It’s the final day of finals. Then things are final. Once again, it will be men’s vault and then beam, then a break for ceremonies, then the final three finals.
On MAG vault, Jake Jarman and Artur Davtyan come in with the top qualifying score of 14.633, just ahead of Nazar Chepurnyi. On beam, Zhang Qingying and Qiu Qiyuan qualified 1-2, followed by Saraiva.
Tim is looking forward to vault and high bar. And none for parallel bars, bye.
MAG Vault
Sponevik – Norway – VT 1 – Opens with a Dragulescu, hop back and then a small extra step – some knee separation, some feet and direction, hit. 14.333
Sponevik – Norway – VT 2 – handspring randi, very strong in the air, good twisting shape and direction, medium bounce back. 14.400
14.366 average.
Dukhno – VT 1 – Kas 2/1 is hit, good height, lunge back, slight knee position softness. 14.400
Dukhno – VT 2 – TTY is hit, a little less control than the Kas, larger lunge back, clean position in the air, very small shin separation, slight under rotated on landing. 14.300
14.350 average is just behind Sponevik.
Hepworth – GB – VT 1 – hits the piked Dragulescu (RSG2), great amplitude, tucks around the 1/2 twist, large lunge back and slide. They do not give the piked shape and go only 5.2 D for a 14.200
Tim and John are outraged, outraged I tell you, about the downgrade. Nobody tell them about what’s been happening on beam.
Hepworth – GB – VT 2 – really struggles with his handspring front triple, gets it around to his feet, but a deep knee landing and a large lunge forward and then another stumble step. 13.933
Average 14.066 and into third.
Jarman – GB – VT 1 – Kas 2.5 is hit well, comfortably completed, bounce out with a lunge. Big 14.900
Jarman – GB – VT 2 – does a strong Dragulescu as well, around clearly, hop to the side. 14.400
14.650 average is into first.
Davtyan – Armenia – VT 1 – Sticks his Dragulescu, everybody else get out, great landing – little bit of cowboy to take, little bit of chest position, very little else. 14.900
Davtyan – Armenia – VT 2 – handspring randi, magical. Stuck, chest up, better E than the stuck Dragulescu. 14.900
14.850 is now in first place.
Yulo – Philippines – VT 1 – piked Dragulescu lands super super short, lunge forward, hand down, out of the area – felt like he went so hard to maintain the actual pike position that he couldn’t do the vault. 13.333
Yulo – Philippines – VT 2 – lovely handspring randi, great twisting form, medium bounce back. 14.433
13.883 average.
Chepurnyi – Ukraine – VT 1 – Dragulescu, medium step back, good high completion, some knees and direction. 14.300
Chepurnyi – Ukraine – VT 2 – Kas 2/1, similarly well completed in the air but a lunge to the side and an arm wave, but great twisting position in the air. 14.400
14.350 average ties Dukhno in 4th place, everything is the same.
Kawakami – Japan – VT 1 – Yurchenko double pike is a problem, bounces back and can’t keep the bounce to his feet, sits it down. 13.200
Kawakami – Japan – VT 2 – tries the TTY, not quite around with a deeper landing and lunge to the side – 13.466
13.333 average.
FINAL
1) Davtyan – 14.850
2) Jarman – 14.650
3. Sponevik (!) – 14.366

Okamura – Japan – wobble on loso mount, large lean – tour jete 1/2 attempt is landed under rotated with a lean wobble – gets it back on track with wolf turn – never mind, side aerial to loso is off line to start and falls – aerial to split to straddle is good – switch ring is nice – split ring jump, under with step back – 2.5 dmt, little hop forward. 12.666
Colas – France – switch mount connected to switch and straddle – side aerial to loso is secure – lean forward pretty far finishing wolf double – tentative switch 1/2 in the air but secure – aerial to split to bhs, good combo – double pike, just a little deep, hop back. 14.100 goes ahead of Esposito and into 2nd.

Zhang – China – switch mount to switch 1/2 to korbut, hit – layout 2 feet, good – switch to bhs, tentative, steps back, doesn’t connect out – switch side, bigger pause before straddle and back dive from side – switch to split jump 1/2 to straddle 3/4, nicely done – double pike dismount, lunge back. She broke some connections in there (real broken connections, not 2026 broken connections), enough to make it close.
14.566 is tied with Nemour, but Zhang goes into 2nd because of the E score tiebreak.

Martin – GB – DLO 1/1, hit, some pike and knees, only a small bounce, keeps it in – goes for straddle 1.5, looked a little under – DLO, somewhat short, hop forward – tour jete 1/2 and switch 1/2 – wolf double – front full, didn’t quite get her timing in combo but gets the double tuck, deep but landed.

FINAL
1) Pease – 13.866
2) Esponda – 13.566
3) Prat – 13.466
Martin out of the medals on the tiebreak. Prat did have the actual best execution of this final, if she hadn’t landed her mount all weird. Perhaps the most important result for the US women at this worlds was to reaffirm that can still use higher D to win on floor after not placing well last year. Pease’s E score was on par with the other hits here, and while Esponda’s was way down at 7.566, she had the D and could use it to medal.
High Bar
