The triple full is the favorite E skill for those gymnasts who would rather never have to pull around another wretchedly cowboyed double salto again in their entire lives.

And by that, I mean most Chinese elites. Twisting skills tend to be less valued than double-salto elements, so the triple has somewhat fallen out of favor internationally, though the Chinese have carved out a useful niche for it by connecting directly into a front tuck for a whole treasure trove of CV. They have also revealed that everyone’s totally cool with it if you do 2.64 twists and land horizontally, as long as you work directly into another tumbling element that goes sideways. Win-win.
