THE 2019 STORY
Gotta be good and gotta be lucky. Obviously, the 2019 season was basically the best thing that has ever happened to Oregon State, resulting the program’s best finish since 1996 and a trip to nationals that literally no one saw coming.

Oregon State got to host regionals, Florida fell apart on beam, and the Beavs were right there to say, “Thank you very much” and even snatch a 6th-place national finish…and come really, really close to making the final…after spending the meat of the regular season in the 14-15 ranking zone.

THE 2019 STORY
Nebraska wasn’t quite able to keep up its run of oh damn, Nebraska’s good perennial postseason semi-surprises in 2019, instead throwing in one of its occasional 14th-place finishes. Issues with depth and consistency kept Nebraska ranked in the deeper part of the teens for most of the season, but the team couldn’t really have expected too much better at the end, advancing to the regional final and putting up a solid 196.6 there in falling to UCLA, Michigan, and Alabama.

It was actually the kind of typically Nebraska regionals performance that could have snatched a position at nationals under the old format, but no longer.

THE 2019 STORY
Arkansas finished 2019 with one of its weaker rankings historically at just 18th place, but after a season spent at #20, Arkansas will feel that the way things ended—a respectable 5th-place result at SECs and then coming just .125 from making the regional final—was a high note. At times during the year, it looked like things would go worse than that.

Auburn spent the entirely of its 2019 season in the 11-13 ranking zone and will therefore feel that a final placement of 16th—largely informed by an unforeseen bars disaster in the regional final—understates the team’s quality. Which is probably true. It’s Auburn’s weakest finish of the last five years but not its weakest team.
