Sissone
Pronunciation note: The i is pronounced with a long e sound. The o is a short o sound. The e is silent. SEE-SOHN. The level of pretentious French accent used to pronounce the n is entirely up to you, but I’d recommend going whole hog.
About
The primary difference between a sissone and a split jump is the angle at which the split is achieved. In a sissone, the split needs to be achieved at a diagonal, while in a split jump it needs to be achieved parallel to the floor.
In practice, when most gymnasts attempt a sissone, it basically just looks like a split jump with a dumpy front leg. That’s why they’re both the same skill number and value. You don’t have to try to tell them apart.
