Round-off 1/2 on, Pike 1/2 (Podkopayeva)

Known as
Round-off 1/2 on, pike 1/2
Yurchenko 1/2 on, pike 1/2

Named after
Lilia Podkopayeva (UKR)

Thankfully, Lilia Podkopayeva gave her name to this vault, so even though Podkopayeva is five whole syllables, saying that is still more convenient than actually trying to describe this vault. A true, intentional Podkopayeva is pretty rare in elite these days, as most gymnasts will post the number for the layout to try to get credit, even if there is piked position all up in that vault.

But let’s get to the naming drama. As with the tucked version of this vault, the piked version used to be separated into two separate skills with different element numbers—one for the front pike with 1/2 turn out that Podkopayeva performed, and another for the 1/2 turn into back pike. In 2013, the two skills were conflated into the same code box.

It gets dramatic because—before the two skills were conflated—the latter version was named after Khorkina. This particular Khorkina is no longer named after her in the code of points because of the vast international conspiracy that exists and is real and is designed solely to keep her down and strip her of her rightful glory.
