The appeal of the illusion turn comes from its D value. And little else. It’s worth a tenth more than the L or Y turns and is also realistic as part of a mixed series, though still such a risky proposition that only the most confident turners tend to attempt it. Or should.

Even in the hands of an otherwise confident, non-Dutch turner, it has a tendency to look a little “crab in a garbage disposal” as the gymnast desperately tries to flail herself back over the beam somehow.
