About
While it reigns as the most common dance element on beam, the switch split is a little too simple for score-counting purposes on floor at B (0.2) value, at least for the top athletes.
It nonetheless remains somewhat popular among gymnasts—even at the highest level—because it can be used as the first skill in completing the “passage of dance elements” composition requirement before moving on to a more complex leap of higher value a few strides later. At least if you don’t mind throwing in a 9th skill you don’t intend to count.
It’s the easy one to chassé out of, that’s what the switch split has going for it on floor.
