Alright, let’s get down to business and finish deciding which 8 teams are advancing to nationals. We start in Alabama, where Florida semifinaled a 198.225, to Cal’s 197.550, Alabama’s 197.275, and Oregon State’s 197.050.

Individually, Jade Carey won the all-around, so she’ll go to nationals for that unless Oregon State makes it as a team (after her the list is Wong, Harris-Miranda, and Williams). Vault is a little messy as Carey and Florida dominate those standings, but after that we’re looking at Bunagan, and then a tie between Kaya Forbes and Maddie Williams that Forbes takes on the tiebreak. On bars, it’s Carey, Wong, and Williams tied for first, and then if they’re all already qualified, we have Fuller and Lacoursiere tied, and Fuller takes the tiebreak.

On beam, it’s Carey, Wong, Harris-Miranda, and Lauzon all tied for first, followed by Nguyen. If they’re all already in, we have an 8-way tie for the next spot. That tiebreak would go to Chloe Negrete, but as she got injured in the semifinal, a withdrawal from Negrete would then see the spot go to Jojo Valahovic. On floor, it’s Carey, then Clark, Frazier, Lauzon, Hudson, and Gladieux. Gladieux and Lauzon win their intra-team tiebreaks, so it would be either them or Clark for the floor spot.

Rotation 1

Paradise – VT – Alabama – y1.5, solid, small hop forward, some knees, better control than day 1. 9.850

Pilgrim – UB – Florida – hop back on FTDT dmt. 9.850

Esposito – BB – Oregon State – switch and switch split jump are well done – bhs loso, smooth – nice 2/1 stick. 9.850

Mayhew FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front pike is solid, fixed the landing from day 1 – switch ring to switch 1/2 hit – back 1.5 to 1/2 to double stag, a little travel back. 9.850

German – VT – Alabama – y1.5, lands a bit shorter with a hop back. 9800

Blakely – UB – Florida – stalder tkatchev to pak, good – hits 1/2 turn on low – solid hs on high – double front 1/2 out, good stick. 9.925

Was Trinity about to say oh shit and then stopped herself?

Heather – BB – Oregon St – kickover, little waver pause before Korbut – switch, little lean into split jump – gainer pike, step back. 9.700. One judge had 9.6 start and the others had 10. she definitely opened the door to denying combos

Kueneke – FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front tuck is a big struggle, very short, bound to the side – switch 1/2 to wolf full is solid – 1.5 to 1/2 to straddle jump. 9.650

Sears – VT – Alabama – good distance on her yfull but a larger bounce back and then a subsequent lean forward and step forward to try to control. 9.750

Wong – UB – Florida – joined in progress – good pak and van leeuwen – DLO, legs apart and hop back today. 9.875

Letzch – BB – Oregon St – aerial with a check, has to redo the series into back tuck with a wobble – good ring position, another check. 9.700

Pretty rudi from Williams on floor. She just did a wolf 2.75 and I think meant to do a double. Switch 1/2 to split is good – 1.5 to layout. 9.875

Bunagan – VT – Alabama – stuck her y1.5 again, some knee position throughout. 9.900

Harris – UB – Florida – Ray, hit – solid hs on high bail, legs together – hits hs on high – toe on – DLO with piking, finds the stick. 9.900

McMillan – BB – Oregon St – kickover to korbut is solid- good switch – split to stag ring, not a ton of ring closure – gainer full, hop back. 9.800

Cesario – FX – Cal – ftdt, little bounce back – switch to ring 1/2 – back 1.5 to layout is smooth. 9.850

Gladieux – VT – Alabama – y1.5, pretty large lunge forward and extra back leg slide. 9.775

Arana – UB – Florida – maloney to pak, small leg break – 1/2 turn on low, good finish position – hits hs on high – dlo, holds stick. 9.925

Gonzales – BB – Oregon St – aerial to back tuck, secure, chest down on back tuck – wobble on side aerial – front gainer full, hop forward. 9.650

Frazier – FX – Cal – DLO, looks like she just keeps that front foot down – switch ring and switch 1/2 split positions are quite nice – front tuck through to double tuck, chest down, tries to sell it but definitely chest forward. 9.850

Hudson – VT – Alabama – hits y1.5, medium hop forward. 9.850

McCusker – Ub – Florida – good slight on maloney to pak, legs together – hits van leeuwen – solid hs on high – stalder to double tuck, bounce back

Carey – BB – Oregon St – aerial, keeps moving to bhs loso – switch to split is hit – gainer full, little lean, one judge still goes 10. 9.950

Lauzon – FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front tuck, great – switch and switch 1/2, good – back 1/5 to front full, better finish on that pass than day 1. 9.950

After 1: Florida 49.550, Cal 49.375, Alabama 49.175, Oregon State 49.000

Bart said Bunagan’s vault went up to 9.950 (as if by magic!) but it’s still at 9.900 on virtius. Cal needed more on floor there. If we’re anticipating an Alabama home floor 49.6 again to end, they’ve given themselves work to do.

Rotation 2

Gladieux – UB – Alabama – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good amplitude – tight hs on high – giant full, past, into double tuck, little rebound. 9.850

Wiley – VT – Cal – y1.5, good control, little step to the side, leg sep on block and some knee form. 9.850

Miller – FX – Oregon St – double pike, secure landing chest down – switch 1/2 to popa is good – 1.5 to layout, a bit low hit – double tuck. 9.825

Draser – BB – Florida – bhs loso, hit, foot flexing – switch to switch 1/2, pretty well under split – 1.5 dismount, knees, lean forward to hold. 9.800

Mayhew – VT – Cal – y1.5, hits but shorter with direction, step back and to the side. 9.800 high there for a short landing and direction

Hudson – UB – Alabama – toe on to maloney to bail, leg separation in maloney, hip angle in the air on bail – FTDT, legs apart in the air, very minor movement. 9.850

Buckner hits rudi on floor –

Brown – VT – Cal – y1.5, does well to hold onto the stick – knees and direction. 9.875

Walker – UB = Albama – good high pak – maloey to gienger hit – FTDT, good stick. 9.900

Nguyen – BB – Florida – onodi to bhs is smooth – switch very slight shoulder adjustment to split – bhs to 1.5, looks like a little slide back and some leg separation. 9.875

Esposito finishes up floor for Oregon St with front lay to rudi, good twisting form

Lauzon – VT – Cal – y1.5, way off direction gets it with a small hop forward but definite direction to take. 9.800

Lacoursiere – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, legs together – short hs on low bar – van leeuwen,, legs together – FTDT, solid, got tight on some cast handstands but otherwise clean. They were fine with them for 9.950

Garcia – FX – Oregon St – 1.5 to front full – clear finish positions on leaps – struggles to control double tuck landing with a couple small steps to the side

Frazier – VT – Cal – DTY, better control than the first day, bounce back and some leg crossing. 9.875

Adams – UB – Alabama – toe on to maloney to bail, clean, legs together – good hs on high – giant full, good finish into double tuck, stuck. Lovely. 9.925

Arana – BB – Florida – bhs loso, hit, lean to the side on landing – aerial, hit – gets switch 1/2 – gainer full, holds stick. 9.875

Carey – FX – Oregon St – double double is secure – front lay to front full ti split – switch 1/2 to popa is around – double tuck, slide back. 9.950, again one judge says don’t care for a 10.

After 2: Florida 98.850, Cal 98.675, Alabama 98.650, Oregon State 98.475

Alabama sticks a bunch on bars to keep themselves where they want to be given the events they’ve done and still have. Florida not establishing the separation they would want so far, so they’ll need floor to come through.

Rotation 3

Briones – VT – Oregon St – yfull comes up somewhat short, hop forward. 9.775

Lauzon – UB – Cal – pak, good legs together – van leeuwen, smashes her feet on the bar in the air – still sticks dismount. 9.650

Rybicki – BB – Alabama – bhs loso, secure, flexed feet – switch 1/2, under split, little foot adjustment – full turn, covers arm correction – split to straddle 3/4 – front full dismount, also low amplitude, also stuck. 9.800

Disidore – FX – Florida – rudi to double stag, out of control travel back – switch side 1/2 to popa – back 1.5 to lay slide dance out, legs apart in 1.5. 9.850

McMillan – VT – Oregon St – yfull, pretty large bounce back

Cesario – UB – Cal – rishes first hs – blind to jaeger, catches a little close with elbows, solid overshoot – short hs – DLO, leg sep, good stick. A more tentative one for her but a hit. 9.850

Carey step forward on y1.5

Brown – UB – Cal – good pak – van leeuwen, hti – tight hs on high – toe pike 1/2 dismount, good stick. 9.50

Williams – BB – Cal – wolf turn – aerial to split jump, nicely done – bhs loso, lovely – switch to split – gainer full, stuck, excellent. 9.875 is tight for that. I had 9.950

Adams – FX – Alabama – wolf triple – double pike, chest forward with a step – 1.5 to layout. 9.850

Nguyen – VT – Florida – y1.5, shorter landing with step back and more tucking than her usual. 9.850

Weaver – UB – Oregon St – giant full to gienger – arches cast on high bar but pulls it back – pretty short hs on high – giant full to double tuck, holds stick

FINAL: Florida 197.700, Alabama 197.675, Cal 197.575, Oregom State 196.875

Oooooh boy. You always felt like Cal was going to need to have an ideal meet to get through in this context, and they just nickle and dimed themselves throughout and did not have their perfect competition. Starting with a mistake on bars and beam hurt, and on bars in particular I thought the couple routines after the error were noticeably tighter than their usual. They were able to drop most of the problems though, and the hot take is that Florida should have been third here. I’m not sure if I’m there yet, but if you want to have a hot take, those overscored short vaults in the last rotation are a place to start.

Individually, it will be Carey AA, Forbes VT, Williams UB, Lauzon BB FX.

On to the last! Can you live up to the last one? I’m deeply concerned you aren’t going to be close or controversial, and we really can’t abide that.

Oklahoma qualified with 198.025, then Missouri on 197.650, Auburn on 196.950, and Arizona on 196.250.

Individuals! In the all-around, we have Faith Torrez and Amari Celestine leading their teams, and then if they go through, we have Mary McDonough making it through in the AA for Washington. Vault is led by Celestine, and then if she’s already through it’s Ady Wahl. Bars has a 6-way tie for the lead, the tiebreak going to Bowers, then Greaves, with Emma Spence the next eligible in line if Oklahoma and Auburn are through.

The beam semifinal had 10s for Torrez and Hu, and then if those two teams are through, Gabby McLaughlin for Auburn is next in line. On floor, Holly Snyder and Lily Smith both went 9.925 for Georgia, with Smith taking the tiebreak, so she’ll go for floor as long as Oklahoma qualifies a team.

Rotation 3

After 3: Oklahoma 148.975, Missouri 148.150, Auburn 147.950, Arizona 147.050

FINAL: Oklahoma 198.450, Missouri 197.425, Auurn 197.325, Arizona 196.250

Ooooh, this one brought it too, good job. First impression is that the right teams are going through. Auburn got looser scoring on floor in that rotation than Missouri on beam, and the separation probably should have been a bit bigger. Auburn goes in the same category as the Penn State regional final of teams that really brought it and gave it all they could but came up short to stronger teams on the day.

Individuals are Mcdonough for the all-around, Wahl for vault, Greaves for bars, McLaughlin for beam, and Smith for floor.
