Valued at 3.80, the Yurchenko layout with a 1/2 twist is worth only two tenths more than the straight layout version and is therefore not really worth trying in elite because it means most Yurchenko 1/2s are going to score worse than the same gymnast’s Yurchenko layout. The large majority progress directly from the Yurchenko layout to the Yurchenko full.

The 1/2 did have a one-year heyday in NCAA gymnastics when a really fun and not-at-all embarrassing oversight during the vault-value change (we’re running a bang-up operation over there) left the Arabian technique of this vault—so, a 1/2 turn followed by a front layout, rather than a back layout with 1/2 turn—valued at a 10.0 start even though the Yurchenko with full twist had been devalued to a 9.95 start.
