The back pike has never achieved the popularity of the layout stepout (largely because it is more challenging to execute out of a back handspring series), but it remains nonetheless a semi-frequently used composition choice on beam.
These days, it is primarily used as part of a mixed series in combination with some leaps to garner a tenth in series bonus, most commonly appearing after a switch split + switch split 1/2 to put a cherry on top of the trio. Some lower level elites will also use it in isolation to sneak another counting C element into the routine.
