About
Among the most infamous elements in gymnastics, the split ring leap full encapsulates the modern gymnastics trend toward gaining difficulty by adding twists onto things that probably should be left un-twisted. Is it a dance element, or is it just sort of throwing your limbs around willy-nilly?
When Ferrari first performed this element, it was described as a split leap with full turn to ring position. It is now described as a tour jeté to ring with 1/2 turn to differentiate it from the split ring leap with a full turn afterward.
To date, it has gone well for a grand total of zero gymnasts who have ever attempted it, and the deductions for leg position and split position, and landing control, should be a deterrent. Or something. It’s still entirely possible that this was invented by Vanessa Ferrari as a prank for the London Olympics and just got out of hand, and now it’s historical record.
