The split ring is far less common on floor than the switch ring, the reason being that it is quite a bit harder to achieve the prescribed position—while no addition value is given for it. Most gymnasts utilize the momentum-gaining ability of the change-leg technique to whip themselves into the appropriate split ring position. But on the leap version, that change-leg momentum does not exist, so you’re mostly left with some blah, two-part ring leaps that never achieve a simultaneous 180 with both legs and are at major risk of being downgraded.
