Perhaps the most notorious of the code-of-points WTFs (and that’s saying something) belongs to the front 2.5, a skill that gained favor in the early 2000s among several gymnasts. It was to be named for Romania’s Sabina Cojocar after she performed it at the 2001 World Championship. At this point, the women’s technical committee looked at Cojocar and said, “Congratulations Silvia Stroescu!”

And so, the skill was named after Stroescu for no reason, even though she didn’t perform it. “All Romanians look alike” – Nellie Kim.

Most surprisingly of all, the technical committee actually recognized and rectified this mistake, appropriately naming the skill after Cojocar when issuing the 2013 code. Twelve years to fix a clerical error. That’s normal, right? There’s hope for you yet “Chellsia Memmel” and “Karly Patterson!”
