

Garcia – UB – Stanford – Impressed that Evan did not do a New York accent when saying she’s from “New York, New York,” that’s the real upset of this meet – blind to jaeger to overshoot, solid amplitude – short cast hs on high – blind to front 1.5, stuck landing. Nice job. 9.875

Gonzales – VT – Oregon St – round off full on back pike, chest forward with a lunge. 9.825

Bryant – UB – Stanford – toe on to tkatchev, hit – pak, great – a bit late on 1/2 turn on low – hitting cast hs well – DLO, nearly sells the stick, step back into salute. 9.850

M Dagen – VT – Oregon St – does her Y1.5 and nearly sticks, small slide back and some knees. Good. 9.900

Micco – UB – Stanford – hits jer jaeger – very short cast hs to follow – bail is hit – cast hs are fully horizontal – dismounts with a front layout 1/2. A sixth person in a lineup doing gymnastics.

West Virginia is done with a season-high 196.100. That score will put West Virginia back to 36th for the time being, ahead of UNC and Nebraska. And we now know that Nebraska will need better than a 196 today against Iowa in order to go into the final meet in a top-36 position. (New Hampshire also still competing today but a little farther back.)

Rotation 3

Hoang – BB – Stanford – bhs loso series, hit – straddle jump – beat to loso, also solidly landed – pike jump to stag ring attempt, not a lot of head release, a check – 1.5 dismount, hop forward, hit. 9.825

Mack – FX – Oregon St – front lay to rudi, nearly shows the stick and then steps back – switch side to popa, nice elevation – double pike, lunge back but not too large, keeps it in bounds – straight jump full to straddle sit, like it. 9.850

49.325 on vault, 48.525 on bars for Oregon State.
48.125 on vault, 48.350 on bars for Stanford

Widner – BB – Stanford – switch to split, good – bhs loso series, very solid – aerial with a check, leg-up – “If it’s good enough for Kathy Johnson Clarke it’s good enough for me” – side aerial to full, hop back. 9.625

Bird – FX – Oregon St – lay to rudi to straddle jump, hit – switch 1/2 to popa looks good – 2.5, good control there – 9.925

Jessen – Bb – Stanford – full turn, slightly tentative – bhs loso series, hit this time, some knees – side aerial, check and then an additional tentative check – cat leap to switch side, hit, good height – 1.5 dismount, step to the side. 9.650

You can also see the nervousness through my core.

Peterson – FX – Oregon St – double tuck, a little short, step forward – front lay to front full, very crisp layout position – switch 1/2 to popa, a little short on switch position, good popa straddle – double pike, control, chest down. 9.875

Flam – BB – Stanford – split to switch 1/2, short of position and a check – punch front, nailed -Didn’t connect to back tuck, but both solid – cat leap to switch side, check – front full dismount, small step. 9.650

Force – FX – Oregon St – double pike, nice, chest up and under control – switch 1/2 to popa, looks good – front lay to front full, under control, a little soft in the air – double tuck, solid, chest just a little down. 9.925

Another classic 10.000/9.850 split. What is happening.

Bryant – BB – Stanford – strong full turn – bhs loso series, hit, good speed – beat to switch split jump, good – punch front, rising up onto her toes with a step forward – bhs bhs double tuck, holds the stick on it, just a little forward. Nice. 9.850

M Dagen – FX – Oregon St – attempts front 2/1, not all the way around, steps it around after landing – front lay to front full, nice and high – double pike, stutter back. 9.825

Tan Sze En – BB – Stanford – she’s competing this year – side aerial with a large break, leg up and a lean – switch, check, no connection – switch 1/2, leans to try to add a split jump, wobble on both – split jump 1/2 from side is fine – beat to split jump, check – gainer pike, small hop. Stayed on? 9.250

Yanish – FX – Oregon St – big DLO as always, small slide back, Evan tries to sell us on the control, I’m not there – front full to layout, solid landing – switch side to popa, good split positions – double tuck, chest down, steps to the side. 9.850

Stonecipher is doing exhibition on beam. Aw, Stanford has enough people to do exhibitions now. Aerial with a lean, trying to connect it into one-arm bhs, check, I would say no combo – switch to split to another one-arm bhs – bhs back layout as dismount, hop back.

48.600 for Stanford on beam, 49.425 for Oregon State on floor.

Oregon State 147.275, Stanford 145.075

Rotation 4

Peterson – BB – Oregon St – slight overturn on full turn – switch 1/2, landed – bhs bhs loso series, hit, small lean – split jump to straddle 3/4, a bit short of split but secure – gainer pike, off to the side a little but stuck. 9.850

Zeng – FX – Stanford – lay to rudi, short landing with a step forward – double tuck, solid – split leap full to popa to straight jump full, not bad – 9.800

L Gonzales – BB – Oregon St – aerial to bhs, check – switch to straddle 1/4, some back leg on switch, nice high straddle there – full turn, small check – cat leap to kickover, deepish but held it – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.875

Jessen – FX – Stanford – back 1.5 to layout, somewhat flat but hit and around – switch side to popa, some hop on landing – double tuck, under control well, chest down – wolf jump full to wolf jump full, around – 9.725

Young – BB – Oregon St – aerial, keeps moving to back tuck, secure landings – full turn, slightly tentative – switch to split to stag ring, short positions on split elements, not a lot of release on her stag either – gainer full, small slide back. 9.825

Brunette – FX – Stanford – front lay to rudi, slide back, some pike in her layout – wolf full to split jump full, some feet – double tuck, nice control there. 9.800

Domingo – BB – Oregon St – aerial to back tuck, hit – switch to straddle to split jump 3/4, pretty positions – smoother full turn – gainer full, holds the stick. 9.900

Widner – FX – Stanford – switch ring to split full, nice split full position, best dance elements so far – front lay to front full – Evan pretending like she was going to do a DLO like he’s the SEC Network talking about Alyssa Baumann – switch 1/2 to split, again excellent dance elements – double pike, little hop, good one. 9.800

S Gonzales – BB – Oregon St – aerial – wobble and can’t save it – falls – redoes her aerial to try to connect but cannot, won’t have an acro series in this routine, so they’ll dump this one – got it together to finish the second half of the routine

Hoang – FX – Stanford – she hits a solid DLO, good control – split leap 1.5, brings it around – front lay to front full, nearly sticks that one, thought about it for a second and then a little step – double pike, short, step forward. 9.825

M Dagen – BB – Oregon St – bhs loso with a large check but keeps it on, leg-up check – switch to switch 1/2, short of split – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.825

Bryant – FX – Stanford – full-in, very high, strong landing – front tuck through to double pike, lunge back and OOB – switch side to popa, hit, a little under. – open double tuck, fall, well short – “open double tuck, beauti—oh.”

49.275 for Oregon State on beam. 48.950 for Stanford on floor.

Flam dance through on senior day exhibition. Also Garcia.

FINAL: Oregon State 196.550, Stanford 194.025

Some score implications in these final two meets of the day. Cal is eager to go 197.200, which would put them ahead of Utah as the top-ranked team at the Pac-12 Championship. Washington is trying to make the latest of late pushes for a regionals spot after that 196.5 mid-week and needs to do something like that again to make it semi-realistic. Washington already has to count a 195.000, which is low for regionals, so needs another 196 to balance that out.

Nebraska is currently sitting at 38th in the in-progress standings after today’s results and needs to go 196.000+ to get back into the top 36 for Monday’s rankings. Iowa is safe in 20th right now, but that’s still a little blah for how well this season has gone, so Iowa would really like a high 196 or a 197 to make some ground back up.

Rotation 1

Higgins – VT – Nebraska – hit a yfull, medium bounce back, chest forward. 9.775

Greenwald – UB – Iowa – Ray, takes it too far and falls to start – resumes, toe on to pak, hit – 1/2 turn on low, short – DLO, hop forward

Piringer – VT – Nebraska – solid Yfull, slightly smaller hop back than Higgins and a little more open position. 9.825

Cal/Washington starting

Schank – VT – Cal – nice open position, bounce back, a little more distance than her usual

Rogers – Ub – Iowa – maloney to pak, hit, small leg break – loses some mementum changing direction on low bar but works through – giant full, hesitation into double tuck, hop back. 9.725

Davis – VT – Nebraska – hits a yfull with a bounce back, some more loose leg form than the first two. 9.850 seems high

Killough-Wilhelm opens Washington with a hit. Sadighi comes into the vault lineup for Cal with a nice yfull, opens up, holds the landing. That’s a good option. 9.850 for Sadighi and SKW.

Hartzler – Ub – Iowa – hits piked jaeger, right to fingertips – short cast hs on high and does not get to vertical on her straddle back – giant full to double tuck, stuck

Comin – VT – Nebraska – great distance on her yfull but also a large bounce back. 9.825

Washington has a fall from McNamara on bars in spot 2.

Clausi – VT – Cal – small hop back on yfull, solid in the air. 9.800

Steffensmeier – UB – Iowa – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, aagin a fingertip catch – small arch in hs – nice pak, good shape – stuck dismount. 9.925

Dujakovich – VT – Nebraska – brings out her y1.5, tucks it to get it around but lands it, medium hop forward. 9.900

Li – Vt – Cal – sticks her yfull well – a little bit of pike and leg form, but strong work. 9.875

Kaji – Ub – Iowa – short first hs – blind to jaeger, hit – pak, very archy but fine – pretty DLO, good one. 9.925

Curtis – VT – Nebraska – yfull, opens well but has a pretty large bounce back. 9.775

Bowles – UB – Washington – up 4th, trying to drop a fall in this rotation – good first hs – deltchev to overshoot, hit – better hs but then goes over the wrong way on her giant fiull and hs to hop off

Kenlin – Ub – Iowa – maloney to pak, nice – toe full on high – great finish position there – double tuck, loses her form on it and overcooks it a little, hop back. Nice on the bars.

George – VT – Cal – pretty yfull as always – small slide back. 9.875.

Nebraska 49.175 on vault. Iowa 49.225 on bars.

It started disasterously for Iowa but they pulled it back with those middle of the lineup routines to get a solid bars number. Nebraska gets itself over 196 pace with those vault scores. That’s a season-high vault number for them.

Thompson – Ub – Washington – nice high jaeger, good hs – some angle in bail catch – FTDT, holds a deep stick

DeSouza – VT – Cal – hits her Y1.5, little hop forward and then a quick step salute. 9.875

Four 9.875s gets Cal to 49.350 on vault, just ahead of the pace they’re looking for. Washington will be counting a fall on bars, so the dream is basically over.

Cal had Solari go in exhibition with a handspring pike 1/2, lunge back but solid.

Thomas – Ub – Washington – short first hs – blind to jaeger, hit – pak, legs apart – rushing through these hs – giant full to double tuck, lunge back. Limits the damage. 9.750

After 1:
Iowa 49.225, Nebraska 49.175
Cal 49.350, Washington 48.400

Rotation 2

Tolan – VT – Iowa – solid security on her yfull, small slide, a little piking. 9.675 is quite tight comparatively, really got her on dynamics

Piringer – Ub – Nebraska – toe on to maloney, some leg break – bail, short of vertical – giant full with some legs into double tuck, finds the stick. 9.725

Greenwald – VT – Iowa – similar, small hop back, a little piking, good. 9.775

Lorange – UB – Nebraska – has to recast on initial toe on – does, maloney to pak – 1/2 turn on low, a bit late – short short hs – giant full to double tuck, low but finds the stick. 9.675

Kenlin – VT – Iowa – better amplitude on her yfull but a fairly large bounce back, good layout shape. 9.850. That’s more like how Nebraska was scored on vault.

Cal and Washington starting rotation 2

Weiss hits a Tsuk tuck full, chest down and a step. 9.550

Thaler – UB – Nebraska – toe on to maloney, pak, loses her leg position some in the pak – 1/2 turn on low – short cast hs – giant full, late into high double tuck, step back. 9.750

DeSouza – Ub – Cal – good piked jaeger into overshoot, solid cast hs on high – FTDT, a little angled to the side but holds the stick. 9.925

McNamara – VT – UW – one of her best ones, full on back tuck, chest up, lunge back

Colombo – Ub – Nebraska – blind to piked jaeger, nice – pak is clean, finishes with stuck double tuck. 9.725

Li – Ub – Cal – Missed beginning. Pak, clean – good, van leeuwen, hit, legs together – giant full to double tuck, stuck. Nice. 9.900

Killian – VT – Iowa – good yfull, has the height and distance, a little pike, small hop back. 9.875

Davis – UB – Nebraska – good first hs – maloney to clear hip, very clean into tkatchev – hitting hs well – bail, some angle in the air but gets to vertical – DLO, small hop in place. Nice. 9.875

Henderson – VT – Iowa – awesome yfull, bit, small hop back. 9.900

Schank – UB – Cal – blind to piked jaeger to overshoot, clean work – good cast hs on high – DLO, stuck landing. Very pretty. 9.950

Roby – UB – Nebraska – good first hs – blind to jaeger, a tad close but fine – small arch in cast hs – clean pak – 1/2 turn on low looks fine – a bit shor ton final cast hs – DLO, lands it chest down with a larger stagger on landing. Was great on the bars.

Bordas – UB – Cal – good first hs – blind to huge jaeger to overshoot, good – solid cast hs – giant full, pretty good finish position into double tuck, collapses in it and puts her hand down. Weirdness.

Smith – VT – Washington – y tucked 1.5, hit, some of her best control, small hop back

Iowa 49.225 on vault. Nebraska 48.800 on bars to go slightly under 196 pace now. After 2: Iowa 98.450, Nebraska 97.975

Kuc – UB – Cal – good first hs – maloney to pak, lovely legs together – late 1/2 turn on low, gets loose in position – good cast hs – FTDT, hit with a step forward. 9.875

Thompson – VT – Washington – great yfull, high and open, stuck, really just her insane leg separation on landing to take and a slightly deep position. 9.875

Watterson – UB – Cal – pak, good – toe on to van leeuwen – toe full, nice finish position into double tuck, slide back. Through with five hits. 9.925

A pedestrian 49.575 for Cal on bars. It looked like it was going to be another one of those 49.8s again until the Bordas miss.

I missed a couple of the Washington vault scores, so not sure what their total was there as the scores have broken.

Green in exhibition for Cal with a routine that would have been comparable in the high 9.8s probably.

Washington with a big 49.275 on vault. If they can keep doing this, it might not be a lost meet after all.

After 2: Cal 98.925, Washington 97.675

Rotation 3

Lorange – BB – Nebraska – bhs loso series, secure, some feet – switch to split, nice 180s – hitch kick to side aerial, secure – split 1/4, check – 1.5 dismount, hop. 9.850

Killian – FX – Iowa – 3/1, gets it around with solid control, some leg crossing – front full to front pike, a little low, controls the step – slightly crooked in popa position – double tuck, nailed landing. Good one. 9.850

Davis – BB – Nebraska – switch to straddle 1/4, hit – bhs loso series, solid – cat leap to aerial round off, no checks thus far – sdie aerial to tuck full, some leg positions but good stick. 9.825

Kenlin – FX – Iowa – front 2/1 to front tuck, hit, took it a little off to the side – 1.5 to layout with a dance out, good layout position – switch – split ring full, not bad on that position – 9.875

Higgins – BB – Nebraska – candle mount, good – beat to sheep jump, hit – gets through her bhs bhs loso series, some form and a small check – 9.775

Rotation 3 starting for Cal/Washington

Clausi – BB – Cal – kickover to beat, solid – bhs loso with a leg up check – switch side, hit – side aerial to tuck full, stuck. gainer pike, took it a little close to the beam but fine. 9.800

Greenwald – FX – Iowa – full-in, solidly landing, front foot kept down – switch side to popa, overturns switch side – 2.5 to front tuck, overdoes the 2.5 and goes out horizontally on front tuck, lands it but OOB. 9.625

DeSouza – BB – Cal – aerial, smooth, some knee softness – bhs loso , hit – check on sheep jump – 1.5 dismount, hit, little slide back. 9.850

Thaler – BB – Nebraska – aerial to bhs bhs, pretty, well extneded – kickover with a check – 1.5 dismount, nearly holds the stick witha step salute. 9.750

Kaji – FX – Iowa – 1,5 through to double tuck, hit, chest up – double pike, also solid, a bit too large on the slide back – 9.900

Washington has a fall int he second spot on floor.

Li – BB – Cal – aerial to beat jump, good – bhs loso hit, some knees in bhs – switch to split ring jump, front leg a hairrrr low on split ring – gainer pike, good stick. 9.850

Roby – BB – Nebraska – aerial, hit – very solid bhs loso series – split jump to stag ring, now that’s a stag ring, nice – side aerial to full, stuck landing – 9.925

Henderson – FX – Iowa – full in, great psoition in the air, large bounce back – switch side to popa to straddle, nice positions – front tuck through to double tuck, controls landing well with chest forward. 9.925

George – BB – Cal – aerial to back tuck, solid – wolf double, a tad out of control but fine – split ring jump, nice – gaienr full, holds her stick. 9.900

Curtis – BB – Nebraska – wolf jump to front tuck is somewhat more solid this week, arm wave check – bhs loso, hit – switch to split, good 180s – 1.5, stuck. 9.950 with a 10.000/9.900 split. I mean absolutely not. She checks on that front tuck

Guerin – FX – Iowa – huge full in, bounce back – good lift into her straddle elements – front tcuk trhough to double tuck, a large step but keeps front foot down.

Thompson – FX – Washington – double tuck, smoothly dropped into landing – front lay to front full, hit – split leap 1.5 – rudi, under control, the hit they needed. 9.900

Nebraska 49.325 on beam so just needs to stay living on floor to get that 196 they were shooting for. Iowa 49.450 on floor, so a 197 is very much alive with a good beam.

Bordas – BB – Cal – hitch kick to aerial, checks, breaks connection into split jump – bhs loso series, solid, switch to split jump, nice – nearly an arm wave check on choreography – cat leap to side aerial, saves it, comes in short, wobbles to keep it on the beam – gainer full, hop back. Got through it but they’ll want to drop it. 9.700

After 3: Iowa 147.900, Nebraska 147.325

Killough-Wilhelm – FX – Washington – solid double tuck landing – front 2/1, controlled pretty well, some leg crossing but not bad for a front 2/1 – 1.5 to front layout, a little short on layout landing but doesn’t give it away. 9.850

Watterson – BB – Cal – wolf double, smooth – bhs loso series, huge break but keeps it on the beam, somehow, Australian witchcraft – large leg-up check – switch to split leap, nice – cat leap to side aerial to full, bounce back.

Cal struggles on the last couple beam routines but still gets out with a rotation score over 49 so won’t need to do too much on floor to get to that 197.2 mark.

Cunningham – FX – UW – fron ttuck through to double tuck, smoothly under control, chest just a bit down – switch 1/2 to wolf full to wolf full, very precise combo – double pike, strong work. Should get them over 49 for floor.

Perea beam exhibition – wolf double, slight hestiation but fine – aerial with a check, breaks connection into back pike – throws her tuck full and it’s very strong – switch to split to beat, just a bit tight in position – side somi to back tuck full dismount is also quite good.

A full-twisting back tuck on beam in your exhibition routine. But, she didn’t have an acro series in that routine that would get credit, so until she has one that isn’t so scary, it’s not worth putting that in the lineup. Have we considered like full-twisting back tuck to swingdown or something?

Rotation 4

Henderson leads off beam for Iowa, finishes with double tuck, a little short, hop forward. 9.850

Curtis – FX – nebraska – double pike, good, chest up, control – front full to layout – switch ring to switch 1/2 – double tuck, does well to keep the front foot down on landings. 9.900

I can FEEL the toxic masculinity coming off the Nebraska PA announcer.

Castle – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series and falls – punch front is hit, pause before beat jump – cat hop to switch side, nice – 1.5, stuck. 9.300

Dujakovich – FX – Nebraska – nice high double pike, but a bounce back – split leap full to popa, some flexed feet, clear finish positions – rudi, another bounce back, this one larger – 1.5 to front full was good. 9.875

Killian – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series, tight position but secure – front tuck, solid landing – switch to switch, short back leg there – 2/1 dismount, stuck. 9.875

Higgins – FX – Nebraska – front 2/1, bounce forward OOB – switch side to popa – rudi, larger slide back – back 1.5 to front lay, flat on the layout, has to tuck at the end to land it

Nick – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series, hit – some knee bending – cat leap to aerial and falls, had to grab the beam on her check and couldn’t keep it on. Iowa counting a beam fall now, so this won’t be that big useful score anymore.

Killough-Wilhelm through with a good leadoff beam hit for Washington, finishes with side aerial to 1.5, nearly holds stick, step forward

Bordas – FX – Cal – double tuck, chest up, solid landing – 1.5 to layout, controsl the back foot – switch to ring 1/2 to wolf jump, strong – rudi, again a somewhat large step but keeps it under control. A better set for her today after some other tough ones. 9.900

Kaji – BB – Iowa – lovely bhs loso series – hits side aerial well – split jump to split 3/4, nice, front leg maybe a centimeter short – hs gainer full, holds the stick. 9.925

Ouchers. Martina Comin has injured herself on floor and had to stop after her full in. Landed really deep.

DeSouza – FX – Cal – secure double pike landing, chest a bit forward – switch side to popa – a little popping out of her front full in combo – rudi to double stag, a little travel to the side. 9.875

Kenlin – BB – Iowa – bhs loso series, nice, extended – switch to split jump – aerial to beat jump, comfortable combo – bhs bhs 1.5, small slide back. Kaji and Kenlin saved it a little.

9.975. OK she didn’t stick her dismount though.

Bowles – BB – side aerial to bhs, smooth, slightly soft knees in bhs – beat to wolf jump full, leg-up check –

Press – FX – Nebraska – suddenly a really critical routine to hit for them – DLO and a huge stumble backward, stays on her feet but multiple lunges and on OOB that will have to count – back 1.5 to front lay, pulls it aorund – front lay to front full with a lunge.

Clausi – FX – Cal – double pike, fine, lunge back – 1.5 to layout, slide forward – double tuck quite deep, chest well forward on landing. 9.825

So Iowa counts a fall on beam and still gets 48.925 there for a 196.825 total, which ends up being the high 196 they wanted. Oh and a season high. While counting a fall. Shows what could have happen had they been given crack judging all season long.

The 9.500 from Danielle Press has to count, so Nebraska goes 48.775 on floor. Still gets that 196.100 though.

So the theme of that one was disasters where they still got the scores they needed. Nebraska goes up into 35th now, .025 ahead of 37th West Virginia

Li – FX – Cal – double pike, solid landing – slightly unclear finish position on that dance combo – front full to front lay, solid, some arching over. 9.950. Here we go. The switch has been flipped.

McNamara – BB – Washington – they have four hits so far but a couple 9.7s in there – bhs loso series, hit, some knees – cat leap to switch 1/2 to beat, a bit short in switch 1/2 – side aerial to tuck full, hop up in place.

That means Washington will hit 196 today after all. Continuing the theme from the Nebraska meet.

George – FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front tuck, nice – switch ring to split leap full, super high, clearly compelted – rudi, stuck landing – excellent. That was better than Li’s 9.950 to keep an eye out.

Liz’s face says, “I could kill someone with the sparkles on this mask, so consider that before you give this not a 10.”

9.975 with a 10 from one judge. So she only has to do one murder.

Russon – BB – Washington – aerial, short but works through it to beat jump in combination – bhs loso series, small lean – switch to split full, nearly pulls it around – 1.5, step forward.

Schank – FX – Cal – double tuck, hit, slide back – double pike, controls the step back – switch side to popa to popa, the completion of those elements has long been her white whale on this routine, and while she overturned the switch side, they were basically there – 1.5 to layout, nice.

9.875 for Schank, 49.575 on floor for Cal, which is a new team record on that event, and 197.600 team total is the third-highest in Cal’s history. Also Iowa’s was their 4th-best ever, with a counting fall.

So Washington goes 196.025, which will put them in 39th. It’s still an outside chance, but the dream has been resuscitated.

Cal’s 197.600 gives them an NQS of 197.575 and will have them at 5th in next week’s rankings as Utah drops to 6th, Cal will be #1 in the conference.

  1. No Audrey Davis at all?? Hoping they’re resting her out of precaution rather than injury

    1. she was injured in warmups 😭 it’s gonna be awful for OU’s postseason lineup if it’s serious

      1. ahhhh beans 😪 I’m hoping it’s just being overly cautious just because OU wasn’t looking to boost its NQS necessarily but only time will tell if it’s a “sit this one out” injury or season ending

      2. she was on the sidelines without any visible wrap/brace/ice/etc soooo yeah, fingers crossed

    2. Agreed…but she was “slightly injured” during warm-ups. We shall see 🙂

  2. I’m in love with Oklahoma and Michigan’s vault lineups…I go back and forth every week on who is best

  3. Bell Johnson needs bubbly, smiley, bouncy choreography like Evy Schoppher’s. That is what she emotes while “performing” to blues music. Total miss

    1. Oklahoma seems to give anyone with a long body line more serious, contemporary choreo even if it doesn’t match their personality. When it works it REALLY works but sometimes it is a total miss. Whoever is their choreographer though does beautiful work

      1. Thr choreography is good, but KJ needs to back off the shoulder shimmy. Count em. She has like 15-20 in the lineup, so over-used.

  4. god I miss Smith & Trautman in the floor lineup. Johnson, LaPinta, and Deniz back to back to back is too much for this OU fan’s nerves.

  5. What even is Oklahoma’s best possible floor lineup at this point? Obviously Webb, Smith, Trautman, Schoepfer but what about the first two? The scorers say LaPinta and Draper but surely they have other options right

    1. I think Draper’s been solid enough for two seasons now that she stays in the “optimum” lineup. It’s that last score- one of Johnson, LaPinta, and Deniz. I mean, I wouldn’t want the championship riding on any of the three of those sets.

    2. Ideally in top form Audrey Davis would be in the floor lineup. She hasn’t competed this season but is capable of a variety of E passes. That is really what OU has been missing this season. Big tumbling. The front doubles and triple full don’t really bring in the same wow factor as double Arabians, full in, double lay etc..

      1. YES! They’re not the only team either. and these lousy cookie cutter bar ‘routines’ with a bail/stand on the bars/piked DLO are making most bars unwatchable!

    3. Draper’s a solid lead-off, although it sounds like she was a bit off today. It’s the middle of the lineup that’s scary. Hopefully they can get Smith back, but I have my doubts about seeing Trautman on floor this year. I know OU’s had a ton of injuries this year, but it seems like they’ve had no depth on floor for years. They have to start recruiting floor workers, half of the current lineup are walk-ons.

      1. OU’s floor lineup should be in much better shape next season with Jordan Bowers, Moorea Linker, and Danielle Sievers coming in. Plus Danae Fletcher (who’s on the roster this season but hasn’t made an appearance), along with Smith and hopefully Trautman (I have nearly accepted we won’t see her back there this year). I also have my eye on Davis and LeVasseur for this event.

      2. Yes I really think those four that you said could all make the lineup which is great, especially if Bowers still has the double front. But I wonder why LeVasseur and Davis have not competed floor this year and maybe if they could try out next year instead of just relying on Smith and Webb for returning scores?

    4. I think Draper has been great on floor this year! (And I wasn’t a fan last year) I don’t think LaPinta’s high scores have been accurate; they will not hold up at nationals. I miss Trautman so much.

    5. Ragan, Anastasia, Karrie, Jordan, and Audrey do not have a cookie cutter bar routine.

  6. Anyone happen to know why Katie Chamberlain from Pitt has been missing from bars/beam lineups?

  7. >I haven’t seen a link to live scores for Stanford.
    >I don’t know what I expected.

Stanford seems to be trying their best to erase this season from the history books.

There is a rumor that one Pac12 W Gymnastics team might not attend next weekend’s Pac12 Championships. Any guesses?

    1. >>There is a rumor that one Pac12 W Gymnastics team
      >>might not attend next weekend’s Pac12 Championships.
      >>Any guesses?
      >
      >UCLA?
      >Utah?

      Incorrect and Incorrect.

  8. If this many teams are capable of high 196 to 197, I think it is time to adjust difficulty requirements at least in post season, or figure out the judging. There will be no separation when it comes time for regionals and nationals.

  9. Stanford stream observations

    1. Kudos to Stanford for even having a stream (after not having much info at all from previous ‘meets’).

    2. Stanford has fan cutouts (by bars) that are actually trimmed to fit. Look cooler than the one-size-fits-all attempts at other schools. There don’t appear to be many of them though.

    3. Stanford apparently moved this meet into this small indoor gymnasium since the outside area where they have been training was not available today.

    4. The stream mentioned (and showed) that some men gymnastics apparatus also are set up. (Insert your own punchline here.)

    5. Stanford’s Kyla Bryant just scored 9.95 on the still rings to edge Oregon State’s sisters Dagen 9.9s on still rings. Rock stars all!

    5. The stream announcer just gave out his Twitter and his number of followers has grown by over 1 Million just in the past 15 minutes! Congrats!

    6. Wait…this update just came in…all of the stream announcer’s new Twitter followers (and even some of his prior followers) have just unsubscribed. Oh well; easy come easy go.

    1. This is they gym where all the mens meet are.usually when they do the womens meet in there it get to full and there is a line outside. The last couple of years they had done all womens meets in Maples Pavillion. From a energy saving perspective it was a smart move.

  10. Looks like George Washington is out of the quad meet, was hoping they would make it for today’s competition after canceling Friday.

    1. They cancelled for Covid reasons. Did you really expect them to be okay in 2 days??

      1. Yes.
It was Covid contact tracing not Covid itself.

Negative tests and they can compete.

Do you not understand how this works?

      2. You’re supposed to quarantine 7 days after a negative test after exposure (or 10 without a test), according to the CDC. The q is whether they’re ok to go for EAGLs.

    2. Yes, it’s too bad. Also too bad ‘Kelly’ had to be an asswipe in responding to you.

    3. I know exactly how it works – apparently you don’t.

You can’t just run out the door if you get a negative test. The virus can take time to show up so you have to wait a few days to either do a test or get multiple negatives.

      1. Bitch, I work in medicine. I’m perfectly aware of how COVID testing works, as I deal with patients. Get off the rag and stop trying to be a cheesy Mean Girl fail.

  11. Thanks to The BBS for the Live Blog, and to Stanford for the Live Stream with insightful commentary.

    1. Sorry, I can’t praise Stanford for a live stream. That is the very basic expectation. Congrats on a stream of your meet — something most schools have provided for 15-20 years. Also, live scores would be great. Imagine a basketball game with no running score.

Stanford’s athletics department needs to get it together. I get they take a “we care about sports, but we are all about academics” approach; however, Cal, Michigan, Duke, NW, etc. all are better with fan engagement in athletics.

Stanford has made it as difficult as possible to be a fan of the team. There is little to no news during the year. Their athletes deserve better.

  12. SEC judges would have scored the Stanford senior day floor dance through exhibitions (sans tumbling) in the high 9.9s.

    1. Have you watched meets this weekend? I don’t think it’s just SEC scoring any more. Ridiculous scores are everywhere. Even non-power 5 schools are in the mix now.

  13. Exactly! When meets are averaging multiple 9.9+ by teams from #1 Oklahoma all the way down through the rankings with teams like SEMO and BGSU then you know the judging has to be pretty loose … it’s almost like 9.9 is the equivalent of “didn’t fall” but no other deductions for form , form breaks, bends at the waist, leg in the air , balance checks , steps on dismounts are taken !

Not every routine is near perfect…and that’s not a bad thing, just facts but if you look at all these scores , you’d never know it.

  14. I see we’ve arrived at the “just give them what they need to advance” stage of the season.

  15. I’m excited that Cal has improved so much as it makes the conference more interesting however that being said some of thes scores are beyond reason. I watched the Utah meet and they were hit hard for any touch of wobble. Randall on beam at least 9.85-9.875 tonight; LeBlanc on bars would have gone 9.9 plus anywhere else not to mention Isa and O’KEEFE would have both been 9.85 at least at the Cal meet. I know that Utah isn’t everyone’s favorite team but their scores this year have been collectively lower than most schools. Ok Cal goes in to PAC as #1 but are they really. Their bars are amazing but they are not better than Utah in the other 3events. It’s just the scoring debacle. Kind of sad for the sport. Soon if the crazy scoring continues ncaa gymnastics will become more like a beauty pageant than an athletic event By the way, I’m a Michigan alum. Their scores are a pipe dream too. They are great and didn’t need the assist this year. Too bad the judging bad taste is there too. Never thought I would say this in my whole life but for next weekend “GO UTES “

    1. screw Utah. I’m glad they don’t get the higher scoring that other schools do and as for next weekend–Go anyone but the Utes

      1. It’s always commentators like you who won’t put their names on thoroughly trashy remarks. Utah has been under scored all year and they have handled it with class. They haven’t pouted or stormed off given up during a meet or posted self serving comments. They just do their job. NCAA really needs to take the judging situation seriously. I agree with Jax above. It’s becoming more of a pageant this year. I’ve always loved UCLA but I can’t even watch them this year. Not just because they have fallen in the rankings but they seem to be about everything “BUT” gymnastics. They have become the most incohecive team in the country. Their stars are all that matter. I don’t care about their life choices or who calls them on the phone. I want their gymnastics back. I lasted an 30 minutes of their last meet before shutting it off Waller better watch his back or Jordan will have his job. She’s all about business. Look at what she accomplished this year. Clock ticking

      2. I think Utah is better than Cal if both teams hit but if both hit their ceiling, it’s close, and Utah cannot seem to hit a full meet yet.

They get plenty of cracky scoring too, it’s just less noticeable because the judges rarely go for the 10.

    2. I think in a competition where both teams are scored by the same judges, Utah should come on top, of course assuming both Cal and Utah hit their average routines.

And yes, Utah is amazing for ranking this high even though they’re the one team consistently underscored (or scored normally, while others were overscored) this season. So for that reason among others I want to them to win the PAC 12 and make the final 4

    3. @Amy Yeah, UCLA is beyond vomitous now. They do nothing but social-media whoring and act as if that’s supposed to make them national champions? Waller is clearly a moron–look at his injury list! I used to love them too. Imagine making Miss Val look like Joan of Arc. !!!!!

    4. “Never thought I would say this in my whole life but for next weekend “GO UTES “
Me, too! I was a UCLA fan when I got I to NCAA gym, and pretty anti-Utah. But they have won me over this year with their beauty and consistency. They have easily been the tightest scored team this year in the top 5 (8? 16? 20?). He’ll, BYU is getting g crack scoring whe Utah is being evaluated somewhere in the range of realistic to low. (Justice for Jaylene)
Go Utes!! My big hope is for them to outrank OU and LSU at Nationals.

  16. Y’all, I really think Iowa has a great chance to make nationals. The quality of their routines is certainly better than Georgia, Kentucky, maybe even Arizona state. I’d say the favorites are Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, Utah, Cal, Michigan, Minnesota, Denver but teams like Alabama, Arkansas, and yes Iowa could definitely sneak in with a lucky regionals placement

    1. I agree completely with the top 8. And though UCLA hasn’t hit 4 good rotations so far, you never know. I wouldn’t count them out just yet, and would add them to the underdogs

    2. I think the clear top 4 teams at this point of the season are Florida, Michigan, LSU, and Oklahoma. I put them in the order of how I think they’d end up in the same scoring at a peaked meet. OU might still win because none of the other teams have shown an ability to peak *at* the actual team finals. But even as an OU fan, I am rooting for Florida to win as they have the highest quality and hits of any team this season.

      1. Utah is NOT better than LSU. Utah is at best 5th but even that might be shaky. LSU vaulting and UB is far superior to Utah and they are about even on FX. Utah for sure has a big advantage on beam though.

      2. I believe yesterday’s OU meet would have been a peak if Davis was not “slightly injured” in warm-ups, they definitely would have scored 198+… finally!! Tad rough season for OU due to injuries. All in all, GO SOONERS…team always finds a way to win!

      3. Anything can happen but certainly Michigan has 198+ past two meets. It could come down to FL and MI as top two teams, then OK and LSU. Let’s not forget about a sleeper team, a team we never expected. Wish NCAA would just have the top 2 teams of a season compete at Nationals…let the top 2 battle it out! The Four On The Floor format is average. Top two only competing is what football, basketball, baseball, and hockey teams do.

      4. I mean… football, basketball, baseball, and hockey are also all games where gymnastics isn’t

  17. Why don’t people/judges like Utah? I’m confused. They have beautiful consistent gymnastics. Isn’t that why we love the sport?

    1. Because their fans are beyond obnoxious and their gymnastics is (often, though I’d say less so this year) boring and overscored.

  18. Am I the only one who doesn’t think Utah is underscored?? I’ve seen plenty of under rotated yurchenko 1 1/2s with large steps back going 9.875-9.9 for them pretty consistently. They are weaker on bars so it makes sense they score lower there. Beam they are great and do get the scores and floor they score well with mediocre routines (minus Gilstrap who is in fact underscored). What am i missing?

    1. It’s Utah fans trying to be Utah fans and making excuses. This happens every year. At least it is SO much better without Skinner there. All the complaining surrounding her and her scores was annoying. The team is very enjoyable to watch now I will give them that and adding McCallum and Eaker to the team next season is going to boost them into the top tier again. They are not quite national championship worthy despite being fairly consistent this year. We have now seen Oklahoma, Michigan, and Cal hit their strides late in the season, so despite coming out strong they have faded into the back a bit. It will be interesting to see if Cal or Arizona State can win Pac 12 championships for the first time in Pac 12 history. Cal definitely has some moment but are without a doubt over scored. Their routines can compete with Utah head to head. Both being about equal on VT and FX with Cal having a huge advantage over Utah on UB. Utah is better on BB.
