The Nastia

It’s not technically the simplest dismount in the code of points because there are a couple that contain no salto at all that you could consider simpler, but for most purposes, the flyaway is your most basic possible dismount.

The only context in which we see a flyaway in elite gymnastics (aside from the very, very simplest routines) is when a gymnast hasn’t added her full difficulty back yet when returning from injury and is performing a progress-point routine “without” a dismount. It is a dismount, just a fake one. You’ll also see this called “The Nastia” by snide idiots like me, a reference to when Nastia showed up to nationals in 2012 dismounting bars with a flyaway.
