Ah yes, the Kim. The double tuck is perhaps the very best of the unnamed elements that Nellie Kim went back and retroactively named after herself once she became the head of the women’s technical committee.

What makes this move particularly brazen is that, when Nellie Kim competed the double tuck at the 1976 Olympics, she did so within a whole lineup of other Soviet gymnasts like Maria Filatova and Olga Korbut who were also doing double tucks right next to her. But she’s just like,

Going back 30 years later to name a ubiquitous skill after only yourself even though others performed it both simultaneously and before (Nadia Comaneci famously competed a double tuck at the 1976 American Cup earlier that year, but it was not a naming-eligible competition) is truly the stuff of legend.
