About
The Rankin—jumping to a one-arm handstand—is among the more famous mounts in gymnastics that no one ever does just because of its sheer excellence. Yes. Do that more, and all the time. No notes.

It was named after Janine Rankin at the 1987 World Championship in Rotterdam, an event at which the Canadians really went all in on one-arm business. At the same event, Larissa Lowing mounted beam with a press handstand to one arm, lowering to clear support. This one did not enter the code as its own element until the 1993 update, when both the Rankin and Lowing appeared side-by-side. In 1997, the two were merged into a single element box, with the option to perform it either way. In 2009, the Lowing name was removed, with this element just standing as the Rankin.

I’d argue that the jump directly to the one-arm handstand should be regarded as its own element, one that is valued as more difficult.
