World Championships Women’s All-Around Live Blog

After the waking trauma response that was the men’s and women’s team finals, we arrive at the all-around portion of the competition. Because let’s see how everyone does when they are even more tired!

The first news is the withdrawals, with Flavia Saraiva pulling out (replaced by first reserve Maellyse Brassart), Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos pulling out (replaced by Aline Friess, who was 2-perred), and Tang Xijing pulling out (replaced by second reserve Karina Schoenmaier), as well as third reserve Natalia Escalera pulling out of the reserve list (replaced by fourth reserve Anna-Lena Koenig). So that’s just great. Everything is going fine.

Today, if everything goes to plan, Rebeca Andrade should take the lead with vault and not relinquish it the entire time, so if at any point you see her not in first place, things haven’t gone to plan.

In the first rotation, expect Andrade’s Cheng to put her in first and Carey’s Cheng to put her in second, and then we’re looking at the other DTYs from Jones and Gadirova and the bars routines from D’Amato and Visser as the top potential scores, so they’ll all hope to outdo each other for that third spot after one event.

In the second rotation, Jones will look to use her bars score to move into second place (if she’s not in 2nd after two events, her medal hopes will have taken a hit), though we probably won’t have much of a sense of the wide open race for the bronze and perhaps silver medals until the lead group has all gone to beam and we’ve seen who survived. In terms of late comers, keep an eye on Kinsella. She’ll probably start out down in the standings because she’s in the beam group, but she ends on two possibles 14s.

Fragapane is standing on the mat to be interviewed by Nush and she’s still significantly shorter than her.

Intros starting now. Not sure if Gadirova thrives in the spotlight. It’s so hard to tell.

Eythora is FEVERISHLY prepping the bars with the chalk umbrella during this intro group.

They did not fix the graphic, so Freiss was introduced with Melanie’s picture and name.

Rotation 1

Schoenmaier hits her front tuck beam mount with a check – switch to split, solid – bhs loso, no trouble – full turn, small arm wave – side aerial, check – side somi, a step to the side and a len forward but she keeps it on – 2/1, bounce back. A hit.

Carey – VT – They’ve been done with the vault warmup for a while so looks like she’s being held until the end of floor – Cheng is pretty much her usual, smaller hop to the side – knees, legs apart on block

Visser – UB – stalder tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova attempt and hits her legs on the mat – can’t get her 1/2 turn on low and hops off

Casabuena gets a very good 13.333 on floor.

14.733 for Carey.

Jones – VT – DTY – very good control on her landing, the best DTY she has done here – just a bit of direction, nearly into the red, small shuffle of the toes.

Godwin – BB – switch mount, hit – side somi, solid – bhs loso, arm wave check – switch, back leg – pause before side aerial, leg up wobble – wolf triple is solid – double pike, hop back

14.233 for Jones.

Andrade – VT – magnificent Cheng, small hop back.

Miyata through bars with a hit.

Barbosu 11.933 on floor. Godwin 12.400 on beam.

Kinsella – BB – switch mount, small pause – aerial to split, hit – side aerial loso loso hit with a small lean – wolf double, solid – pulls out her double pike dismount, head nearly on mat, for a beam hit.

15.166 for Andrade.

D’Amato – UB – maloney to tkatchev, hit today – stalder tkatchev piked to pak to van leeuwen and she peels off on the van leeuwen.

Gadirova – VT – struggles on her DTY today, nice in the air, but chest down and a larde lunge to the side and out of bounds

13.100 for Kinsella on beam. 13.266 for Alice on bars.

Friess – UB – maloney, good height to clear hip to pak, straddled – toe full, solid finish position to van leeuwen, blind to jaeger, low but hit – doubel front, deep, pulls it out. Solid. 13.000

Maggio hits her Y1/5 with a hop forward today.

Vaelen falls on beam. Good DLO from Kuusikko in a hit floor routine.

Black – UB – maloney to hindorff, good – black to yezhova, hit well – van leeuwen, strong – giant full – toe tuck 1/2, stuck landing. Really good one!

Brown – FX – wolf 2.35 – double tuck, bounce up and back – falls on final double pike

Yamasa – BB – wolf double, good – swtich, leg-up check – bhs loso, secure, some knee position – front tuck, very deep, pulls it out – aerial, check – wolg to sissone, hit – split ring jump, secure – side aerial, good – double pike, hop back.

Brassart – UB – Maloney to tkatchev, hit – toe full, pulls it out verticall, to pak – van leeuwen, some legs – toe on – blind to front giant to double front 1/2 out, small hop. Nice one.

Lee YS – FX – double y, gets it around, slightly falls out of it – double tuck, jarred back – 3/1, large stumble, a couple bounces on one foot – switch ring to switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to front full, hop, some knees – wolf 1.5 – double pike, deep, hop back

Heduit – BB – switch mount, hit – wolf doubel, hit with a little arm lean – onodi, secure – side aerial to loso, off line and falls – switch to sissone, lovely back leg position – aerial, small check – double pike, stuck, chest down.

After 1:
Andrade – 15.166
Carey – 14.733
Jones – 14.233
Maggio – 14.033
Black – 13.933

Rotation 2

The lady who just shook her head at the guy when he tried to get her to do the in-arena entertainment is my hero.

Miyata – BB – switchmount, hit – layout 2 feet, solid – switch to sissone – aerial to split – double turn nearly falls apart, saves it with a bend at the hips – side aerial, another larger check – side somi is hit – double pike, solid landing, a couple steps.

Godwin has a couple lunges forward OOB on her double front

Jones – UB – good first hs – stalder full to stalder shap to tkatchev, hit – toe full to Downie to pak, small leg break – van leeuwen – toe 1/2 to front giant to double front, larger lunge forward. Hit.

Volleman secure landing on FTY, small hop back.

12.966 for Miyata. Godwin still goes 13.033 which is not bad.

Kinsella – FX – 1.5 through to 3/1, secure, small hop back – back 2.5 to front full, controls landing, slide, knees – wolf double is around – split leap full to switch full, maybe not quite around – double pike, bounce back.

14.366 for Jones.

Andrade – UB – maloney, good to stakder full,a  lit late into piked tkatchev to pak to van leeuwen, hit – goes over on her cast! – corrects to do piked jaeger – toe full, very late into FTDT, step back. Well, she stayed on but several errors in there. She can afford that, but it puts more pressure on beam.

Friess is off beam on her 2 foot layout.

Kinsella goes 13.633 on floor, which is a big number for her in her bronze quest.

Vaelen with nice amplitude on a split leap full on floor.

Andrade still manages to eke out a 13.800 on bars, but she lost nearly a point versus her potential.

Ou – UB – van leeuwen, hit – large arch on high bar but pulled it back – late pirouette into a very close piked jaeger – pak – toe on to maloney to gienger – has to muscle up cast – FTDT, hop to the side. Well, that is how worlds has been going for China. Just 13.200

Gadirova – UB – piked jaeger, close but caught – tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova, form but gets it – maloney to pak – van leeuwen, hit – giant full, late – FTDT, step forward. Much better than her warmup.

Black – BB – switch mount to switch 1/2 to korbut is hit – double turn, larger break, bend at the hips – full turn to straddle jump – punch front, holds it with an arm wave – bhs layout 2 feet, good – side somi, secure – 2.5, knees, small hop in place.

13.233 is a strong score for Gadirova on bars.

Maggio – UB – Ray to pak, hit – stalder full, nice to maloney to tkatchev, close but hit – bail to toe full, small arch, hit – higgins to front giant 1/2 – souble arabian dismount, looked locked leg, rebounds and puts her hand down. Maggio and bars. She walked a few steps and now has stopped still on the mat and will be looked at.

Heduit – FX – FTDT, step back, just a little low – double arabian, sits it down –

13.433 for Black on beam to move into 3rd.

Brassart with a large break on beam on her side aerial, lean to the side – bhs loso and falls

12.800 for Maggio on bars.

Carey – UB – Ray, hit with some foot form, yezhova, solid – short cast – maloney, legs to bhardwaj, hit – van leeuwen – goant full, crooked and a bit late – FTDT, small hop.

Visser – BB – saves her bhs mount, could very easily have fallen – turn, little step, arm wave – switch, pause before side somi, secure – split jump 1/2 from side, little lean – straight jump full, hit – side aerial to bhs, another lean to the side with arm wave – double turn was pretty, but another wobble – split leap to sissone – round off bhs 2/1, hop back

Carey’s 13.166 moves her into 3rd ahead of Black and Gadirova.

After 2:
Andrade – 28.966
Jones – 28.599
Carey – 27.899
Black – 27.366
Gadirova – 27.066

Rotation 3

This group on beam. Brace yourselves.

Andrade – BB – Here we go – switch mount, good – switch, pause – switch 1/2, hit – bhs loso, secure – aerial to split ring jump, solid – switch ring to split jump to bhs, solid work – side aerial, hit – full turn, check, lean to the side – wolf jump to sissone, good – ro bhs double pike, step back.

A huge hit for her. Big deal. I honestly thought there was no way she was staying on beam after that tentative early switch.

Kinsella hits a good DTY with a bounce back. 14.166

Vaelen – VT – rudi – solid one, a couple steps back, chest up

Volleman goes 13.133 on bars.

13.533 on beam for Andrade means she’ll just have to not lose this thing on floor.

Ou – BB – fhs front tuck, secuyre, deep – switch to switch 1/2 to korbut – switch ring, small hesitation before split ring to bhs, good – aerial to straddle to bhs, nice – full turn, wobble – side somi, secure – 2.5, hop to the side

Black – FX – popa, good – front full to double pike, step back, stays in bounds – front 2/1 to front tuck, small hop – split leap full is very low – switch full is higher in the passage of dance – 2.5, good control on landing. It was really only that weird split full but she worked it out.

Ou Yushan goes 13.866 on beam.

Gadirova – BB – candle mount, hit – switch to switch 1/2 to korbut, hit combination – wolf double, lean, hit – aerial to split to straddle, solid – bhs loso, secure – side aerial, well done – double pike dismount, lunge back to hold it. One of her most secure beams.

Gadirova with a huge 13.733 on beam with an E score over 8. She and Kinsella are CLOSE.

Maggio – BB – switch mount, check – switch to sissone, nice – bhs loso, check – full turn, lean to the side – switch ring, holds it – side aerial, secure – aerial, squeeze correction – side somi, arm wave to control it – double pike, small hop back

Visser hits her 3/1 front tuck on floor – L turn 2.5 to double turn – double y to illusion in the same spot – 2/1, bounce back – double tuck, bounce back

13.033 on beam for Maggio.

Carey – BB – forward roll mount – full turn, check – bhs loso, no second loso, step back – side aerial to split jump to straddle, secure – aerial, secure – switch to switch 1/2, shortish but not excessive – switch side – split jump 1/2 from side, under split – bhs bhs double pike, deep landing but held the stick somehow. A somewhat tight showing but stayed on.

Miyata – FX – DLO 1/1, good secure landing, knees throughout – whip whip 3/1, also very well controlled – wolf double, some crazy arms but around – 1.5 to front full, solid – switch – split lepa full was under split – double pike, step back. Really good landings. Some body position things, but great control.

Just 12.633 for Carey which drops her to 5th with Jones still to come.

Jones – BB – full turn – Arabian, very solid – switch to sissone, nicely done – bhs loso, good – switch side, lean with the arm – straddle jump from side, a little tentative on those but hit – side aerial, secure – bhs bhs double pike, small step.

Miyata went 13.733. Waiting on the Jones score.

13.100 for Jones keeps her in a comfortable 2nd heading to floor.

After 3:
Andrade – 42.499
Jones – 41.699
Kinsella – 40.899
Gadirova – 40.799
Black – 40.699
Carey – 40.532

Bronzzeeeeeee. Could go any which way since everyone is capable of a 14 on their remaining events.

Rotation 4

Ou – FX – whip whip 3/1, hit, chest down – 2.5 to front lay, secure, some knees – wolf triple, pulls it around – double tuck, step back – triple turn – swtich ring and switch 1/2 are good – doubel L turn, around – 13.733

Friess only vaulted the Tsuk lay full.

Kuusikko hits her bhs loso series – switch to split, solid – wolf 1.5, hit – aerial, large break, bend way overat the hips – side aerial is secure – 1.5 dismount, stuck. Good day for her.

Black – VT – handspring layout full – hits it, a little short, slide back, knees. She did what she could do in the quest.

Gadirova – FX – double double tuckedish – bounce back – DLO 1/1, solid landing, small hop – switch ring to split leap 1.5, a little bounce – switch leap full, around – popa, hit – front full through to double tuck, bounce back. Good hit. Expecting giant score.

Black is done on 54.732

Romi Brown is off beam on a side aerial.

Gadirova gets a massive 14.400 (6.0/8.4). Have to imagine that’s going to clinch a bronze for her unless Carey pulls it allllll out and gets some E help. Kinsella can get close on bars, but can she get there….

Maggio – FX – gets wolf triple around – DLO, couple small hops back – front loso to double pike, small hop – split ring to switch ring 1/2 – FTDT, hop back – double tuck, great stick. 13.866 great number.

D’Amato finishes with a hit DTY, bounce back

Carey – FX – double double layout, small bounce into the corner – DLO 1/1, strong, another small bounce – switch full, around – front loso to double tuck, shuffle back, both feet – split leap full – FTDT, shuffle back again.

Godwin good landing on DLO to finish bars. 13.500

Kinsella – UB – toe 1/2 to piked jaeger, strong – short cast hs – stalder tkatchev piked ot pak – maloney to gienger, caught, legs apart – toe full – double arabian, pace forward.

14.166 for Carey, into 3rd behind Gadirova.

Jones – FX – wolf double, under rotated, probably a single – double double tucked, small step – split leap full – DLO, chest a bit forward, small shuffle – double L, looks like she just did get it around – front tuck through to double tuck, secure landing – L hop full to switch 1/2, hit. 4 for 4 in an all-around final.

I’m watching to see what happens to her D score. It could get CLOSEEEE with Gadirova.

Kinsella 14.166, now she’s in 2nd behind Gadirova.

13.700 for Jones (she lost 2 tenths of D) is enough to move ahead of Gadirova.

Andrade – FX – front full through to FTDT, small shuffle back – DLO 1/1, shuffle back – switch leap full, around – falls out of double Y, not as bad as qual but a deduction – DLO, wonderful landing – split leap full, bounce on landing – double pike, step back. That will clinch the title.

We still ahve a final beam routine from Volleman – who just his front walkover to front kickover – L turn, hit – side somi, secure – double turn, well done – switch, low, connected to cat leap – kotbut, hit – gainer layout full, hop.

14.400 for Andrade, who will win by a ton.

FINAL:
1) Andrade – 56.899
2) Jones – 55.399
3) Gadirova – 55.199
4) Kinsella – 55.065
5) Black – 54.732
6) Carey – 54.698
7) Ou – 53.899
8) Miyata – 53.798

World Championships Men’s Team Final Live Blog

So if last night is any indication, it’s time to get ready for our world bronze medalist South Korean team.

Today, we have Japan entering as the major favorite after their unique non-disaster of a qualification performance that outpaced everyone else by 8 points. The big mystery is China. China had a deeply terrible qualification performance to place 4th, and while we would typically expect that to be reversed in the team final for a gold/silver-level performance, Sun Wei is a major question mark after his qualification injury. He’s slated for four events today, including floor and vault, but if he is not able to hit, there’s no way China can make up 10 points on their qualification performance the way one might otherwise think they could.

As for Great Britain and the US, neither had a strong performance in qualification, with GB ending up a half point ahead of the US, so it’s really going to come down to who flops fewer times today.

Intros starting now. Pretty sure “Stephen Ned-erotic” was just introduced. Brazil is going for a HOODIES milieu for their intro. A TRY.

On to the warmups for the first rotation.

Rotation 1

Tanigawa K – FX – front front pike 1/2 out, bounce back – front 2/1 to layout, stuck – double  double tuck, stuck – 2.5 to front full, side pass, hit – double arabian 1/2 out, stuck landing. Amazing start for Japan.

Asher Hong through a hit pommel horse, and Nory hits a clean Kas 1.5, small hop.

14.566 for Nory. 13.566 for Hong.

Sun Wei is off on pommel horse. The first break of the day belongs to China. Again.

Still waiting on Tanigawa’s score. Just give him a 50. Alright 14.400

Abbadini SR – 13.033

Hall – FX – GBR – double double tuck, bounce back – double arabian 1/2 out, bounce back – front 2/1 to front full, small hop – 1.5 to layout, hop – randi, chest forward, little hop – 3/1, step.

Sun Wei 13.633

Brody Malone technically dismounted but mostly just heaved himself sideways off the horse, so he’ll need to get up and do it again.

14.500 for Caio Souza’s Dragulescu with two steps.

14.200 for Hall on FX.

Hashimoto – FX – Japan – triple double is quite short, bound forward – double double, also a little short with a hop – front full to randi, good, small hop – 2/1, stuck – 2.5 to layout, super clean, little shuffle back – 3/1, bounce back. Fine, not his strongest.

Guimaraes hits a doubel front on vault, though it was very deep, bounces up quickly.

Malone just 11.733 on horse. SO there’s that.

Zhang Boheng puts up a hit for China on horse. 13.966

Near fall for Kin Hansol on vault, very deep

Regini Moran – FX -OOB step on triple double – double double, small step forward – 2.5 to front lay to 1.5, small hop – 2/1, bounce back – doubel front pike 1/2 out, stuck, well done – randi, short landing, lunge – 3/1, little hop forward.

Ned-Erotic had a large leg break on a Russian so not as strong as qualification, but a good hit overall.

Malone D score inquiry is rejected.

Regini Moran 14.166.

Doi – FX – double double tucked, bounce back – back 1.5 to front 2/1, hop forward – back 2.5 to front 1.5, somewaht low, good control – 3.5, small hop – 3/1 bounce back. Good.

WOAH Nedoroscik got 12.966. So I must have missed something. Also just a 5.1 D score.

13.433 for Yang Jiaxing to finish horse for China.

Doi 14.366 on floor.

Jarman – FX – triple double layout, hit, hop forward – triple double tucked, bounce – back 2.5 to front 1/2 to 1/2, stuck, some piking – 3/1 side pass, hop – front full to randi, bounce back – 3.5 dismount, hop. Hit, lots of hops.

They have submitted an inquiry for Nedoroscik’s horse D score of 5.1.

So that does it for the first rotation. The big loser there was the US with a Nedoroscik score in the 12s to drop them nearly 4 points from their qualification total on horse. Pretty much everyone else will be OK with their prospects after the first event.

Rotation 2

James Hall is off PH on a Tong Fei to make the US feel better.

Zou’s v sit on rings gets a big roar – double double tuck dismount, near stuck, small step.

Levantesi hits a double  front on vault with a step

12.200 on horse for Hall.

14.866 on rings for Zou. As China’s leadoff.

Hashimoto definitely through a hit on horse this time – Malone is taking some time to secure handstands on rings before his dismount, small step.

Casali vaults a Kas 2/1 with leg form, step to the side, for Italy.

14.433 for Hashimoto, 13.766 for Malone.

Zapata crashes a double front on vault, does not attempt the posted Dragulescu. Jarman stays on horse for 12.566.

You Hao has a large lunge back on his rings dismount.

Doi is off horse for Japan. It looked like he whacked his leg on the horse at the very beginning and then fell not that far into his routine.

Bartolini large bound forward on Kas 1.5

Caio Souza with a lovely front straddle on PBars – tippelt, good height and handstand – double front 1/2, small hop.

Asher Hong bounce back on rings dismount.

13.033 for Doi.

14.033 for Hong on rings.

Joe Fraser just had the most ridiculous horse routine, with a couple early form breaks and then a full Nedoroscik-at-trials where it was miraculous that he stayed on – but then he came off shortly after – and then another large break when he resumed. Oh dear.

Joe Fraser goes full Tang Xijing with a 10.466.

Tanigawa K just stepped down from one pommel. Falls later in his routine. And then sort of flopped apart on his dismount after that.

Whittenburg sticks double double layout on rings.

Well Japan and GB just joined the US in the YUCK YUCK POMMELS club, definitely starting to open the door for someone to have a Canada moment.

Rotation 3

Malone – VT – Kas 1.5 – a little short, hop back. 14.400

Nory – HB – tak 1/2 – layout tkatchev to tkatchev to piked tkatchev, clean – quast – falls on layout jaeger 1/2

Zhang Boheng hits a very good Kas 2/1 today. 14.966. Wow.

Hong – VT – USA – he landed his Ri Se Gwang, probably the best one we’ve seen him do here – large lunge back and out of the area

Ryu – HB – KOR – yamawaki, some pike -stalder rybalko very late – double double layout, hop forward

Sun Wei does land his Kas 2/1 today, large lunge to the side and off the mat for him as well. 13.833

Fraser step back on double double tuck on rings. 14.033

Clean DLO 1/1 dismount from Soares on HB with a step back.

Levantesi – PB – peach, diam,  – tippelt, solid – bhavsar, smooth swing – siam to stutz – tuck 1/2 to arm – doubel pike, chest down, hop forward.

Lee JH – HB – KOR – tak 1/2, good position, Kolman, was very close, does a fully frog-legged giant out of it – catches cassina – DLO 2/1, step back.

Plata – PB – Spain – peach 1/2 with some walking – diam – front toss – healy down, clean – tippelt, clena – stuatz, a little short of vertical – doubel front 1/2 out, nicely stuck. 14.266

Tulloch’s rings will finish the rotation – DLO 1/1 dismount, some piking, step back.

Rotation 4

Regini Moran – VT – Kas 2/1 to start their rotation, very good, medium step back. 14.600

Mir – HB – tkatchev to puiked tkatchev, good – quast – 1.5 – tak 1/2, solid – stalder – DLO 2/1, stumble back, probably 3 steps. So good until the dismount.

Doi – VT – Japan – gorgeous yurchenko 2.5, stuck landing. 14.700

You does have a larger hop forward on his doubel front 1/2 out dismount, but will be a huge improvement on his 12 from qualification as Japan has to start being nervous now.

Jarman – VT – Falls on his Kas 2.5 attempt, large lunge forward and off the mat and all kinds of hands down. 13.733

Important 14.366 from Guimaraes on floor for Brazil.

14.666 for You gains almost 2 points on qualification by himself.

Hong – PB – good bhavsar – tippelt, solid height – makuts, hit – finishes with a very deep double front 1/2, but lands it with hop forward.

Wataru vault – excellent handspring double front pike, hop forward. 14.766

Abad with a couple steps back on his HB dismount.

14.533 for Hong. Good number.

Souza – FX – Brazil – front full to double front, small slide back – open back tcuk 1.5, step forward, lovely in the air – front 2/1 to front tuck full, short, larger slide back – back 2.5 to front lay, hop – 3/1, small bounce back

Tulooch – VT – hits his Dragulescu, crossover step backward –

Zhang had a large hesitation on one rail on Pbars but pulled it back – doubel front 1/2 out, large lunge forward.

You’s score changed to 14.866.

Tulloch 14.500 on vault.

Hashimoto with a very rough Kas 2/1 on vault, short landing, lunge forward, another step off the mat.

Malone – PB – hits mount – clean makuts – balked his diam but did it the second time – good stutz and front straddle – tippelt, smoothly done – healy, small hand movement – doubel front, hop forward

Hashimoto just 13.866 on vault. JAPAN.

Nory – FX – doubel front pike, good, small shuffle – front 2/1 to front tuck to prone – whip 2.5, hop forward – back 1.5 to front full – doubel arabian, small shuffle forward.

13.966 for Malone.

Zou’s PBars double front 1/2 out is what dreams are made of. Can the Chinese men’s team go to the Chinese women’s team and do a clinic on turning it around from qualification?

Macchini with a very nice hit for Italy on high bar, which keeps hitting routines in its quest to be a Canada but also still has to do horse.

15.766 for Zou. LOLOLOLOL.

Walker – PB – front toss – makuts, hit – peach – long swing diam – bhavsar, solid height – tippelt, good height – healy – stutz, double front, small hop forward. Some formies but a good one.

So China is way out in front now, Brazil hanging onto 2nd but still with horse to do, Japan moves back up to 3rd, and USA is in 4th. Italy in 5th.

Rotation 5

Abbadini – FX – back 2.5 to clean front lay, – double arabian, good stick – 2/1, stuck – front full, stuck –

Everyone trying to lose bronze.

Bitencourt has a couple huge form breaks and nearly survives them but comes off in the end.

Hall 14.033 on PBars.

Colt Walker 11.700 is terror for the US.

Zhang – HB – tak 1/1, hit – tak 1/2, very nice finishing posiution – layout tkatchev – Cassina, super clean – Kolman, good – DLO 2/1, small hop. Good one.

14.766 for Kamoto on Pbars, which is not quite what they would have hoped for from him. Zhang goes 14.433 on high bar.

Malone – HB – Cassina is good – molman, hit – layout tkatchev to tkatchev to piked tkatchev, strong – tak 1/1, very late – DLO 2/1, small shuffle – hit routine.

Regini Moran 14.233 to Malone 14.366.

Yang – HB – does a full one arm catch on Cassina but stays on the high bar – layout tkatchev is hit – tkatchev – DLO 2/1, stuck landing.

Kakeru looks like he clipped the rail on his PBars dismount, lands it to his feet but with a couple stumbles.

And Souza is off horse to complete the triple fall for Brazil.

14.300 for Kakeru on PBars.

Fraser on Pbars to anchor, sticks his dismount to keep GB in this as well going to the final rotation.

Fraser went 15.000 on Pbars to put GB back in the race for bronze. It looks like China, then Japan, and then a race between Italy, GB, and the US for bronze. “Italy” he began to whisper over and over again.

Rotation 6

Sun – FX – double double, stuck – front 2/1 to front lay, a little slidely – 2/1, holds stick with a lean – 2.5 to front full, small hop – 3/1, step back. So I guess he was mostly OK today?

Hall – HB – Cassina, hit with some form – Kolman, solid – tkatchev – tak 1/1, great finish position – tak 1/2 – DLO 2/1, small step back.

13.866 for Sun. front full to double front pike, hop forward OOB – DLO 1/1, deeper landing, hop forward – front tuck full to double front, small hop – back 2.5 to sloaty front lay, stuck with some knee form – 3/1, forward, hop.

13.700 for James Hall.

13.300 for Macchini on horse. IT BEGINSSSSS.

13.933 for Hong.

Yang JX with a solid hit on floor for China to continue their quest toward gold.

13.533 for Diallo on horse.

Fraser – HB – tak 1/2, solid – kolman, hit – Cassina is strong – layoutk tkatchev – tak 1/1, very late – lunge forward on dismount. Hit.

Bartolini stays on horse as well.

Malone – FX – front full to double front pike, small slide back – 2.5 to front….tuck, botches his punch with a very deep landing if not a fall – double double, short landing, lunge forward – front 2/1 to front lay, hopo – 2/1, stuck – 3/1, small hop.

Just 12.766 for Bartolini, which will not help compared to GB’s score on HB so far. Fraser gets a 14.000

Kamoto – Hb – lay tkatchev, hit – Cassina, hit – Kolman, also solid – tkatchev – inbar – stalder – DLO 2/1, step back.

Nooooooo Abbadini’s hand slips off on his pommel horse dismount and he clatters front first to the ground.

So basically GB has the bronze is their hands now if Jarman stars on HB in any kind of manner.

Jarman – HB – tak 1/2, late – layout tkatchev – tkatchev, hit – tak – front stalder – stalder – DLO 1/1, hop forward.

Whittenburg – hits double front, hgop – DLO 2/1, chest forward, hop – front full to double front pike and sits it down – 2.5 to front lay, whips it over but stuck – double double tuck, small hop – souble arabian 1/2 out, hop forward.

Jarman’s 13.100 will clinch the bronze for GB.

Hashimoto – HB – will need a 7 to get into silver – falls on his Liukin and he’s down – but he’s back up and rechalking – Cassina is hit – Kolman, good – layout tkatchev – tak 1/1, very late – stalder – DLO 2/1 stuck landing.

China’s massive improvement
Japan’s implosion for silver
GB’s least-bad-of-the-rest for bronze

With Whittenburg’s 13.466, the US will finish behind Italy, who will take 4th.

World Championships Women’s Team Final Live Blog

Finals start tonight in Liverpool as we save the best for…first I guess….with the women’s team final.

The US women qualified in first position by 2.668 ahead of Great Britain and have taken a slight risk by putting Leanne Wong in the bars lineup despite not using her on bars in qualification. The Brazilians qualified in 3rd while counting a beam fall from Saraiva, while the Italians and Chinese qualified in 4th and 6th while counting beam falls from almost everyone. So the medal race is afoot.

If everyone does what they did in qualifications, the US would be in first and GB would be in second throughout the competition, so keep an eye on whether either of them drop from those positions at any point because that will mean that they aren’t maintaining the margin from qualification.

Brazil and Italy are in the rotations that end on floor and vault, which gives an advantage to Brazil, so Brazil wouldn’t mind trailing Italy by a little at the halfway point, while Italy will want a major advantage after two events. As for China, we’ll know after the first rotation whether they are in this thing or not based on how much they are able to improve on that 39.199 beam score from qualification. A 40 on beam would keep China afloat from the start, and a 42 (which is totally doable but would be big), would put them squarely in the medal and more zone.

What I’m sitting with here is that there’s not a team in the medal hunt here that doesn’t seem……kind of beam meltdowny. So that’s going to determine a lot.

We’re still in the extended crowd sing-a-long portion of the meet in case you were wondering. You know, gymnastics.

Flavia confirmed as doing only bars today. ALAS. That really hurts Brazil’s medal chances. They’re losing multiple points having to use Pedro instead.

There’s sure a lot of crowd-amping happening for the meet already being three minutes late.

They have lights projecting the name of each event onto the apparatus, and the one on bars says “Horizontal Bar.” No, sorry, you’ve misunderstood.

Intros happening now. They have an opportunity to do team dances and Japan has already won. I’m sorry, go home all other teams.

Ellie Black already successfully walked off the intro stage the wrong direction because hero.

Intros done, no one lived up to Japan, and we’re ready for the touch warmup.

Rotation 1

Boyer with sold control on her double tuck first pass – split leap full, clean – double pike, bounce back –

Sakaguchi – BB – Japan – switch to split to straddle, secure – side aerial to loso, arm wave check – switch ring, holds it, slight check – aerial, large break, may have touched the beam, but kept it on

Chiles – VT – very strong DTY, good direction, little hop

Oliveira – UB – maloney to pak to toe on to van leeuwen, hit – blind to front giant full, a litlte late into piked jaeger, clean – double front 1/2 out is good, little hop

14.400 first score. Solid, but a little lower than in qualification.

Kinsella – VT – good DTY, larger bounce back, and a bit more leg form in the block than Chiles. 14.133

Villa – UB – Italy – tkatchev to pak to maloney, good – bhardwaj, clean – van leeuwen – front fgiant full – scoots back center – FTDT, stuck. AMAZING.14.166

Tang – BB – China – loso mount is very good – ro layout 2 feet, right on – switch to split ring jump, pause before bhs – and now it’s a fall. Oh it was going so perfectly to start with. And now a second fall on her aerial, well fall onto the beam as she grabs it and pushes herself back up – double pike, short, hands down. Oh China.

Jones – VT – lands a bit short on her DTY today, not her strongest, lunge forward – just 13.933

Saraiva – UB – toe full to piked tkatchev to pak, straddle but hit – toe on to maloney to geinger, solid – short cast hs on high – double front dismount, little ginger hop to the side. good hit but it looked ouchie on the landing. 13.666

DJDS – FX – FTDT, nice, small slide back – front loso to double tuck, small slide back – double pike, another solidly controlled pass, small hop back

Jes Gadirova – VT – good distance and chest up on DTY, though another large lunge back. 14.200

Maggio – UB – falls on her opening Ray, the same thing she did in the touch warmup. Second fall on a connected Tkatchev – she does hit her double Arabian dismount.

Brazil’s like – WE’RE BACK TO LIFE.

Carey – VT – solid normal Cheng for her, good control on the landing, minor hop to the side. 14.800

Tang’s score finally comes is as 10.700. Gut punch to me.

11.700 for Maggio on bars.

Andrade – UB – maloney to stalder full to piked tkatchev to pak to van leeuwen, wonderful – piked jaeger, good – toe full to FTDT, two small steps back. Good one.

The US went 43.133 on vault, which is .133 lower than qualification, mostly due to Jones’ short landing.

14.366 for Achampong. 42.699 for GB on vault.

Ou – BB – fhs to front tuck, secure – switch to switch 1/2, small pause before korbut, just a tad off line but fine – qa couple checks but staying on – 2.5 dismount goes somewhat awry, a lunge and then another step off the mat. Apparently she also had some issue with her sitting on the beam mount.

14.633 for Andrade –

Alice D’Amato – UB – maloney to tkatchev, hit – piked ricna to pak to van leeuwen and she falls as well

Friess sits her opening pass on floor.

Brazil 41.499 is a big improvement over qualification, which they needed going to beam.

Ou almost dying 8 times and going over 14.2 is my thing.

Miyata – BB – check on switch mount – secure layout 2 feet – switch to sissone, hit, a little short – aerial to split jump to bhs, smooth – side aerial, check – side somi, large lean forward at the hips, stays on – double pike, very short, large stumble forward

D’Amato 13.500 with the fall on bars.

Italy is down over 3 points on their qualification score on bars.

Miyata 13.233

Luo – BB – lovely front walkover mount – ro layout 2 feet and falls, though she might be able to save it after grabbing the beam – switch, check before split ring to a lovely bhs combo – switch ring, perfect, but pause before split to bhs – aerial to stag ring to korbut, good – full turn, check – wolf jump to sissone – looks like they took out that Yurchenko loop – doubel tuck, very deep but landed.

Canada 39.133 on floor.

The US, GB, and Brazil the winners of the first rotation. Also the top 3 in the standings. Brazil the only team that improved on its Q score on its first event.

Rotation 2

We’re still waiting on Luo’s score. 12.400. So yes China is in last after one rotation. And it was beam. So that happened.

Villa – BB – loso mount. check – ro tuck full, SHE HIT IT – wolf triple is nice – switch to split, check – double turn, smooth – side aerial, good – 2/1, bounce back. A hit!

“Everyone is a disaster but me” – Giorgia Villa

Jes Gadirova – pause is first cast – piked jaeger, a bit close – tkatchev 1/2 to a wildly tucked yezhova, she’s still on? – maooney to pak is hit – van leeuwen, sall leg break – gaint full – FTDT, holds the stick.

Soares has fallen on her loso series.

Sakaguchi – FX – FTDT, solid, step abck – popa – 3/1, lovely, step back – switch ring, some back leg position – back 1.5 to front lay, little hop – 2.5, stuck landing. excellent.

Maggio – BB – hits switch mount – bhs loso loso, solid – switch ring, hit – side aeiral, arm wave – aerial, hit – side somi and falls – oh Martina –

Kinsella – UB – toe 1/2 to piked jaeger, solid, a little low – stalder tkatchev piked to pak – maloney to gienger, some leg separation – toe full to double arabian, lunge forward. Nice. 14.100

Devillard’s rudi is a struggle, large lunge to the side and off the mats. She had crashed it in the final warmup.

Andrade – BB – switch mount, good – switch to switch 1/2 to split jump, comfortable – bhs loso, leg up check – another check on aerial – switch ring, maybe a bit low of position – side aerial and falls – double pike dismount, solid landing.

Brazil’s like – NEVER MIND NO THANKS

Wong – UB – stalder 1/2 to jaeger, good – toe full to bhardwaj, hit, a litle flopping – maloney to pak, solid – van leeuwen, catches – DLO deeeeep landing, lunge forward. The dismount will take away some serious tenths but nice on the bar.

Esposito – BB – bhs mount to bhs loso, hit – aerial to check – split jump to sissone, some foot position –

Meanwhile Pedro finishes beam with a solid double tuck, hop back. But it’s an 11.966.

Zhang finishes her floor with a deep double pike, hop forward. Long wait for her score.

12.866 for her.

Miyata – FX – DLO 1/1, hit, chest forward with a hop, some knees in the air – whip whip 3/1 is solid, small slide back, leg crossing – wolf double is around – back 1.5 to front full, secure landing, knees again – split leap full – double pike, solid.

Actually a big rotation for Italy in having just the one fall (LOL) and getting somewhat back on track. With everyone having such a disaster, their margin compared to qualification on bars and beam suddenly isn’t that bad. But Italy’s lead over Brazil is currently small, which benefits Brazil going to these last two events.Or would theoretically with Flavia. Now…who can say.

Rotation 3

Carey – BB – forward roll mount – full turn – bhs los loso, check  – side aerial, arm wave – straddle, pause – aerial, hit  swithc to switch 1/2 – switch side, little lean – split jump 1/2 from side, short of split – bhs bhs double pike, chest down, step back. 12.800

Chiles goes 13.333. Andrade goes 14.066.

Fenton – BB – loso mount, good – double turn, held well – side aerial to bhs, smooth – aerial, some knee into split jump, some back foot – y spin – wolf triple, just does pull it around – switch to split is hit – doubel tuck, pulls for dear life and hits it, hop forward.

Pedro finishes floor with a deep double pike and a lunge forward.

Turner 13.333 on bars to keep Canada in a good place with beam to come.

13.266 for Blakely, which is not what they wanted but the US buffer can afford.

Kinsella – BB – swithc mount, leg up check – aerial, small pause before good split jump – side aerial to loso to…back tuck off the beam – must have been off line from the start – wolf double, hit – switch to switch 1/2, no trouble – double pike, super deep, lunge back.

Pedro 12.466 on floor.

Esposito does a wonderful wolf roll on the third turn on her attempted wolf triple – 2.5 hop forward – split leap full, attempted 1.5 but not there – illusion – split leap to switch full – back 1.5 to front full, large bounce forward right into the corner, don’t think she went OOB – double tuck, well short, hands down. Drat it all.

This has been…not a great final and Japan is the only team I care about, please and thank you. Although Japan is going to bars now, which can be an adventure. But the lead is enough that Japan can legitimately do this. They’re currently in 3rd and going to give up a lottttt to Brazil and Italy on vault, but Brazil and Italy are so far back.

Rotation 4

Jen Gadirova – FX – DLO, high, bounce back – FTDT, bounce back, nice – switch ring – split full, good – switch 1/1 has some body position – front loso to double tuck, chest a bit down, hop forward. Good one.

14.733 for Wei

Yamada – UB – maloeny to gienger, solid – blind to piked jaeger – pak, clean – van leeuwen – stalder to toe full, some back arch – FTDT, stuck. Nice.

Esposito 13.466 on vault for a Yfull. The lack of DTYs here for Italy and Brazil is really hurting them. Well, that and the crap-ton of falls.

Andrade does the most magnificent Cheng and goodbye.

14.100 for Carey.

Jes Gadirova – FX – double double tuck, slide back – DLO, small hop – switch 1/2, good height, some feet – popa – front full to double tuck, stuck landing. Great.
