About
Currently the most loathed skill in all of gymnastics, the wolf turn is an inelegant, fragile, wobbly garbage fire, and we all know it. At the same time, criticism of the wolf turn has reached a sort of “Nate was the real villain in The Devil Wears Prada” place, where it is over-proclaimed to the point where it has become a cliche onto itself. Actually liking wolf turns is moving into hipster-cool zone. Put on a trucker hat, grow a handlebar mustache, and do a wolf turn.
The double wolf turn on floor is an extremely popular composition choice to flop around with your mushy leg and inexact finishing position (the wolf 2.175 turn is a world favorite) since it is valued at D (0.4) just like the double L and double Y turns.
The double wolf is a preferred choice, however, because it doesn’t carry nearly the same risk of falling out of the turn, which is mitigated further by the preposterous execution determination that putting your hand down or butt-spinning out of a wolf turn isn’t deducted the same as a regular fall. BUT WHY?
In a small nod to popular sentiment, gymnasts are now limited one (1) wolf turn variation per routine. A small victory.
