The regional finals are finally upon us, with four of the eight spots at nationals about to be decided.

LSU and Arizona State Regional Rotation Orders
VAULT – LSU, Florida

BEAM – Clemson, Cal

The only diversion from typical Olympic order is both #3-seed Michigans electing to start on floor and end on beam rather than start on beam and end on bars.

Individually, these are the people who could potentially still take those spots, listed in order of who has priority should they need the spot.

Clark – FX – Clemson – DLO, controls front foot – front lay to front full to front tuck, shows split – tour jete 1/2 to popa, good completion, a little travel. 9.950

After 2
LSU 98.750
Clemson 98.600
Michigan 98.475
Stanford 98.350

Clemson’s strategy of just getting 9.8s while everyone else loses their minds is working so far. Michigan very lungey on vault and Stanford sub 49 on beam. LSU has to deal with McClain’s injury now, so aren’t really distancing.

LSU will sub Ulrich in for McClain on beam.

Rotation 3 – LSU Final

Minner – VT – Clemson – Y1.5 tucked, step forward. 9.850

“You can’t make up scores in gymnastics.” Judges like, “watch me.”

Zeiss – BB – LSU – side aerial, holds it despite a little forward – aerial, knee, moves through into bhs, slow but gets it – wolf double is solid – gainer tuck full, stuck

Clapper hits piked jaeger and overshoot on bars – solid hs on high – DLO, high, step back. 9.775

Anastasi – VT – Clemson – larger bound back on yfull

Roberts – FX – Stanford – front tuck through to double tuck, slide back – switch 1/2 to popa, great – front lay to rudi, nice twist position. 9.900

Chio – BB – LSU – bhs mount, good – bhs loso, hit – full turn – aerial to split, secure – switch to split, good – 1.5, stuck. 9.975

Parenti – UB – Michigan – hesitant first hs – toe on Ray, pretttty close catch, loses form on catch – pak – loses some body position in 1/2 turn on low – DLO, holds onto landing, little waver. 9.800

Clemson 147.900
Stanford 147.900
Michigan 147.575

Well, we asked whether Stanford can actually vault at a championship level. This will be the test. Michigan falling farther back but can get a big beam score on their day.

Rotation 4 – LSU Final

Jung-Ruivivar – VT – Stanford – yfull, tries to hold the stick, ends with a pretty big lean forward arm circle. 9.800

Lippeatt – UB – Clemson – tkatchev to pak, elbows on tkatchev – hits hs on high – giant full a little past, good stick on double tuck. 9.875

Parenti – BB – Michigan – full turn – bhs loso, secure landing – switch to split, nice leg positions – aerial, little waver into split jump – sticks 1.5 dmt. 9.850

Innes gets out of control on her dance combo, and off balance on stag jump rebound as well. 9.850 because leaps aren’t real.

Barbosu – VT – Stanford – tsuk 1/1, chest down a little bit hit, hop back, little shake after hop to hold. 9.875

H Clark – UB – Clemson – piked jaeger to overshoot it hit, leg separation in the air – DLO, chest down, hop forward. 9.800

Walters – BB – Michigan – straddle jump, nice – kickover front to bhs is smooth – split leap to switch 1/2 to beat, connected solidly, a little under on switch position – front full, stuck. 9.875

Ballou – FX – LSU – DLO, slide back – front lay to rudi, good control

Gronski – VT – Stanford – yfull, clean in the air but a bounce back. 9.850

Drayton – FX – LSU – DLO, a little down to control but does – switch ring to switch 1/2, great – front through to double tuck, under control

Roberts – VT – Stanford – y1.5, nearly had the landing today, a little under with a step back. 9.850.

Cesario – UB – Clemson – blind to jaeger to overshoot, prettttyy close on catch with some elbow bending – hits hs on high – DLO, solid stick. And it’s 9.900.

Nguyen – VT – Stanford – Y1.5, finds the stick, very strong. They needed that. 9.950

Now Kuhl needds 9.875 to tie, 9.900 to win.

Chio hitting etc.

Kuhl – UB – Clemson – good firs ths – Ray to overshoot is hit – borderline hs on high – DLO, can’t stick it – lands chest forward with a hop, which shouldn’t be enough. Probably would have had it with a stick. 9.750

LSU and Stanford will advance after all. The most drama-Stanford result possible.

Lincoln to finish off the meet on floor – DLO, chest up, controls the step back – switch to gogean – front lay to front full – judges like WE DONE 10!

FINAL
LSU 197.825
Stanford 197.225
Clemson 197.150
Michigan 196.750

Clemson will be stinging for a while because it was so close, and we will be stinging for a while because we almost had UNDERDOGGGG, but a huge result for them this season. Ultimately, amid everyone getting a million scoring gifts and late-rotation zoomies, Stanford was able to make up for having more errors than Clemson by having fewer built-in faults.
