The switch side is the colloquial name for a switch leap with 1/4 turn to a straddle position. Because you end up…going to the side.
It is also colloquially known as the Johnson, though the code really has no idea what it’s all about in that regard. This element does not actually appear in the named skills section on floor, but in the element box it is noted as the Johnson. On beam, this element is also called the Johnson, which the code believes is after Kathy Johnson even though she famously performed her side leap on beam without change leg.
Meanwhile, Brandy Johnson did perform this skill on floor, but was unlikely the first to do so. Because whatever.
