Chalk this up under the “why would anyone ever” heading. While the straddle vault with hand repulsion on the low bar is still to be seen in the wild, the free jump without touching the low bar—while still very possible—is valued at a B, a vestige of when the bars were closer together and this was a simpler prospect than it is now. Now, it’s not worth enough to bother not touching the low bar on the way.
