(Yes, I know it says Washington SF #1 when it should say SF #2, but do we really think I have the interest or work ethic to change it? I do not.)
Let’s engage in this nonsense, shall we?
The first incident will be LSU and Missouri’s semifinal as Iowa tries to stage a coup. Iowa begins on bars, which has been the stumbling block this year, but you have to think they can’t be under 49 in that first rotation and still hope to beat teams of this quality, even if someone else has an off day.
An hour later, the next batch of semifinals from Oklahoma and Auburn begin, so we’ll see what looks the most interesting at that point.
The first bit of news is that Haleigh Bryant is not in the floor or beam lineups for LSU today. Shchennikova will do beam and Dunne will do floor. They do have Bryant on vault and bars. Apparently it’s stomach virus for Bryant, and not the foot?
Schaffer – VT – Missouri – hits a yfull, medium hop back, some knees in the air. 9.750
Zuhlke – UB – Iowa – Hindorff, hit, some feet – pak, legs break, solid 1/2 turn on low – small arch in cast hs on high – giant full to double tuck, step back into salute. 9.825
Desiderio starts floor, controls the DLO landing well – 1.5 to front lay, just some knees – double tuck, slight chest position, controlled step, good start.
McCrary chest forward on yfull with a step for Missouri. 9.750
Schreiber – VT – Missouri – clean position in the air on yfull but she tries to fight for the stick so much she ends up leaning forward kind of far.
Rojas – Ub – Iowa – hits gienger, legs together pretty well – short of vertical on bail position – FTDT dismount, hop back. 9.725
Long delay for Desiderio’s score. Finally in as 9.850
Davis – VT – Missouri – good amplitude on yfull, solid open, medium step back. 9.825
Shchennikova – FX – LSU – front 2/1, a little stagger on landing, controls it into dance out – 1.5 to front 1/1, similar landing, a bit for form but controls it mostly instead of bounding too much – rudi to split jump, some travel. 9.800
Celestine – VT – Missouri – not the most control on her Y1.5 with a bound forward but nice in the air.
Tolan holds stick on double tuck on bars for Iowa. 9.825
Moore – VT – Missouri – strong Y1.5, big height, hop forward
Greenwald – UB – Iowa – Ray, solid height, some feet – toe on to pak, very small leg break – struggles on low bar, can’t get up to handstand, has to add a toe 1/2, very short of vertical – DLO, solid landing.
Moore’s 9.900 leads Missouri to 49.150 on vault.
KJ Johnson – FX – LSU – high FTDT, keeps her front foot down well despite a larger step – 1.5 to front lay, little slide – switch side to popa, around – double tuck chest a little down, solid.
Steffensmeier hits her jarger on bars – pretty pak, solid 1/2 turn on low – hits cast hs on high – giant full to double tuck, slide back. Solid one, very usable score. 9.850
NC State has a 9.850 from Jennings in the third spot on beam to keep pace.
Ortega – BB – NC State – L turn, a bit under horizontal, connects into a good split jump – bhs onodi and falls. Alas.
Kenlin – UB – Iowa – short first hs – toe on to maloney to pak, pretty pak, some legs in maloney – solid cast hs on high – reallly good finish position on toe full, into a stuck double tuck. Great ending.
Finnegan – FX – LSU – double arabian to stag is nice – split leap full to jump full, good positions, slightly out of control on landing – 2.5 to layout, sticks it – Nice. Would have gone OOB if she hadn’t stuck, even with a controlled step. 9.900
Kenlin’s 9.900 gets Iowa to 49.125 on bars. Trails Missouri but that’s one of their best bars scores of the season. Keeps Iowa in it.
Dunne – FX – LSU – front tuck through to double tuck, little hop to the side, sells the landing pretty well – switch to switch ring 1/2, nice position overall – y spin 1.5ish – double pike, controlled landing, chest down. LSU will have the lead after 1 regardless of Johnson’s routine. Another 9.900 for LSU
Shepard with a strong beam hit to keep NC State in it. 9.875
Webb – BB – NC State – bhs loso, holds it well – switch – aerial, leg up break to horizontal, pulls it back – straddled sheep jump, check on connected split – bounce on dismount.
Johnson – FX – LSU – FTDT, excellent landing – 1.5 to layout, nice – double pike, maybe a little slide. Best of the rotation. All those hoping to qualify out of this for floor will now need LSU to make it as a team.
Webb gets out of there with 9.775, but NC State will be sub-49 with a 48.950.
Alicia in her wheelhouse, telling us about aggressive wrist flicks on beam. Chambliss hits a secure beam in the individual spot.
We’re still waiting on the Johnson score for some reason. Why. I can draw a 9.950 on a piece of paper faster than this.
NC State 48.950
LSU in comfortable shape after that first rotation, allowing themselves the margin to have an eh event later on. Iowa keeping it close with Missouri after that first rotation, which is what they needed to do. Equaling Missouri’s total will be the goal in the second rotation.
Some kind of wild beam ranges for NC State in that first one, so keep an eye on that as others go.
Arenas – VT – LSU – near stick on yfull, slide back. 9.825
Henderson – BB – Iowa – bhs loso, wobble, lean to the side, leg up – finishes double tuck, hop back. Still goes 9.825
Marshall – UB – Missouri – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good amplitude – hits cast hs on high – FTDT, secure landing, small hop in place. 9.875
Shchnneikova – VT – holds onto the stick on her Y1.5 somehow despite coming in super deep – that went from obvious fall to a stick in a nanosecond.
KJ Johnson – VT – LSU – yfull, only small movement, good open. 9.850
Celestine – UB – Missouri – shaposh, struggles on the backswing and the pak is straddled – nice position van leeuwen – stalder to stalder front pike 1/2, stuck. 9.800
Edwards – VT – LSU – medium step forward on Y1.5, knees. 9.825
Johnson – VT – LSU – DTY holds the stick – just the usual bit of knees – very good – 9.950
Patrick – Ub – Missouri – Jaeger, some foot form – bail, gets to vertical – DLO, clean, stuck. 9.850
Killian – BB – Iowa – in the third spot – bhs loso, small squeeze, some knee position – switch to switch, short of split position – 2/1, hops keels together. 9.875
These beam scores have been quite high so far.
Bryant – VT – LSU – handspring pike 1/2 is back, slide back. 9.950 with a non stick. LSU to 49.475 on vault.
Schreiber – UB – Missouri – good first hs – maloney to bail, legs together on bail, some leg break on maloney – arches cast hs on high but brings it back – DLO, step back. 9.775
Kaji – BB – Iowa – bhs loso, large break, step back, leg up to horizontal – cat leap to side aerial, holds onto it – split to split jump 3/4, lovely position – gainer full. Still gets 9.775
Sheremeta – UB – Missouri – good first hs – jaeger was a bit close, connects to overshoot – blind to 1.5, a little under, hop forward.
Rojas – BB – Iowa – bhs loso and falls, so they’ll count Kaji’s 9.775.
Hu – Ub – Missouri – good first hs – Church to pak, great amplotude – 1/2 turn on low bar is excellent – ideal final cast hs – giant full, late into double tuck, a little forward, step. 9.850
Will be a critical beam anchor routine for Kenlin to keep Iowa in this one.
Rutherford finishes floor for NC State in the 4th spot with a controlled double tuck.
Nice high piked Jaeger for Doran from bridgeport on bars.
Kenlin – BB – Iowa – bhs loso, clean – hitch kick to aerial to beat jump, pretty and under control – switch to split, hit – side aerial to layout full, excellent routine. Will be right with Missouri after 2.
9.950 for Kenlin takes Iowa ahead of Missouri by .075.
Shepard – FX – NC State – double pike, nice position in the air, pretty – split leap full to jump full, good toes, a little lack of control on landing – front lay to front full, a bit low and some knees – double tuck but bounces back OOB. 9.675
We still have another floor for NC State and Chambliss, so this will be a long floor rotation.
As for the next rotation, Iowa and Missouri both go to what should be big potential scores for them with Missouri on beam and Iowa on floor, both events that have also been pretty loose in the score department for me so far, but you have to think Iowa needs to extend this lead, probably by a couple tenths, to feel good going to the final rotation where Iowa will be on vault and Missouri on floor.
Jennings – FX – NC State – wolf jump 1.5 – front lay to front full, crossover step – split leap full to wolf full, gets lower on the wolf full in connection – double tuck, smaller bounce back. 9.750
NC State 97.850
We’re getting close to the start of the next two semifinals, which I’ll have open, but with this one as close as it is between Iowa and Missouri, I’ll keep the attention here until something interesting happens elsewhere.
Really good control on 2nd and 3rd passes from Chambliss.
The others are starting, Bordas has a hop in place on yfull for Cal leading off vault. Talia Little holds onto her DLO landing on bars with a little lean. Koch hits a front 2/1 to front tuck on floor, just a bit of legs in the 2/1.
Li returns on vault for Cal with a bounce back on her yfull. Blackson hits her Khorkina well, holds stick on dismount.
Back to the NC State regional, Johnson works out that bars issue this week, good control on DLO.
Marshall – BB – Missouri – kickover to bhs, small lean at the end, pretty quickly connected – another small squeeze on full turn – split jump, little arm wave before straddle 1/4 – gainer full, slide back.
Iowa started floor with 9.800 for Killian.
Greenwald – FX – Iowa – controls landing on FTDT well – switch side to popa, looked short from our angle – 2.5 to front tuck, controled step. 9.825
McCrary, solid kickover front on beam – bhs loso is hit – beat jump to stag ring, no check – split jump 1/2 from side, low back leg – 1.5 dismount, little hop. 9.875
Cal did not have the landings on vault for just 48.950, so under pressure early.
LSU has a fall from Bryant on her Jaeger in the 4th spot.
Kaji – FX – Iowa – 1.5 through to 2/1, controls the step back – double pike, strong landing – 9.875
Schaffer – BB – Missouri – bhs bhs loso, arm wave correction – aerial, hit, some knee – switch to split, good split – step on dismount
NC State is done on vault with 49.025.
Boise State goes 49.225 on bars to Cal’s 48.950 on vault, so keep an eye on that. Utah State on track for a strong beam score as well.
Kenlin – FX – Iowa – front 2/1 but a fairly large lunge forward – 1.5 to layout is clean – switch to switch ring 1/2, nicely done –
Looks like Durante hit her foot on the mat on bars, but LSU will have the margin to count that. For now. 9.675 and 9.700 count, puts some pressure on beam now though.
Sheremeta – BB – Missouri – wayyyy off on her loso series and falls, though they have three useful scores before that, but allows an opening for Iowa.
Kentucky’s 49.400 on vault not going to let anyone else in there after one rotation. Georgia does go 49.150 on bars.
Cal will be in last at that regional after one rotation. Minnesota will have a huge number on floor.
Judges conference about Kenlin’s score, range of 9.700 to 9.950.
Ends up as 9.875 for Kenlin as well.
Hu – BB – Missouri – y spin, holds it – aerial to bhs, good extension, smoothly done – aerial to scale, pretty – beat to split jump 3/4, strong – bhs gainer full, step salute. Nice. 9.950 with a non stick.
Henderson – FX – Iowa – FTDT, small foot movement – switch side to popa to straddle jump – double tuck and steps back OOB, huge deal – Iowa was deeply reliant on this score. 9.750
Schreiber – BB – Missouri – bhs loso loso is right on – switch 1/2 to split jump, solid elevation – gainer full, stuck. Another excellent one.
And it’s 9.975 for her.
Missouri will be only two tenths shy of LSU after the third rotation.
Guerin – FX – Iowa – FTDT, nailed landing – switch side to popa to straddle jump – front tuck through to double tuck, keeps front foot down.
Guerin goes 9.900, so Iowa will trail Missouri after this rotation. Not what they needed given what the remaining events are.
NC State 146.875
Edge to LSU and Missouri now, especially with Missouri ending on floor. But LSU has come back to the pack enough that beam has to be a solid hit today. Iowa in trouble. Needs their best vault of the year and someone else to be off.
Not interesting in taking my eyes off this one, but will keep checking in on whether Cal pulls out of that hole during their bars rotation. They started with 9.850 for Perea and a stick for DeSouza in the second spot.
Out at Auburn, Georgia and Southern Utah have multi-tenth work to do already after one event.
DeSouza went 9.925 on bars, and Williams followed her with a pretty stick on her DLO. Meanwhile Minnesota getting an 8 million on vault.
Zuhlke – VT – Iowa – handspring on, Tsuk tuck with a step back. 9.875 huge number.
Annnd Desiderio has a leadoff fall for LSU. They can’t afford another one and advance. Schreiber with a good hit for Missouri on FX.
Laplante – VT – Iowa – large bounce back on her yfull, clean in the air. 9.800
Killian – VT – Iowa – also has a pretty large bounce back on her yfull. 9.800
Rivers – BB – LSU – bhs loso is secure – switch 1/2, little check on landing – switch to straddle 1/4, hit – 2/1 is a little crazy in the legs, holds the stick but an arm wave for it. 9.800
Zivat – VT – Iowa – holds the stick on a yfull, but was off line and had a leg separation, so things to take –
Schreiber had a leadoff 9.850 for Missouri on FX.
Guerin – VT – Iowa – another high yfull, another bounce back, not quite as large as some of the others.
Dean – BB – LSU – side aerial to bhs, secure, knee in bhs – switch to split, solid – aerial to beat jump, comfortable – strong dismount. That’s what LSU needed. 9.875
Terrible angle for Henderson’s full, but it seemed good?
Cal went 49.450 on bars, which will help them claw back.
And it’s 196.900 for Iowa. They did what they could today for the most part. They just have to hope LSU falls again on beam now.
Shchennikova BB – LSU – candle mount, rolls past vertical too quickly – aerial, works through to bhs bhs – switch to split, some knee position, hit – side aerial, little lean and arm wave, pulls it back – bhs gainer full, holds landing. That was a “don’t do anything that might screw this up” routine but didn’t give away too much.
McCrary – FX – Missouri – front lay to rudi, under control – double pike, chest down, little bounce – 2.5 is nailed. Missouri rolling. 9.900
Finnegan – BB – LSU – bhs loso loso and FALLS! – wow wow wow – switch to split is good – aerial is clean – side aerial to tuck full, hop forward.
And it’s 9.100 for Finnegan. LSU cannot catch Iowa. Iowa is in.
Johnson – BB – LSU – bhs loso, lean to the side to hold it – switch to switch, controls it – good finish, but it won’t matter.
Moore – FX – Missouri – DLO, step back, keeps it in bounds – switch 1/2 to popa to popa, good amplitude – front tuck through to double tuck, deep landing with a hop but will be more than enough.
LSU is done with 196.575 and will be eliminated.
Missouri will win the session regardless of what Celestine does.
Celestine – FX – Missouri – FTDT, lunge back and well OOB – we call that a WE JUST BEAT LSU landing – 1.5 to layout, little slide forward – doubel tuck, chest forward, holds on.
QUALIFIED: Missouri, Iowa
ELIMINATED: LSU, NC State
Now those individual LSU scores (like Johnson being ahead of Bryant on the tiebreak on vault) become significant.
So in other news, Auburn, Kentucky, and Minnesota are all rolling after two events. Cal pulled it back on bars but is now just tied with Utah State and slightly ahead of Boise State going to beam. So that’s where I’m looking now.
DeSouza – BB – Cal – cat leap to aerial, holds it with a little hesitation – bhs loso, secure – sissone – 1.5 dismount, little hop.
Clark – VT – Utah State – hits a yfull, bounce back, knees in the air, has the distance
Pascal – FX – Boise St – double tuck, controls, chest forward – switch ring to split leap full, short of split – 1.5 to layout, well short and falls
Clausi very secure on beam in the 2nd spot, following a 9.825 for DeSouza, slide back on dismount. 9.875
Brooks – VT – Utah State – gets somewhat out of control on yfull with a jar back on landing, some knees in the air as well.
Williams – BB – Cal – hits wolf double – bhs loso, smooth – aerial, hit – switch leap to split leap, lovely position – side aerial to tuck full, chest forward with a little hop in place. 9.850
Solid landing on yfull for Wells from utah State – knees –
Jackson finishes vault for Utah State with a good yfull, has the amplitude, small slide back and some feet at the end.
49.075 for Utah State on vault.
Sales falls on bars for Minnesota, though they have four good hits before that.
Bordas – BB – Cal – aerial to split jump, pretty – bhs loso, very small adjustment – switch to split, hit, a bit of back foot – full turn, little hesitation – sticks gainer full. 9.900
Ramler – UB – Minn – Shap to pak, lovely – shap 1/2, nice – toe on to FTDT, lunge back.
Suni watch, she’s going on bars now – tight first hs – maloney to pak to van leeuwen, great – small arch on final cast hs – FTDT, stuck. Didn’t have her handstands today.
Li – BB – Cal – aerial to split jump looks good – bhs loso, secure – sheep jump is well executed – gainer tuck full, stuck. That will clinch a good beam total for Cal with five hits, which will bring them into second after this one. 9.900
Boise State is currently counting a 9.750 on floor but on track to get through with a 49+ still.
Lauzon – BB – Cal – wolf single, nice – switch to split, hit, nice switch position – small check on her triple series – cat leap to side aerial to full, stuck.
Popp – FX – Boise St – front tuck through to double tuck, hops to present, chest a little down – double tuck, hit –
Kentucky is going to be ahead of Auburn after 3 (!) but they’re both going to be wellll ahead of Georgia and Southern Utah as Georgia fell apart on floor.
Nice double front from Salcedo on FX for Penn St.
Long wait for Lauzon’s score on beam.
Anyway, looks like Cal is going to have .325 heading to floor, which means they’ll be in control with a hit.
Utah State 147.525
Boise State 147.525
Southern Utah 147.125
Auburn regional starting first in this rotation, Hollingsworth – BB – Auburn – bhs loso, secure, a little leggy on the bhs from this angle – switch, pause before switch 1/2 and a large break, leg up to horizontal, turns to the side – split 3/4 is good – side aerial to full, stuck.
Gutierrez – UB – Utah State – maloney to bail, a little loose in back – finishes DLO, legs apart, little hop forward. 9.775
DeSouza falls on her opening floor routine for Cal, overcooks a double pike. It just got interesting. Also goes OOB on her second pass.
Lopez – VT – Boise St – yfull, chest a little forward, only a small step. 9.750
Wells – Ub – Utah – State – arch on first hs – 1/2 turnb to tkatchev to overshoot, solid rhythm – shortish final hs – FTDT, holds stick alllmost into step salute –
Just 8.850 for DeSouza.
Blackson – VT – Boise State – good amplitude on Y1.5, holds onto the stick, deep landing, reminiscent of Shchennikova earlier.
Bordas – FX – Cal – double tuck, solid landing – 1.5 to front layout, clean – switch to switch ring 1/2, a little hoppy on landing – rudi, looks like she kept the front foot down. 9.875
Sonier with a break on beam in the third spot
Kentucky does have a 9.425 on floor from Patterson in there, though the way this is shaping up they can probably feel safe to count that.
Brooks UB – Utah State – good ray to overshoot – DLO, holds the landing well. She gets 9.900. Making sure Cal can’t count a fall.
Boise State went 48.900 on vault.
Pfister huge handspring pike 1/2 on vault but large bounce back.
Clausi – FX – Cal – double pike, little bit of foot movement – switch side to wolf full is around – 1.5 to layout to stag jump, keeps that in bounds – double tuck, under control. 9.925, huge number.
Nearly a stick from Fishwick in the 5th spot for Utah State, step forward on double fornt. Still gets 9.900.
Lauzon – FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front tuck, hit – switch side to popa, looked a little crooked on switch side, good height on popa – 1.5 to layout, a little short with a shuffle – 9.900
High jaeger to overshoot from Jackson anchoring for Utah State, chest forward to FTDT, hop.
Ramler finishing the meet on beam for Minnesota – bhs loso, clean – aerial to beat, no issue – beat to split ring jump, smallest lean – side aerial to layout full, stuck. Good.9.950
Utah State went 49.300 on bars, which means Cal needs 49.000 in this floor rotation.
Li – FX – Cal -front 2/1 with a lunge forward – front full to front layout with a slide forward – a little bouncy on her dance element landings but good positions – not her best landings but did what she needed to get them a hit.
Ramler and Loper tied in the AA. Ramler would win the tiebreak if Minnesota ends up not advancing.
Another 9.900 for Li. So they need a 9.400 from Quinn.
Quinn – FX – Cal – front lay to rudi, secure landing – switch side to popa to wolf jump, over turns switch side – double pike, controls landing, which will be enough.
Tighter than Cal wanted this to be, but they will advance with Minnesota here.
Meanwhile, Kentucky and Auburn ended up advancing by more than a point, so not much exciting in that one, but Kentucky did outscore Auburn, which will have significant implications in terms of things to talk about leading into the regional final.
Quinn is in with 9.925.
Utah State 196.825
Boise State 196.425
Valiant from Utah State, but a tough semifinal to get. Was always going to need counting fall help. Almost got it.
QUALIFIED: Minnesota, Cal
ELIMINATED: Utah State, Boise State
Southern Utah 196.325
QUALIFIED: Kentucky, Auburn
ELIMINATED: Southern Utah, Georgia
So, the big story so far of course has been LSU’s eliminated. You know what they always say: “You can’t count a fall and also kind of eff up bars and hope to advance.” The old adage.
On to the next! Just one SF running for the next couple hours, with Alabama/Michigan State trying to fend off BYU/Washington.
Now the Washington stream has a technical difficulties warning. This is the same regional that had the equipment issue yesterday. Seattle you ok?
Well that sounds like a lunch break for me!
It’s not so much about us, but to do this to Kathy and Bart. KATHY AND BART.
Anyway, Michigan State went 49.200 on vault apparently. That’s about what they would be looking for today. If Washington or BYU want to have a shot today, they’ll need to be ahead of that mark after one rotation.
And we’re back OK. Nice little break actually.
Hudson – FX – Alabama – front 2/1, basically controls the step out, good twisting position – switch 1/2 to wolf jump full, good completion – 2.5, comfortable landing. Good one.
SKW – BB – Washington – aerial, good knee position – into bhs loso, comfortable – kickover, holds it into beat jump – switch to split, hits her 180s – side aerial to 1.5, slide back. Good hit.
49.075 for BYU on bars.
Graber – FX – Alabama – FTDT, good chest up landing – popa, nice toes – switch side to wolf jump 1.5, very nice – double pike, little slide back. Good one also.
SKW goes 9.900 on beam, so Washington is at minimum 49.275.
Thomas – BB – Washington – kickover, break, not connection – swtich to straddle 1/4 is fine – now does a kickover to bhs, gets the combination, check – 1.5, stuck. That should be the drop though.
Michigan State 49.200
Good front 2/1 from Kaziska on FX.
Note that ESPN says BYU is on 49.175, live scores say 49.075, so we shall see.
I feel like you could ask Dana Duckworth, “What did you think about the slime pouring out of that mushroom city?” and she’d be like, “We just stayed in our Bama bubble and I’m so proud of these ladies and the class they show in controlled their adversities.”
In the next rotation, Michigan State will expect to take back 2nd place from Washington because bars has been such a strong event for them lately.
Gaskins – VT – Alabama – clean yfull with good distance, bounce back. 9.825
Stephen – UB – MSU – small arch in first hs – toe on to maloney, hit – toe on to bail, gets to vertical – short cast hs on high – giant full, a little crooked, holds onto landing on double tuck with a lean. 9.825
SKW finishes floor with 1.5 to front full, clean.
Quinn a bit under on her Y1.5 for Alabama, step back.
Olsen – VT – Alabama – love how we cut away but it seems like she stuck it?
Navarro with music issue on FX – now starts – good double tuck control – switch side to popa, maybe a little short on popa but nice foot position – 1.5 to layout, gets a bit low, shuffle – hits double pike, chest position. 9.800
Graber holds onto her landing on her y1.5, rises up onto her toes. And Olsen got 9.950 for hers. 9.900 for Graber.
Paradise – VT – Alabama – 1.5, medium hop forward, a bit of knees
Jackard – UB – MSU – blind to jaeger, solid extension – bail, gets to vertical – maybe a bit shrot on final hs – giant full to double tuck, chest down, step. Not bad but they’ve been missing the landings today. Still goes 9.850.
Hudson a little short on Y1.5 for Alabama, step back.
Thompson – FX – Washington – whip through to double tuck, just does keep front foot down – doubel pike, large bounce back with an additional step.
Schulte has a pretty large bounce back on her DLO in the 5th spot on bars.
Alabama 49.400 on vault.
BYU has three 9.875s to start on beam.
Miner Van Tassell – BB – BYU – side aerial to split jump, hits 180, back knee – bhs loso, secure -swtich to split, check, leg up – 1.5, holds the landing. 9.825
Cunningham – FX – Washington – front through to double tuck, nicely done – switch 1/2 to wolf full to wolf full, clearly around – double pike, little rebound –
Harkness goes 9.900 on bars to get MSU to 49.225 there. A good score but won’t great separation.
Rollins – BB – BYU – switch, small pause before straddle 1/4, good 180s – aerial to bhs loso, leg up, saves it – gainer full, bounce back
Good Hindorff from Davis on bars for Nebraska as an individual.
Davis – FX – Washington – rudi to loso is clean – split leap full to popa, lands a bit under – front 2/1, leg crossing, controls
Margraf – BB – BYU – good position in split jump – front aerial, just does keep arms moving into back tuck – switch 1/2, small check before beat jump, a little under switch to split, nice – punch front full dismount, step to the side.
Davis went 9.900 on floor as well after Cunningham. Surprised that was in the 9.90s
Brooks – FX – Washington – 1.5 to layout, lovely elevation on layout – split ring jump full – switch ring to wolf hop full is a bit low and ragged – front lay to front full, lands under, step back.
Regardless of that score Washington will stay ahead of MSU.
Michigan State 98.425
We’ve got a meet. MSU’s beam can be the top scoring rotation of the three challengers coming up, but now they have to worry about BYU’s floor in addition to Washington. The problem for Washington is that the lowest 2 scoring events are coming up. They’ll have to overperform from here on out despite being in 2nd.
Waligora – UB – Alabama – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good amplitude – solid cast hs on high – DLO1/1, stuck it.
Large bounce back for Davis on vault leading off for Washington.
Wiedeman – BB – MSU – bhs loso, secure, closed hip angle throughout – full turn, little arm wave – cat leap to kickover, a tad deep, works it out into beat jump – straddle jump 3/4, some feet – gainer tuck full, rises onto toes to hold it. 9.800
Brooks with a little hop forward on her Y1/2
Waligora got 9.950 in the first spot for Alabama.
Navarro – VT – Washington – Y1.5, a bit of legs in the air – small slide back. 9.875
Shania Adams small hop back on double tuck bars dismount.
Kalefe – BB – MSU – bhs bhs loso, secure – switch to tuck jump full – gainer full, stuck. 9.875
SKW – VT – Washington – yfull good late twist – small bounce, pikes it down some at the end. 9.900?
Machado was late on her full turn into dismount on bars, but fine.
Cunningham – VT – Washington – sticks her yfull, just a bit forward, but based on how vault scoring is going, it will be huge. 9.925 for her.
Stephen – BB – MSU – kickover to two feet, holds it with a little lean – bhs loso, covers a possible check well – beat to straddle 1/2, back leg position was off – 2/1, stuck. Good.
Thompson – VT – Washington – she tried for the stick but landed short with a hop forward, so missed opportunity there.
Washington still goes 49.350, which is a big deal for them. I thought vault scoring was very high.
Big limp for Doggette after her bars landing. And now she has to crawl into the corral.
Blanco is in on bars and hits – ginger on her foot on the landing and she’s also limping off somewhat.
Everything is 9.900 on bars and Alabama goes 49.550 there.
Schulte went 9.925 on beam, and now it’s Mitchell – bhs bsh loso, large break, bend at the hips to horizontal – aerial, short, another fairly significant break, arm wave and turns to the side –
Rieder – FX – BYU – front 1.5 to front tuck, some legs in the 1.5 – switch side to wolf full, over turned the switch side into the wolf – loso – rudi is under control. 9.850
Garcia – BB – MSU – smooth full turn – bhs loso, small check, turns a little to the side – aerial to split jump, clean – switch to split, good positions – side aerial to layout full, holds landing.
Miner Van Tassell – FX – BYU – good landing on DLO – double pike, bounce back out of it – switch leap full to wolf full to pike shushunova – 1.5 to front full, controls it, a bit of knees – 9.875
MSU and Washington both 49.350, so Washington will retain a .1 lead heading to the final event. But that’s floor for MSU.
Vitkauskas – FX – BYU – front 2/1, slide forward – 1.5 to layout, good position, another slight slide – switch side to popa, clear popa position – rudi, controls front foot. BYU will trail but this will keep them in sight. 9.875
Michigan State 147.775
If we go to NQS, Michigan State’s on floor is 49.470 while Washington’s on bars is 49.095, which is why Michigan State would still like its chances the most. BYU just hoping to get some of that vault scoring goodness too for a season high.
Ewing – BB – MSU – front 2/1, just a bit of knees, controlled – 1.5 to just a tuck 1/2, saved it to do an element but not what MSU wanted, off on the punch. 9.625
SKW sticks double tuck well out of a clean leadoff routine. And it’s a 9.900. Big deal.
BYU starts with 9.800 from Pitou. Rollins 2nd – ound off full on back tuck, a bit low, lunge back.
Russon – UB – Washington – a bit short on first hs – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good toes, clean overshoot – slightly hesitant cast but gets up there – gaint full into double tuck, holds the landing but deep position. 9.900. It’s good to be home?
Smith – FX – MSU – fron ttuck through to double tuck, pretty good, just a little movement – switch side to popa, good extension – 1.5 to layout – double pike, hop to present, chest a bit down. 9.875
Olsen stuck her double pike beam dismount. Alabama looks fine.
Brooks – UB – Washington – shortish first hs – shaposh to clear hip to bail, legs apart a few times, also a little arch on the bail – giant full, legs into double tuck, bounce back. Ragged but a hit. Still goes 9.800.
Griffith got a 9.900 for BYU on her y1/2, but a fall follows her from Miner Van Tassell
Mitchell – FX – MSU – double tuck, solid control – 1.5 to layout, got really low, does a good job to pull it around but a flat pass – switch side to popa, good leap positions – double pike, holds onto the landing, chest a little forward. 9.875
Alvarado finishes BYU with a hit, but they didn’t quite get the scores they needed.
Thompson – UB – Washington – short first hs – blind to jaeger, solid – bail, hit, a bit of hip angle – good hs on high – DLO, pretty position, bounce back. 9.850
BYU is done with 196.625. As much as they could have asked for today.
Adams getting into the act on beam for Alabama since they are cruising to the win here.
Harkness – FX – MSU – chest up well on FTDT but a little ginger on landing with a step – switch to split leap full to wolf full, good positions, step back – front tuck through to double tuck, controls landing well, not the highest but solid. 9.900
Thomas – UB – Washington – jaeger, hit, soft form – well short on cast hs on high – pak, legs apart – short cast hs again – DLO, flung out, lunge forward. Will need to drop that one. Still gets 9.750.
Schulte – FX – MSU – FTDT, good control on landing – switch 1/2 to popa to straddle, nice 180s shown – very nice double tuck, should score well. 9.950
Bowles finishes for Washington with a DLO, step forward, leans forward. Some handstands and form in there, so I don’t see a big score coming, really.
Bowles gets 9.850 (???) to give Washington 49.300. But MSU just needs a normal hit now. Just a 9.825 needed.
Hofelich – FX – MSU – double pike, good, small bounce back – back 1.5 to front layout, dance out – double tuck, holds the stick. Well, that should do it.
And she goes 9.950
Michigan State 197.325
A close one and a valiant effort from Washington but ulimately I think justice was done there as Michigan State really did have the stronger competition of the two teams. But this is why teams hate going away for regionals because things like those last two rotation scores for Washington can happen.
QUALIFIED: Alabama, Michigan State
ELIMINATED: Washington, BYU
Oh look we’re halfway done with today!
We’ll have an hour to spend with the NC State regional before things get messy. The elimination of LSU from this regional has opened a door. We’ll see if UCLA shows enough today to look like a contender, or whether that door is just open for Missouri (and Iowa?).
In this semifinal, UCLA starts on vault and Maryland starts on bars. Maryland has looked good on bars this year and has some 49.4s, so the sign something might be up today is if Maryland has tenths on UCLA after the first rotation.
The one main lineup question for UCLA: Moors is being used only on floor.
Looks like NC State has updated the earlier scoring page instead of going to a new one? At least so far. I’ve changed the link on the links page.
Annnd Koulos is in the floor lineup for Michigan instead of Brooks. Hm.
Flatley – VT – UCLA – yfull, good open on hers, only small movement on landing. 9.850
Brenner – FX – Michigan – full in, controls landing, some chest position – 1.5 to layout, hit – double pike, small slide. 9.875
Summey has a leadoff fall on beam for UNC.
Malabuyo – VT – UCLA – also only a smaller hop on her yfull. 9.800
Kondo – UB – Maryland – jaeger to overshoot, hit, just a bit of feet – gets to vertical on cast on high – DLO, chest forward, step. 9.750
Chiles – VT – UCLA – they’re controlling pretty well so far, Tsuk full with a little hop. And 9.925 for it.
Poston – VT – UCLA – handspring pike 1/2, pretty large bounce back, chest not too low. 9.850
LeBlanc with a hop in place on dismount on bars for Maryland. 9.800
Heiskell – FX – Michigan – double arabian, lunge but pretty well controlled – very clean 1.5 to layout – switch 1/2 to wolf full, good – double pike. 9.900
Wright – VT – UCLA – only yfull, solid height, hop back, knee position – still gets 9.850
Campbell – VT – UCLA good usual yfull, small bounce. And she gets 9.925 as well.
DeBarberie goes over the wrong way on her initial cast hs on bars.
UCLA gets 49.400 on vault. I have a couple questions. But a solid vault performance.
Wojcik – FX – Michigan – front 2/1 to front pike, lunge forward, looks like she kept it in bounds, or not – gets her positions on leaps of course but a little out of control – double pike good – rudi to straddle with a travel back
Silberman with a good gienger on bars for Maryland – finishes with a rough DLO, lunge forward, 9.575 that will have to count.
Culton – BB – UNC – bhs loso, lovely – cat leap to switch side, comfortable – hesitation before her aerial, does it well into beat jump, but a definite pause – side aerial to full, a bit of pike, step back
Tsiknias – UB – Maryland – blind to jaeger, good height – hits vertical on bail pretty well – DLO, bounce back
Morrison – FX – Michigan – FTDT, lunge back – front lay to front full, solid but another slide – switch 1/2 to wolf full, great height – double tuck, great position.
Barber – UB – Maryland – clear hip to Hindorff to overshoot, hit – good hs on high – DLO, step back.
Knower – BB – UNC – bhs loso, small shift to one side – kickover, check – beat to switch 1/2, large break, keeps it on but a huge break, bend forward at the hips, leg up – 1.5, stuck. 9.675 that will count.
Wilson – FX – Michigan – open FTDT, controlled step, chest up – front lay to front full to front tuck – switch side to popa, good height – double tuck, strong, controlled
Koulos – FX – Michigan – switch 1/2, nice position – front lay to front full to front tuck, a bit short with a step back – popa to straight jump 1.5, gets it around, a lunge back to control on landing – 2.5, lunge forward, definitely OOB on that one. 9.650
Joyner – BB – Rutgers – smooth full turn – bhs loso series, good height – switch, small pause before switch 1/2, nice – side aerial to layout full.
UNC had another fall in the 6th spot so goes 48.325 on beam
North Carolina 48.325
This one presenting as a snoozer after the first rotation. I’m a bit concerned about what that vault scoring means for what the judges are going to do for Michigan’s lineup, if that was 49.400…
Guggino just plopped a Y1.5 to leadoff for Michigan, well short
Campbell – UB – UCLA – hits Maloney to bail, a bit of legs – double front, cowboy, hop forward. 9.800
Wojcik – VT – Michigan – solid enough y1.5, a little short, shuffle back. Terrible angle for seeing anything though.
Weir splits the beam for Maryland first up.
Esparza – UB – UCLA – good first hs – maloney to pka, pretty pak – good hs on low – van leeuwen, legs together – DLO, holds the stick. 9.900
Heiskell – VT – Michigan – good y1.5, medium hop forward.
Silberman – BB – Maryland – bhs bhs loso, knees, wobble, leg up
Morrison – VT – Michigan – more like it, shuffle to the side on her 1.5 – 9.900
Padurariu hits bars for UCLA with a stick on her double tuck. 9.900
Brooks – VT – Michigan – a little short on her Y1.5, step back
Malabuyo – UB – UCLA – good first hs – maloney to pak, pretty height on pak but can’t cast out, has to pause and double cast – DLO, bounce back.
Wilson – VT – Michigan – also a little short, step back
Michigan’s vault OK but a couple short landings and a little meh overall. 49.375.
Kogler – BB – Maryland – solid work on bhs bhs loso series – they have a 9.750 and 9.800 to count so far – switch to split, a bit of back leg on switch –
Chiles – UB – UCLA – piked tkatchev to pak, lovely – maloney to gienger, a bit close on gienger, good legs throughout – solid cast hs – FTDT, comfortable landing. Nice. She was following 9.450 from Malabuyo. 9.950
Flatley – UB – UCLA – higgins to jaeger, good feet positions – toe on to bail, nice leg position again – DLO, basically holds landing long enough before salute. Good one. 9.925 for her.
UCLA goes 49.475 on bars.
Barber – BB – Maryland – aerial to beat jump, a little lean in combination, good extension on aerial – bhs loso, solid – kickover, large break, bend to the side and leg up – switch to split – 2/1 is stuck, but that large error will have to count.
Nice final double tuck from Knower on floor for UNC.
Barber still gets 9.800 with a .200 wobble, so Maryland goes to 49.150 on beam, but will drop more ground on the leaders.
Weil – FX – UNC – round off double tuck is good, chest up, small slide – front full to layout, solid – switch side to popa – ish? Overturns some, unclear landing positions – double pike, slide
North Carolina 97.375
With a big lead for Michigan and UCLA, I’m going to see what’s happening elsewhere when the next semifinals get underway. It looks like we’re in a position where Michigan and UCLA can count a fall and still be OK now.
Now, as for the Arkansas/Arizona State and Denver/Ohio State situations, it seems like there’s going to be a lot to live through.
Rotation 1 – Oklahoma and Auburn
Actually maybe I wasn’t supposed to move away from NC State. Heiskell has opened Michigan’s bars rotation with a fall.
Jaslow – VT – ASU – very large bounce back on yfull. 9.675
Smith – Ub – Arkansas – maloney to bail, legs together pretty well – a bit short on final cast hs – DLO, bounce back. 9.800
White – VT – ASU – pretty solid control on her landing, a little movement forward. 9.750
Scalzo – UB – Arkansas – blind to jaeger to overshoot, comfortable – good cast hs on high – DLO, hop back.
Reeves nearly falls on VT for ASU. Yurchenko tucked 1.5, nearly sits it, very very deep squat.
UCLA has a miss from Chiles in the second spot on beam. Significant for AA qualification purposes.
Jones – UB – Arkansas – piked jaeger to pak, clean legs on pak – DLO, holds the landing, pikes down a little to find the stick.
Scharf – VT – ASU – good open on yfull, little slide –
Schaffer – UB – Arkansas – toe on to maloney to bail, legs position solid – hits cast hs on high – DLO, sticks it.
Redmond finishes vault for ASU, large bounce back on yfull and some legs on block.
Ohio State with the scoring edge on Denver in this first rotation.
Hambrick – UB – Arkansas – piked jaeger to overshoot, good amplitude – FTDT, a bit deep but holds the landing with a lean.
Florida dealing with an early 9.700 from Richards on floor. But also 9.925 from Skaggs.
Schaffer just went 9.950 onm bars. Huge edge for Arkansas over Arizona State after one rotation as ASU won’t go over 49 here.
O’Hara finishes bars for Arkansas, hits jaeger and bail – solid cast hs on high – DLO, bounce back
Denver went 49.000 on vault, and Ohio State will be way ahead of that on bars. 49.400.
Arkansas 49.450 on bars to ASU’s 48.800 on vault.
Malabuyo has a big break on beam, stays on but will have to count that. And can because of the lead they had going in.
Anyway, now there’s a chance to look at Thomas on FX for Florida – DLO, nailed landing – split leap full to popa to popa, huge – 1.5 to layout, super clean. Excellent.
Iowa State will also have a lead on Denver after their beam rotation.
Mueller has a fall on beam for Arizona, which means they’re counting a 9.700 there.
Smith – FX – Oklahoma – double tuck, bounce back – 1.5 to layout, good height, crisp position – switch side to wolf full, pretty – double pike, bounce back.
Meanwhile Thomas got our first 10.000 of the day with her floor routine.
Florida went 49.700 on floor, so there’s that.
Linton – BB – Arizona – wolf double, hit – bhs bhs loso, secure work – switch to split – side aerial to full, some knees, holds the landing.
We still don’t have a bars score reported for Koulos for Michigan.
Arizona St 48.800
Lottttsssss of work to do for Arizona State now. More dramatic case than what we saw for Cal in the earlier session.
Ohio State 49.400
Iowa State 49.150
Denver also with a lot of work to do, but they will have expected to be back after vault and will aim to pull it together on bars and beam.
Koulos ended up with 9.700 on bars for Michigan, which will count. They’ll stay behind UCLA but have more than a point of buffer on Maryland going to the last rotation.
Bev explains that Michigan will get a tenth for going out of order because they had Vore in the lineup instead of Koulos.
Pritchard – BB – Ohio State – side aerial, solid – bhs loso, some feet, hit – switch to straddle 1/4, small check – side aerial to layout full, leans forward to try to hold the landing
Ruiz – Ub – Denver – giant full to tkatchev, hit – short cast hs on high – bail, hit – DLO, a little whippy, small bounce
Schoenherr falls on her Y1.5 –
Hankins with a break at the hips in the second spot for Ohio State on her series
Wong hits her vault – 1/2 on pike 1/2, bounce back
Casali comes in a little short on her DLO on bars, hop forward. Second 9.850 in a row for them.
Thomas – VT – Florida – good Y1.5, little hop forward
Florida had Edwards and Clark in the vault rotation today. They’re like, “we got this and are resting for tomorrow.”
Denver picking the scores back up on bars, but everyone has been a little short with a hop on landing.
Leah Smith on beam for Arkansas after 9.775 from Gamiao. She’s short on her straddle 1/4 position – double tuck with a pretty large bounce back. She goes 9.675. Opening the door.
Mundell – UB – Denver – Nice tkatchev, toe on to bail, clean – short cast hs on high – DLO, lchest down but controlled.
Jennings – BB – Ohio State – bhs, tries to connect to side aerial but it’s going to be a hudgement cal – split 1/2, hit – aginer full, slide back.
It’s going to be 49.325 on bars for Denver nonetheless. That should help gain some ground back.
Warga – BB – Ohio State – little hesitation on full turn – aerial, check before bhs – switch 1/2, little check – kickover, arm wave and turn to the side to control it – solid dismount.
Costa for Brown falls on bars.
Looks like it was Loyim on floor for Iowa State with a multi-fall floor routine.
Airzona State went 49.150 on bars. OK, but not as high as they wanted.
Hambrick – BB – Arkansas – they’re counting 9.775 and 9.800, so she’ll want to bring up those scores – good full turn – bhs loso, secure, some knees – switch, small hesitation into switch 1/2 but good – beat to straddle 3/4, solid – gainer full, hop back. 9.875
Wojcik is finishing up for Michigan on beam, trying to drop Heiskell’s fall but it acctually doesn’t matter. Chiles finishes FX with a controlled double pike. Her opening DLO was excellent.
Elswick – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso, clean – split to split jump 3/4, lean forward to control it – aerial, check – hop on dismount
Hargrove – FX – Arizona – Arizona getting a huge floor score so far – FTDT, chest downb, controlled – 1/2 to front full – split leap full, around – double tuck, controls the step.
Chae Campbell sticks a double tuck to finish that meet, with UCLA and Michigan going through easily.
QUALIFIED: UCLA, Michigan
ELIMINATED: Maryland, North Carolina
Arizona will stay ahead of Arkansas after 2 events. Arizona State will remain well back in 4th.
Ohio State 98.500
Iowa State 98.350
This thing is still verrrry close, but Denver will have to make a move on beam now. Florida closer to the pack than they would like because of that very B team vault rotation.
Arizona State 97.950
Arizona acting as the surprise so far, but vault has been a journey this year with a lot of 48s, which can’t happen if they are to keep this going today.
Loving our technical difficulties shifting to the Oklahoma regional now.
Blakely – Ub – Florida – maloney to pak, small leg break – solid 1/2 turn position on low – toe 1/2 to front giant to double front, large lunge forward. 9.800
Ruiz on beam good save on her series to minimize error with just a small check – side aerial hit into split jump – gainer pike, stuck. 9.825
McCusker – UB – Florida – maloney to pak, clean – hits cast hs – van leeuwen – good cast – stalder to double tuck, lunge back but better for her.
Mabanta – BB – Denver – good wolf turn – bhs loso, lovely foot position but a check – split leap – switch 1/2, very high to split jump -bhs 1.5, small shuffle

Hankins has an OOb in third third spot on FX for Ohio State.
Perfect DLO from Thomas finishing bars.

Iowa State 49.100 on vault –
Thomas with her second 10.000 of the day.
Edwards – FX – Ohio State – big double pike, slide back -1.5 to layout, little shuffle, stays in bounds – switch side to popa, good elevation – doubel tuck, controlled step –
Hutchinson – BB – Denver – kickover to bhs, smooth – switch to split, no trouble – kickover, secure –
W’re back in action on the Oklahoma stream. Arizona did go under 49 on vault, so a big opening for Arkansas here on floor.
Muindell – BB – Denver – bhs loso, arm wave correction – switch, pauses before switch 1/2, adds a beat jump afterward with a check. 9.750
Hlavach – FX – Ohio State – piked full in, controls the step, chest down – 1.5 to layout, clean layout position – switch side to split full to straddle full, split full was a little shy of position, around – double tuck is good. 9.850
Leah Smith on FX for Arkansas, struggled on her first pass landing and then only does a back tuck second pass and stops. Uh oh.
Denver 49.300 on beam.
Grimes – FX – Ohio State – double pike, chest just a bit forward – 1.5 to layout, control, leg separation – switch side to popa, under on switch side, popa is higher – doubel tuck, short again, step forward
Meanwhile, Arizona State has Scahrf in the 6 spot on beam – wolf double is good – bhs loso, secure, some feet – side somi, small check to hold it – switch to split, some back leg position – 1.5 dismount, off line and a leg-up balance check to try to hold the landing.
Ohio State got a 9.800 in the final spot from Grimes and will be tied with Denver for 2nd place going to the last rotation. Ohio State on vault, Denver on floor. That’s up for either team. And Iowa State is not that far out going to bars. This one should be fun.
Ohio State 147.625
Iowa State 147.450
Meanwhile, Arizona State went 49.150 on beam, still well behind Arizona despite gaining some ground.
Arkansas still hasn’t resumed floor after the Smith injury. Hambrick still waiting to go in the 5th spot. Stab me in the eye.
Hambrick – FX – Arkansas – double tuck, bounce back – rudi to back layout to double stag is good – switch 1/2 to popa – double pike, chest down, controls the step back. 9.900.
Lovett – FX – Arkansas – DLO, controls step – double tuck, same, chest up – switch 1/2 to popa, good extension, step back to control landing – front lay to front full, solid.
Final rotation underway in Auburn. Edwards with a very good yfull for Ohio State in the third spot. And she got a perfect 9.950 for it. Here we go.
Iwai started floor for Denver with 9.850.
Arkansas got 9.925 on floor for Lovett and will have a solid lead going to vault.

Mabanta with a clean 1.5 to layout for Denver on floor, not the highest –
Malas finishes Ohio State with a yfull, good landing, flexed feet in the air and some leg separation.
We have Ohio State done on 196.925, so that will be the mark.
Basuel – UB – Iowa State – short first hs – blind to jaeger, nice floaty – better next hs – not quite to vertical on bail hs – lovely final cast hs position – DLO, whips it over to find landing but does, stuck.
Mundell – FX – Denver – double pike, little bounce back – switch ring was not there for ring, but a solid split position – front lay to front full, a tad under, leg separation – punch rudi, just a small rebound. 9.875
Orrego – IUB -ISU – maloney to pak is solid – a little late on 1/2 turn on low – good cast hs on high – DLO, chest down, hop forward. They’ll come up just short of Ohio State.
Denver needs better than 49.300 on floor and is about to get there.
Thompson – FX – Denver – double pike, slide back – switch side to popa to popa, a tad short of position – front lay to rudi, larger bounce back – leg guitar –
9.975 for Thoams on beam. 39.875 on the day.
Denver gets 9.825 from Thompson and will finish ahead of Ohio State and Iowa State regardless of what Hutchinson scores.
QUALIFIED: Florida, Denver
ELIMINATED: Ohio State, Iowa State
We’re underway in the final rotation at Oklahoma. Arkansas has opened vault with 9.750 and 9.800, although they don’t need to be ideal here.
Schaffer – VT – Arkansas – another very clean Y1/2, slide back today. 9.800
McCabe – Ub – Arizona – 3rd up for them – blind to piked jaeger, a bit close, hind handstand afterward – giant full, a bit of angle on bail hs catch – DLO, legs, step back. Following 9.850 and 9.825. She goes 9.800.
Elswick – VT – Arkansas – clean yfull, small hop, good position. 9.825

Arkansas will scratch Smith on vault and go 49.075 there. 196.975.

QUALIFIED: Oklahoma, Arkansas
ELIMINATED: Arizona, Arizona State
So now we have two seeded teams eliminated so far, LSU and Arizona State. One semifinal to go, coming up in a few minutes as Oregon State tries to fend off Illinois and Stanford.
Wellllll looks who’s not having any techinical difficulties at the beginning this time…
News is that Abby Paulson was injured in the warmup and will not compete for Utah.
Garcia – VT – Oregon St – good distance on her yfull, not the most height, bounce back. 9.800
Gilstrap was sitting in the fetal position to start her routine for 509 minutes before stepping off.
Gutierrez opens beam with a hit for Stanford. Lineup change.
Borden – UB – Illinois – hits jaeger to overshoot, a little crooked but good toes – shy on final cast hs – rudi dismount, finds landing.
Gilstrap lands short on a rudi
Letzsch – VT – Oregon State – better height on her yfull but another bounce back
Good bhs bhs loso series for Navarro in the 2nd spot for Stanford – switch to split to straddle 1/4, hits initial position in switch, shorter on subsequent elements – 1.5, stuck. 9.875

Illinois goes 49.400 on bars to Oregon State’s 49.325 on vault, and now it’s 49.350 for Stanford. I
Soloski – FX – Utah – DLO, steps back and OOB – switch 1/2 to split leap full, some foot form – front lay to front full, controls dance out – 1.5 to front lay, nice rise into layout, smooth layout shape.
Wait is Utah going to be in last after floor?
Yep, it’s 9.775 for Soloski and Utah is on 49.300. You wouldn’t expect that to continue, but it’s something.
Oregon St 49.325
This regional had loose scoring in the first semifinal, so be ready for an experience tonight. This is shaping up to be one of those where every routine is the same regardless of quality.
O’Keefe opens vault for Utah with a solid full, small movement, clean position. And gets 9.900.
Yamaoka got late on her giant full into dismount on bars but worked it out.
Borden really has to lean through her aerial fhs series

Rucker – VT – utah – clean Y1.5 in the air but lands well short, step back and another little step. Still 9.775.

McCallum has a larger bounce back on her vault. 9.800
Nice rudi from Brunette on floor for Stanford.
Hall – Vt – utah – out of control on her y1.5 with a large bound forward, which is the opposite error from usual. So three meh vaults to go along with three good ones for Utah. Which means a 49.325, same vault score as Oregon State. Won’t create separation with that.
Mueller – BB – Illinois – bhs loso with a check, arm wave – switch to switch, good 180 position – beat to kickover, holds it, little correction – 1.5, short with a slide back
Jakubczyk has to take an empty swing on bars after her shaposh.

Carey – UB – Oregon St – small arch in first hs – maloney to bhardwaj, excellent – van leeuwen, legs together – rushes cast hs on high – FTDT, little rebound in place. Good. Jade Carey saves the rotation for the millionth time. 9.925
Oregon State goes 49.150 on bars, will fall behind Utah by .150.
Lawson hits her 1.5 to double tuck on floor – hits a split leap full but doesn’t get close to split on her split jump full after that, seemed like she pulled out of the element – double pike, chest a bit forward, step
Knight – BB – Illinois – candle mount, good – switch to sissone, nice – side aerial to bhs, pretty solid extension there – side somi and connects into her back tuck full dismount, a little ragged with a step
Bryant – FX – Stanford – FTDT, very solid, chest up, landing control – front tuck through to double pike, also an excellent landing – switch side to popa, looked a little crooked on switch side – double tuck, keeps front foot down. That will keep Stanford ahead of Utah. 9.950 for her.
Takekawa – BB -Illinois – side aerial to bhs, solidly done – full turn, check, turns to the side – switch to straddle 1/4, good split, another arm movement to correct though – bhs gainer full, stuck. Not her best but should raise the team total.
Oregon St 98.475
So this is still happening. You expect Utah to pull this together, especially with Stanford and Illinois still to vault, but that would have to happen at some point.
Koeth from Sac State had a very jarring landing on beam and was evaluated, then got up to continue her beam routine, which is the first instance I’ve seen this season of the new 2 minute medical evaluation period being used.
Can we not look back at Hoda embarrassing herself all over the Olympics and acting like she was part of the team?

Navarro – VT – Stafnord – hits a yfull, better distance but a bounce back and some flexed feet
McCallum falls on bars for Utah. Looked like she missed her foot going into her van leeuwen and had to stop. She gets 9.400. Didn’t Kathy say she also hit her foot on resuming?
Gutierrez – VT – Stanford – solid y1.5, only a small hop in place, some leg form, not quite as high as the Utah vaults. 9.900
Burch – UB – Utah – good jaeger, clean bail – DLO, small slide back. 9.950 oh dear.
Neault chest way down on round off full on back pike. Still goes 9.775

The judges are so drunk tonight.
Thompson – UB – Utah – pretty pak – a bit shy on a couple handstands but good van leeuwen – DLO, bounce back. 9.850
Bryant – VT – Stanford – hop back on yfull, smaller hop than Brunette, good position in the air. How did she get a lower score than Brunette?
O’Keefe – Ub – Utah – good hs – maloney to pak, smooth – 1/2 turn on low, a bit late – solid final cast hs – doubele arabian, step forward. 9.900
Stanford goes 49.225 on vault, which will make them somewhat vulnerable.
Oregon State had big numbers from the first three on beam – Gonzales falls on her series in the 4th spot.

Carey – BB – Oregon St – aerial, good position – bhs loso, secure – switch to switch 1/2 to beat, not quite there on switch 1/2, not too bad – gainer full, hop in place. 9.975????
Townes is good on the front 2/1 in the anchor spot for Illinois – wolf jump 1.5, gets it around – 1.5 to front full, controls step – split leap full to popa, under on split leap – 9.875
Oregon St 147.950
Just a casual .150 separating four teams. Utah moves in front by a tad. Now how do they react to not having Paulson in the beam lineup? Oregon State is planning to go with Yanish in the floor lineup.
Young – FX – Oregon St – double pike, controlled step –
Morgan – BB – Utah – bhs bhs loso, small lean, some feet – switch to to split, good leg position on switch, a little lower on split – full turn, hit – beat to side aerial to layout full, stuck. 9.900

Clean yfull for Simons to finish vault for Illinois.
Simons goes 9.900. Illinois 49.225 on vault to set the final at 197.300.
Stanford moves ahead of Illinois with Widner to come
Dagen – FX – Oregon St – punch front 2/1 with a lunge forward – does have a bounce back on her double pike, does stay in bounds.

She needs a 10 to move into a tie with Stanford with one person to go.
Carey goes 9.975, so Oregon State needs a counter from Yanish in the final spot. Must go over 9.850.
O’keefe hits a clean beam to finish it for Utah.
Actually Stanford would win the tiebreak over Oregon State, so Oregon State needs 9.900 from Yanish to advance.
Yanish – FX – Oregon St – DLO, solid landing, maybe a little slide – front full to front lay, liuttle slide forward – switch side to popa, a bit under on the popa position – double tuck, chest down! Hop forward! For me, that would take away the 9.9. We’ll see what they do.
It’s 9.825 for Yanish. They won’t pass Stanford. Stanford advances to the regional final (!) from the play in.
Oregon State 197.425
So that was a thing.
We have three seeds eliminated today: LSU, Arizona State, Oregon State
Advancing: Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, Auburn, Minnesota, Cal, Alabama, Michigan State, Michigan, UCLA, Florida, Denver, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Utah, Stanford
