Well, it’s been an eventful weekend for scheduling thus far if nothing else.

Weather concerns pushed the Eastern Michigan tri-meet against MSU and LIU to an early slot today and have knocked Kentucky’s meet against Auburn back to tomorrow at 12 local time. Meanwhile, the ceiling is falling down (cool?) in Stegeman, which has forced Georgia’s meet against Arkansas to move to another venue, now on Sunday. I haven’t quite figured out how Suzanne is responsible for that one, but I’m also sure of it.

So it turns out with all that—not to mention the non-broadcast of the LSU quad—today is kind of patchy when it comes to the top teams, at least until the RUMBLE IN THE C-O-P between Florida and Oklahoma gets going later on, right at the same time as Utah’s senior night.

For the moment, Michigan State’s 197.500 has bumped them up from #13 to an in-progress ranking of #10, with Denver, Oregon State, and Kentucky in contention to get back ahead with their scores this weekend, but also with another meet for MSU coming on Sunday.

We’re supposed to have some kind of scores from the Baton Rouge quad, but all I’ve seen is a general link to MSO. So like…then what?

Host Ohio State will trail BYU after one rotation with a 40.050 on vault to BYU’s 49.300 on bars. That’s a season high on bars for BYU and the second-lowest vault of the season for Ohio State.

Missouri and Alabama underway now.

Rotation 1

Sir, we do not “play” gymnastics

Lawrence – VT – Missouri – yfull, fine, medium step back, some pike and chest down. 9.750

Hudson – UB – Alabama – a bit tight on first hs – toe on to maloney, small leg break – bail, does well to hold onto it, but a lean, squeezed through it – short hs on high – giant full into double tuck, step back. 9.775

McCrary – VT – Missouri – solid control on yfull landing with a shuffle back, good distance, pike throughout. 9.800

German – UB – Alabama – Ricna is solid – hits hs on high – pak, not the highest but hit – pauses hesitation on cast 1/2 on low – short cast hs on high – toe on to DLO, holds the landing, some pike. 9.825

Schreiber – VT – Missouri – yfull, bounce back, best body position so far, some direction. 9.850

Waligora – UB – Alabama – good first hs – blind to jaeger, high, flexed feet, connects to overshoot, legs apart – DLO 1/1 dismount, nice control, small slide back. 9.850

Celestine – VT – Missouri – good distance on y1.5, pace forward. 9.875

Adams – UB – Alabama – good first hs – maloney to pak, good legs together – nice hs on low bar – van leeuwen, good – a bit shy on final cast hs – very late on giant full connected into double tuck with a lunge back – great until dismount combo, where she should incur .2. 9.850. Or not.

Moore – VT – Missouri – Y1.5, lands short on it, kind of strange, step back – like she got lost in the air a bit but was so high. 9.825 impossibly high.

Machado – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, hit – some hip angle but hitting vertical – van leeuwen, some body angle on catch – shortish final hs – toe full into double tuck, holds the stick. 9.900

Davis – VT – Missouri – also lands short on her y1.5, lunge back and some direction. 9.800

Doggette – UB – Alabama – hits first hs – tkatchev to pak, good height – 1/2 turn on low, solid – well short on final cast hs – DLO, basically holds the stick, chest somewhat forward but delays the step salute. 9.950

Missouri goes 49.150 on vault there, while Alabama is on 49.375 on bars. Scores pretty loose on both events. Missouri landed short on a couple Y1.5s. Got away with OK numbers, but they won’t be super happy with that vault rotation performance. No Blanco on bars for Alabama, which was not ideal, and some formies but they get through with 49.375. Not super crisp on the cast handstand positions today.

Sounds like a delayed start at Baton Rouge. Everything’s going so well!

Ohio State went 49.400 on bars to take the lead back from BYU after 2 events, 98.450 to 98.400.

Rotation 2

Gladieux – VT – Alabama – now leading off – good distance on yfull, bounce back. 9.850

Celestine – UB – Missouri – good first hs – toe on to maloney, legs nice – pak, low with a leg break and knee bend – toe on to van leeuwen – good hs on high – stalder pike 1/2, holds on. 9.825

Doggette – VT – Alabama – hits y1.5, slightly underrotated coming in with a large lunge forward. 9.750

Schreiber – UB – Missouri – maloney to bail, some hip angle in the air, gets to vertical – short final cast hs – DLO, a little low, bounce back. 9.850

Hudson – VT – Alabama – does well to find the landing on her Y1.5 since it looked like she was going to come in short, small slide back, not the most distance, good form. 9.875

Sheremeta – UB – Missouri – good first hs on high – blind to jaeger, high, good position, looked close on catch, connects to overshoot – rudi dismount, chest down today with a hop forward. 9.825

Adams – VT – Alabama – does a yfull and lands short, chest down, lunge forward, will need to drop that one. 9.675

Moore – UB – Missouri – toe on to tkatchev to overshoot, hit, some pike in overshoot – gets up to solid hs on high – FTDT, chest a bit down, small slide back.9.925

Paradise – VT – Alabama – hits a y1.5 but a large bound forward for her as well. 9.800

Hu – UB – Missouri – good first hs – Church to pak is excellent – godo hs on low – van leeuwen, small leg break – good hs on high – giant full, gets to vertical, some body position, connects to double tuck, hop forward. 9.875

Olsen – VT – Alabama – DTY, hits it as we’ve come to expect, small slide back, some legs on the block, can take a height deduction. 9.900

Burns – UB – Missouri – good first hs – blind, small leg break into jaeger to overshoot, hit – DLO, some legs, hop back.

Bunagan exhibition vault for Alabama, chest down yfull.

Alabama just 49.175 on vault there, again without Blanco and not the landing control they would have been looking for except for Hudson. Some short landings and some lunges, allowing Missouri to get back in this. Missouri goes 49.350 on bars, close to what Alabama did there. They’ll have wanted more in the dismount control department, but good on the cast handstand positions overall.

After 2:
Alabama 98.550
Missouri 98.500

No Finnegan today for LSU. Tatum and Wilson in the vault lineup.

Rotation 3

McCrary – BB – Missouri – kickover, some foot position, secure into beat jump – bhs loso series, leg up about to horizontal on the wobble – split jump to ring jump secure – full turn – gainer pike, chest down, hop forward. 9.650

Waligora – FX – Alabama – short on front 2/1 first pass and sits it down – split full and wolf full around well – back 1.5 to front lay, good height, but of slide out. 9.075

Lawrence – BB – Missouri – switch to split, hit – full turn – side aerial to bhs series, right on, some flexed feet – aerial, holds it – 1.5 dismount, good stick. 9.850

Doggette – FX – Alabama – FTDT, good control – split leap 1.5, just does pull it around?, compromises the split a bit – back 1.5 to front lay, controls well. 9.875

Davis – BB – Missouri – bhs loso, shows some real amplitude in bhs, ends up with a deep landing on her loso, but only small check – kickover, large break, leg up to horizontal and lean to the side – beat to sheep, check – switch, a bit tight to bhs gainer full, good height, bounce back. 9.600, which means McCrary’s 9.650 will count.

Priess is up talking to the judges. They had Olsen’s name up, but she hadn’t gone.

Adams – FX – Alabama – double pike, good control – switch 1/2 to tuck jump full – wolf triple is well done – back 1.5 to attempted front layout, got no punch and sits down the attempted front lay, Alabama counting a floor fall now. 9.150

Sheremeta – BB – Missouri – beat, hit – bhs loso, securely landed – aerial to split jump to shushunova, was kind of leaning through it, did well not to show a check or pause – gainer tuck full, pretty much shows the stick long enough with a quick salute. 9.900

Meanwhile, Haleigh Bryant went 9.975 for a bounce back on vault, so it’s probably for the best that there’s no actual broadcast of that one.

Gladieux – FX – Alabama – FTDT, chest farther down today with a small hop forward – split leap full to popa, good height – front lay to rudi to split jump, some travel back – 9.875

Hu – BB – Missouri – nice swingdown mount – y spin – aerial to aerial combination is lovely – beat, super high to split jump 3/4, excellent – bhs gainer full, low gainer full and didn’t quiiiiite show the stick there with a step salute. Perfect until the dismount. 9.950

Hudson – FX – Alabama – front lay to front 2/1, good control – switch 1/2 to wolf full, around crisply – 2.5, a bit shy coming in, controls the step – double tuck, small front foot movement. Good. 9.900

Schreiber – BB – Missouri – full turn, good – bhs loso, holds it – switch 1/2, large break, leg up wobble and lean to the side – split jump to split jump 3/4, good feet and split position, check – beat to gainer full, holds landing. 9.750

Blanco – FX – Alabama – interesting that they have her up on floor in a “rest meet” even though this is already a sunk rotation score – wolf double, good – double pike, chest up, bounce back – double tuck, same, good position in the air, bounce back – switch ring to switch 1/2, lovely – front full to front lay, covers in a nice dance out.

So, kind of a case of the blahs for both teams in rotation 3. Missouri gets out of beam with a 49.100 thanks mostly to Helen Hu being herself. That will bring Missouri to a 3 tenth lead on Alabama heading to the last event with Alabama’s 48.750 on floor. They get up to 48.750 after Blanco gets a 9.950 just cuz.

After 3:
Missouri 147.600
Alabama 147.300

Alabama now needs 49.700 on beam just to make this a counting score in what previously looked like a huge opportunity to move up. Now, Auburn will suddenly see an opportunity presented at tomorrow’s meet.

Meanwhile, LSU and Cal were tied on 49.550 after the first rotation. Ohio State is close to wrapping up what should be a high 196. BYU counts a fall on beam to end up on 195.575.

Rotation 4

Burgess – BB – Alabama – full turn – one arm bhs to loso, smoothly done – side aerial, small wiggle – switch to beat, hit – cat to switch side, arms down quickly to hold it – gainer pike, holds landing. 9.875

Ohio State ended up with 9.600 and 9.550 to finish floor, so the total was 196.575.

Schreiber – FX – Missouri – rudi to back lay to split, nice control today – front full to front lay to stag, not the highest but well controlled – switch full to split jump full, pulls around second element, good feet. 9.875

Rybicki – BB – Alabama – bhs loso, hit, some foot position – cat leap to switch side, wobble 1/4 to pull herself in cross position – beat to straddle 3/4, hit – 1.5 with a lean forward to avoid the step. 9.725

Kratzer – FX – Missouri – double tuck, overdoes it some, lunge back – switch side to popa, hit, some foot positions – back 1.5 to lay, lower layout – double pike, chest down, controls the step. 9.875, watch out for the numbers here

Waligora – BB – Alabama – full turn, hit – bhs loso series, some leg positions, wobbles working out of it – side aerial, solid – split jump tp tuck jump full, looked around total but another leg up wobble – 1.5 dismount, held with lean. 9.800

McCrary – FX – Missouri – front lay to rudi, under control, not super high – switch side to popa, a little under – double pike, controls the step – our commentator LOVES low chest positions landings today. 9.900

Gladieux – BB – Alabama – bhs lay-pike 2 feet, good height, secure – aerial to beat jump, nice – switch to straddle jump, comfortable – 2/1 dismount, hop back. 9.875

Sheremeta – FX – Missouri – front 2/1, high, slide forward out of it – switch side to popa, nice splits, overturns switch side slightly – rudi to loso, good control – basically a sheep jump dive roll, sheep roll? Good one. 9.925

Hudson – BB – Alabama – aerial to bhs loso, arm wave check – switch to beat – side aerial well done – 1.5 dismount, a bit low, holds onto the landing. 9.900

Moore – FX – Missouri – DLO, hit but chest down with a hop forward – switch 1/2 to popa to popa, good height – so we’re just showing random uninterested children during every routine now? – front tuck through to double tuck, again some  chest down.  9.875

LSU 49.350 on bars. Cal just 49.075 on beam per LSU’s twitter.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, good – full turn, also nice – bhs loso loso right on – switch to beat, excellent – 1.5 dismount, stuck landing. Very good.

And it’s a 10.000 for Blanco.

Celestine – FX – Missouri – FTDT, good control – split leap full to split jump full, nice height, around well – 1.5 to layout, gets low on layout with an awkward step out – double tuck, hit.

So Alabama is done on 196.750, which is going to be a dropped road score for them. Missouri’s will be a useful counter, just waiting to see how county it is.

9.900 for Celestine puts Missouri on 197.075, their #2 home score of the season.

We actually have a moment before the big batch starts now. Latest news is no Eaker today for Utah with concussion.

Why is there still basketball happening and who do I speak to about it?

10.000 for eMjae Frazier on floor.

OK, here we go. Oklahoma and Florida.

Rotation 1

Sievers – VT – OU – Y1.5, good stick, very nice start, just some knees. Let’s check out how we’re starting the scores. 9.950

Blakely – UB – Florida – good maloney to pak, legs together – 1/2 turn on low is solid – gets to vertical on high – toe 1/2 to front giant to double front, some cowboy, good stick. 9.925

Stern – VT – OU – Y1.5, small hop forward on that one, otherwise similar to Sievers. 9.875

Nguyen – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, smooth – 1/2 turn on low a bit past – DLO, small slide of heels together. Nice. 9.875

Levassuer – VT – OU – nearly found the stick on her y1.5, small hop forward, a step up in terms of distance and extension from the first two. 9.900

“You can bet those judges will be watching closely.” Cute.

DiCello – UB – Florida – good first hs – Ray is hit – very good second hs – pak, legs together – hits hs on low – toe on to van leeuwen, legs together – FTDT, step back. 9.850

Trautman – VT – OU – Y1.5, fabbbbb stick. Watch out for the score.

And we have our first 10.000 of the meet. Won’t be the last?

Thomas – Ub – Florida – Maloney to pak, lovely – good hs on low – toe on to van leeuwen, solid – a bit late on cast hs on high – DLO, stuck landing. Didn’t think she had the final cast this week, but let’s see what they do.

9.975. I’m with Lisa 9.950 on this one.

Bowers – VT – OU – Y1.5, nice height, good extension, hop forward. 9.875

Wong – UB – Florida – some hip angle in first hs but pretty much vertical – maloney to pak, nice – van leeuwen, legs together – good he on high – DLO, didn’t quite show the stick long enough on that one, step salute. 9.900

So apparently Cal went 49.700 on floor. Event fixed? That put Cal ahead of LSU after 3, but LSU is finishing on floor.

Davis – VT – OU – small hop forward on Y1.5, some leg break on her block. 9.850

McCusker – UB – Florida – small arch first hs – maloney to pak is lovely – good hs on low – van leeuwen, clean – stalder, elbows to double tuck, holds stick with a lean. Better cast hs than last week. First time we’ve seen consistency from week to week for her on bars. 9.850 and better than her 9.950 from last week is fun.

After 1:
Oklahoma 49.600
Florida 49.525

Only 49.6 and 49.525 and only one 10.000 in the first rotation. Is this a try??? But actually, a high quality rotation from both that I thought was scored in the vicinity of fairly, at least given college gymnastics expectations.

WELL WE HAVE ANIMATION OF KJ DRIVING A COVERED WAGON.

Meanwhile solid Omel from Smith for Utah, hop forward. Alysen Fears for Arizona finally got the 9.925 she has been deserving all season.

Rotation 2

Richards – VT – Florida – definitely her best ever, sticks her Y1.5, some knees and stagger on landing. 9.900

Sievers – UB – OU – good first hs – maloney to pak, nice – 1/2 turn on low, keeps herself close enough to vertical – FTDT, stuck landing. Big start. 9.925

Rucker anchors vault for Utah with a lunge forward today.

Wong – VT – Florida – ro 1/2 on pike 1/2, one of her best landing controls, just small slide back. 9.950 a little much for me.

Fletcher – UB – OU – gets to hs on first – piked jaeger, solid – toe on to pak, legs together well – 1/2 turn on low is nice – shorter final cast hs – FTDT, slung out some but hit it, small slide back. 9.825

Blakely – VT – Florida – large bound forward on landing her y1.5. 9.850

Utah 49.425 on vault today.

Trautman – UB – OU – good first hs – maloney to pak, legs together – cast 1/2 on low, hit – not quite as crisp in some of these verticals – DLO, good landing. 9.900

DiCello – VT – Florida – pretty good control on y1.5, small hop forward, some knee bend, legs apart at the end. 9.950, OK now we’re going crazy. You were doing OK in the first rotation, but that’s not consistent with the OU vaults with hops.

Smith – UB – OU – good first hs – ray is solid – nice hs after – toe on to pak, cleanly done – 1/2 turn on low just a tad late – nice hs on high – DLO, some piking, hop back. 9.800

Thomas – VT – Florida – y1.5, lunge forward today, great distance and position of course. 9.875

Bowers – UB – OU – good first hs – blind to jaeger, clean – good hs on high – pak, good form – 1/2 turn on low is hit, Kathy says it was meh – FTDT, holds stick with a lean

Nguyen – VT – Florida – she’s in the lineup – and it’s TERRIFYING – missed her hands on her block, looked like she vaulted with her head, and then crunched her head on landing. She’s up and walking.

Davis – UB – OU – higgins to great piked jaeger – pak, lovely – 1/2 turn on low bar is solid – good hs on high – higgins to front giant to double front 1/2 out, holds the stick with a stagger. 9.950

So anyway, Florida goes 49.525 on vault and Oklahoma goes 49.525 on bars. So everyone still on 198 pace thus far.

They have a prerecorded segment with Dave next, but when they said “Dave Tilley joins us” I was kind of like…to talk about the correct procedure when someone vaults onto their head?

Still waiting on the final results from LSU, but rough math would have Cal on top.

After 2:
Oklahoma 99.125
Florida 99.050

So Florida still with a solid vault score there. Several had their best vaults of the season. Also, if DiCello with a little hop is scoring .075 better than Thomas with a slightly bigger hop, we have an issue. Oklahoma a good vault rotation but didn’t get the score from Smith they would have wanted, though 9.800 seems reasonable to me, to get to the expected 49.6s.

Rotation 3

Dunn – BB – OU – bhs bhs loso is right on – split jump to straddle 1/2, secure – stuck gainer full. Solid one. You can always take for amplitude, but no checks. 9.900

Clapper – FX – Florida – well that’s a surprise – lots of absences in the floor lineup today – rudi to loso, right into the corner but in, some leg position and definitely amplitude to deduct – switch side to popa, overturns the switch side – back 1.5 to front lay, low, hits with step forward – switch side 1/2. 9.750

Using the Oklahoma meet as a floor resting meet is a bold move from Florida.

Trautman – BB – OU – full turn, nice – bhs loso, good back leg position, secure landing – cat leap to switch side, wobble – kickover piked, excellent- 1.5, little hop. 9.825

Suddenly it turns out that LSU has 197.700 to Cal’s 197.675. We’ll have to dive into the scores to see how that happened.

Brubach – FX – Florida – front lay to rudi with a slide back – split leap full to popa – double tuck, chest up, little rebound. 9.850 bodes…high.

Bowers – BB – OU – full turn, hit – bhs loso, excellent position and amplitude – split leap to switch 1/2, controls it with some arm movement, no check – 2/1 dismount, holds stick with a little lean forward. 9.950

Baumann – FX – Florida – wolf double is solid – back 1.5 to front full, under control well – switch side to popa, great positions – double pike, huge bounce back and goes OOB. 9.725

Davis – BB – OU – bhs loso with a check – aerial is nice – beat to split ring jump, secure – 2/1 is great and stuck. 9.875

Richards – FX – Florida – DLO, rebound back, keeps it in bounds – switch side to popa, overturns switch side a little bit – back 1.5 to front full, under control, some soft legs – 9.900 – imagine if they were going for a full strength lineup, it would have gotten all 10s.

Torrez – BB – OU – wolf jump, great – side aerial to loso and falls – resumes with a good switch and switch 1/2 – double tuck, step back. 9.350

Wong – FX – Florida – double arabian to stag is under control this week – switch 1/2 to popa to popa is well done – back 1/2 to front full, good control, a little soft. Nice one. 9.950

Smith – BB – OU – bhs loso, small check – aerial, another check – straddle 1/2 to korbut is excellent as usual – bhs gainer full, holds the landings. 9.925 with two wobbles sets the stage for the final rotation.

Hurd – FX – Florida – front lay to front full, hit – switch ring to switch 1/2, good positions – split ring jump full, around – double pike, landed under control but her feet were OOB. She said, I’m going to mount with a front full and you’re doing to love it. 9.700

KJ is like, “Vault was great. There were no other rotations.” Beam goes 49.475, under 49.500 like an embarrassment.

Florida goes 49.175 on floor with the B lineup to fall back of the pace.

After 3:
Oklahoma 148.600
Florida 148.225

We just had a 10.000 for Isa on beam. O’Keefe has a wobble today on her loso out of the side aerial.

Rotation 4

Blakely – BB – Florida – aerial to bhs, securely done – switch to switch 1/2 to beat jump, solid, just some foot position on switch 1/2 – “you can visibly see her breath during this routine”? Is it…cold? – gainer full, holds onto landing with a little lean. Starts with 9.950.

Johnson – FX – OU – front lay to rudi, under control – switch 1/2 to wolf full, back leg looked under on switch 1/2 – double tuck, chest down, step forward. 9.725

Lazzari – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso, secure, chest a bit low, small lean choreographing out of it – switch to split jump – aerial, nice – full turn, hit – gainer full, holds the landing but pretty large lean forward. 9.925

Davis – FX – OU – front 2/1, small slide forward – switch 1/2 to wolf full, good – back 1.5 to front full, under control, not a lot of rise –  9.900

DiCello – BB – Florida – candle mount, solid – wolf double with a wobble – switch to split is nice – bhs loso with an arm wave wobble – aerial is good – bhs gainer full, little rebound. 9.850

Fletcher – FX – OU – whip to double tuck, good control – front lay to front full, lands a bit short with a stumble – switch 1/2 to popa is around, some back leg on switch 1/2 – 2.5, good control on step. 9.850

Thomas – BB – Florida – switch mount, little arm wave – switch to split leap, lovely – full turn, hit – one-arm bhs to loso with a leg-up check – aerial to 2 feet, another leg up wobble – good korbut – side aerial to 1.5, quick step salute out of it. 9.875

Sievers – FX – OU – FTDT, chest up, good control on step – front tuck through to double tuck, good feet, also under control – switch side to popa, a little crooked on switch side –

Wong – BB – Florida – switch to split leap, lovely – bhs loso, nice extension – full turn, smooth – aerial to beat, under control – 2/1, chest down, hop to the side. 9.875

Long delay as we wait for the Sievers score. Shouldn’t be a SV issue. And there wasn’t 9.925.

OU not using Smith on floor.

Torrez – FX – OU – DLO, nice chest up position – split leap full to wolf full, some leg position on split full, good wolf – leg up hop full, nice elevation of leg, almost Nola Matthews level – front tuck through to double tuck. Good. 9.950

McCusker – BB – Florida – A Riley beam day??? – wolf double, great foot position – beat to aerial, way short and off line and falls – bhs loso series is hit – switch to split leap, nice positions – gainer full, stuck.

Bowers – FX – OU – double pike is excellent – switch, good – front 2/1 to front tuck, got nothing into front tuck, landed but pretty deep.

So it’s a win for Oklahoma, but after that excellent first rotation, neither team was all the way on. It started to look as tired as everyone and the live scores feel at this point in the year.

FINAL:
Oklahoma 197.950
Florida 197.700

I mean you didn’t even gets 198s??????
