About
The back handspring mount developed into an exceptionally popular way to open a beam routine following its upgrade from a C (0.3) to a D (0.4) in the 2017 code of points revision.
It’s a controversial difficulty rating because the hand-support aspect makes this mount relatively safe compared to other mounts of an equivalent value, like the front tuck. It’s not safe like some A, but the risk is mitigated. Others argue that it is essential to value acrobatic mounts highly in order to convince gymnasts to do them and avoid the prior epidemic of everyone just mounting in the most boring way possible.
Gymnasts are also free to get their Lavinia Agache on and do this mount with one arm, but for the same value…why would you?
