Toe-on Tkatchev Layout (Nabieva)

Uneven Bars

Skill type
Same-bar release

Known as
Toe-on Tkatchev Layout

Named for
Tatiana Nabieva (RUS)

Invented by the daredevil, take-no-prisoners, trying-is-a-maybe queen of gymnastics Tatiana Nabieva, the toe-on layout Tkatchev remains the only Tkatchev entry to have a layout position entered in the code of points—the layout position being a feat previously thought either impossible or too ridiculous to attempt. Nabieva does not recognize your limits.

These days, bars skills are only as valuable as the elements they can be connected to, and controlling the element enough to be worth it and to be connected into a Pak proved to be a challenge for Nabieva, though it has not derailed the gymnasts who have followed in her footsteps, of which there are an increasing number every year.

Reflecting this sudden semi-ubiquity of the Nabieva, the WTC downgraded it by one letter in 2022, perhaps also reflecting the new presence of the 1/2-turning version, adding difficulty to a skill that was already at the totally arbitrary value cap for bars skills, a cap that has since been eliminated on beam and floor but still exists on bars.
