About
The front tuck beam mount is valued at D (0.4), probably the basement rating at which gymnasts are willing to take real risk in their mounts. Lower than D, it’s not worth it. But a D…then we’ll talk. If I’m going to take a chance at falling on my mount, it better mean I don’t have to do a stupid switch 1/2 later on.

This mount has certainly enjoyed its moments of popularity. If you didn’t bring an entire beam rotation of front tuck mounts to 1999 worlds, then you might as well just get on the plane home. At present, the trend in acrobatic mounts has been more toward those that begin with round-offs like the back handspring and layout stepout, skills that got a boost from the 2017 mount upgrade, but we’ll always see a handful of front tuck mounts make their way to major competitions.
