The wolf jump is so named because there is nothing in the history of time that has looked less like a wolf.

It has often been among the most common dance elements on beam as a way to fulfill the dance-combination requirement, though it saw its numbers dwindle in the 2017-2020 quad as it remained an A value skill when other elements were upgraded to B and B elements started to be required for connection bonus. It now no longer makes as much sense to do a wolf jump, part of the FIG’s comprehensive attack against those who identify as Animal-Element.
