Ah, the flank mount. It’s a shining comet of fake beam mounts and among those that you will see most commonly because it requires the least effort and involves basically zero risk. I’m sure someone has fallen on a flank mount at some point, but I’ve never seen it. It is the way to get on the beam doing as little as possible so you can get the real stuff started.
This portion of the beam code also includes the second mount depicted, sweeping one leg over the beam with 3/4 turn, which is slightly less common but you’ll also see it because it can be a slightly elegant-looking way of doing nothing.
