Of the three E (0.5)-rated back salto mounts on beam (tuck, pike, layout stepout), the back pike is by far the rarest. While the layout stepout offers the relative safety of going one leg at a time, and the tuck offers the efficiency of the tucked position, the pike offers…just being harder for no reward at all?
In most circumstances when we see what appears to be a back pike beam mount, it is actually an attempt at the two-footed layout but the gymnast has piked it enough so as to be not recognizable as a layout.
